Oh the Japanese and their overacting. Still, I nerdgasm'd when the original Wave Motion Cannon showed up.
 
With regards to the overacting, it's what makes it all the more 'true' to the original work, in my opinion.

Well duh. All Japanese media seems to be overacted. I especially like toku acting. They all got Tourette's in their necks. Its awesome.
