"Knock knock."

"No. No no and hell no."

"Aw come on... Just one more joke?"

"Fine, go ahead... Only one. Any more than that and I will shoot you."

"Knock knock."

"Who's there?"

"Dèja."

"Dèja who?"

"Knock knock."

There was a flash of a gun and the sound echoed across the empty street.

"Ow you fucking jackass!"

"I think you should be more worried about your ass at the moment. What with the bleeding wound and all."

"Fuck you! Fuck you fuck you fuck you! Fucking shit!"

"Just walk it off. You'll heal in five minutes anyways."

"Just because I heal doesn't mean it doesn't fucking hurt!"

"Sorry, waiter, I didn't ask for the whine."

The human genome, always changing in minuscule ways... Until someone comes on the radar with the ability to throw cars with their mind. Until someone accidentally burns down a house due to the fire spewing from their fingertips. Until someone goes into a blood rage and takes numerous lives.

Until things evolve.

Humans were beginning to pick up new traits as the world began to crumble under the weight of overpopulation. Maybe it was Momma Nature's way of reconquering her turf. Create a difference, insight the opportunity for violence, let a problematic species crumble.

Whatever the case, shit went down.

A war between the Empowered and Norms began. Billions of lives were lost on both sides. Eventually, there were so few humans that war was put on the back burner. Cities lay empty, infrastructure and any sense of government destroyed. Survival was the only thing in the minds of the few left.

And that's where our story begins.
