How To Train Your Enemy Mine

An unpleasant rasp and the reptilian went right past both Nickolas and the camp fire, outside the cave entrance and out into the darkness. Cracks like the sharp report of a gunshot or the first sky-splitting tear of thunder before the rumble, the sounds flew through the cold mountain air and echoed to the back of the cave. Then the reptilian came back standing upright, with what looked like an entire dead bare tree dragged behind it in its four limbs, with each major branch ripped from the main trunk and the trunk itself torn into chunks. --In seconds it had split a forty foot alpine tree into strips.

It placed the unwieldy branch and trunk lengths beside the fire and Nickolas, touched his hand and a wood chunk expectantly, even though this had come from a living undried tree only good for sending up coughing smoke rather than burning.

Nickolas watched as the creature walked past him, he wasnt sure why the creature was going out, but Nickolas knew that it will be fine, probably able to kill everything on earht. Nickolas was freezing, his entire body shivering arms wrapped around his body and making sounds with his theet, that meant how cold he was feeling... Few minutes have past and the creature wasnt here yet, was he gone? Maybe, Nickolas wasnt sure... But actually he wanted the thing to come back, it was interesting with it around, and Nickolas was starting to get curious, if only the creature could speak it will be very goood, cuz Nickolas had so many questions. Hearing those loud thunder sounds that meant that the weather will get even colder. Sighting he closed his eyes for a while, his nose red as a pepper and his lips blue from the cold.

But then in a minute latter, the creature was back carrying branches from a tree and they were a lot and a trunk as well... Nickolas looked at them... but he knew that he couldnt use those branches... They are wet, and he knew they will be, he won't be able to keep the fire going with them, it will only make it went off quickly... It was nice though that the creature brought them here, but he won't be able to use them... Looking back at the creature with a sad look on his face "I can use them they are wet" He said not sure if the thing understod him... Staying up and walking closer to the trunk, staying down on his knees he touched the trunk with his hand feeling how wet it is. "Touch it" He placed his other hand on top of the creature's hand and then pointed to the branch trying to say to the creature to touch the trunk... "Now touch the others" He pointed to the dryed branches so that the creature could make a differance.

Reptilian did as the human directed and gestured. It even bent low down on all sixes to the height of a mere lizard to lick the two different types of tree parts in order to understand the human's lesson with sensory sensitivity better than hardened fingertips would allow. After sampling both it went back to the first and did the same test, then straightened to the full tigerlike height and crocodile length on all six limbs. One reached for the human's shoulder, looking him in the eye with a jerk of its head. Reptilian turned him towards the cave mouth and gave a push, padding alongside together.

Nickolas saw as the creature did what he was told, he hoped that now he sees the difference. The bad thing is that there are probably no dry trees outside that they can get more branches from, Nickolas will have to make it through the night without freezing to death, but it will be hard, without branches, he didnt thought that the weather will be so harsh, he needed more trees.

But then he was pushed up by the creature and turned to the cave's entrance, looking at the creature as he was pushing him towards the entrance "Wait what. You want to go outside. I cant I will freez to death" He said not knowing how to tell the creature that he cant go outside, he is showing it, by al those shivers and with his red nose and blue lips that the creature could see, that was enough for him to understand how cold e felt and of cours eht eshivering of his body, he just can go out in this weather.

A stare. One muscular thumb longer than the Nickolas's hand and wrist and with a talon as long as his own finger, came towards him. It brushed the blue lips, red nose, and the Reptilian's face jerked back like a startle. But then it growled, picked up one of the dry acceptable branches and thrust it out to the human's chest, pushed hard at the man's back to propel him towards the entrance anyway. Overpowering force from the dragonlike creature the size of a horse had the hiker completely in its power.

Could be dying either way. Risk the cold and dropping to the snow in a faint from which he'd never awaken? Or risk seconds of life in relative safety and warmth before being torn to shreds?

Nickolas tryed to go back, but he was forced by the creature, not allowing him to go back. Staying still when the creature touched his lips and his nose, he couldnt feel his nose that much, and this was bad. Nickolas had to go and warm up, to go back to the fire. H tried to, but then when Nickolas was about to turn around and walk back, the thing growled at him and pushed him hard to the entrance, he almost fell on his legs, but he didnt, he was ok, but didnt want to walk out of the cave "No I will freeze" He said not sure what the creature was trying to do and then he was pushed again and he was out in the cold freezing weather with the wind blowing hard snow falling like crazy, the snow on the ground was up to his knees which was making Nickolas feel even more colder, he didnt knew what the creature was trying to do, but he had no other choise, but to follow him.

Reptilian still held the one good dry branch it had retrieved from the pile. Manipulating the human's hands and fingers with its larger reptile paws was like peeling grapes with a hatchet, not to simply sever a few fingers instead. So rather than forcing the human to take the sample kindling it wrapped its paw around the kindling sample and the delicate human hand both. This arm pointed towards the woods beyond the cave, moving the human's limb also with that kindling stick leading the way like a wand. Its mouth was slightly parted, urging sounds from its throat. The reptilian looked from the human to the woods and back to the human again. Propelled the human forwards.

Ncikoals had to walk to where the creature was aking him, he didnt knew where they were going, he could see the woods close to them and they were walking towards them "Where are you taking me" He said loudly cuz the snow storm was so big that made loud sounds. It was hard for Nickolas to walk, the snow was blowing right in his face and body and he could barely walk, his body was getting numb, he barely felt his feet they were starting to get very very cold, and his hands as well, it was hard for the blood to reach them and they were starting to froze. "I cant" He barely said, knowing that he won;t be able to walk much in this snow storm, but he still continued cuz the creature won't allow him to go back.

It waved the good branch some more, held it in front of the human's face, pointed with it to the heights of the trees around them... and then when the human proved unresponsive it gave a cross between a shriek and a bellow. Reptilian picked the human up in two of its arms without trying and marched back into the cave entrance, set the small sentient being down beside the meager fire and went back out.

Crack after crack was heard, split after split. The powerful alien broke down tree after tree and dragged them inside the cave between the fire and the entrance. When half that space was filled by roughage it stripped down the smallest bits of tiny branches that barely had any snow upon their surface and set them aside. The powerful creature built all the rest up between the fire and the cold outside like a beaver dam, sealing the two beings inside.

Nickolas was breathing heavily and he was starting to walk slowly and slowly, it was so cold, what did this creature had in mind. He asked hm, but their was no response probably couldnt understand him, which was bad for Nickols and that pocking with the stick was just annying him, not that he carred, but he really couldnt take it anymore, if he stays a few minutes longer outside he will freez compleatly.

But then he felt the creature grabbing him and he looked at it feeling that his scales were warmer then Nickola;s body, the creature was carrying him so easily, with only his two arms... Very quickly they were back in the cave and Nickolas was placed down on the ground... Nickolas layed down when the thing left feeling tired and still freezing, but trying to warm himself up... But soon he fell a sleep even before the creature came inside with the woods, the creature will have to wake him up if he wants some help.

Barrier complete, at least the outside temperature would no longer mix with the cave interior even though the air and stone flooring inside wasn't much better. It wouldn't get any worse, at least. And as the air heated just a little bit from the fire, it radiated a little more strongly without having to compete with the iciness of all outdoors.

Reptilian grumbled to itself. The human's backpack, it dumped everything hard such as thermos, cutting blade and climbing hooks - keeping the potentially dangerous tools. That canvas, the changes of clothes inside, and the canvas itself it piled up on top of the lying, unconscious human. The rolled blanket and sleeping bag also, it draped upon the smaller more vulnerable form. Then a third of the remaining good branches, not very much left at all, it dropped on top of the fire, startling at the reaction of almost choking the flames from that much of an addition at once. The tongues of fire balanced out, functioning and consuming as before. Then the Reptilian lied down on its belly, legs and all four arms tucked under and hiding the potential weapons as a precaution. It had wedged itself between the fire and Nickolas, and was now laying its head down close to its chest and going dormant.

Nickolas opened his eyes qwhen he felt something dropping on top of his body . He blinked a few times, but still didnt opened them, turning around to the side, rolling over a few times wanting to go to sleep again, but it was to cold laying like this on the ground. Opening his eyes now fully and brushing them with his hands he sat up and wincked a few times, he looked at the entrance and saw that it was sealed the creature probably did it.... A small smile grew on his face and then he started sneexing.

He sneezed maybe a minute without stoping, tears dropped from his eyes from so many sneezes whiping the tears with his hands from his face he leaned his head back opening his mouth and breathing deep "Fuck... Im getting sick" He said to himself and then he looked at the sleeping beast. Smiling at him. Nickolas wanted to touch him so much again, but will he be allowed to... Pushing the clothes that the creature had dropped on his body and everything else on the ground. He stood up and slowly walked next to the creature. Standing down on his knees, the beast was still very big, even though he was laying.... And then he moved his right arm, placing his hand on the creature's shoulder wwll one of the shoulder. Touching carefuly, placing each finger slowly and slowly and then his hand on the creature;s shoulder, feeling those hard scales.... He didnt move or anything looking at the creature's eyes wanting to see if he is waking... But he wasnt. So Nickolas started moving his hand up touching the creature's neck, which felt softer then the shoulder, and up slowly to his face, but then slid it back to the creature's neck... That place felt so soft against the humans hand, it was still covered with scales, but it was different.

A rasp sounded out when those exploring touches finally landed on its neck, and it also gave sluggish blinks and a head lift. With a grumble it extended that long tail and poked, pulled and dragged the human's cloth pile right beside its own body and the human's to form bedding rather than covers. Then it grunted in a speech-like pattern and laid one heavy hand upon the human, directing him down by patient weight and pressure rather than force and pushing. Fire on one side, it tried to press the human into lying fully against its exposed side. Other than tail and single limb, the rest had barely moved with the stupor.

Reptilian's place where it lied was right beside the fire as the first time before they'd gone outside, closer than a fleshy human could dare to come because of sparks. And the place where Nickolas now occupied as he investigated was the closest safe spot to the camp fire, even with the muscular bulk shielding the man from the flame and sharing the remaining heat from its body.

Nickolas obseved the creature while it slept, with his hand placed gently on its neck brushing slowly and gently with his finger tips trying not to wake him up... But then when Nickolas saw the creature opening his eyes, he quickly moved his hand away from the creature's neck not knowing what it will do to Nickolas. He tryed to stay calm, and he hoped that the creature didnt mind that Nickolas was touching him... And then he saw a pile of clothes beeing gather by the creature, next to him... Nickolas waited and moved a little to give space to the creature, he was thinking that he was doing this for Nickolas, but he wasnt sure... But he was riight.

His eyes shifted right at the hand where the creeature had placed on Nickla's body... He was so strong, he could feel how much that hand weighted, he could it, but he had to say it was heavy, now he was curious how much the creature weighted... Shaking his head, he lay down next to the creature on top of the pile of clothes... It was still cold, but he had to say standing so close to the creature made Nickolas feel warm... Moving even closer, a few inches away from touching the creature with his own body. But Nickolas, just layd like this, very close to him, but not daring to touch him... Placing a hand under his head he closed his eyes, mouth open taking as much as air as possible and closed his eyes, trying to go to sleep.

The great reptile turned its head to regard once again with its twin sets of eyes, moved the remaining inch or two between the two species and melded its body against the human's, wherever their respective lengths could align. It did its best not to pinch the edge of the man between itself and the cave's rock floor with its callous mass. Hissing softly, it wound its tail over the prone human's legs and up to his waist and secured him in place better, then attempted to pass the rest of the night in near-hibernation stupor.

The human stayed still close to the creature watching at him with both his eyebrows raised when the creature started to get closer to him and soon Nickolas could feel his body pressed against the creature's scaled one. But he had to say the feeling was so so... different, the creature was warm and even though he had clothes on him Nickolas could still feel the difference. And then he looked down to his legs when he saw that tail making its way up to his legs and then landinfg on his waist securely. Nickolas had his mouth opened widely very surprised, who knew that a monster can take care of someone.

Nickolas placed his hand slowly and gently on top of the creature's tail touching it wanting to feel how those scales felt against his human skin. Watching with surprise as how those hard scales were almsot going to pierce through his skin, but didn, actually did the other way around, at the end of the tail they were getting softer and softer, it was amazing, even their color changed into more lighter once from the light od the fire. Nickolas shook his head and placed his other hand under his head and looked up at the creature's face looking at him without blincking. He didnt said a word, nor did he needed he was sure that the creature knew what he was thinking... Moving his hand from the creature's tail and placing it on his scaled chest he started closing his eyes, slowly and slowly, and soon he fell a sleep with his hand still on the creature's chest while he is sleeping.

Those eyes that seemed to be reading the human's mind were merely covered by the first transparent inner eyelid, appearing open though otherwise sheltered. The slumbering one missed most of that exploration and wouldn't have much cared about the human's inquisitiveness if it did realize.

After several hours, even the quality of air and light within the cave had changed. The fire had depleted, and the bare cache of useful branches gave proof that either reptile or mammal had stirred to feed the flames at least once. Thin wintery daylight filtered through the cracks at the beaver dam structure blocking the entrance.

The reptile rose to all sixes, gave a small jerk and doubletake when the human's arm flopped to the cave floor and cloth bedding, indicating that the limb had been partially attached upon him. With foreign hissing it stretched all six of its powerful limbs one at a time; lengthened, arched and then rounded its back, and flexed its tail in sweeps and curls. The growl it reported sounded weaker than the previous day's.

Upright on two legs now, it gave the human a few more minutes of rest as it tore a hole in the branch barrier, exposing its snout to daylight and the chill beyond. Worse outside than their insulated haven with their own bodies and the expired fire, or better outside now that daylight had mitigated the environment after the night's temperature drop? The reptile snuffled to determine, but either way, this was one brutal habitat.

The night was better then Nickolas had expected it to be. With the reptail sharing his warmth with the human it was better and he didnt freeze to death actually it was pretty warm, and with that fire it was good as well. He had slept a few hours, he didnt really wanna get up, but the sunlight was shining right in his eyes which was making them open, blinking a few times he turned the other way, but it didnt mattered, cuz now he was awoke.

He could feel that the creature wasnt near him. Yawnign a few times he sat up and streached his arms and back as well. Staying up he saw that the entrance of the cave was open. alking closer and slowly otside the cave he looked up at the clear sky, the sun shining bright and no cloud in the sky, it was a lot more better then the previous night, it was so warm right now. Even though that the snow wasnt going to melt it was still warm.

Nickolas brushed his eyes with his fingers and searched for the creature with his eyes... And then he saw it "Hey" He shouted. He wasnt sure what to say to it or what to do now, but he jsut wanted to be around it. Walking closer, but hard with that snow up to his knees, but he was still walking.

The four-armed reptile swiveled to face the human as it approached. Red eyes appeared to give the striding male the alien's full attention. After a few awkward human strides in which the man had to break through the frozen snow crust, the taller creature closed the distance between them more easily. Bending, it sniffed the human's chest, throat and face. Touched the human's stubby nose and flimsy, padded lips with one soft-scaled finger pad. The deadly talon attached was so long it curled out of reach of the face but in danger of spearing the human's ear, capable of severing the top half of the man's head free in one swift second, but touching gently.

As Nickolas approached slowly he looked down. The snow was so frozen that it was har to move, but he managged to and seeing that the creature had his full attention and was coming closer... Nickolas stopped and stayed still as the creature was sniffing him again. Chest, face it was kind of funny, he couldnt understand why the reptail was sniffing him again... But then his eyes widened when he felt tha finger on his nose and lips, but that wasnt what worried him, he could definatly feel a small portion of that big tallon touching his ear.... But he knew that the creature was careful. Nickolas moved his hand slowly to the creature's hand placing his small hand on top of the alien's gigantic paw and pushing it gently trying to say to the creature to be careful or to get his hand from his face if he can hurt him.
