Hoods & Capes
[All Original Superhero RP]
Character Signups and Out of Character Discussion Threads

A few quick rules and notes:
  • There is no limit to how many characters a participant may play at once.
  • It is allowed for a player to ignore a player controlled character to focus on another one of their characters so long as it makes sense to the plot (i.e.they aren't in the middle of a plot that the character is already of an important role).
  • The character skeleton I am about to provide is just to showcase the preferred information. There is no specific format to the skeleton you present to the group, and it is okay to add as much additional information as you'd like to.
  • ORIGIN AND BACK STORY ARE 100% OPTIONAL. One of the single player and character arc options is to write out an origin story, either one on one with myself or another player, or through the multiplayer game play. You do not need to include your origin story.
  • Until I'm told otherwise, missions will be posted here for writers to claim. There will be a separate In Character thread for missions to actually take place in. I will be including an example of the mission format along with my two main characters below.
  • In a player vs player scenario, until we work out a better system (whether is be dice and stat or another mechanic) players must discuss the fight and outcome with each other prior to the end of the exchange. Any player who goes against this rule and god modes themselves to victory will face consequences which I have not come up with yet. Please don't break this rule, I don't want to have to enact any consequences on anyone.
  • There is no dedicated face claim style. You can use real, anime, cartoon, sketched, whatever you want to use. You can use a preexisting superheroes' super suit as yours, as long as the character is still original for you. You can also pick through articles of clothing and such to build a suit.
  • Keep the superpowers street level. We aren't cosmic entities who can manipulate the space/time continuum.
  • This thread is for both single player and multiplayer oriented characters. Underneath your character's name, I'm going to have to require you to specify if it's a single player or a multiplayer [or both] oriented character. It is allowed for a player to participate in both a single player and a multiplayer at once. Specifying what you're looking for helps both myself and others know what you're looking for with your character.
  • Have fun, cause some [In Character] drama, overcome obstacles and most of all, have fun.

Nicole Santiago

Anarchy

Multiplayer | Single Player

Age 24 | Female

104 Pounds | 5'4

Telekinetic | Martial Arts Expert

Before taking up the helm of Anarchy, Nicole Santiago had graduated the George Washington University studying Applied Forensics in their Forensic Psychology program. She worked part time as a bar tender, and was a frequent at her local MMA gym. With her deadly focus and ability to truly apply herself to any study, she had attended all of the martial arts classes they had held and made space in her brain for a myriad of different styles of martial arts. It's not fair to call her brain an encyclopedia, but Nicole has an index of knowledge around self defense and attack styles. Her biggest problem with applying her knowledge of hand-to-hand combat is that trying to blend the moves into combination attacks and defenses. She trains as often as she possibly can to overcome that struggle.

7289868.jpg
Anarchy was created two weeks after her brother had disappeared. Nicole's family had informed the police that her brother, Antonio, had quietly disappeared. In an act of cliched lazy writing, the police department seemed to not have been pushing any efforts into finding Antonio. Nicole broke into her brother's apartment using the spare key he had given her. She turned his apartment upside down looking for clues until she found her way to his computer. Filing through his emails, she found a discussion with someone from the Back Pages, and they had given him their direct street address. Nicole went to the address, keeping her profile low to just scope out the area. She saw multiple people coming in and out of the house. When she came back, Nicole had a makeshift costume to try and hide her identity, and she came knocking. Filled with anger and hate, she beat and borderline tortured information out of the man from the emails.

Now complete with her own custom costume, Anarchy was completely born. After a raid on a drug house belonging to some street level gang, said to have knowledge on her brother's location, The Night Watcher intervened. He didn't brandish her a threat to the city, instead finding himself curious about her story. Listening to what she said, and taking in the knowledge that same gang she had just went after was luring and kidnapping innocent people to work in their drug manufacturing shops, The Night Watcher decided to help her. Together, the two of them had broken the gang's drug manufacturing operation from the inside, taking out both the workshops and incapacitating the dealers that they sent out to sell the product. Nicole had gotten her brother back with the help of The Night Watcher, and the two of them had decided they work fairly well as a team. The Night Watcher convinced her to keep the mask on, because what the city needed was more heroes. They have been known to team up quite frequently, taking on any and all issues that the two need help with.

Conner Lockheart

The Night Watcher

Multiplayer | Single Player

Age 35 | Male

216 Pounds | 5'11

Superhuman Strength | Master strategist

Beating the 'brains over brawn' stereotype, Conner had always been considered strong. Mentally he had survived his mother's losing stint with cancer and his father's pain killer addiction, having to care for his younger brothers and his father from a young age, and physically he had been increasingly more muscular than the other kids. He was mentally and physically strong, which lead to him playing football through high school. He acted as the starting middle linebacker, backup strong safety, and could play any position on the defensive line. He was able to play for three years, until he made a tackle that nearly left his target paralyzed by accident. Looking for a new niche, Conner took his love for rock n' roll and started exploring heavy metal, which eventually lead to him forming a locally successful heavy metal band. He never ended up going to college or university, but instead works part time selling games of mini-put on a golf course. He was just scraping by, and couldn't be happier with his life. He had reached his own personal level of success, and nothing could ever bring him down from his high.

That high got even higher in the form of a revelation. As he was crossing the Theodore Roosevelt Bridge in his dad's old 1989 Ford Crown Victoria after an out of state show with his band, he found himself in the middle of a life threatening situation. At 14:00 hours the night before, an experimental government battle suit had been stolen from a top secret military testing island in the north-east of the Atlantic Ocean. That suit was quickly found; Conner watched it land on the middle of the bridge and start firing it's high tech weaponry, destroying cars, portions of the bridge, and killing hundreds in less than five minutes. Realizing he couldn't just sit there and watch people get slaughtered, but didn't know what he could do to stop it. With his fight or flight instinct kicking in, he rushed to combat the suit. He realized how strong he was after he managed to take out the suit's rocket launchers, getting behind his target. His brain took over his body, causing him to throw a car at the launchers. It was as if someone else had taken over his body and caused him to move, but he would later decide that it was just his mind showing him his true capabilities.

Now aware that his strength is much more than just good genetics, and with a stolen piece of high tech experimental equipment on the loose, Conner fastened the helm of The Night Watcher. He didn't blame himself for the suit escaping after their fight on the bridge, but he knew that he had to do something about it. He was aware of the fact that this had to have come from some sort of military base, and that in order to steal from the base, it was more than a one man operation.
moon-knight-wallpaper.jpg
He suspected a form of paramilitary terrorists or something of the likes, and because the first attack happened in Washington, something big was about to happen. So now, Conner has said goodbye to his spare time, and is officially he whom watches the streets at night.

After searching the streets for answers, looking for illegal weapons trades or someone who can offer him any information, The Night Watcher had come across Anarchy in her battle against the street gang. He helped her break the gang down, but was still left without his answers. He managed to eventually tap into a military radio frequency and kept notes of everything he was hearing. He didn't have an exact location of where the island was, but he found out that the military had fashioned a small army of those suits. He couldn't take any immediate action, but what he was able to do was start preparing for the inevitable. Every illegal weapons dealer he busted was forced to hand his weapons over to The Night Watcher in order to avoid having to deal with the police; an offer that most of the dealers accepted.

With his own personal armory prepared in his basement (which operated as his own personal Batcave), he decided that all he could do was wait for the inevitable. Instead of becoming idol and just waiting for something to happen, he continued to watch the streets at night. He knew that there were others like him, both wearing a mask and not wearing a mask. Conner knew that he would have to find them, he knew that he was going to need to assemble a team in order to fight these suits that were bound to get stolen at some point. After talking it over with Anarchy, the two decided that they needed to openly search for gifted people in order to put together that life saving team, the fate of the city depended on it. Conner's biggest fear was that Washington wasn't the sole target, but the world as we know it.

Mission #0
Robbery at the First National Bank
Players Required: 2-4

Four vans have been spotted outside of the First National Bank. Twelve targets have been spotted, they are heavily armed and dangerous. They have been seen with a large bag that we expect to contain some sort of drilling mechanism in order to get into the vault. We don't have any confirmation about hostages or the state that they are in. There are two escape doors; one near the back of the building, and one at the side. The bank has multiple floors, and it is quite possible that there's access to the roof. Extreme caution is needed for this one.

Question, is there any way you can release a version of the text without the line through it? It's almost impossible to read on mobile @Seductress

Refresh and try again, I didn't strike it through. I posted and then went to check to make sure none of my code broke, and then for some reason there was a strike through. I'm pretty sure I fixed it, so let me know if it's fixed for you.

It's good now. Thanks!

So I don't know how to do all that fancy design stuff lol. So mine will be pretty simple looking

No worries! Like I said, you can do it any way that you'd like to.

Kasai Victoriano

―
Weapon Expert
Regeneration
Expert Street Fighter

Kasai had always had it all. Her father is the most feared monster within the city, everybody knew him and all feared her as they did him. He chosen her to be his heir among her many brothers, a slight jealous among them, but most loving her as much as she loved them. She was taught how to fight at a young age, enrolled in many different kinds of classes to learn as many different styles as possible. When Kasai was older, she joined in street fights, learning from the old street veterans in their ways of trickery durning combat.

Later on, the weapons came into play. The simplest of pistols were shot with a pristine that matched any hitman, knives could be throw from hundreds of yards away and never traced back to her, bombs crafted out of everything and anything as she honed a love for weapons and all the things she could do.

Her regeneration was a surprise to all, after a sparring match that accidentally turned deadly, her oldest brother had plunged a switchblade straight through her hand. They pulled it out with ease as Kasai had a high level of pain tolerance and within moment the wound had healed with a mark.

It's a long story of her betrayal, Orion, her most beloved brother had tricked her from her status as heir and losing her father's trust. She left the family business without a word, vowing to herself that one day she would make them all crumple underneath her one way or another.

Leon Blake

Azure Ghost

Multiplayer | Singleplayer

Age 30 | Male

6'0" | 165 lbs.

Master Detective | Martial Artist

Leon Blake started out as most people in this world do: hopeful. As a child, he had all the aspirations most children often have; to be a spaceman, a time traveler, or a superhero. He wasn't fully aware that his latter aspiration would ever come to fruition, but then who truly knew where they would be at the young age of five? Born to parents Peter and Marissa Blake, a police officer for the MPD and a baker, respectively, Leon's life was rather average. There was, of course, the lingering tension that was brought on by his father's occupation as a police officer, but Mr. Blake managed to come home to his family every night, and that was all they could ask for. The old man was even fortunate enough to land himself a promotion after scoring a particularly critical drug bust.

However, that would later prove to be his downfall. One a particularly rainy night, Mr. and Mrs. Blake had decided to leave young Leon with a baby sitter so they could have that proper date night Peter had been promising for what seemed like an eternity ago. It was during their evening outing that the happy couple were approached by a shady figure--one of the associates of the men Mr. Blake had carted off to jail. Being gunned down on a dirty DC sidewalk was always a possibility in Mr. Blake's mind; he had never expected his wife to join him there, however. Such a tragedy, of course, left young Leon without a family to take care of him, and thus the young boy was sent off to one of the city's orphanages.

Life was rough in his new demesne, as the older kids would often bully Leon whilst the caretakers merely shrugged off such behavior as "boys being boys" (in other words, it wasn't worth their notice). Leon hated his life, hoping and praying for a way out. Miraculously, his prayers were answered in the form of one Harold Carver, who sought to adopt the young boy. After a lengthy process, the adoption was finalized, and Leon had a new home with the rather esoteric Carver. It didn't take long, however, for Carver's true intentions to come about. "Heard about your folks, son. I'm real broken up for you. But are you just gonna go through life whimperin' about it, or would like me to show you the means to take your power back?" From this, a spark of determination Leon never knew he had flared up. "What do you mean?"

For years, Carver trained young Leon in all sorts of techniques; investigation, martial arts, tracking, escape artistry, espionage, etc. In time, Leon had been molded into a lethal machine. What he was unaware of, however, was Carver's intentions to use him as a soldier of his own making, to fight a "holy crusade" against the wickedness of the world. Faced with an ultimatum--to take the life of a criminal, or be abandoned--Leon found himself unwilling to do that which was expected of him, and so Carver pushed him away, back to the mean streets of Washington D.C.

From here, Leon decided to make his own way, doing odd jobs to scrape enough cash together for a room to stay in while he sought something more permanent. He decided he'd try his hand at working the force, like his father did. He graduated the academy with high marks, and found fulfillment in the job for some time. However, after only four years of working the beat, he found himself becoming disillusioned with wearing the badge, noticing ever more-presently the corruption that seemed to fester all around him, even within his fellow officers; and after witnessing his partner accept a bribe from a local drug dealer, he knew it was time for him to go.

From there, he decided to try his hand at becoming a photographer for the newspaper, hoping to put his considerable skills to good use. The work was steady, if not monotonous, and he found little enjoyment in taking shots of political figures to plaster into the paper's next issue. However, his true calling unearthed itself after witnessing a man attempting to rape a woman in a dark alley one night as he was heading home from the bar. His blood boiling from years of pent up rage, he quickly lunged at the man, prying him off of his would-be victim and beating him to a pulp. His hands shaking, he felt a sudden relief wash over him, as if he now knew what would give his life purpose.

And thus, the Azure Ghost was born, bringing justice to an unjust city.

Name: Kallen Hale "Transfer"
Character Type: Single Player, Multiplayer
Age: 27
Height: 5' 11
Weight: 160
Appearance 1573435506582.jpg

Backstory: A normal, stereotypical birth. No special moon, no leap year, nothing that could've influenced his potential for power. No terrible abuse in his childhood to cause such pain that a power was developed in self defense. No strange experiment that gave him a mutated status. Two normal parents, one a surgeon and the other a stay at home mom.His only hope for powers was a miracle.

Instead of a miracle, he received a terrible punishment. Instead of a gift, he received a curse.

The sky over DC was clear, not a typical sky for tragedy. Kallen found himself riding his bike down to the local gas station; they were like a flock of ravens coming to consume roadkill. Five hooded men swarmed his bike, knocked him clean out, and drug him back to their lair.

When he came to, he was strapped down ti a table as they began to beat him. It was too much until it wasnt-all the pain miraculously began to shift to his right hand. Every lash they left, it seemed to melt into his skin before reappearing on his hand.

That's when the Night Watcher arrived and took out all the criminals-it was a scene straight out of a comic book. Soon enough, the two escaped the drug lair, and the Night Watcher revealed that he had been watching long enough to see the odd pain transferral. He offered Kallen a spot in his team a few days after, asking that Kallen helped others and practiced his powers until he got better. Thus, Transferral was born....

Age: 35 | Height: 6'7 | Weight: 1000 lbs

Mechanical Body | Technomancy

Solomon never achieved much during his thirty five years of living. He did well enough in school but lacked any ambition to go further. After graduating from high school, he couldn't go to college due to his family's impoverished income. So Instead he decided to dedicate his life to saving and helping the populace by putting his life on the line as a firefighter. After five months of training at the fire academy, a then nineteen year old Solomon was officially deployed as an active fireman. From then on, for sixteen years he protected DC from the destructive aftermath that both heroes and villains caused in the wake of their never ending battles. Whenever a villain blew up a building, or a hero was a bit too reckless with their powers during battle, he and the others answering the call of duty were there to put out the fires.

But one day, everything changed. It started out like any other day. He was responding to an emergency downtown. A great battle between metahumans happened. The heroes won, but the city bank they fought in was destroyed in the process. He and his fellow operators began digging through the rubble for survivors. Unbeknownst to them, someone did survive, but it wasn't a civilian. Before he could react, a villain possessing pyrokinetic abilities burst out of the rubble and sent out a stream of unnaturally hot fire. The fire easily melted through their heat protective suits. The closest men were reduced to ash instantly while the others screamed as their suits become liquid and melted into their bodies like napalm. Horrified, Solomon attempted to run away but was stopped when a ball of fire hit him in the back and encased him in ungodly flames. The metahuman ran off, leaving a screaming Solomon to roast to death. When the paramedics arrived a few minutes later, they wheeled away what was left of the team's bodies. Later on, when the reports came in and they listed off the names of the victims found at the site, they realized that one of the body's was missing from the crime scene... Solomon

Nellie King

1573463521105.jpeg

Iron Head

Multiplayer | Single Player

Age: 24 | Height: 5'7" | Weight: (Without Suit) 155 lbs, (With Suit) 220 lbs

Hemokinesis
Abilities: Nellie has the ability to manipulate and produce blood. This only applies to her own blood, as her system works on a level of recognition and can only react to her own DNA. Once she uses a certain amount of blood for attack or defense, it cannot return to her body; luckily, her modified genetic makeup can survive the backlash, as her body is constantly creating an excess of the life substance.

Which leads into her ultimate downfall: She cannot survive without her armor. It is a Depressurized Suit, which monitors Nellie's blood level and expels the excess from her system once it's too high. The extra blood is stored in the chamber vials on her back, which release vaporized clouds once they've reached full capacity. If Nellie's suit is removed for longer than 36 hours, the excess will start exiting from her eyes, nose, mouth and ears, causing her excruciating pain.

Strengths

  • Numbed Nerves: Years of grueling experimentation and disregard for the administration of anesthesia into her system resulted in an inhuman tolerance to pain. Nellie can indeed feel physical touches, but the intensity is dulled unless she willing pumps more blood into the area, riveting her nerves from their slumber.
  • Academic: Nellie was and always will be a Bio-Engineer and Geneticist at heart. An academic. She filters plenty of her intelligence into combat, specifically when it comes to understanding the extensions of her abilities. She has much to learn, however.
  • Brute Strength: By no means does Nellie have superhuman strength. However, she is far stronger than the average woman, having spent years training her body and adapting to the overwhelming weight of her Depressurized Suit.

Weaknesses
  • Stealth/Agility: Nellie's suit is incredible heavy and clunky, thus giving away her position long before she's within melee reach. There is also the fact that the vials on her back release vaporized blood with a low hiss, also shadowing whatever stealth she's trying to achieve. It's all fruitless on her part.
  • Moral Conflict: Her life purpose has the woman split straight down the middle. On the one hand, she now lives for one thing and one thing only--revenge. She will kill Dr. Roland no matter what and that means killing a few people along the way... then so be it. And yet, at the same time, she struggles to let go of her past life, including the big heart beating away in her chest. To this day, she cannot bring herself to kill innocent women nor children, which leads to potentially hindering herself in the middle of battle or making a decision.
  • Overly Protective: Nellie does her best to remain emotionally distant from everyone. In the rare and defeated situation that someone manages to weasel into her heart, she becomes deeply protective of them. To a fault. And her judgement becomes clouded with bias.

The six vials protruding from her back and adhered to the Depressurized Suit.

Bio: The Kings lived up well to their name. Growing up behind the safe gated confines of an upperclass community, Nellie was expected to submerge herself into a plush future. However, she was born with an internal fire, an unquenchable thirst for knowledge. Rather than living freely off the Kings wealth, she wished to apply her efforts into her studies, specifically in Bio-engineering and Genetics.

Of course, the fact that she had a crippling case of Anemia, one that could very well take her life at any given day. No matter the King wealth, there was no cure available.

So Nellie set her sights on finding a cure.

Years passed and she excelled wonderfully, earning her Masters at the age of 22 and joining a well-revered genetics research facility called North Star Labs (NSL). While she performed her duties during shift hours (mostly designing and construction bots fit for medical procedures) she took advantage of the tools and machinery available to conduct her own experiments off the clock. Months of grueling and mind-numbing hard work led to the creation of a prototype Depressurized Suit. Two more months and she was on the verge of a genetic breakthrough.

Foolish and brimming with a desperate hope, Nellie performed test trials on herself. Minutes after introducing the triggering agent to her system... nothing happened. Then more minutes passed and she felt a horrid migraine. Then nausea. Then pain all over. And finally, blood spilling from her orifices. Nellie fainted from the pain and woke up held captive by her fellow coworkers, who studied her like a fascinating specimen. Led by the head of NSL, Dr. Eli Roland, experiment after experiment was done on her, each growing more inhuman than the last, until Nellie's abilities were awakened in the middle of someone's hand invading her abdominal cavity. She blacked out, then woke up to a lab full of dead bodies, all of them slashed and hacked to pieces. Except for Dr. Roland.

Terrified, Nellie stole the Depressurized Suit and fled. The miasma in her mind worsened by the hour until she developed the persona Iron Head, hell bent on hunting down Dr. Roland. However, the man is elusive and nearly impossible to reach with his connections standing as a brick wall in the way. Nellie put her energy into breaking down those very walls and now has suspicions that NSL is somehow connected to the sudden appearance of battle suits wreaking havoc on the city. The bare bone designs were simply too similar to be a coincidence.

Because of this, Iron Head has (begrudgingly) reached out to the Night Watcher and his band of heroes in hopes of bulldozing her way straight into Dr. Roland's office.

"You can't run forever..."

Super Villain | Electricity | Air Manipulation

Kyle Egarton and his brother were the stereotypical bullies in high school. As Kyle was going into his second year of high school, his brother was repeating his first year for the sixth time. Kyle was always the brains of the family, while his brother was the brawn. They lived in a trailer park, and were almost too poor to even afford to eat.
All of that changed when the two of them found an ad in the papers the claimed a German scientist was looking for laboratory assistants for his experiments. He claimed he would be paying at least six times more than minimum wage, plus added benefits. Kyle's benefits just so happened to be having his genetics unzipped and rewritten using a number of electrical shocks. Ever since, he became Surge, and he had never been happier with his life. In exchange to keep getting good money, Kyle and his brother became the doctor's little errand boys. In theory, they could be the perfect killing machines. Together, they're nearly unstoppable. Alone, formidable against any hero thrown at them.

Missions | Single Player | Multiplayer
Age 26 | Male

The doctor always considered Sid to be a bit biblical in his own right. With how much the young man liked to eat and stuff his face, it gave the good doctor an idea. While Sid's younger brother had his genetic makeup experimented on randomly, Sid was written a specific code to fit his personality. The mutations caused him to hit a growth spurt, it slowed his metabolism and caused everything he ate to be processed into muscle, not fat. He's injected with a daily vial of serum to keep his body from expanding so much that the muscles around his bones don't crush his skeletal system. He's very protective over his brother, and any mistreatment of Kyle will cause anyone and everyone to feel Sid Egarton's full and complete wrath. Hell hath no fury like a glutton scorned.

@Seductress Awesome intro! An explosive beginning, indeed!

So if I wanted to write an intro for Iron Head into this situation, could she show up as support for Night Watcher? I imagine she'd be there since Sadist and Surge seem to have underwent genetic mutation, and anything relating to would make Iron Head's blood boil (pun somewhat intended).

Can't wait to see Kallen in action! If it helps, Iron Head will likely think that she won't be much help against Surge, mostly because blood contains water and his attacks could probably cleave through her own, or course through them. Of course, that's if you're planning to add Kallen to that fight, but if you're thinking more of the hospital, then please disregard this bit lmao!

I think that's actually why I got so excited that Iron Head decided to go up against Surge. It's all so excited. I can't wait to see what you decide to do with Kallen!
