Of course Dan would have gotten everything organized while the rest of the boys had stood around. But he'd been talking about Etienne's looks for so long before Ryan brought it up, he wouldn't have been entirely surprised if they had ended up never reaching the other team. "Got it," was all he said in reply to the position he was given. He figured he wouldn't fail at it. Even if he did, it was just a game.
Clearly, Etienne didn't think the same of himself. "R-Ryan," came the soft voice of the Gryffindor. "... I'm kind of lost." Etienne looked like the epitome of nervousness. Like he was about to throw up, maybe. In which case, Ryan was really hoping he'd have the sense to turn away.
"Stark, don't worry about it. It's just a game." He pat the half-giant on the back, some awkward attempt at comfort. Though, since he barely knew Etienne, that probably just came off as awkward. Ryan didn't often attempt to comfort giant Gryffindors. What else was he supposed to do, offer him candy when they got back to the castle later? All he had to offer were some words, hardly inspirational ones at that, and which probably did nothing to make his schoolmate feel any less lost. "No one expects you to be some kinda volleyball pro. Just play around and have fun. You'll be fine as long as you keep the ball from hitting the ground." He expected that Etienne could do that. At the very least, Etienne could probably manage to hit the ball. Not hitting it completely out might be an entirely different skill altogether, but he could probably do that with trial and error.
They soon reached the other team, who'd finished setting up the court. The team was a group of students, some of whom Ryan might just be able to dredge up names for if he tried. Hardly the sort of people to feel nervous around. Though Ryan felt that that wouldn't stop Etienne from feeling extremely nervous about this entire ordeal. Ryan felt that the half giant probably would have felt much more at home at something like the pet race.
