Name:
Ren Katsuragi
Age:
15
Year:
1st
Orientation:
Unaware Homosexual
Type:
Currently not involved with the host club at all (although he probably will be rather soon).
Personality:
Ren is terrified of crowds. Not because he's particularly shy, but because he is rather insecure, and also easily embarrassed and flustered. He hates being the center of attention, and usually does his best to melt in with his surroundings. This probably has to do with his timid and modest nature. Before he came to ouran, he did manage to make a few friends, but they were all more or less like him. Socially awkward or not, Ren does have some sort of desire to be seen and noticed, a need for attention. He is the kind of person most people tend to ignore and forget, which hurts him sometimes more than he shows. Despite often coming off as happy go lucky, Ren does not always act this way. Having grown up in a sheltered environment and with doting parents, Ren has become somewhat naïve and oblivious to many things in the world. Ren is at the happiest when talking to someone about one of his interests, or when engaging in them. He is a kind boy at heart, and cares for the people around him. He also enjoys writing, and is actually rather good at it… as opposed to his drawing skills, which he has delusions about, thinking they are a lot better than they actually are. Despite being spoiled from a young age, he doesn't act very spoiled at all, and tends to be rather simple and down to earth… unless he's talking about his favorite anime series.
Appearance:
As an almost painfully slender and short young man with the physical durability of an over-used napkin, Ren is the inevitable sore thumb that sticks out if you'd line him up with other guys his age. Comparing him to the average "physicality" of the fifteen-year-old boy demographic would be like measuring a mosquito to an elephant. Ren sports a shaggy, yet silky mishmash of sand blonde hair that reaches about ear-length and freely drapes across his head - More often than not obstructing his vision, though he can never be convinced to cut it shorter since he's sure it wouldn't "fit" him aesthetically. His eyes are a pure golden color, always peering through thin-framed glasses that rest calmly on the bridge of Ren's nose. He has a slightly tanned, though still bordering pale, skin that is devoid of any noteworthy scarring. The clothes he wears tend to be simple and surprisingly cheap, as he doesn't care much for fashion and trends. He just wants comfortable clothes that don't stand out- if he can get them for an agreeable prize that's just a plus.
Relationships:
Akari Katsuragi [Mother]
Kanon Katsuragi [Father]
Skills:
Ren is good at writing, although for some reason his main interest lies in drawing, which he certainly has zero talent for. Nevertheless he has a good imagination, and it shows in his fictional texts. He is also a rather seasoned gamer, though nothing beats his seemingly never ending database of otaku facts, which he loves to spout when excited. He also has a unbelievably strong tolerance and patience, considering he can spend his time doing one thing hours on end, without losing focus even once. This, however, requires that whatever he is doing has managed to catch his interest. Only then he is able to totally immerse himself in whatever activity is on hand. He also tends to be fairly tolerant with people, though as mentioned above gets nervous in crowds.
Strengths:
Determined, Sweet, Maths, Studying, Writing, Imaginative, Kind and Caring, Down to Earth, Affectionate, Modest.
Weaknesses:
Drawing, Crowds, Stubborness, Almost anything having to do with the otaku world, Naivety, Snacks, Edging towards Social Phobia, Obliviousness, Sheltered, Physically Weak, Cute Things, Vegetables.
History:
Ren was born as the first and only son of the Katsuragi family. With his mother being a first rate actress and model, and his father the president of a successful, world famous business empire- the route Ren was meant to go was already decided for him from birth. His parents, however, despite being loving (and perhaps a little doting), had little time for their son and as such, Ren was in a way often left to his own devices. It is true that he had a lot of people who took care of him in their stead. Sometimes it was almost as though his parents tried to replace their presence with materialistic objects, and Ren was constantly spoiled by them.
Being shy of nature and disliking confrontation, Ren knew already from an early that neither the showbiz, nor the business world were anything for him. Despite his parents efforts to convince him otherwise, Ren became more and more of a recluse as the years went by… until he had finally developed full-fledged otaku. When not spending his time home, indulging himself in otaku related activities or books (which also are one of his interests), Ren would often spend time with the small otaku club that had formed at the middle school he was attending.
Around the time he turned fifteen, his parents finally decided it was enough. Despite how much they adored their cute little baby son, they realized that they couldn't let him continue walking this road any longer. He needed to do something with his life, and preferably not something that would ultimately classify him as a dork and ruin the entire family reputation. So in hopes of turning him into a responsible and idealistic young man, fit to replace his father as president for the company or entering the showbiz world like his mother, they made the decision to send him to Ouran. Pfft, they hope the other rich kids will have a good influence on him (as if that's what's actually going to happen. X3).
Ren didn't have my choice in the matter, and before he knew completely what was going on he was already packing his bags and forced to say goodbye to his few friends. Ren isn't particularly thrilled about the fact that he's attending such a prestigious school. What happens next… still remains to be seen…
