    Deputy Headmistress

Welcome to a Harry Potter roleplay! This is a post-books, Original Character based Harry Potter Roleplay forum. I really prefer Intermediate to Advanced Roleplay, and while I don't have high standards, I encourage grammatical and spelling accuracy, well thought out opinions and characters, and literacy. Furthermore, I prefer this to be an 18+ roleplay, so anyone who doesn't want to see cursing, gore or possibly explicit content (depending on the roleplayers) or anything of that sort, don't join. Continuing on with the previous point, if you're here to fulfill a wizard fetish and throw smut around, I'll be extremely pissed, please, like I said before, keep your characters and literacy creative enough to flow with the story.

This roleplay takes place in modern-day, the year 2016. There are several options for those of you that are interested, whether it be playing as a ghost of Hogwarts, or working in a shop and marching to your own drum. I REALLY encourage creativity, and I can't wait to integrate your characters within the roleplay! This will follow the book canon, but disregard the epilogue in regards to the second generation children to make the roleplaying easier. In addition I will have not accepted any element of Cursed Child into the rp, or the schools announced on Pottermore as part of the lead up to Fantastic Beasts. All characters in this rp are original characters - No canons accepted.

No God-Modding, god-modding is the act of determining another character's actions for them without their permission (i.e the clothes they are wearing, whether or not a spell hit them, or even simply if they took your character's offered hand). Please ask the player before you choose to move their characters around willy-nilly. God-Modding is not tolerated. You can play multiple side characters to flow your story, however, don't make the side characters control other OC characters.

The Plot Goes On, If you vanish with no word, leaving behind threads and plots unattended, you give the players involved the right to determine how or what happens to the plot. If and when you return, you can choose to re-plot things and discuss.

Roleplay happens in real time. That's right. We are in present-day, and the forum progresses in realtime. That being said, focus more on the month than the exact day. Try to avoid being in two places at the same time on the same day. Unfortunately, Time Turners were destroyed and there is zero reason for your character to have one. With regards to dating your threads, we don't want to overly limit your play. However, for the sake of the storylines throughout the roleplay, threads should be set within the current month or the month immediately following.

Dark Wizards. Players who choose to play Dark Wizards, be warned. You are responsible for covering for your character's trail of evidence so that they manage to escape detection by officials in law enforcement. If you don't cover your tracks, we will side with the people trying to catch you. These apps also receive a lot of scrutiny, and cannot be your first character. Please understand that if I turn your Dark Wizard down, it's because I scrutinize and limit them severely.

Special Abilities But what if you want something that's a bit unique? What if you want your character to be a druid from the peaks of Mount Olympus brought to bring light and sunshine and beauty? In a word - No.

I do, however, have various Harry Potter related Abilities to peak through if they interest you. However, due to the rareness of such abilities, I have this fancy Master-list (down below), listing all the limitations within the rp. Furthermore, we only allow members to have one special ability per character, and that if a second, learned ability is to be asked for, I will monitor it very carefully.

    Abilities

Seers A seer is a gifted wizard or witch who has the ability to see the future with their Inner Eye. Seers predict prophecies, which are then recorded and stored in the Hall of Prophecy in the Ministry of Magic’s Department of Mysteries. True Seers are extremely rare. It is thought that seeing into the future is incredibly difficult because of the complexity of every single action and consequence. Likewise, Centaurs are Seers, but trained in their own brand of Divination.

Of particular interest are Naming Seers, a wizarding occupation undertaken by wizards with the ability to see the future. Naming Seers can predict a newborn child’s future, and suggest an appropriate name. However, in modern times, the use of a Naming Seer is very rare, as many parents dislike hearing hints about a child’s future.

Legilimency/Occlumency Legilimency is the act of magically navigating through the many layers of a person’s mind and correctly interpreting one’s findings. A person practicing this art is known as a Legilimens. Do not confuse this with mind-reading, most practitioners feel such a term is a ‘naive’ description. An example of a famous Legilimens is the Hogwarts Sorting Hat. This act can be performed nonverbally and wandlessly by the most talented, however, less talented practitioners must rely on the wand and incantation ‘Legilimens’. It is easier, furthermore, to perform Legilimency when the target and practitioners eyes meet.

Those who can perform Legilimency can tell if a person is lying, as well as delve into their thoughts, emotions, and memories. Again, the most talented at such an art can even go as far as influencing a mind they invade, such as Voldemort sending Harry visions, and even later temporarily possessing him. Such acts, for the purpose of the game, however, will be STRICTLY moderated, and again, realism is highly emphasized. Someone to have that sort of skill must have been practicing for A LONG TIME. Voldemort was in his seventies by the time he was able to perform such a skill, not to mention the uniqueness of his access to Harry’s mind.

On the flip side, Occlumency is the act of magically closing one’s mind against Legilimency. It can prevent a Legilimens from accessing one’s thoughts and feelings, or influencing them. A practioner of such a talent is an Occlumens. The simplest method is to clear one’s mind and ‘make it blank’. More advanced Occlumens suppress thoughts, emotions, and memories that contradict whatever an Occlumens wishes a Legilimens believes, and thus, Occlumency is not obviously being used. It requires a great deal of will-power, and a high-degree of emotional and mental discipline. It is also a method to resisting the influence of Veritaserum. They can also guard against possession.

Furthermore, neither of these are skills taught at Hogwarts, and will likely have to be acquired from outside sources. For a student to learn Legilimency or Occlumency in the rp, they must be at least 15, will not master the skill until they leave Hogwarts, and must find a mentor to teach them in-character who also possesses the skill. For adult characters (i.e Teachers) applying with the skill, we need to see a strong use of it in your profile, justified by your character's history.

Animagi can only take the form of ONE specific animal, the shape not chosen by the wizard, but determined by their personality and inner traits. The animagus form is not restrained by the lifespan limit of the creature that they otherwise might transform into. Animagi bear identifying marks on their animal forms that is caused by their human body, such as dental structure, or acquired traits like glasses. Animagus learn a charm which they can apply to their clothing to ensure their clothes survive the transformation.

Animagi can still think like humans when transformed, however, their feelings are less complex. They have the ability to communicate with normal animals. Animagi are also safe from werewolves while in their animagus form. Furthermore, the process is not taught at Hogwarts, and will likely have to be acquired from outside sources. For a student to learn to become an Animagus in roleplay, they must be at least 16, and will not master the skill until they leave Hogwarts. They must find a mentor to teach them in-character who also possesses the skill. For adult characters applying with the skill, we need to see a strong use of it in your profile, justified by your character's history.

Metamorphmagi This is a witch or wizard with the ability to change his or her physical appearance at will, rather than requiring a Polyjuice Potion or spell like the rest of the Wizarding world. This ability is extremely rare. They can take a variety of forms, changing sex, age, potentially looking like anyone at all, or even just changing a part of their appearance. They can transform at will. They cannot, however, take on major animal characteristics or shift into an animal.

This is a born skill, not a learned one. The ability presents very early in life. While training is not guaranteed, it takes a bit of concentration to transform. Wands are not required for such a skill. Like other abilities, Metamorphs are affected by their emotional states, and appearances often will reflect how the person feels. Strong emotions such as shock or depression can affect their abilities to the point of having trouble using them at all. For the purposes of the rp, I consider adults more capable of maintaining Metamorphmagi disguises than students, for longer periods of time. Students will not be successful if they try to completely imitate another student using this skill, and most adults will not be able to completely transform, either. Other options include Polyjuice Potion (which is very difficult to make, and has some rare ingredients) or Human Transfiguration (which is unpleasant).

Parselmouths Parseltongue is the language of serpents (and other magical serpent-based creatures such as the Runespoor or Basilisk), and those who can converse with them. An individual who can speak Parseltongue is known as a Parselmouth. It is a very uncommon skill, and is typically hereditary. Nearly all known Parselmouths are descended from Salazar Slytherin.

When spoken, Parseltongue is a hissing sound, similar to that of a snake. Parseltongues can communicate with each other. While it is an inheritable ability, speakers must face a snake-based creature or an object shaped like a snake, though more proficient speakers may be able to speak it at will.

This skill is particularly associated with Dark Wizards, mostly as the majority of famous Parseltongues have been associated with the Dark Arts (Salazar Slytherin, Lord Voldemort, Herpo the Foul). It is extremely unwise for a Parselmouth to tell other members of the wizarding community that they are a Parselmouth because of the suspicion such an admission usually carries with it.

    Hogwarts Code of Conduct (open)

    Hogwarts Code of Conduct
By attending Hogwarts, students agree to follow the school's Code of Conduct, which are rules in place to foster a safe and productive learning environment for everyone at the University. This Code of Conduct is delivered by Owl, with the student's acceptance letter and school supplies list. Serious misconduct can result in a student being referred to first their Head of House, then the Headmaster, and finally the Board of Governors. If a student is expelled, their wand is broken.

Respect. Students are expected to address one another and Hogwarts staff with respect; points may be deducted for excessive rudeness by a staff member or Prefect at any time. Repeat offenders may find themselves referred to a Professor or serving Detention.

Curfew. Students are expected to be within their respective common rooms by curfew. Fourth years and below should be in their dormitories by 8pm. Fifth years and above should be in their dormitories by 9pm. Prefects will patrol the corridors between 8pm until 11pm every night.

School Uniforms. Students are expected to wear the school uniform properly from 9am until 4pm, M-F, while classes are in session; any deviations from the uniform, including the manner in which it is worn, can result in a deduction of house points. Uniforms consist of a shirt, tie, skirt/pants, sweater (optional) and robes, all worn properly; house scarves are popular but not required, and a number of other casual-wear thematic to one's house can be bought but should not be worn in class. Wizarding novice hats are used on some formal occasions, such as the End of Year feast. Girls can wear the pants or the skirt, but the skirt is more common. For a visual of Hogwarts Uniforms and how they are meant to be worn, see here.

Attendance & Participation. Students are expected to attend all classes, and arrive on time, in order to minimize disrupting the learning experience of their classmates. Students are expected to complete their homework in a timely fashion, and to possess all of the elements required by their class in order to participate. Punishment for missing class, homework, or being unprepared to participate (without a note from one's guardian, Head of House, or the Matron) will be determined by the Professor of the class in question.

Property Rights. Students are expected to keep the Hogwarts campus clean; vandalism of any kind is expressly forbidden and sloppiness may result in clean-up duty. Students must also respect the property of other students; theft and tampering are considered serious offences by all Hogwarts staff members. These property rights do not extend to any items which a student brings on campus which is already declared illegal by the Ministry of Magic; such items will be confiscated and the student will be referred to their Head of House for discipline. Professors have the right to confiscate items they suspect may be dangerous or result in vandalism at their own discretion.

Common Rooms. Because of inter-house rivalries, Gryffindor Tower, Ravenclaw Tower, Slytherin Dungeons, and Hufflepuff Basement are off limits to any student not of that house. Violations of this offense are considered severe by all Hogwarts Staff and result in immediate detention.

Conduct. Students are not allowed to drink or smoke on campus; even students who are of age in the Wizarding World should not smuggle these materials into the school. Possession of any such artifacts is a serious offense and anyone caught will be referred to their Head of House. Students are expected to act in a manner which upholds Hogwarts' dignified reputation when they are not in school. Students are asked to use their Common Room as a place to interact; male students and female students should not be in each other's dormitories at any point in time. Sex of any kind is against campus rules; off-campus, student interactions are governed by UK and MOM law, including and especially regarding consent and sexual activity with a minor. Misconduct of this kind will result in the student being referred to their Head of House.

The Forbidden Forest. As the name implies, it is Forbidden to go into the forest without being accompanied by a Hogwarts staff member.

Pets. Students may have one owl and one cat, pygmy puff, toad, or rat; students who choose not to bring two pets are welcome to use the school owls.

Use of Magic. Students are asked to refrain from performing magic upon each other without oversight from a Hogwarts staff member. In addition, students are expected to practice magic appropriate for their year and their age. Professors who catch students dueling each other out of an unsupervised environment, performing magic for purposes other than homework or practice, or attempting dangerous spells which are inappropriate for their current level of experience may deduct house points and/or insist upon detention.

Discipline. For any of the infractions above, a Hogwarts Staff Member, Prefect, or Head Boy/Head Girl may deduct points, assign clean up duty or detention, or refer a student to their Head of House. Prefects may only deduct points within their own houses. Any Head of Houses dealing with repeat infractions from a particular student may refer them to the Headmaster. Detention work varies widely and is often dependent on activities going on at the school at a particular time; it is usually determined by the Professor with whom detention is served.

The Headmaster thanks every student for their cooperation with these guidelines, as they are critical to the overall stability of the school, and help maintain a space where every student's right to learn is protected.
