Abilities & Weapons

Aashni has what is sometimes referred to as Electrokinesis. With this ability, Aashni can create and manipulate electricity. Certain strengths of this ability are:

remaining unharmed around places with high voltage electricity. it is similar to the way in which someone who can wield fire would never sustain any burns.
aashni can often generate electricity to charge something or power something up. similarly, her body tends to send off sparks as a kind of defense mechanism when she's caught off guard.
aashni can, to an extent, also call on lightning from the sky, however, this is a much harder feat to do.
aashni can usually sense if there is an electrical source nearby, or an electromagnetic field.
aashni cannot control technology completely, but she can cause electrical appliances to go haywire by stepping into a room. with some luck, she could maybe unlock a room or something that has a finger print scanner or an electrical keypad by just frying the thing and messing with the system, but it doesn't always work.
using up electricity from a source and deflecting it onto someone/something else, as a kind of offensive power.

limitations of this ability are:

the fact that even though she can call on lightning, she is better off generating it herself or using existing sources of electricity. it takes less of her energy, even if calling on lightning does more damage.
aashni's powers are more or less under control, but she can still be a little volatile. her behaviour often influences the way her ability reacts. being upset or angry can cause nearby appliances to fuse or act funny momentarily. she can also send off random sparks from her body when she's angry.
when generating her own electric energy, the range is not as far as it is when she's calling on actual lightning. if her target is too far, there are high chances of any offensive tactics not even reaching them unless there is an electrical source near them.
generating her own electricity also has a limit because she can't just keep on doing it for as long as she wants. usually, if she has an electrical source nearby, she can just draw on that energy to keep going, but continuous use can also give her bad headaches and, in severe cases, lead to blackouts that could last a while.
certain barriers block her ability to sense nearby technology/electrical sources or affect nearby technology/electrical sources.

Summary

Aashni was born to a small family in Eurasia, and her whole life, war was pretty much all she knew. Her father was a soldier, and so was her older brother. There was rarely peace and there was hardly a time where Aashni and her mother didn't worry about seeing the two men of the family come back home in one piece. By the time advances came about in Eurasia, Aashni had become a teenager, and, having witnessed the fight between two nations for so long, she had wanted to join the battle, especially when it seemed like now they had more of a chance with the discovery of dark matter.

By this time, Aashni had also lost her brother to the war, so she was more determined to try and walk in his footsteps and let his sacrifice not be in vain. She went through the change, and came out new. Well, she was the same person, but she was... enhanced. She was stronger, in terms of her abilities. And it was just in time for the final war between Oceania and Eurasia -- the one in which they were defeated. Aashni, among all other Eurasia soldiers, was taken away from her home and forced to turn on her homeland, brainwashed and tortured into believing the views of Oceania. Aashni soon learned not to fight back, and keeps herself tight lipped out of fear that saying the wrong thing would result in enduring more physical and mental pain. She is constantly at a war with her own mind, but on the outside, Aashni just looks like someone with a very good poker face.

Personality

For the most part, Aashni is a rather withdrawn person. She's nice, and kind, and always willing to help, but the more bubbly side of her can only be seen when she actually warms up to someone -- a task hard to do considering all she's been through. She can be a fighter if she wants to, and it is not uncommon for her to stand up for herself or people close to her, but she's mostly a soft, humble being, which is quite different to the electric abilities she acquired. Aashni is not known to have a bad temper, though she tends to surprise people with her sharp tongue on the off occasion that she has her patience tested.

calliope is very... well, complicated, to say the least. she's energetic, much like a big ball of energy that just refuses to be tamed. she's cheerful and always trying to make people laugh, and at the same time, she's something of an adrenaline junkie. she's addicted to thrill and new experiences. she's always taking a walk on the wild side and living life like she could die any minute. and as much as she radiates happiness and good energy, she has something of a bad temper. honestly it's very out of place in a small girl like herself, who only wishes the best for people, but everyone has their faults. calliope gets angry quickly, and there's no degree for this, as there usually can be with people. it flares up at an instant, lasts a while, till someone can calm her down. sometimes she doesn't even realise when it happens and whatever she does during that period is sort of experienced like a blackout. she just blinks and realises that she's caused some chaos. calliope tries her best not to let anything get to her, but it's hard if her family or friends have been targeted, and usually takes someone close to her to calm her down. aside from this very volatile and dangerous attribute to this very small human being, calliope is a ray of sunshine that can occasionally ooze incredible amounts of either charm or sarcasm and she has a tendency to make a joke out of everything, rarely taking things seriously or like a mature adult. she has yet to grow up and it doesn't look like it will happen soon.

her trauma is definitely a secret. the other things haven't been explicitly discussed since she won't admit to it but she wouldn't be surprised if other people noticed it. cocaine is something she doesn't do in front of others though, and she's discreet when it comes to acquiring it.

history
calliope was born into a musical family. both her parents were famous song writers, and as a result, growing up, cal also took to music, writing a lot of poetry and having duet sessions with her big brother. as she grew older, those little activities became more of a serious endeavour and cal looked to music as something she wanted to pursue in the long run. of course, getting there wasn't easy. especially not after her father turned to drugs and abandoned the family. calliope turned to poetry and ballet as a way to destress and distract herself, but it wasn't long before she turned to other things like drugs, and quickly became afraid that she was going to turn into her father.

her trauma as a teenager -- being sexually assaulted by someone she called a close friend when she was sixteen -- didn't help matters. if anything, it sent her further into a downward spiral of bad habits. she started taking harder, stronger stuff. having her brother around helped, especially after she came to know what he went through, which allowed her to come to terms with her own issues, but ever since the incident, calliope developed some severe trust issues. she tries not to let any of this affect the way she portrays herself to other people, and she's a good actor in that regard because nobody could guess by looking at her vibrant exterior, that she's a girl with so much she's trying to keep hidden away, even from herself.

when her brother started break the silence with a friend, calliope initially just stuck around for practises and because she just loved music so much. eventually, after exhibiting her own talented voice, she joined on as an additional lead singer for the band. focusing more on music has helped her slowly stray away from her bad habits just a little, but calliope definitely has her bad days, and there's never a time where she could consider forgetting her bad habits altogether. at this point that's impossible.
