1975. A time of struggle for muggles and wizards alike. While the cold war is at its height, the wizarding world is faced with a war of its own. The Daily Prophet has reported nothing but bad news as of late. There have been disappearances, murders, dark marks in the sky, and sightings of strange men in masks. Whispers say this is all the work of the Dark Lord, an enemy so formidable no one dares to speak his name.

A dark cloud hangs over Hogwarts, for even its peace has been disturbed. The promise of a new academic year and its would-be adventures are instead shrouded in unspeakable fear. There are those who come to Hogwarts with dark intentions and even darker magic. No one knows who they are. They stay in the shadows, bearing the faces of old friends or foes, whispering, scheming...

In this age of growing racial prejudice, the well-being of half-breeds and muggle borns hang in the balance.

Hogwarts is no longer safe.
Current Chapter 6: A Solemn Supper

Date: Wednesday, October 8 1975
Time: 6pm
Event: Feast at the Great Hall
Weather: Cloudy

Hogwarts opens its great doors once more, though the students that choose to remain are anything but great in number. If, at the beginning of the school year, the halls were flooded with streams of black robes, it is now reduced to a trickle. And what would customarily be an exited hubbub is now uncomfortably quiet, occasionally permeated by whispers of uncertainty and fear.

Something about Hogwarts has changed. Something more than the Chamber of Secrets being opened then closed once again. Something more than the appointment of the new Headmaster Demetrius Creed, whose very existence seems to be shrouded in mystery. Hogwarts itself seems foreboding somehow. Like some dark and evil spirit has possessed its very walls. For the castle towers now stood frowning upon the encroaching students like it loathes for them to come back. There will be no warm welcome, no semblance of a joyous celebration to be had. There is only the beginnings of an omen.

But even in the darkness, there is hope. The two students who fell victim to the Basilisk are now cured and well, even if the trauma remains with them and will haunt their dreams for some time.

Today, they will be rejoining their classmates who, upon their arrival, are immediately ushered into the Great Hall for supper. There, half the former staff awaits them upon their usual seats at the great table, whilst the other half seems to have been replaced by unknown and unwelcoming new faces. The usual seat of the Headmaster is curiously empty.

Henry Chen
SEVENTH YEAR HUFFLEPUFF
"Shhh!" Henry put a finger to his lips, urging his companions--Lauren included--to be quiet. He had an odd feeling about that noise. It didn't sound like the usual chatter or clamor that younger students would usually make. It sounded like someone was banging against something. There were hushed voices, too, muffled through the walls. The sound was coming from within one of these rooms.

Pushing the slightly ajar door that led to a classroom, Henry gave the rest of his friends a meaningful look, as if to tell them: This could be it, this must be where the portraits are! The room was so dark--the only source of light came from the torches in the hallway--and a heavy air hung about them. The noise stopped almost too abruptly, as if whatever was inside had sensed their coming.

"Lumos," Henry whispered, wand raised.

There, near the teacher's desk, was an occupied portrait: two figures turned to attention like deer caught in the headlights, hair undone and barely dressed. Sir Cadogan, in particular, was not in his usual coat of mail, and upon his knee with her arms wound around his neck sat Damara Dodderidge, looking rather aghast.

"Oh dear!" She cried, quickly pulling away from the man and fixing her dress. "Oh, dear, it's not what it looks like!"

Henry simply stared at them for a second, then two, then he laughed.

But his glee was cut short when the door to the room shut itself closed, trapping him and whoever had followed him inside. Laughter erupted from the other side of the wall. It sounded suspiciously familiar.

Peeves, the Poltergeist.

Elise was suddenly consumed with even more concern for her best friend as she watched him. She was aware, painfully so, of his feelings for Persephone and couldn’t help but think this entire situation was unfair to him. Worriedly, she reached out to pull him into a hug when she observed the expression he wore, her own heart seeming to feel heavy in her chest. She hated that look on anyone – especially Ash. However, she kept herself from doing so, especially since Persephone was around and she was his crush. Biting her lip, Elise briefly glanced over to Persephone before nodding in agreement. In the very least, she would take her best friend to the Hospital Wing and then make sure he was okay.

The Ravenclaw glanced over to Effie at her side with a soft smile. Elise wouldn’t have been able to leave her dear cousin but with Wallace around, she felt much more comfortable in doing so. “I’ll find you later, Effie.” She cooed, glancing over to her older cousin with a fond grin. “Stay with Wallace, I’m sure he will be a big help – you guys can definitely work out the problem behind the portraits!”. With a brief hug, Elise slipped away from her cousin and took a few quick steps away. “I’ll see you both later, Effie, Wallace!” She called out, spinning around to follow after Ash. In her hurry she nearly tripped, a common fault of her clumsiness but she managed to keep herself up as she hurried after her friend to fall into step at his side.

Elise wanted to pull her friend into a hug and after a few steps she reached out, entwining her arm with his though she kept her grip weak. She was, mentally, working out how to best comfort him as a soft smile replaced her concern. “That would have been a good excuse, if it weren’t for the fact we study together.” She mumbled softly, “Are you okay, Ash?”

Effie glanced between Leo and Elliot as they playfully joke amongst themselves about the Head Boy. She couldn’t help a small chuckle escaping from her over Elliot’s candid comment on Alistair’s personality. Then shook her head in disapproval. She didn’t particularly like making fun of others, even if they might be certainly deserving of it. Still Alistair had been rude to her lately so she wasn’t exactly quick to be highly defensive over him. Then Leo’s eyes immediately turned onto her and she froze in place. He had a boyish grin on his face when he spoke and Effie shied away. Almost hiding behind Elise really. “H-hi…” she says timidly with a weak wave. Looking down at her feet she shook her head lightly. “Y-you don’t need to thank me. I uhm...was..” Effie stutters having a hard time formulating the words in her mind. Everything was just starting to come up blank, and she could feel her cheeks flushing due to her nerves and embarrassment. She wasn’t used to talking to boys, or being around them, or anything having to do with them. It’s not something she enjoyed, but Leo didn’t seem threatening. Effie just had to remind herself of that. Taking a deep breath she looks up and gives him an awkward smile. “Just being nice. I’m Effie…” she clarifies for him finally before pausing and once again averting her gaze. “Leo is a nice name…u-uhm it’s nice to meet you.” she says to him seemingly genuine in her words despite looking severely uncomfortable. She glances to Wallace, who seemed to be scowling at Alistair, and thinks of something to say about the situation. Maybe the old man would be more willing to talk to her. A gentle touch had a way with people after all. It’s why she had so many friends!

Then Effie hears a familiar voice, Percy, arriving on the scene. The girl expressing a clear concern for her pen pal and childhood friend Ash, and Effie could feel the air shift around the four of them as the girl passes through. She didn’t understand it though, why Percy would have such an effect on those around her. Ash looked embarrassed, unnaturally so, by Percy’s sudden presence. Which in turn washed out a small twinkle of Elise’s liveliness. These were things that did not go unnoticed by the Hufflepuff, but she didn’t understand it very well. She didn’t know what it was like to have such strong feelings for someone, and part of her wondered if she ever would. Nodding after the hug from her cousin she watched as the two finally left them. Her emerald hues glance up at the boy she had just met, before she slowly inches away from him to stand by her brother in silence. Looking up at him there was the look of concern on her brother’s face as he watched helplessly from afar. It was a look she was familiar with, having seen it when she had to take the stand during her court case. He very much wanted to protect Percy, it was his nature. Had it not been for their father he probably would have gone to much more drastic measures, but maybe that was a good thing? The sound of the man groaning in discontent at his situation was enough to snap him out of her thoughts. There was only a handful left of them now, and part of her had grown tired over the arrangement. She didn’t need the money after all, and neither did her brother. “What should we do with him?” She finally speaks up to the those who remained behind, her best friend Tasha being one of them. Noticing him, she gave him a large smile and a friendly wave.

“Don’t.” Alistair’s tone was irritating at best, and Wallace certainly didn’t like being bossed around or treated like some fucking idiot. Of course he wasn’t going to let the guy go after going through the trouble of catching him to begin with. The boy couldn’t help but roll his eyes in annoyance. He didn’t even acknowledge him really, but chose to address the portrait instead.

“You’re acting mighty suspicious for some old man that doesn’t know anything.” He protests as he digs his nail into the wooden frame. This whole situation was just a drag to him, what the hell did he get wrapped up in now? Honestly, the Slytherin had better things to do. Finding Percy being one of those priorities…. and studying. He wanted to ace the up and coming exams after all. He wanted to be top of his class and prove himself. Next he knew though, Joan was near by projecting her opinion on the situation. The boy blinked looking blankly at the girl before him. “Apparently somebody does.” Wallace tells her flatly, then his eyes look past the dark haired girl noticing Percy with Ash and his family. Bit of a stupid question actually…. He couldn’t help but think to himself as he watches Percy drag Alistair away by his hair. His brows furrowed as they left, an obvious look of concern on his face. He thought about following after them, not to eavesdrop, but to be there for her after they were done; however, his peripherals catch a glimpse of red hair beside him and it forces him to look away. Effie stood next to him now, looking uncomfortable now that their cousin had left as well. He knew Effie wasn’t comfortable being left alone with strangers, especially since the most of them were boys, so he decided to stay with her. Effie came first in any situation. Always.

Ren smiled smally when he felt Ana’s hand on his arm, and began to lead him through the halls. Who knew exactly where his mother was, but it was highly possible that she would be in her assigned classroom of office. Gwendolyn always took her role as teacher seriously, and in a way probably viewed herself as a mother to the students in her class. It was something he liked about his mother, how compassionate she was. It was his favorite thing to see in people. He knew he could face any hardships with kind people by his side. His thoughts wandering off to a certain little red headed girl he called a friend, then her cousin too. “Thank you for helping me miss…” He says as the peruse the many corridors. He quiets for a moment as his thoughts turn onto Elise. She was his assigned aid, so Ren couldn’t help but wonder why he had been seeing less of her lately. It didn’t make him frustrated, in fact he was worried about her. Did something happen he wasn’t made aware of? “Miss Fitzgerald, have you seen Elise lately? Usually she’s the one helping me find my way, not that your anything to complain about, but I haven’t heard from her lately. I guess you could say I am a little worried about her, and figured that since you are Head Girl you might know something I don’t.” He explains to her smoothly. His mannerisms nothing short of that of a gentleman. Ren was always a stickler for formalities.

Henry’s harsh shushing caused Davi’s nose to wrinkle up in discomfort. Plus he didn’t like to be shushed. It was such a granny thing to do. The Gryffindor simply shook his head in mock shame over his best friend’s cautiousness. Seeing a familiar, and charming, redhead Davi waved at Lauren from afar. Then returned his attention on the noises he had been hearing just a moment ago. If they were younger students they definitely would have come out by now, so he wondered what exactly was going on. The sound of whispers was definitely a telling sign, and Davi’s heart raced in excitement! Following after Henry, the hispanic half-blood kept his wand raised prepared for anything. He made a promise to protect Lou and Henry if anything went wrong after all. After Henry lit up the room with a subtle Lumos spell, the boy stared owlishly in surprise at the sight before them. “Whaaaat!? I had no idea!” He shouted in his shock. The idea that portraits still retained their desire to do such things was completely beyond him. His eyes lingering on them as the woman pulls away from Sir Cadogan. "Don't lie! Sir Cadogan is probably a catch in portrait...world?" Davi questions still really confused over what they had just happened across, stil staring back at the two of them in awe. Then his thoughts began to drift onto what other things they might also do, and his face immediately flushed. "Er...never mind." Henry’s laughter was enough to keep Davi from dwelling on the subject any longer, and of course being as infectious as it was, even caused him to chuckle a bit.

The sudden slamming of the door behind them nearly terrified Davi half to death! He actually yelped in fear, then cursed himself for getting jump scared not once but twice in the same day. As a Gryffindor it was almost a sin! Of course after a moment he recognized that laughter, which immediately brought a face to mind. Peeves! “You blasted ghost! Why’d you do that!?” He questions clearly offended over the man’s antics.

Will furrowed his eyebrows when Rory answered, and just like that, it seemed like Will was going to be left to his own devices. He didn't really feel like competing anymore if he didn't have his friend along. The main reason for him doing this at all was because he'd had the opportunity to spend more time with a friend and it seemed like a fun thing to do, but now that Rory had other things to do, Will had no desire to solve any mystery. It wasn't about the prize money for him, but it had been an added bonus. "Oh, okay," he nodded and watched as Rory left. "I'll see you later!" He called out, despite the redhead already much further away from him now.

And just like that, Will was alone.

Well, not completely, it seemed. He turned to see Madam Hooch stalking away, and behind her was a familiar face. Will shared a couple of classes with Deborah, and more than that, he found her more frequently in the library, since that seemed to be the place both of them enjoyed hanging out, usually by themselves. Will liked to say that they were often 'alone together' while in the library, though he'd never say that out loud.

He was confused as to why she looked so upset, till he noticed her gaze on the floor. Shoving his hands into his pockets, he walked over, thinking maybe she needed some help. And as he got closer, he realised that she definitely needed it. Not that he didn't think she was more than capable of handling this slimy situation on her own, but he wouldn't leave a friend to fend for themselves.

"What happened here?" He asked her curiously, whipping his wand out and making it clear that he intended to help her clean up the mess.

The laughter that could be heard was definitely creepy, but all Lou could notice was that it was definitely coming from somewhere, and she intended to find out what. Davi seemed to think it could have been a couple of first years but Lou wasn't so sure.

"Shhh!" She hissed, almost at the same time as Henry when more voices filled the air. She was more focused on finding the source of the laughter that Lou didn't even bother to look around and see who else had joined them. Right now, it wasn't the competition or winning it that was on Lou's mind. Something else was at play, and she wanted to find out what that was.

Lou shuffled into the classroom behind Henry before moving to stand beside him and glance around, despite there being no light in the room. It was only when the tip of Henry's wand was illuminated did Lou see what was going on in a portrait. "Oh," she gasped slightly, a little taken aback. "Oh, well that's... unexpected." The entire situation was definitely hilarious, which was further proved by Henry's burst of laughter, and as much as Lou wished she could join in, she was also incredibly curious about a lot of other things. She didn't even think that was possible with portraits.

Lou stifled a laugh at Davi's comment of Sir Cadogan but her attention was immediately turned on to Peeves as he showed up behind them. "What the hell is happening here?" Clearly she was asking nobody in particular -- except maybe Peeves -- since she doubted anyone knew the answer.

Morrigan Quinn

Morrigan found her impatience growing very much apparent with the sudden appearance of the slug Rory Thomson and his snatching Juniper away from her. Not the time for it—either. It was not safe, and that feverish fear that Morrigan felt still felt almost smothering—even so far from the Chamber now.

Standing not too far away but tucked behind a corner. The witch felt her face almost grow green with envy and temper flaring. Morrigan—was very much the jealous type, and if the Basilisk didn’t work quickly… She’d be more than happy to teach the redhead rat a lesson… Even if his usefulness hadn’t yet expired.

Thinking about her behaviour—Morrigan mentally scolded herself. It was foolish to let her weaknesses and emotions for Juniper get the better of her. As much as the other scare, she suffered some time before—in the Chamber of Secrets with Persephone Gaunt.

Managing to lull her mind back to the many tasks at hand she wondered—how of earth they were could get the bloody locket they were given for the sake of their cause from the Dark Lord, himself. A light groan of frustration seemed to leave the young adult’s lips, as she swiped her fingers effortlessly through her short black hair. Hating the mere thought of dealing with Gaunt twice in one day—but maybe, she could have her own fun with the girl once more.

Looking out around the corner Morrigan watched Juniper and Rory for a short moment, then decided it was best she got that locket back. So, off she went on the hunt for Persephone Gaunt once more. Hand-tucked comfortably around her wand, moving downstairs remembering she saw the girl’s shadow sometime after their leaving.

Casually finding herself at the bottom of the staircase, the girl cooly wandered over towards the ruckus. "Right, any of you seen Gaunt? Found something of hers and would like to return it." Morrigan said almost in a bored tone her gaze flicking through the crowd and landing on Effie for almost a moment-- the little snitch that ratted her out detention day. A moment of impatience passed through her once more as she watched all the conversations and interactions going on at once, which is where she decided to just make her way through the crowd. Hopefully, she hadn't got too far ahead.

"Bunch of idiots holding up the halls." She growled moving away to a quiet part of the hallway largely filled with classrooms and empty janitor closets.

Piper And Pedro

Pedro looked toward the sweet Hufflepuff with a light smile and gaze of amusement. She was so honest and loving towards the creatures before them. Before now, their interactions had been to a bare minimum even though sharing the same club-- their passions towards Mythical Creatures was somewhat the same, thus they spot about the idiotic puffball and kitten playing before them.

“I found him in my room again this morning, have to admit… I don’t really like being woken up with a tongue in my nose.” Pedro laughed in a nervous and embarrassed impulse overtook him. Scratching the back of his silver locks, her watched his more feral counterpart (Megs the ginger fiend) play with her buddy that was no more the size of a ball of wool. “I’m glad she doesn’t test you, Piper. Megs can be a little feral at times, most of all when she’s playing.” He admitted showing her an arm littered with multiple scratches and bite marks.

Piper released a small laugh before lifting her own hands showing him the scratches and pinkened flesh from small burns. “I promise it isn’t a problem for me,” She said in amusement. Only after she’d shown him did she think of all the question her hands may gain given she only had a puffskein as a bet.

“I um...I like hanging out with other creature’s too…” She said nervously, tucking her hands back beneath her legs and ducking her head as her cheeks stained with colour, her pale strands doing nothing to hide the evidence.

Pedro couldn’t help but notice the deepened colour to her cheeks, and the resulting heat the built up behind his own. Orbs of grey blue looked at the girl intently: making himself fully aware of every word that left her soft pink lips. “What other creatures do you find yourself in company with often?” He asked in a mildly interested tone of voice, offering a slightly cocked brow.

Stepping back to the bench, he settled down into the cool stone. Patting the empty place beside him as if to offering Piper it’s remaining space.

With some shyness, Piper got to her feet and slowly sat down beside him on the bench. Debbie likely wouldn’t be pleased if she accidentally spilled her secret, or Lauren for that matter, they would both be dragged down with her if she got into trouble…Nevertheless, the idea of speaking about magical creatures was too good to give up.

“It would be easier to answer a question of which creatures I don’t find myself with,” She said with a light laugh.

“What is a magical creature you wouldn’t want to find yourself with then?” Pedro asked with a light chuckle escaping his lips, before resting back into the bench a little more out of comfort. His hands tucked into his jeans pockets offering a cooler vibe from the boy.

Piper released a thoughtful hum, her head tilted slightly. “A basilisk...you know...since one look into their eyes can kill you, but then again… to see the rest of it would be amazing.”

She gave him a small almost embarrassed smile. “I guess that doesn’t really answer your question though does it?” She murmured before looking up towards the sky. “I think...I would love to see every magical creature no matter how dangerous or different they are,” She murmured decidedly, dropping her gaze back down as Nibbles suddenly attempted to hide himself in her shoe.

Pedro couldn’t help but smile at the girl’s answer, lowering his gaze to the Puffskien trying to get into her shoe. “I suppose it does actually answer the question,” he admitted watching Megs run up to him, and pounce happily onto his lap. Purring lovingly and rubbing her tail against his nose, causing a sneeze to violently leave his lips. Which made the ginger kitten eye Pedro with a look of disgust like he’d disturbed her, before she meowed at Piper. Paw pushing at the girl’s leg.

Piper giggled gently scratching Megs beneath the chin, she adored the little fuzz ball and her strange little personality. “Careful Pedro…” Piper said in an almost playful tone as she peeked over at him. “Nibbles is still around and your nose has no protection,” She said with a giggle, reaching down to retrieve said Puffskein.

Though what was peculiar was the fact he kept trying to hide, which was very unlike him and she was quite sure it wasn’t because of Megs.

“Something has him uneasy at the moment though… That’s not like him.” Pedro spoke up pointing out that present response with Nibbles, before Megs jumped off their lap and snuggled up to the sacred creature. The boy looked around wondering what could have set the uneasiness in the little animal.

“You’re right,” She murmured, lightly petting the top of Meg’s head as she snuggled against the fuzz ball hiding beneath her shirt. “Maybe he’s hungry…” She suggested sounding doubtful. “Would you…” She shifted, her cheeks turning a bright shade of red as she ducked her head. “Wouldyouliketocome?” She said in an embarrassed rush the words all merging together.

“Sure,” Pedro only could smile with the building warmth behind his cheeks. He couldn’t help but feel a little smitten with the sweetness the girl had. “Maybe we could go to Hogsmeade get him something special?” He suggested: knowing that the castle was too busy for his liking at the time.

After all, so many were looking for the missing portraits and posting wagers against who could find them.

Piper was pleasantly surprised when he agreed, having been expecting a different answer. “Oh that’s a wonderful idea!” She said brightly, jumping to her feet in her excitement, her hand flying up to catch the puffskein before he went flying from her grasp.

She released a awkward laugh, looking over at him. “Sorry, it was just a really good idea. Anyway’s we should leave now!" She said happily. She lifted Nibbles up to her shoulder, letting him hide himself in her hair before lifting Meg’s so she could enjoy some cuddle’s. “Are you going to bring her?” She asked curiously.

“I think I might actually,” Pedro said watching the kitten act flirtatiously to the new friend she had made.

Piper offered him one last smile happy to keep the kitten in her grasp for now as she began walking, making it all to clear this hadn’t been the first time she’d snuck from the castle. To excited for her not-really-a-date date. It was just for Nibbles after all.

Ash Caster

Ash wasn't too surprised when the found of feet followed after him, if anything it was just a relief to know Elise was still there. He couldn't remember a time when he didn't have his best friend to help him through everything, when he hadn't been there for her...They'd always just been there for each other.

Although he was still painfully humiliated, it didn't change the fact that he enjoyed her company and likely always would. He lifted his hand, resting it lightly against the slender arm threaded through his.

He ducked his head, messy raven strands falling into his face. "You're far to clever even for a good lie," He said quietly, offering her a small smile. "It was really just for everyone else..." He mumbled. His cheeks headed all over again, his throat suddenly thick with emotions and his eyes stinging.

"I've never...never been so embarrassed Elise..." He whispered, flicking his glance over his shoulder in the direction they'd come. "It was bad enough with all those people but...For Percy to see...."

He released a low moan of distress, lifting his palm to press against his eyes. "This on top of the Mandrakes...I'm never going to live this down," He said shakily. He pressed his thumb and knuckles to his eyes as tears threatened, the last thing he needed to do was cry.

A Chase for Clues
- A GM POST -

  「 Mischief Managed 」John Williams
When yet another student threatened to stow the man in a secluded area of the castle until he confesses, the portrait's face crumbled and he looked almost exasperated, if portraits could be exasperated. Apparently it wasn't too hard to squeeze the truth out of him now that they had him in their grip--literally--despite his prior hesitations.

"Well, alright! They told me never to speak a word of it. Never. But I would rather go against my word than be locked away in a room!" There was an undercurrent of fear in his voice, like that of a man traumatized. "If you head to the dungeons, you will find them there. Gambling. Somewhere in one of those rooms. Don't tell them I told you so! And mind you, I have never been part of their games. So if you must tell Dumbledore about this, leave my name out of it!"

Some of the students looked briefly triumphant, until it dawned upon them that there were at least twenty other people in the hallway. Twenty other people who had heard the same thing they did. Twenty other people to share the prize money with.

Rory Thomson
SEVENTH YEAR RAVENCLAW
"Where are those accusations coming from? It's just a question. There's no need to get defensive," Rory replied casually, though the shoving initially irked him. But he was a master of his own emotions, and his annoyance dissipated as soon as it appeared. He had something to accomplish, after all, and Juniper's reaction was very interesting. If it had been nothing--truly nothing--she would not have reacted in the way she had.

"Hmm, I don't think I believe that. Who is this important person you speak of? I need to make sure, you see. It's an important artifact, after all. You understand."

Briefly, Rory looked out the window, sensing that something was looking at him through it. This proved to be a mistake, for he saw something rather frightening on its reflection. A snake, but a hundred times more terrible.

He had never been so frightened in his entire life until now. He could just sense that it--whatever it was--wanted to kill him.

That was the last thought that passed through his mind before everything went black.

She was honestly in no mood to deal with the curious mind of Rory Thomson who didn't know how to keep his nose out of others business. "My personal affairs are really none of your business Rory," She said with a roll of her eye's.

She was just preparing to deal with this situation, when suddenly the red head was going rigid, a look of terror freezing on his face, not an expression she'd seen there before. She had to resist the urge to turn and see what it was, but...she already knew and it wasn't something she wished to suffer through...although she wouldn't be a target.

Ignoring the irrational racing of her heart she lifted her hand to wave it in his face, to see. He wasn't dead, that much was obvious, so no direct eye contact was made...She sighed to herself in disappointment before smirking slightly to herself, pressing a finger to his forehead and giving a shove. A small laugh left he went tumbling to the ground, stiff and un-moving.

She knelt beside him, lightly petting his shoulder. "This seems fitting for all those times you buried your nose where it wasn't wanted," She murmured, smirking. "Shame, I was hoping I'd get to see what really happen's when you meet it's gaze," She mused as she got to her feet, looking down at him without pity. Without a backwards glance, Juniper walked away from the petrified student, almost wanting to hum to herself.

Jasper gave Joan an amused look when a familiar voice sounded from his other side. With a little huff he glanced towards the pair, his friend Tasha and his twin clinging to his back like a monkey. "Well, well, well look at you Cyrus, you've caught yourself a rare Wolfe. I would say it was the other way around, Tash, buuuuut I try not to lie," He teased.

Jasper place a hand over his heart with a look of mock hurt. "Oh Tash, my feeling's, I'm clearly as light as a feather, I mean, how can I not look and feel like an old man and not weight the same?" He said with a laugh, ruffling up Cyrus hair. "Beside's you can help me, we all know how much Rus hate's sharing," He teased.

He turned his attention back to Joan as the portrait finished speaking. "Heeyyyy we stood here being irritating, I'd say that was extremely helpful." He shifted himself against the wall slightly. "What a very anti-climatic ending, just a bunch of gambling portraits."

Having told them everything they needed to hear, Wallace rounded the corner once again and put the picture frame back on the wall where it belonged. He ushered a quick apology to the old man before returning just in time to hear Joan to which he simply shook his head. "You can have my share. I could not care less." the boy interjects as he simply waves off the notion. Standing idle next to Effie he places a hand on her head and ruffles up her hair, successfully tousling her done up braids. She gives him a look of disapproval, immediately trying to fix them. His blue eyes wander back over to Tasha, and he frowns a little. "Alright Effie, want to help me look for Percy? I know you Hufflepuffs are extraordinary finders!" He smiles down at her lovingly. She agrees to help him find the blonde Slytherin on the condition that he does her homework for the night. He can't help but chuckle at the request, and agrees to do it. It was so hard to say no to her after all. The little red head turns to the others and gives them a quick good bye, a bright smile on her face. Then the two saunter off in search of Percy.

Chapter V. Strange Circumstances
MbjHoSO.jpg

Date: Saturday, October 4, 1975
Time: 4pm
Weather: Cloudy

It won't be long, they say, until Hogwarts closes its doors for good. What is said to be the safest place after Gringotts seems unable to uphold its reputation any longer. In fact, it is severely damaging it. After the hijacking of the Hogwarts Express, the last thing the school needed was another security flaw to cripple its already tainted reputation. But that is exactly what transpired over the last week. Rumors say that the Chamber of Secrets has been opened again, and whilst many were unaware what it meant, knowledge and fear spread quickly. One thing is for certain: a monster is on the loose, and anyone is in danger, especially those born to muggle parents; for Slytherin was an unkind and prejudiced man, and it was he who created the basilisk to dispose those he deemed unworthy to attend the school.

By far, there have been two victims. Luckily, there have been no deaths yet, but the incidents were enough to close the school temporarily for investigations. Those unable or do not wish to return home for the time being are instead holed up in Hogsmeade. Classes have ceased for at least a week now, but if all goes well, they will resume by next week under the supervision of a new headmaster. The identity of the headmaster is currently unknown; even the professors have been extremely tight-lipped about it. All that is known is that Dumbledore has disappeared, and that someone from the ministry has been sent to replace him.

In the meantime, the students are free to do whatever they wish; unless they are below the age of 17, in which case they are not permitted to use magic out of school bounds. There are a few faculty members about as well, for the students could never be left alone for whatever reason.

Though there is a looming threat over them, a glimmer of hope and fun remains. For the time being.

Zipping up her jacket and putting her shoes on Delynn quickly shuffled out of her room within the students temporary housing. Peaking out the main door she looked behind her to see no one else was in the small hallway. Running a hand through her blonde hair she quickly slipped out the partially open door. Stepping outside Lynn felt a breeze brush against her legs. Slipping her hands into her pockets she began to make her way onto Hogsmeade's high street. Looking around as she walked it began to become clear that she was still learning her way around. Stopping and back tracking twice Lynn finally stopped infront of Honeydukes.

Looking into the window she saw everything that she desired in this world. The confectioneries scattered all about called to her on a level that only a few could understand. Opening the door she was surprised at how empty it was but then it dawned on her that most students had gone home. Taking her hands out of her pockets Lynn quickly began to gather a hoard of chocolate. "Uhm... I'd like eight chocolate frogs. Uhhh...." Lynn spoke alittle overwhelmed with her choices. "Wow, this is abit much. I guess three of everything?" Lynn finally decided. "Oh, instead of three chocolate frogs make it eight still. Oh and uhhhhh three cases of chocolate Liqueur." Lynn listed off without skipping a beat.

Anastasia Fitzgerald
Seventh Year, Ravenclaw
Anastasia couldn’t help but feel a sense of loneliness taking the path to Hogsmeade without the always present Lauren Harrison. The girl’s circumstances found her laying in a hospital bed—petrified. Her case not at all like the other victim found Rory Thomson. Laurie was found in the girls’ bathroom on the second floor—Ana didn’t know when Laurie was found but she did remember the sick feeling in her stomach she had when finally seeing the girl in her current state.

It didn’t help that now she was walking to Lauren’s favourite place in the whole world without her—the head girl felt like she was betraying the loveable redhead. An odd thought, but granted, Anastasia couldn’t help but admit the empty pit in her heart that was left by the absence of the energetic girl.

Scanning the crowd of students that were heading towards Hogsmeade—she made note of a few more absent faces: Persephone Gaunt, Alistair Blackbourne, Morrigan Quinn and Juniper Murray. All most definitely had their reason—it was the kind of people they were. There was a rumour buzzing about Percy leaving early to head to St Mungo’s, but no one knew why. Of course, Ana thought it was for the girl’s situation and somewhat decline in her mental health. Ever since the two victims had been found she’d been a nervous wreck. A bubbly set of nerves that seemed to be like a pot boiling over and nothing was there to stop it.

Kicking a few of the fallen Autumn leaves she thought about the former Orchestra member—and held a sense of hope that the girl would get the very help she needed. As for the others—Alistair, she didn’t particularly care where he was, and well the other two… Morrigan and Juniper—were most likely killing something innocent and fluffy for their given pleasures.

Her sad and now foggy eyes flickered amongst the many stalls placed out around the centre of Hogsmeade as well the many shops. Firstly, Anastasia found herself staring in the window of an odd plush and toy shop. Pushing open the door—she looked around with a lowered manner. Scanning for something perfect for Lauren. There she found a plush toad, with the most perfect detailing. Walking over to the counter she looked to the old witch whom made the craft and spent her days selling her pride and joy.

“Can I get the toad plush please, with a little ribbon wrapped around his neck…” She asked in a soft tone of voice, looking down at the little creature. Running her fingers over the fabric feeling tears trickle down her cheeks. The request of a ribbon made the older witch cock a brow, though not before whispering soft coos and gentle words towards the Head Girl whom found herself sobbing at the counter. “I’m sorry it’s for my friend…” She murmured between a few sniffles, reaching for her purse and procuring the proper amount to pay. “I think she’d like it… Her toad has been missing since we found her.” Ana added wrapping the bow around the toad’s neck and picking it up into her arm.

Stepping out into the streets once more with tears streaming down her cheeks. Although, she had done something nice for her friend.
