something general
name
→ penelope lenore alvarez-jones
→puh-ne-low-pee | leh - nohr | al-vah-rez | jow-nz
nicknames
→ poppy | "no poppy, you can't just flip off a teacher." | poppy perhaps is the nickname that people use the most when referring to her. it's just much easier to use than her first name.
→ bambi | "that's so adorable, it's like you're bambi." | poppy has a very young face, and slightly chubby cheeks, so she's mastered the art of getting away with things using her doe eyes. this nickname is one that isaac lahey coined for her.
→ nugget | "come on, nugget. leave the big bad werewolf alone." | poppy is rather short in size -- not that it stops her from taking on much bigger threats though. so, scott affectionately calls her this from time to time.
→ care bear | "so now i've got not only a stuffed one, but a real care bear to take care of." | poppy had one stuffed toy from her childhood that her mother gave her, which was a care bear. considering she would never leat it go, stiles took to calling her his care bear.
→ kiddo | "okay, kiddo, let the grown ups talk now." | poppy will forever be seen as a kid in derek's eyes. a reckless one with violent tendencies, but a kid nonetheless. it's become more of an affectionate nickname over the years, however.
→ mi querida | "it's okay, mi querida. everything will be fine." | poppy doesn't remember much of her mother, but what she knows is that she used to call her this spanish endearment often, perhaps more than her own name.
birthday & age
→ november 16th
→ poppy is seventeen years old
gender & sexuality
→ female
→ heterosexual
ethnicity
→ from what she knows, her mother had hispanic roots. where exactly she was from, poppy has no idea. her father, on the other hand, has roots from england and ireland.
accent
→ poppy was raised speaking spanish till she moved in with her father, so while her voice sounds more or less american now, there are many instances where her tone can take on a spanish tint. especially when she's angry or frustrated, and her accent is very prominent when she's speaking in spanish itself.
occupation
→ high school student | part time fortune teller | part time mechanic | professional ass kicker
about appearances
height
→ poppy takes after her mother in almost ever aspect of her appearance, meaning she also is incredibly short. she stands at a staggering four feet and eight inches.
weight
→ considering poppy doesn't have a lot of meat on her bones -- and considering she may as well be dubbed a dwarf -- she weighs around 35 kgs.
hair
→ poppy's hair is dark brown, and very wavy and thick. it falls a little past her shoulders in a kind of uneven cut since she cuts it herself. usually it's kept open, but she has been known to put it up in a bun when she's working.
eyes
→ poppy has big brown doe eyes that her mother would always say could get people lost in them. close to the pupil, if one looks closely, they would find small light green flecks too.
body
→ poppy is very much on the skinny side. this is attributed to genetics since her mother always had a very sleight build, and also because she has a fast metabolism. she's also very active, so any weight she might put on, is gone by the end of the day. she can never sit still. seriously, it's like she's permanently high on cocaine.
attire
→ poppy's clothes tend to mirror a kind of grunge style. this was not always on purpose. she only owned one pair of jeans and they ripped because of how much she wore them and because of her reckless tendencies, but she quickly became fond of the style. more often than not, though, she likes to stay simple, and wear clothes that are easy for her to move around in.
scars/markings
→ poppy has plenty of scars. she gets fresh ones every day at home, and if that isn't enough, she can't stop herself from getting into fights while at school. to name each scar would take forever.
tattoos & piercings
→ poppy has four piercings on each ear, two of which she did herself.
→ poppy also has a tattoo of a simple rose on her rib cage, in memory of her mother.
health ailments
→ poppy is a pretty healthy person, with no allergies or serious medical conditions. of course, in terms of physical wellbeing, she's always sporting a new bruise or cut but she has long since learned how to treat these injuries. she does also occasionally suffer from migraines due to the voices in her head.
face claim
→ maia mitchell
getting personal
personality
→ poppy is the kind of person you would love to be friends with, but would also simultaneously fear. she has a lot of pent up anger, considering what she faces at home, and as a result, she feels the need to bring it out in some way. she usually does this at school, with bullies or anyone that bothers to test her patience, both students and teachers alike. of course, this means she is often sent home or sent to detention, but poppy does nothing to try and be better or less reckless. she has very violent tendencies, probably because she's been exposed to violence her whole life, and while she may not look like much, she's definitely messed people up before. aside from this of course, poppy is a literal ball of energy. it is impossible for her to sit still, or stop talking, and while she doesn't mean to be blunt, she has a hard time filtering what she says. those close to her understand this enough to look past it, but she often rubs off the wrong way on new people. of course, it's all a part of her spunk. she has extreme highs and lows. she can be jumping up and down and grinning one second while talking about doing something utterly crazy, and she can also turn quiet and reserved and perhaps just stewing in her own anger or frustration the next second. all in all, poppy is a great friend. she's loyal to no end, and constantly throwing herself into dangerous situations to ensure her loved ones remain safe. the scars on her body are never ending, but they all tell a story, and while some are terrible stories, poppy will never not stick up for what she believes in, even if this will just earn her more injuries. she's a spitfire, but she's also an adorable munchkin. there's no in between.

fears
→ her father | ever since she came into his care, he's just abused poppy nonstop. it doesn't help that he thinks she's a freak, just like her mother. she does whatever she can to prevent him from taking his anger out on her little brother, which only means that she gets more and more of the pain. she may be strong and ferocious on the outside, but in front of her father, she's just a kid too afraid to do anything to stop him from attacking her.
→ being touched by new people | it's different with someone she feels comfortable with, but when poppy is around new people and they immediately decide to hug, or they touch her even just casually, especially if it's a male, poppy can be triggered. she'll either become violent or have a panic attack.
→ heights | she isn't sure where the fear stems from but she's always been afraid of heights.
mental ailments
→ insomnia | there are many reasons that poppy can't sleep at night. one is the fear that her father could walk in at any minute and beat her to a pulp. the other is because she's constantly haunted by voices.
→ ptsd | considering all the abuse she's faced, poppy has a bad case of ptsd, especially since she still suffers from that abuse. she is very prone to panic attacks or outbursts because of this.
→ bipolar disorder | she was not officially diagnosed, but poppy definitely exhibits signs of being bipolar. in fact, it was lydia who pointed out.
→ adhd | once again, not diagnosed, but she exhibits almost all the signs of having an attention deficit disorder.
memorable quotes
the supernatural
species
→ seer, but she also has a bit of dryad blood since her great grandmother (maternal) had been a dryad. it is unclear how her mother became a seer, however. deaton speculates that one of her ancestors must have been a seer and it skipped a few generations before reaching her mother, and then the powers were only amplified in poppy.
how she found out about her species
→ deaton told her. apparently, they're a very rare type of species and the last one deaton had ever heard of had been alive decades ago. poppy's mother had been a seer too, however, she was just very good at hiding that fact.
abilities
→ being a seer is something of a danger in the supernatural world, as hunters and creatures alike like to keep one, considering their abilities. poppy can hear voices, thoughts that other people have in their heads, though not all the time. the just tend to latch onto her sometimes and unless she recognises the voice, she won't know who said it. sometimes the voices all come at once, giving her a terrible headache. they have been known to make her ears and nose bleed on occasion. that's how one would be able to tell that she's experiencing too much. apart from this, poppy has clairvoyance. she can tell loads about a person or an object by just touching them/it. she can see into their past, present and future, though the latter is much harder and usually just comes as glimpses that don't always make sense. she can also, to an extent, predict the general future, but only if the future holds a massive change. and she can't call on this. it just comes to her whenever it pleases. with her distant dryad blood, poppy also has a connection with nature. she feels like she can understand and speak to plants and animals, and to an extent, she can help plants grow.
how she found out about the supernatural
→ poppy always knew something was wrong with her since she could hear voices even as a child. her mother always told her she was just special, and poppy had come to accept it till she thought she could bring this up normally in front of her father once she moved in with him and he berated her for speaking about it. she was a freak, in his eyes. someone who wasn't normal. and for that, she needed to be punished. poppy tried to suppress and ignore her powers for a while, but that only made her condition worse, so she opted to just not tell anyone. when scott became a werewolf, she caught on immediately, mainly because she had been able to see this particular memory when her hand brushed against his in class a few days ago. as it was, the boys had been intending on telling her anyway since they never were able to get anything past her. of course, they didn't know this was because of her ability, and soon, after being introduced to deaton, poppy learned much more about the supernatural, and about what she was.
her backstory
mother
→ rosa renee alvarez | deceased | "it hurts so bad." | poppy only knew her mother for about eight years, but in those eight years she saw a lot. her mother always did her best to take care of her, but as years went by, she was going more and more crazy due to the voices she heard in her head. exactly on poppy's eighth birthday, her mother drove her to a house in beacon hills and said she would find her father there. poppy never saw her mother again after that, but she was found by cops a few days later in a storage cellar, where she parked her car and killed herself with carbon monoxide poisoning.
father
→ michael torrance jones | alive | lawyer | "i don't love you. and i will never live in this house with you.and i will never call you my father again." | poppy's father had never known she had existed till she showed up at his doorstep. he quickly remembered the fling he'd had a while ago -- while he was still a married man -- and while he didn't want to keep her in his home, he knew that banishing her wouldn't do well for his image as one of beacon hills' best lawyers. so, he took her in and took care of her. well, that's what people think anyway. he's hated her from the moment she came into his life and all his anger is taken out on her, if not his own wife and son. but since his wife makes more public appearance and can't afford to show any bruising, she isn't dealt with much. it's mostly just poppy that bears the brunt of it all, and as long as it doesn't reach her younger brother, she is more than okay with this.
brother
→ jason 'jace' lance jones | alive | fourteen years old | "he's my best friend." | younger by three years, and technically only her half brother, poppy treats him like he's more or less her son. she's very protective of him, ever since she entered the jones' household. she was young then, but nothing stopped her from wanting to protect him with her life. as he grew older, their father seemed to think he could earn a few bad punishments too, which was why whenever jason got into trouble, poppy did her best to do something even worse so that attention would be taken off of him. in turn, jason is also very protective of poppy, and is perhaps the one he loves most in the house, since his mother isn't much of a caring person. these siblings are each other's anchors in that household. just till poppy turns eighteen, after which she hopes to take jason away from the toxic life they currently live.
other relationships
→ elizabeth marie jones | step mother | alive | "you act like you care about me so much but you don't." | her step mother never liked her. never liked that her husband had cheated on her and had another kid. of course, she would never show her anger to her husband unless she wanted a slap in the face, so she took her anger out on poppy by pretending she didn't exist and turning a blind eye to whatever abuse she faced. poppy hates her, but not nearly as much as she hates her father.
→ simon moore | ex boyfriend | alive | "when i told him i wasn't ready, he forced me... um, he forced me to have sex with him." | poppy's first real relationship just happened to be the most terrible one ever. simon was nice at first. loving, teasing, playful, and he made poppy feel good. he was known around school for being something of a womaniser, but fifteen year old poppy was just aching to be loved, and even though she had her friends, she never thought anything would come of her and stiles, considering she believed he was head over heels for lydia. poppy got into a relationship quickly, but it wasn't long before simon began to pressure poppy, making her do things she didn't want. eventually, he wanted to have sex with her, and she didn't want to because she thought it was too soon. simon, however, wasn't taking no for an answer, and so he forced her into it. and thus, poppy had another man in her life she was afraid of. she wanted to leave simon, but he became more and more dominant and possessive, and close to abusive if she ever rejected his advances. it only ended when he moved out of town with his family. to this day, only lydia knows what truly happened because she found poppy crying at a party, shortly after the incident took place.
→ stiles stilinski | best friend | alive | "do i have feelings for you? of course i have feelings for you. i'll always have feelings for you." | stiles is easily poppy's best friend, but also someone she's in love with. she's too scared to admit it of course, because she believes he still has feelings for lydia, and since lydia is her friend, she doesn't want to come between them. all that aside, however, poppy became stiles' friend the moment she moved into beacon hills. they lived down the same street and were classmates and quickly struck up a friendship. this led to also becoming friends with scott and they were like the three musketeers, causing trouble and just enjoying their time together. stiles is poppy's closest confidante, aside from her little brother, and for the past few years, even he has grown more suspicious about the injuries she shows up to class with. while poppy explains that she just fought with someone, it's getting harder and harder for her to keep up that lie.
→ scott mccall | best friend | alive | "you can't shut us out." | poppy met scott after meeting stiles, and they got along very quickly too. he's her other best friend, one she has confided in about her feelings for stiles. when he struggled in the beginning with being a werewolf, poppy put him in his place with a bit of tough love and he knows he can always count on her to set him straight.
→ isaac lahey | best friend | alive | "i want to thank you for believing in me when i didn't believe in myself." | isaac was someone she met in school when she started playing lacrosse, and before he was turned. she noticed the bruising and she knew better than anyone where those came from, as many excuses as he made about it. they talked about it with each other, and outside school, he is easily the one she knows she can call her anchor, and he feels the same.
→ derek hale | alpha, friend | alive | "don't be a jackass." | while poppy was initially quite wary of derek, considering she could read auras and find out people's intentions, she was perhaps the first of her two other friends to trust derek and look up to him as a mentor. he in turn is rather fond of her, even if he feels the need to keep her in line and keep her from doing stupid, dangerous things.
→ lydia martin | friend | alive | "what did you just call us?" | while they are very different, and despite knowing that stiles had a crush on her, lydia was perhaps the one she felt connected to because of her own abilities. they were slightly different, but they're able to talk to each other about it since they know that the other is the only one who is even remotely close to understanding it. poppy gets very defensive if at all anyone calls them 'freaks'.
biography
→ poppy grew up with her mother for eight years, which were hard times. money was a struggle and it didn't help that poppy had to watch her mother slowly go insane and suicidal. when the voices plagued her mother too much, she drove poppy to her father's house, having known where it was even if she never stayed in contact with him after their fling. poppy's presence -- rather, existence -- came as a surprise to her father, but taking his public image into consideration, he took her in as his daughter. and thus began the string of abuse she received at his hands. through it all, she found friendship with stiles and scott, and then more people at school, and eventually became introduced to the other supernaturals in beacon hills where poppy felt more normal and less like a freak, like her father would always call her. poppy is just waiting to turn eighteen so she can get out of that house and take her brother jason with her.
extras

→ poppy has run away from home three times since she began living with her father, but after witnessing him hit her half brother, poppy decided to never do that again so she could be around to protect jason.
