1975. A time of struggle for muggles and wizards alike. While the cold war is at its height, the wizarding world is faced with a war of its own. The Daily Prophet has reported nothing but bad news as of late. There have been disappearances, murders, dark marks in the sky, and sightings of strange men in masks. Whispers say this is all the work of the Dark Lord, an enemy so formidable no one dares to speak his name.

A dark cloud hangs over Hogwarts, for even its peace has been disturbed. The promise of a new academic year and its would-be adventures are instead shrouded in unspeakable fear. There are those who come to Hogwarts with dark intentions and even darker magic. No one knows who they are. They stay in the shadows, bearing the faces of old friends or foes, whispering, scheming...

In this age of growing racial prejudice, the well-being of half-breeds and muggle borns hang in the balance.

Hogwarts is no longer safe.
Current Chapter 6: A Solemn Supper

Date: Wednesday, October 8 1975
Time: 6pm
Event: Feast at the Great Hall
Weather: Cloudy

Hogwarts opens its great doors once more, though the students that choose to remain are anything but great in number. If, at the beginning of the school year, the halls were flooded with streams of black robes, it is now reduced to a trickle. And what would customarily be an exited hubbub is now uncomfortably quiet, occasionally permeated by whispers of uncertainty and fear.

Something about Hogwarts has changed. Something more than the Chamber of Secrets being opened then closed once again. Something more than the appointment of the new Headmaster Demetrius Creed, whose very existence seems to be shrouded in mystery. Hogwarts itself seems foreboding somehow. Like some dark and evil spirit has possessed its very walls. For the castle towers now stood frowning upon the encroaching students like it loathes for them to come back. There will be no warm welcome, no semblance of a joyous celebration to be had. There is only the beginnings of an omen.

But even in the darkness, there is hope. The two students who fell victim to the Basilisk are now cured and well, even if the trauma remains with them and will haunt their dreams for some time.

Today, they will be rejoining their classmates who, upon their arrival, are immediately ushered into the Great Hall for supper. There, half the former staff awaits them upon their usual seats at the great table, whilst the other half seems to have been replaced by unknown and unwelcoming new faces. The usual seat of the Headmaster is curiously empty.

ALISTAIR BLACKBOURNE

When the train came to a screeching halt, it took Alistair's quick reflexes to save himself from a potentially embarrassing fall. The train went dark. There was a noise that sounded suspiciously like an explosion, and amidst the quiet murmur of concerned students, the sound of heavy footfalls growing closer and closer.

Alistair had only just turned around and barely sighted the intruders when a scarlet jet of light sped past him. The disarming spell hit one of the men, and for the first time, Alistair realized that these people were wearing masks. He recognized to whom these masks belonged almost instantaneously.

Fear encroached upon his mind, turning his entire body into stone. It was only when Percy took his hand that he snapped back to his senses. They ran without looking back.

They hadn't gotten very far when Echo approached them, but Alistair could only barely understand what she was saying over all the other things that were taking place at that exact same moment. It seemed that someone had distracted the Death Eaters momentarily.

"No, they'll find her there eventually," he told her. Then, looking back, he noticed one Death Eaters turning towards them. "Get Percy out of the train. Hurry!"

Alistair pointed his wand at the oncoming Death Eater, yelling a disarming spell just as the man yelled a curse back. Beams of light clashed against each other, the force of the attack pushing Alistair backwards inch by inch.

"Silly boy!" The Death Eater hissed at him, twisting his wrist to get an advantage. It worked, the spell knocking Alistair back against the wall. With a groan, the boy slid to the floor, wand laying uselessly by his side.

When Marcus had not shown up, Leontios was forced to board the train as the final calls echoed from within the station. A frown marred his features as stormy blue eyes focused on the parting families that were waving goodbye to their children to see if a familiar face stood out within the diminishing crowds. Leo could only assume that Marcus was late or already on the train – possibly having forgotten their plan to meet before departure. A sigh parted from his lips as he slumped further into his seat in the compartment filled to the brim with similar year Gryffindor students, a hand dragging across his face in exasperation at his own erratic but concerned thoughts. However, as his hand dropped to his side his expression had lit up into a large, toothy grin when he was dragged into the other student’s conversation of their summer. It wasn’t long till his own voice thundered over the other shouting students followed by thunderous laughter. They were the loudest compartment in the carriage, but none seemed to pay any mind to it.

It was only as the train began to thunder down the tracks that they simmered down slightly, their voices no longer high-spirited and loud but instead, just a mix of chatter between the students inside. Leo himself was chatting away with another fifth year about a comic book. The compartments chatter was silenced when the students were jostled by the sudden stop of the train, throwing the loosely placed students about till many had fallen or collapsed onto one another. Leo found himself sprawled upon the compartment floor with another student collapsed on top of him, the boys elbow buried in his gut causing a hiss of pain to pass his lips. Carefully he unwound himself from the pile of bodies and groans, dragging himself over to the door of their selected space.

“What the hell is going on?!”

His voice echoed above the worried ramblings beginning to rise in noise across the nearby students, his blue gaze studying everyone carefully before his attention was garnered by a flash and then a scream. Spinning around, his hand already reaching to his wand settled within his jacket, Leo came to discover three masked creatures. "What t-the...Death Eaters?!" Stunned, the dark-haired wizard stalled for a moment as fear encompassed him, sending a shiver down his spine. Nerves gave him a slight shake to his grip on his wand, but he didn’t back down.

“You bloody Idiot!”

Just as a killing curse was thrown towards him someone slammed into him and shoved him from its path. Leo was thrown to the floor, the air drawn from his lungs as his eyes flickered open to stare at who had saved him before his attention was drawn back to the masked man now towering ominously over them. A scowl painted his features as his grip tightened upon his wand, gathering himself up slowly as the witch-now raven- distracted the closest death eater. Instinctively he pushed himself in front of the girl who saved him as he directed his wand, waiting for the blue magic lingering from his wand to change to a familiar reddish-purple hue before he called out the spell, “Flipendo!”. As if struck to the chest, the distracted death eater was thrown back by the knock-back jinx and Leo hurried with his quickly thought out plan. Reaching out he hurriedly locked his arm around the stunned raven form of Rosabel, dragging the squawking and erratic raven form to his side as his other hand latched onto his saviour’s wrist. Without even a second glance, Leo pulled the girl along with him as he bound down the carriages in attempt to get them away from the lurking death eaters.

“We need to go, now!”

Unaware of the troubles soon to plague the train and the students it carried, Two youths were just heading back to their cabin after having just purchased refreshments from the vendor cart that travels the train's aisles. The first of the two was a young pale skinned girl with long red hair braided into twin tails and dressed in a delicate looking green dress to match her deep green hair bows. Her light brown eyes looking up at the other child, a boy so similar in appearance that they had to be related, with such adoration while they conversed quietly amongst themselves. One of the bags of candy gently swinging from her arm as they approached their cabin.

"I'm so excited for school to start! What clubs are you thinking about joining this year?" She asks him seemingly chipper this morning. Shoving a hand into the bag she pulls out on of her favorite candy bars, and begins to unwrap it while her older brother Wallace replies.

"Obviously I'm going back to wizard chess club, and there's slughorn's club too. I'm not sure if I'll join any others since I need to focus on my academics. Also, Has he invited you yet?" Her brother asks as he stuffs his hands in his pockets. It did not take long for Slughorn to notice him due to his excellent grades, among other things, though he wondered if the only reason he got invited was due to his father's business in providing wand cores. Effie wasn't as keen with her grades, so if she got an invitation that would further his suspicions. Not that the girl wasn't talented, she was extremely well versed at caring for mythical beasts, but it wasn't something that would secure her a political position or a job as an auror.

"Boooo those are so boring!" The girl teases with a small chuckle. Then she adds "Slughorn? No I haven’t, I don’t think I would either way. I'm probably going to join Care of Mythical Creatures again. I was also thinking of joining the Frog Choir too this year, but I'm not sure if it'd work out." She says quietly, almost timidly. She wasn't very confident in her ability to sing, but her family always encouraged it. Plus she was shy about being forthright with her ability to sing, and couldn't imagine herself performing well in front of an audience. Finally back at the cabin they open it's door revealing their cousin Elise and their new acquaintance Edwin chatting. Their entrance enough to effectively interrupt them from it. When they entered Effie returned to her seat next to their favorite cousin Elise.

"Please Effie, You have an amazing singing voice. The Frog Choir would be happy to have you, right Elise?" Wallace huffed as he took his seat across from his sister. There was no way he was going to let Effie sit next to some boy, he had made that quite clear earlier after they had met up with their cousin when the train was just leaving the station. Of course he didn't like the idea of Elise hanging around with them either, who knows what kind of trouble she'd get in. He had to protect them both now that their eldest brother had already graduated.

The questioned went unanswered though, as a sudden jolt caused a huge disturbance through out the train. Effie unprepared for the sudden jerk ended up being flung from her chair, her head swiftly meeting her older brother's knees. Immediately after Wallace was at her side pulling her up from the floor as a heavy explosion rocked the cabin. Setting Effie gently back in her seat, he began fretting over her asking if she was okay while checking her eye. "I'm fine, it doesn't hurt too badly. What was that though?" she asks curiously eyeing the door. Wallace took a moment to peek outside their cabin and look down the aisle, and immediately he shut and locked the door. When she drew his wand Effie's expression becane rought with worry as her older brother's expression darkened.

"Quietus. Quietus. Quietus." One by one the boy casted a deafening spell on the three other passengers, including Effie herself. The spell was to protect them from making any loud noises while they talked to keep the attackers unaware of their presence. Though when Wallace did not cast it on himself Effie knew he was going to do something dangerous. "Death Eater, so stay here. I am going to cast a protection spell on the cabin to keep on lookers away from it. I'm going to try to apprehend them until help arrives." However Effie began to protest her voice only the softest whisper due to the spell he had casted. She grabbed onto him with tears in her eyes, and the two began to struggle. Heavy footsteps approached their cabin, and they quickly fell silent. Effie's hand immediately covering her brother's mouth. She was shaking in fear now, but kept herself from crying out quietly. When the figure in their window passed them Effie removed her small hands from him, but still kept a grip on his arm. There was no way she was going to let him leave this cabin! When she was met with a stern, almost frightful gaze she finally let him go. "Thank you. Stay here the three of you, and lock the door behind me. Everything will be fine." He said with a small reassuring smile. There was not a single once of fear on his face as he left the cabin. When he closed the door he casted the protection spell on the cabin rendering it temporarily invisible to any one passing by. Looking ahead he could see a flash of magical light, and feel the energy of two spells being casted from where he was standing. Not knowing who was in danger, the red headed boy deftly came up from behind with his wand raised and ready. Pressing himself against train's wall he was able to angle himself just right to get a line of sight on the death eater's wand.

"Expelliarmus!" He casts with a shout, causing the attacker's wand to be flung out of his hand. Then he paired his first spell with Accio, allowing the wand to be summoned to him rendering the death eater magically defenseless. With out even thinking about it Wallace snapped the wand in half like a twig and tossed it aside. The Death Eater cursing him for destroying it, but then laughing at the boy despite his grievances. "I've never met someone that laughed at such things, you Death Eaters really are insane." Wallace interjects with an icy tone and a perplexed look on his face. Though it immediately wavered as he felt the tip of a wand press against his neck. Chills coursed through out his entire body, and his hair stood on end. The boy immediately regretted not asking one of the others to come with him to watch his back. Frantically looking for a means to counter this situation he finally notices Alistair on the floor with his wand right beside him. He couldn't tell if the Slytherin boy had been knocked out or what, so that left his mind racing for alternatives.

"I know that face. You're that Campbell boy arn't you? We've heard about your family. Maybe we should visit them after we deal with Gaunt. I bet they'd join the cause if their little boy went missing. Or maybe we should recruit that cousin of yours." The Death Eater says to him menacingly, the other across from them laughing again at the little quip. Though this comment had filled Wallace with pure unadulterated rage. A viciously angry look plagued his face as he seethed internally, but unable to do anything.

"What a nasty look you've given him. We can't stay here, just deal with him so we can snatch that girly." The other sneered and Wallace watched the Death Eater as he approached Ali's limp body, obviously wishing to take the boys wand to replace the one he had just lost. This was it, if he didn't do something soon this one behind him would certainly kill him to move on. He just wasn't sure if he could move fast enough to defend himself against two Death Eaters blasting curses at him.

Henry Chen
SEVENTH YEAR HUFFLEPUFF
The words had only just left Henry's mouth when a familiar voice yelled his name in the distance. Henry turned to find Lauren bounding towards him, a hint of chocolate smeared all around her lips.

"Missed a spot!" Henry flashed the girl a teasing smile, rubbing the chocolate off her face with the tip of his thumb. His eyes fell onto the stash of snacks cradled in her arm. "Jeez, raid the food trolley, why don't you?"

Just then, the train came to a halt. The jolt propelled Henry forwards, so that he would have knocked Lauren over hadn't he grabbed hold of the window sill. They were inches apart now, but there was no time to feel embarrassed. A bang resonated throughout the corridor. Henry turned just in time to see the three intruders make their appearance.

In a matter of moments, a war broke out. A couple of Death Eaters seemed to have cornered Wallace, with one of them reaching for Alistair's wand. Yelling, Henry snatched Lauren's chocolate frog and hurled it towards the crouching Death Eater. It hit him smack in the face, and the man turned towards him with a murderous look.

Henry felt the blood leave his face as he reached for his wand and muttered the first spell he could think of.

"Ri-rictusempra!"

Nothing happened. Henry quietly cursed himself. All those years of practicing charms, and now that it came in handy, his nerves would render it useless. The man took Alistair's wand and pointed it at him.

Voice etched with malice, the man cried, "Crucio!"

Henry fell to his knees.

A small giggle rolled from the smaller Hufflepuff’s dirtied lips at Henry’s teasing. “Oh! Rowan didn’t tell me about those smudges,” she exclaimed in a tone of embarrassment staring down at the toad in her grasp. The toad merely croaked in response, holding an air of self-defence in his large brown-green eyes. Lauren merely blinked a few times before flashing a devilish smile towards her housemate and partner in crime. “Of course, can’t let all the good stuff go to waste. Saved you a few… I think?” The hungry badger tried to find the spares she bought with the intention to give to Henry though it quickly became apparent that she had eaten them.

The sudden jerking halt the train gave caused Henry to jolt forward. Her tiny hands in a panic let go of her poor beloved toad and grabbed the window frame closest to her. Rowan the toad was now at her feet, but when the train finally came to an stop the fat toad rolled away into a open compartment not too far away. Lauren in fact was a few inches away from Henry’s chest but she didn’t have time to think about how nice his sweater smelt. The small redhead stepped back just the smallest amount to hear the horrifying sound of an explosion from over the end of the corridor. She watched on as Henry drew his attention to the source of the explosion and that was where three dark figures appeared from the smoke.

Lauren swallowed back the feeling of bile rising in her throat. The figures gave her an unsettled feeling. The air in the corridor became something toxic and hard to breathe, it was almost as if the grim reaper himself was waiting for them. After a few minutes of chilling silence Lauren watched on as the Death Eaters began their attacks on random students that got in their way. Wallace Campbell was cornered by two of the three Death Eaters, as the third found his target in Alistair Blackbourne someone she didn’t look too fondly upon but didn’t wish this much against him.

A rough snatch caught Lauren’s attention as she tore her gaze away from the limp Slytherin on the ground and towards her good friend, Henry Chen. “Henry, what the hell are you doing?” Lauren cursed in a frightened whisper, wondering what he was planning in that moment with a chocolate frog. In the moment the chocolate bounced off the mask of the Death Eater, the shorter Hufflepuff couldn’t help but to gasp in utter shock. She didn’t expect Henry to do something that stupid, and to add to the insult of his stupidity… However, he dared to waste her food- which could be her very last snack ever.

A murderous gaze seemed to confirm how badly Henry had messed up and the little badger behind him seemed to know that now. Her mouth fell agape when she watched Henry’s spell fail in a moment that could have meant life or death. The failure soon rendered her friend to the ground on his knees. The returning attack from the Death Eater was too much for their lacking experience which was compared to the much older and well versed dark wizard. Her forehead beamed with sweat when she drew her wand, looking past the Death Eater to spot the now orphaned Gaunt girl.

I’m sorry, Persephone… I promised, but I have to give Henry a chance to get out of here. Lauren thought quietly to herself as she raised her wand to prepare a spell. At the swift changing of her stance and words that spoke venom, Lauren yelled her spell. “Serpensortia!”

A beam of white light flashed from her wand as a cobra sprung forth from her wand. The transfiguration spell worked like a charm with the cobra landing on the head of a tempered Death Eater. “Oi! No one’s allowed to mess with Henry but me! You got that fucker!” Lauren yelled in a spiteful manner as her bad temper strung forth before lifting her gaze towards the frightened Gaunt girl a distance away. A curt nod was the only response the Hufflepuff got as she leant down to Henry trying to get a good grip on him. It was difficult at first but Lauren managed to get a good enough hold on her fellow peer and began to pull him away into a opened compartment before snapping the door shut and locking it with her wand.

“Jesus Christ, Henry are you okay?” Lauren asked in a frightful tone of voice as crouched down beside him giving a worried look over his face and body for a moment. She helped him lean up against the closed compartment door and then she took her place at the door beside him, pressing her head to the wood trying to listen out for any size of what was happening. For all she could hear was a vague sound—a haunting hiss—and she knew then Persephone was taking advantage of the cobra that she had summoned and left behind.

Elise never heard Edwin’s reply as her attention was garnered by the entrance of her two cousins, Effie and Wallace. A bright smile danced on her lips as she hurriedly stood to embrace Effie, a delighted coo parting from her lips, “Effie! ~”. Elise was ecstatic to see her two cousins and the second she had released Effie, she was already reaching over in the compartments space to wrap her arms around Wallace. “Of course, Effie! You would be wonderful in the frog choir!” She agreed readily, releasing her grip as she stepped back to her seat, gaze upon Effie as she smiled. “Have confidence in yourself! It will be a positive experience for you as well and it’ll definitely improve your confidence- “

The jolt of the train unfortunately cut her off, throwing her from the cushioned seat onto the floor of the compartment with a soft groan. Having wrapped her arms around her head she avoided hitting her head on the floor of the train, allowing her to hurry herself to her feet with an expression of confusion and restrained curiousity. The sudden events rendered her mute as confusion made her stand on alert, curiousity causing her gaze to flicker to each of the other compartment’s inhabitants. When she saw Effie though, Elise moved. Her expression twisted into one of concern as she wrapped her arms around the injured younger witch with a soft smile – though this did not last long.

“Death Eaters?”

Elise’s expression morphed at her cousin’s words, traces of confusion and curiousity gone and replaced by a more serious one as she watched her cousin. “Wallace! Do not go out there! You are going to get yourself hurt!” Elise hissed, releasing her hold on Effie as she pulled herself up and steeled her gaze at him, hands on her hips. However, it did nothing as the older wizard still left the safety of the cabin. An exasperated sigh parted her lips and Elise hurried to her bag and fumbled for a minute to find her wand. “Effie! Edwin! Stay in here!”. Her tone was still hushed as she found her wand and stepped around the others to the door, a soft smile gracing her lips as she turned a reassuring gaze to her younger cousin. She knew to well the girl would be concerned for her brother for Elise herself felt the same. “I’ll make sure he doesn’t get hurt...just stay here.”.

Was everyone okay? Was anyone hurt? What if someone dear to her was hurt? To many thoughts began to plague her conscious mind as she quietly exited the cabin, her steps deliberately slow and quiet to avoid notice as she crept from the only safety she had from these monsters. Her heart pounded in her chest and faintly, she wondered if anyone else could hear it. Though, she internally swore it had stopped when she settled her now wide-eyed gaze upon the events before her. Alistair was on the floor unconscious and Wallace was being approached by Death Eaters until someone stepped in – Henry.

“Crucio!”

Elise was stunned then as she watched the curse collide with one of her dear friends, her lips parting as if to scream but the golden brown-haired witch was silent. Fear was replaced by anger as she felt the sting of tears well up at the corner of her stormy grey gaze. These were her friends, her family! Fight or flight instincts seemed to settle upon fight as she drew her wand up, expression steeled. Seeing that the Henry was being taken care of by Lauren, Elise turned to her Death Eater approaching her cousin. Her wand traced the movement of the spell as a white light began to erupt into existence as her voice followed, calling out the spell, Petrificus Totalus”. The spell hit the surprised Death Eater and Elise watched as their body seized and froze before her very eyes. A thud echoed as the stunned form of the Death Eater fell to the ground before her cousin. Elise blinked wearily at the fallen Death Eater as she supressed the slither of guilt that buried its way into her thoughts. She quickly shook it off and turned to Wallace, a frown on her lips. “Do something about the other one!” She called out before heading over to the fallen Alistair.

Leaving the Death Eater stunned with the snake to Wallace and whoever else, Elise dropped to her knees beside the fallen Alistair. Her emotions failed to stray her from logic as she placed herself strategically where she could keep the remaining Death Eater in her gaze, her attention shifting between the two. Her friend and her enemy. Elise’s form shook slightly, though she could not tell if it was from anger or fear, as her hand reached out to settle her free hand upon Alistair’s shoulder to shake him softly. “Ali!” She hissed, her tone a whisper as she shook the unconscious Slytherin. “You need to wake up! This is really not a good time to be out…”. When there was no reaction, Elise furrowed her brow before sighing, knowing full well she could not drag him away without being attacked and leaving him unconscious around Death Eaters was not an option. "Forgive me for this...". With the soft mutter of her growing guilt, Elise brought her hand across his cheek, attempting to awaken the unconscious Alistair. "Ali! Wake up already!"

Edwin chose to ignore the latter half of her description of her previous summer year in order to focus his attention outside of the windows once more, setting aside his bag of treats casually with little attendance to his surroundings. As per usual. The uncomfortable air in the room eventually would raise to his eyes greeting them around the outing of the compartment, his vision peered into the hall.

One hand posted itself onto his wand, waving and whispering under his breath, one of the heavy luggage cases begin to levitate behind him as he dragged it across the compartment like a brush to a canvas. "Elise?" The noises of what presumably could've been worse than what was ever seen up to this date eventually got to him, running , dropping the luggage. He slid into the next compartment looking for his friend, his feet stuttering and his body losing composure.

"Everything ok?" Rather late to the event as usual, he feels a bit disturbed but relieved. He did his best to examine the room, trying to not make any incorrect assumptions to not look ignorant.

He awaited a response. His hands chilled into his pockets, one in particular still had a trigger finger, his specialty was transfiguration, and his pride was the ability to runaway. But the only person who may have known that was Elise or Henry. He wasn't proud of it, and he knew he had to work on it.

The Aurors' Arrival
- A GM POST -

  「 The Maze 」Patrick Doyle
They appeared just then, rain-soaked and barely visible through the foggy glass. A brief flash of lightning later and they were aboard the train, among them a limping man whose one glass eye swiveled around its socket as though it had a life of its own. Anyone would instantly recognize these aurors. What had taken them so long to get here, one could only guess.

"You three, behind me!" Mad-Eye Moody shouted at Leo's group as he aimed his wand at the Death Eater in pursuit. The Death Eater, who had seen this coming, halted in his tracks. A duel ensued between the two men, light clashing against light as those in between ducked for cover.

Meanwhile, the Death Eater who had been attacked by the snake flicked it away with a wave of his wand then, in a panic, unbound his immobile ally with a counter curse. A second later and the adjacent glass window disappeared. The pair climbed through it, leaving the other aurors scrambling to chase after them.

It didn't take long until the last Death Eater that had been dueling with Mad-Eye was defeated, falling backwards and sweating. But despite the blood trickling down his leg, he possessed a remarkable endurance. In a last ditch effort to escape, he scrambled up to his feet and grabbed Percy by the hair, pointing a wand against her neck.

"Let me go, or she dies," he seethed through the slits in his mask.

In the chaos that ensued within the entire train Percy couldn't help but feel lost in a waving sense of anxiety. A group of aurors appeared at the scene with not much time wasted but there was already some students injured. The terrified blonde ducked and hit the ground hoping to keep out of the way of the duel between a well known auror Mad Eye and the last standing Death Eater. Persephone watched the duel with full intensity before a distraction caught her gaze. Finally, she remembered the snake that Lauren had summoned earlier. It gave her a plan—something that could possibly kill the Death Eater. A bite wound would be fatal or very well lead him to his capture. The raging duel continued on and gave her a chance to whisper something in a haunting hiss before daring to extend her hand to the deadly snake. It spoke back and listened to her plans.

Persephone shivered at the warm scales slithering up her jumper and towards her back. In the moment she felt her own heart beat slow to a dull pace. The Death Eater was bloodied and beaten by Mad-Eye Moody in no time; the duel appeared all but finished or so they thought. His last efforts caused his thinking to go towards taking a target and it seemed Persephone being the closest worked the best. In a rough jerk of the seething dark figure’s wrist the seventh year’s attention was pulled to the long fingers tangled in strands of her hair. The smell of blood and sweat was all that Percy could smell. It seemed apparent that blood had drained from her face in the moment his wand pointed against her neck. She quietly cursed herself thinking about the words of insane desperation spilling from behind the Death Eater’s mask.

For a moment a sternness drew a mask over Persephone’s frightened expression. Her stubbornness to survive but not let him get away sparked a rage hidden within. A gaze of greenish-yellow lingered for a moment before drawing it directly towards the auror before her and her captor. She didn’t waver in her planning—she was going to do this now and let it be the end of it and if she was to die in order to get him caught so be it. Percy took a deep breath and then sharply exhaled. She bade goodbye to a secret she had held for years from her peers and knew that now it was for the benefit of everyone that she spoke it.

In that moment it was as if Pandora’s Box had been opened awakening the darkness within Persephone that had always been there.”If I die you’re going with me,” The girl promised. ”You won’t be returning to your Dark Lord.” Percy continued as she whispered another few words in the considerably dark language and the black cobra slithered up to her collar and made a deadly attack. Fangs coated with venom sunk into the darkly robed arm and cut flesh. It allowed the girl to grip the wand aimed toward her neck and use the strength in her injured hands to redirect it. The force Persephone pushed against the wand opened the wounds on her hands, fresh blood spurted and ran down her wrists.

“You three, behind me!”

Leo paused at the shout, grey orbs flickered wide in surprise as his hurried steps faltered. When he finally stopped, Leo came face to face with a duel between auror and death eater, a sight that stunned him but evoked an exciting glimmer in his gaze. He barely noticed as his grip slowly weakened upon Deborah’s wrist and around the angered raven, his attention solely garnered by the eruption of magic from either side.

“Duck, you idiot!” Deborah yelled for the second time as he pulled Leo to the floor behind the auror.

A few blinding flashes later and the Death Eater was knocked back, bleeding. But his wounds barely fazed him as he seized Percy by the hair and pointed a wand to her neck. He didn’t have to speak for the others to know what he intended to do.

A dark shadow seemed to settle on Percy’s face and, before anyone could move a muscle, she began to speak.

Parseltongue! Debbie brought a hand to her mouth.

Rosa had observed the situation for a few more seconds before she found herself settling her feet upon the ground, once again in her human form but with widened eyes and lips parted in shock. Proximity allowed her to catch onto Deborah’s whisper and she had to agree though she did not verbalise it. It seemed that Deborah had caught on as well, though the same could not be said for Leontios who was still awe struck by the auror before them. She was characteristically silent but a dangerous glimmer danced within amber depths as the corner of her lips twitched - threatening to twist into a crooked smile.

“This...has now gotten interesting…”

The snake slithered up Percy’s back and, at the girl’s urging, leapt towards the Death Eater and sunk its fangs into the man’s arm. Blood ran from the wound as the man staggered back, giving the auror enough time to apprehend him with a single spell.

A sigh of relief escaped Debbie’s lips as the man was taken away and the lights overhead flickered back on. She didn’t know what came over her just then. Perhaps it was the shock, the relief, or a mix of both, but in a matter of seconds she found herself doubling over in nervous laughter.

“You sure ruffled Rosa’s feathers, didn’t you, kid?” She gave the dumb Gryffindor a pat on the back.

Leontios didn’t break from his stupor until he felt the girl from before pat his back, causing him to send her a confused, owlish stare for a few seconds. Eventually, he looked over at the brunette who by now was staring at them both with a stoic expression though her gaze seemed to desire only harm to befall them both.

“O-oh...Right! Sorry about that!” He replied, a nervous chuckle parting his lips as he grinned. Relief had settled his nerves and he reverted to his usual behaviour. “Didn’t think to be honest! Except that we had to get out of the-”

Leontios was silenced when Rosa jammed her elbow into his gut, causing him to erupt into a cough as the air was forced from his lungs. She stared at him with a blank, uncaring gaze as she reached up to sort out her hair that had become ruffled due to his thoughtless actions. “Yes, well. Mention this, ever, and I will end you. Got it, brat?”. Rosa unfortunately only received a nod in reply as the Gryffindor stared, bewildered by the strange student that just assaulted him. Rosa turned to Debbie, only now her expression twisting to one of slight irritation.

“And you, just be quiet. I don’t have the patience to deal with you after all this.”

“You’re never going to live this one down, Rosa,” Debbie simply shook her head, still chuckling. She reached out and gave the girl’s head a single pat. “Missed a spot.”

Rosa could feel the irritation continue to swell up inside her, though she kept her expression devoid of emotion. Reaching up she pushed the Ravenclaw’s hand from her with the back of her own, as if disgusted by her very proximity, as she observed her with an uncaring glance. “Really? Well, don’t play with fire, Deborah.”, Rosa cooed sweetly before turning on her feet and heading back to the compartment she was previously seated, only sparing the two of them a quick wave of her hand.

“You’ll get burned. So, do be careful. I know you do not have any friends to save you after all.” Rosa closed the door with thud after that, leaving the lingering threat in the air as she left.

ALISTAIR BLACKBOURNE

Alistair was already beginning to regain his consciousness when something struck him against the cheek. His eyes flew open, wide and startled, as his hands instinctively groped for a wand that wasn’t there. It took him a moment or two to realize that the face he was staring at didn’t belong to a Death Eater, but rather a very concerned Elise.

The vague throbbing at the back of his head reminded him of what had just happened. Recognition dawned on his eyes as he frantically looked around, but he visibly relaxed once he realized that the battle was finally over. Persephone seemed safe too, if not a little wounded.

Groaning, Alistair slid up against the wall. He reached up only to feel a small bump forming at the back of his head.

“Elise,” he heaved a sigh, brows furrowing as he put a hand to his forehead. “You’re extremely lucky I don’t have my wand with me.

“Speaking of my wand, where is it?”

The curse seemed to knock out all the oxygen in his body. Henry struggled for air, clawed at the ground, saw nothing but blinding flashes of white as an indescribable pain hit him everywhere, all at once. The pain was so great he was sure he would die, then and there. That at some point he would reach his limit and explode. Every inch of him strained against the curse, but it was impossible to do anything. He simply knelt, convulsing, slowly losing any semblance of where he was, who he was, or what he was supposed to do. If he had been screaming, he couldn't hear himself. The pain left no room to think of anything else but simply the sensation of it.

When the curse was finally lifted off of him, it took him a moment to come back to his senses. His eyes strained to see Lauren, who hovered above him. Something about her face, creased with worry and relief, made his chest clench in a way that felt uncomfortable but right all the same.

"Never been better," he cracked a smile at the girl's question, "Am I in heaven? By the way, you still have a little bit of chocolate on your mouth."

And with that, he dozed off.

"Elise wai-!" but the brunette was gone before Effie could so much as say anything. Fearful she immediately locked the cabin after Elise debarted, and curled up in her seat. Hugging her legs to her chest she rested her chin on her knees trying to disassociate from their current situation. Her eyes darting over to the boy she had been left alone with. Unguarded with. Sure she knew Edwin was nice. They were aquainted with each other due to their mutual bonds with her cousin Elise, but she didn't really KNOW him. The sound of spells being casted echoed through out the train, and the energy caused the express to shift and groan. The young girl could sense it bubbling inside her. A sickness that took over her mind and body. It caused her palms to sweet and her heart to race, and soon her imagination ran rampant. Squeezing her eyes shut, she covered her ears with her delicate hands hide her face in her knees. Before her breathing became erratic she started to count backwards from twenty, making sure to breath between each number. Immediately having recognized the signs of a panic attack she worked herself down, only to find that she was now alone in the cabin. It startled her, yes, but she knew the cabin was hidden. She would be fine, and now she wasn't alone with some random boy too. She didn't have to worry about interacting with him at all. She still desired comfort though, and the thought of Elise and Wallace getting severely hurt still made her stomach churn uneasily.

Grabbing a hoodie from the cubby above her seat, the red head pulled it on over her. The material was soft and heavy, and large enough on her to be spaceous. It was like wearing a blanket. Pulling up the hood she immediately felt more secure, and soon enough the sound of spell casting faded. Is it safe now? Effie thought to herself curiously as she opened up the door and peeked outside. Not really knowing what was going on she left the safety of the cabin and quietly scurried over to her brother's side, who seemed to be staring in awe at whom Effie knew as Persephone. There was still a heaviness to the atmosphere and it made Effie nervous. Clinging onto Wallace snapped him out of the daze he was in, and he looked down at her with a frown.

"I told you to stay in the cabin." he hissed at her in a low but audible whisper.

"It got quiet so I thought everything was fine...." Effie trailed off noticing her cousin and Edwin just a little ahead of them with Ali starting to come out of unconsciousness. Even further ahead was Percy being held at wand point by a Death Eater. The sight of the mask made Effie feel sick, and she immediately started crying quietly. Wallace immediately wrapped an arm around her to stifle her tears, and the comfort was enough to keep her relatively silent save for a sniffle here and there. "Aliiiiii....Elise....."

"Hey it's okay. Look, see Ali is getting up. He is fine. The Aurors will protect Percy too. Everything will be okay." He says to her quietly as he begins to lead her back to the cabin. Looking back at Ali he says to the dark haired Slytherin, "The Death Eater has your wand because I broke his. I would have stopped him but I got ambushed from behind by the second one. We should go back to our cabins and stay out of the Aurors'' way." His icy blue eyes look at Elise and Edwin expectantly, wanting them to return to the cabin with him and Effie as well.

PERSEPHONE GAUNT: DEATH EATER IN DISGUISE?

Multiple witnesses confirmed seeing Persephone Gaunt speak in parseltongue during the Death Eater attack yesterday.

Persephone Gaunt was spotted boarding the Hogwarts Express just yesterday, mere days after the brutal murders of her kin. Is this a sign of admirable strength or heartless indifference? A witness gives us their perspective.

"If she was [putting up a strong facade], I might admire her," the witness tells Grapevine, "But if you ask me, I think this is all part of their plan. The Death Eaters, I mean. They're trying to get us to trust her, but they're really just going to use her against us. She's a Parselmouth, for Merlin's sake!"

The allegations pointing to Persephone Gaunt being a parselmouth seems to be founded in truth, for multiple people have witnessed her speaking the language. Although it was used largely in self-defense against a Death Eater, many believe that the showdown was simply a ruse.
Parseltongue, the language of serpents, is an uncommon and hereditary skill. It is said that all parselmouths are descendants of Salazar Slytherin himself, and that whomever possesses the skill has the ability to open the Chamber of Secrets. It bodes ill fortune, for the last time the Chamber of Secrets was opened, a muggleborn passed away. Moreover, parseltongue has long been regarded as an attribute of a Dark Wizard.

Is Persephone Gaunt simply a pawn of the Death Eaters after all?

"I reckon she's up to no good," says another witness, "I saw Alistair Blackbourne talking to her before [the Death Eaters] came. Suspicious, if you ask me. They're probably partners. Everyone knows how much of a racist Blackbourne can be."

Alistair Blackbourne, recently appointed Head Boy, is known to possess supremacist views and discriminate against muggleborns and halfbreeds.

"I heard him call Lauren mudblood once. That tells you everything you need to know about him," the witness concludes.

Chapter I. Secret Invitations
9VrH9LN.png
Friday, September 5, 1975

Nearly a week has passed since the incident at the Hogwarts Express, yet the shock and trauma still lingers in the minds of those who have witnessed it. The news was all over the Daily Prophet, and it didn't take long until almost half of the Hogwarts population returned to their homes at the urging of worried and angry parents.

Meanwhile, security measures in Hogwarts have tightened considerably. Those who remain are strictly confined to their daily schedules. The week has been nothing short of stressful and dull, with the students' comings-and-goings dictated and monitored with a cautious eye. Trouble-making behavior is shown no leniency.

Thankfully, the weekend is slowly approaching, and it seems there's finally something to look forward to. A note is being passed around in secret, the parchment charmed so that anyone who reads or touches is magically bound to do what it says and cannot reveal its contents to anyone else, thus protecting the secret from getting out and reaching the teachers. It is an invitation to a party that will be held at 8PM that Friday. The letter provides clues as to the room's whereabouts in its mysterious elegant handwriting: a hidden room on the seventh floor, opposite the tapestry of Barnabas the Barmy.

The night was still young but the party was already in full swing in the room of requirement. Pedro stood by the punch bowl watching the growing crowd. His usual smirk tugged at his cheeks when he noticed a certain redhead in attendance— Rory Thomson was never too far away from any party especially if it meant a possible scandal for his paper. At the click of his tongue Pedro pushed himself off the wall and headed towards his more meddlesome accomplice.

He casually tucked his porcelain white hands into his pockets before meeting the other student. “Brilliant plan you have here, Rory.” Pedro congratulated the head of the Newspaper Club with a winning grin. “Hopefully tonight will bring more scandals and interesting articles for the next issue.” He continued turning his gaze to observe the growing crowd. Another figure caught his eye amongst the partying students—a certain toad that was being thrown up into the air in the middle of the dance floor only to be caught by a giggling Hufflepuff with a flower crown decorating her wavy long ginger locks. Lauren Harrison, he thought with a slight tenderness.

A certain amount of softness came to his expression watching the already tipsy badger dancing around with her toad—a present he gave her for Lauren’s birthday one year. She was dressed nicely for once, it was almost as if she was trying to impress someone. Laurie was dressed in a vintage pink cream dress—something was taken from the 1960s. It was slim fitted and accustomed to her fine curve that was often hidden by the oversized uniform she wore. The look was completed with stocking and a pair of black mary janes. She was a sight for sore eyes—something he’d care not to admit though.

Rory Thomson
SEVENTH YEAR RAVENCLAW
“I don’t have the faintest clue what you’re talking about,” Rory said, feigning innocence as he plucked a brownie from the silver platter on his hand. “Care to have some?” He gave the lad a knowing smirk. Rory knew better than to eat the brownies himself, but the others were unaware of his many schemes, which is why they nearly always worked. The only exception at the moment was Morrigan. Without her help, none of this would have been possible, as much as Rory hated to admit it.

It seemed Pedro didn’t quite catch what he said, however, for his attention was diverted. Rory followed the boy’s longing gaze. Not far away was Lauren, dancing like an idiot with her pet toad. It was beyond him how a boy like Pedro, or any boy at all, would be interested in a girl like Lauren. She was incredibly dull, in Rory’s opinion. Much too sweet and too well-meaning. A girl like her would be an interesting victim, and not much else.

“If you would just let me give you a piece of advice,” Rory began in a low voice, leaning forward as he nodded in the girl’s direction, “I think you’re wasting your time. Girls like decisive, aggressive men. Snatch her up before someone else does.” At this, he looked meaningfully towards the Asian boy sleeping soundly with his head on a table. “Henry and Lauren seem awfully close, don’t you think?”

Persephone Gormlaith-Avalon Gaunt

Persephone found herself one of the early birds at the party that night. It could have been possible because of her dying need to stay away from anyone that would ask anything of the train ride to Hogwarts earlier in the year. She was dressed in a fully black attire which made it easier to not be noticed tucked away in the corner. Nibbling away on a chocolate brownie unknowingly succumbing to a secret ingredient.

By the time others had begun to appear and the party had started Percy was helping herself to some alcoholic beverages that were somehow smuggled into the grounds of Hogwarts. She picked a sour red wine to start off with but stole the bottle, instead of a glass-the brownie happened to make her feel very thirsty so a whole bottle seemed like the best idea to her. Once more Percy found herself lounging around in one of the seats in the hidden party room, a straw plucked into the top of the bottle as she sipped away the perfectly sour liquid. Her taste buds danced just as much as her now fuzzy mind did.

Music seemed to make her sway in movement- almost a shocking attempt to keep at pace with the music playing. Percy’s teeth bit into the bottom of her lip when she noticed Lauren dancing around at the center of the floor. In watching the Hufflepuff’s actions she could help but surpass a giggle of drunken amusement.

Percy didn’t feel like anything could take that fuzzy and gitty feeling from her-but that was when her gaze lifted towards Alistair Blackbourne making his appearance with Effie Campbell. A pinch of sour jealousy burnt within as she sat up slightly from her chair staring at them. She found herself taking the straw out and lifting the bottle to her pale lips drowning her jealous in the wine that tasted like her emotions at the current moment.

Soon staring at the empty bottle Percy was toying with the top of the bottle making it spin around. A small giggle surpassing her lips once more, as she laid along the couch. The best buzzing feeling overcame her which made it feel like all the pain in her hands and mind were gone. When she got bored she rolled back and prompt her legs over the arm of the arm, staring up at the ceiling. Her long hair cascaded over the over cushion on the loveseat she was sitting on.

“Daaaaaaamn those brownies are good, and the wine,” Percy admitted in a hazy manner as her body jerked due to loud hiccups. "Alistair looks nice today..." She admitted quietly to herself in the mushy haze that caught her.

Henry Chen
SEVENTH YEAR HUFFLEPUFF
The party was already well underway when Henry awoke with a start. Blinking the sleep away from his eyes, he wiped the drool off his chin with his sweater. For a moment, as he sat there on his stool, he couldn’t recognize his surroundings. This was certainly not his usual haunt, and it didn’t look like any part of the castle. On one end was what seemed to be a makeshift bar with a moving statue acting as a bartender. There was an abundance of food and drink. Wooden tables and chairs were littered everywhere, enclosing a wide space that was presumably the dance floor. The place was already packed with people, sweaty bodies swaying to music coming from an unknown source. The strong smell of alcohol assaulted his senses.

Realization finally dawned on him when the green-faced boy sitting at the neighbouring table retched into an empty bowl. Eye twitching at the sight, Henry pushed himself up from his seat, deciding he best wander elsewhere.

He had not made it very far when he caught sight of Lauren. A small smile tugged at his lips as he approached the girl, mentally listing the many witty remarks he could throw at her as a greeting.

"Woah, woah, woah, stop, you're torturing the poor guy." He teased, taking the frog from her hands and placing it on her head. "I'll dance with you, alright? Jeez." With that, he offered his hand.

“I wouldn’t call it torture! He loooooves it.” Lauren rebutted in a stubborn manner before giggling softly at Rowan being placed on her head where he normally sits throughout the day. A smile found its way to her cheeks when Henry offered to dance with her. She extended her hand and took his, before noticing Annie sweep by to take Rowan from her head. It didn’t bother Lauren too much that Rowan was toadnapped by the newly appointed Head Girl of Ravenclaw.

A sweet melody began to fill the air around them as Lauren slowly began to step in time with Henry, her left hand in his and right on his arm.The melody was played by a gentle piano and accompanied by a few invisible instruments. “Where’d you learn to dance, Henry?” She couldn’t help but ask in an enchanted manner looking up at her dance partner. In the movement to the music she gave a little spin allowing the flares on her skirt to have a mini Marilyn Monroe moment.

Lauren couldn't wish for anything more that moment. They had been friends for the longest of time, but the incident involving him and a Death Eater on the Hogwarts Express seemed to awaken a deep-rooted feeling within her, feelings that Lauren didn't think she had. For years before he’d been the friend she wanted to get into mischief with and have good times. Although, now she felt her heartbeat pick up pace at the thought of time spent with Henry.

The sweet Hufflepuff rested her head onto her dance partner’s chest as the dancing continued, never stepping out of time with his footing. A sigh of content left her lips at the moment she was sharing with her dear friend. She didn’t think that anything could tear her away from such a happy moment but she was horribly wrong. A swift jerk of her arm pulled her back and out of Henry’s hold. It hurt Lauren to be pulled away in such a rough manner. She rubbed her aching arm looking up at Pedro who stood staring down at her harshly.

“Come on, I think it’s my time to dance with you. Chen can go back to what he’s best at stuffing his face or napping in a corner.” Pedro commented coldly looking at the boy he saw as competition for Lauren’s affections. “You tried, Chen. But it's my turn now.” He spat towards the other boy giving him a disappoving look over before leaning down wrapping his arm around Lauren’s midsection to carry her away from Henry.

She began to struggle kicking and screaming at Pedro. Her small hands went for his hair violently pulling at his silver locks. “Let me go! I don’t want to go with an arsehole like you! I wanted to stay with Henry! He’s a hundred, no, a thousand times better than you!” Lauren protested in a number of curses and insults.

“Fuck sake, Lauren! Why the hell would you want to go back to chinky eyes over there? It’s just disgusting. He’s meant to mix with his own kind.” Pedro continued throwing out slurs before his temper got to its boiling point dropping Lauren on the ground. “You’re a fucking mudblood. You’re damaging yourself further being around the likes of him!” He stopped yelling after seeing the ghostly white face of the girl whose attention he was trying to get.

Her eyes were watering and lips quivering as she stubbornly tried to wipe back tears. “Hen-ry… He’s not doing anything wrong! He’s a good person! Better than you. You’re scum!” Lauren sobbed bitterly looking down at her hands too ashamed to lift her head.
