1975. A time of struggle for muggles and wizards alike. While the cold war is at its height, the wizarding world is faced with a war of its own. The Daily Prophet has reported nothing but bad news as of late. There have been disappearances, murders, dark marks in the sky, and sightings of strange men in masks. Whispers say this is all the work of the Dark Lord, an enemy so formidable no one dares to speak his name.

A dark cloud hangs over Hogwarts, for even its peace has been disturbed. The promise of a new academic year and its would-be adventures are instead shrouded in unspeakable fear. There are those who come to Hogwarts with dark intentions and even darker magic. No one knows who they are. They stay in the shadows, bearing the faces of old friends or foes, whispering, scheming...

In this age of growing racial prejudice, the well-being of half-breeds and muggle borns hang in the balance.

Hogwarts is no longer safe.
Current Chapter 6: A Solemn Supper

Date: Wednesday, October 8 1975
Time: 6pm
Event: Feast at the Great Hall
Weather: Cloudy

Hogwarts opens its great doors once more, though the students that choose to remain are anything but great in number. If, at the beginning of the school year, the halls were flooded with streams of black robes, it is now reduced to a trickle. And what would customarily be an exited hubbub is now uncomfortably quiet, occasionally permeated by whispers of uncertainty and fear.

Something about Hogwarts has changed. Something more than the Chamber of Secrets being opened then closed once again. Something more than the appointment of the new Headmaster Demetrius Creed, whose very existence seems to be shrouded in mystery. Hogwarts itself seems foreboding somehow. Like some dark and evil spirit has possessed its very walls. For the castle towers now stood frowning upon the encroaching students like it loathes for them to come back. There will be no warm welcome, no semblance of a joyous celebration to be had. There is only the beginnings of an omen.

But even in the darkness, there is hope. The two students who fell victim to the Basilisk are now cured and well, even if the trauma remains with them and will haunt their dreams for some time.

Today, they will be rejoining their classmates who, upon their arrival, are immediately ushered into the Great Hall for supper. There, half the former staff awaits them upon their usual seats at the great table, whilst the other half seems to have been replaced by unknown and unwelcoming new faces. The usual seat of the Headmaster is curiously empty.

Jasper gave a dramatic sigh as Joan flashed him the middle finger. "And here i was, thinking we'd actually progressed to the hugging sort," He said with a sarcastic sigh. He tilted his head slightly, watching the dark haired girl walk away.

"IT'S OKAY JOAN! I STILL LOVE YOU, EVEN IF YOU LEAVE ME!!!" He shouted after her, an over exaggerated amount of passion in his tone. With a small sigh he stared up at the sky, hurting far to much to even bother an attempt towards the castle.

"All alone, with just me and my slime," He sang to himself. "I could pick my nose and no one would notice the difference," He said with a snicker, almost tempted to do just that. Instead he just rested an arm over his face and blended in with his surroundings.

Sir Nicholas de Mimsy
- A GMPC POST: Hogwarts Ghost -

Sir Nicholas wandered--or rather, floated--over to the Quidditch Pitch, where he often liked to watch the matches take place. After all, a ghost's life was long and rather uneventful, especially now that, once again, his application for the Headless Hunt had been denied. How many more grueling years until that blasted Delaney-Podmore finally sees some sense? What foolishness this was. His own head was barely hanging by a string!

And as if that wasn't enough to sting his pride, those cursed portraits had been dreadfully secretive as of late. Time and again, he had asked if he could join their little gathering. There was very little source of entertainment for ghosts, you see. But they simply shook their heads, told Sir Nicholas he couldn't join, on the grounds that he wasn't a portrait. Bollocks! Not headless enough for the Headless Hunt, and now this! Well! Sir Nicholas had never been more insulted in his whole second life.

The chattering students on the stands caught his attention. Abruptly, he stopped, faded white ears twitching. So! There was a hunt for those portraits, it seemed. The beginnings of a plan began to form in his shadow of a mind.

"Well now," he tutted, floating over to the group of seventh years. "It seems like you children require some help, yes indeed. Lucky for you, I'm a ghost in this castle. I know quite a few things!" His white mustache twitched with knowing delight. "Ask away, children."

Amelia Blackbourne
- A GMPC POST: DADA Professor -

Before long, Professor Slughorn blundered into the room. At the sight of the veela, he went rather pale and his face was aghast.

"Well, this is just madness!" He cried, hand poised on his wand. "How in Merlin's name did that beast get in here?"

"I don't know, professor," Amelia replied solemnly as she inched closer to the veela, wand in hand. "But a student was injured. She'll need medical attention." Her eyes wandered over to Liz, who still lay unconscious on the floor. Professor Slughorn hurried to the girl immediately. Before long, both he and the unconscious girl were on their way to the infirmary.

Meanwhile, the beast's wings unfurled and disappeared into its back within a matter of seconds. Slowly, the figure became less that of a veela's, and more of a girl's. The face was rather familiar. Amelia felt her mouth drop open in a mixture of both awe and surprise.

"Why, Lynn! I hardly recognised you in that... state." She faltered, lowering her wand now. "Will you tell me what happened, dear? Are you quite alright?"

"Ah fine! I'm fine!" Piper said quickly, feeling like she could die from sheer embarrassment. Here she was repeating herself in her failed attempts at speaking, after falling very ungracefully off the bench. She followed his gaze to the two animals looking more then content with each other. Enough so that her Puffskein felt quite content to vanish off with the kitten nearly every night.

She watched as Pedro sat down on the ground and slowly decided to do the same, sitting herself down across from him, smiling slowly as Meg's walked right up to the sitting boy, rubbing herself against him with just a click of his fingers. A soft little giggle slipped past Piper's lips as she lifted her hand to scratch the kitten between her ears, her purrs making Piper smile more.

"I don't find animal's annoying," She said honestly, the words the clearest she'd spoken since they started speaking. "She's a precious little thing!" She said brightly, turning herself lightly to look at the pair return to each other. She gave another giggle. "Nibble's seem's to like hanging around with the two of you a lot," She said thoughtfully, finding it easier to speak about their pets, rather then form an actual conversation. She turned back to Pedro, offering him a bright smile.

Oliver Whitefang

For a brief moment, Oliver was surprised to see Sanguine in this blundering, embarrassed state. As if it wasn't a regular occurrence with her when things remotely got somewhat emotional. He was almost elated to see it in fact. He felt a sudden rush, a brief flicker of hope. Could it possibly be that she was jealous? Before he could stop himself, he said:

"Why weren't you happy with me... and her?" He wondered, his expression now genuinely curious. It was one of those moments where he didn't think to tease; he just blurted out his thoughts as soon as they came. But then he regretted it the instant he said it. It was because it upset Liz, silly! He chided himself internally.

Yet, he waited for Sanguine's answer, still hoping.

School hallway, chasing a portrait
"A shame," Elliot mused to himself as he inspected the drawing and the imperfect lines and shading, definitely unacceptable, he'd have to work on it further once he found his portrait friend once more. He tilted his head in a bird-like gesture as he looked at Leo then back down at his book. "I've done far better," He said decidedly as he snapped the book shut and tucked it back into his pocket.

"I suppose I should give you a compliment now," He said in what he believed was a kind way. He looked the other boy over with a thoughtful expression. "You jacket is very well worn," He said with a nod and a delighted smile. "Does this make us friends now? We've shared pleasantries have we not?" He asked eagerly.

"Oh! Where running now! Very well!" He said running after Leo without hesitation, briefly wondering if he ran fast enough would be able to go right through the wall, or if it was ever possible to go so fast and end up being unable to stop one's self.

"THEY'RE VERY EASY QUESTIONS!!" He called, deciding to join Leo's plan of chase and shout. Even if the possibilities of success didn't seem very high.

Deborah Johnson
SEVENTH YEAR RAVENCLAW
After taking a quick shower, Debbie decided she would wander outside instead of heading to the library. It was Sunday, after all. She had the rest of the week to study. For now, she would crack open a book for some light reading.

She didn't reach very far into the courtyard when she spotted something rather... curious up atop a tree. Squinting her eyes, Debbie took a long hard look at the strange girl.

"Hello!" She greeted, only just now realizing the face was familiar. It was one of those sixth year Slytherins, but at the moment Debbie couldn't quite place her name. "What are you doing up there? That's an interesting place to do some reading..."

Juniper moved back, deciding she'd keep watch to make sure they weren't disturbed. She wouldn't handle another fall back well at all. Beside's it was pleasing to watch her darker half at work. She arched a pale brow as the Gaunt girl who resisted to power of their dark lord. Her resistance something that yet again surprised her. Something she needed to stop making a habit of.

She released a breath of amazement as the chamber entrance glided open with the groan of stone on stone. She flashed a brief, worried gaze over her shoulder at the bathroom entrance, concerned the sound would draw attention to them. But no one tried to get in or even sounded like they were approaching. She turned back around, seeing Gaunt drop down into the hole then Morrigan.

She didn't like not being able to join her lover. Not just for the pleasure of seeing the chamber but because the Gaunt girl was continuously surprising them. Breaking the imperious curse on one's self wasn't exactly unheard of, not to mention the fact that there were some enchantments that could actually eliminate the spells affects.

She started pacing, her mind processing every possibility, something she found herself doing when she was...concerned...was she concerned for Morrigan...yes, yes she was. So it seemed her aunt hadn't washed away all the weak feelings within her. Though she supposed that was something she'd noticed before when Quinn had actually become a deeper part of her life.

As if summoned by her thoughts, Morrigan burst into the bathroom, catching her hand and dragging Juniper behind her in an unexpected hurry. "There was no complications?" She asked, following after the other girl. "We still need to kill the roosters," She said as she was lead further away from the bathroom and the Gaunt girl, who she hadn't seen return.

"We can't risk out plan's being destroyed by a chicken," She said in a serious tone. She wouldn't let their plan's fail over something so small.

ALISTAIR BLACKBOURNE

Raising an eyebrow, Alistair watched Victoria walk away, utterly confused. What was it with women and their temperamental natures? He shook his head, retrieving his wand from his sleeve. It was a new wand. Or rather, it was newly bequeathed to him. But its history was old, old as time could be. It was an heirloom passed from generation to generation of Blackbournes, for its make was rare--a basilisk's skin. Now that he had lost his previous wand, his grandfather thought it was the perfect time to hand down the heirloom as an early birthday present. But Alistair found it unwieldy if anything.

He missed his old wand.

"What exactly is going on here? I am Head Boy! Stop!" He yelled at the quickly moving figure in the portraits, holding his wand threateningly in front of it. "Or I will burn that portrait into ashes."

The hoary old man halted immediately, his white beard quivering. "Oh, mercy, mercy..."

Though the portraits could not be harmed technically, even when set aflame, they were still terrified for their lives when threatened. Something Alistair was quite glad for, or else they might never be captured during moments like this, when it was necessary.

Before Joan could get any further, Jasper began to whine like a baby begging for attention. The girl stopped in her tracks, one eyebrow raised, then watched the pity party unfold before her. It was amusing, she had to give him that, even though she was still annoyed at the twins for what they had done. Or rather attempted to do.

"Shut up, loser," Joan rolled her eyes as she strode back, holding out a hand for Jasper. "And keep your pants on will you? Don't be gross."

William followed Rory as he led him away from the library. Part of him still wanted to ask what he had meant about the whispers but ultimately he decided against it. Like Rory said -- they had their own mystery to solve. He couldn't offer much help if he was busy worrying about other things. The only thing he hated about his low self esteem was the fact that it sometimes interfered with his education, and that was something Will couldn't afford to tolerate. Just like he couldn't afford to let it hinder him while he was trying to just have a good time with one of his few friends.

At Rory's riddle, Will gave it a bit of thought, but really the answer was quite clear. "Ghosts," he said, turning briefly to the redhead beside him. Only the ghosts roaming in Hogwarts could walk through walls and loiter around, so Rory was on the right track. He nodded when the other male mentioned checking the Quidditch pitch.

"I'd probably get books," Will said with a small smile, his mind already drifting toward which ones he would buy. He always had a list of titles he found interesting and when he got the chance -- and when he finished what he already had to read -- he would go out and buy them. That way he was never idle, nor was his mind idle.

"What about you?" He asked as they neared the Quidditch pitch.

eloise 'lou' middleton

Lou pouted when Davi expressed that this whole scene was entertaining. Well, she knew it was, and it was all teasing, but more often than not, when Lou had no way of defending herself with words, she tried to pout and bat her baby blues in the hopes that it would sway people in her favour. It did not always work, of course, and both Davi and Henry knew her too well by now to be tricked by something like that, but it was something she did anyway.

Her pout soon turned upside down when Henry turned on Davi as well, and she chuckled slightly, after having been carried off the top of the bench to now stand on the floor. She had been shorter than Davi even then, but at least on the bench she was a bit more closer to Henry's height. Now she was back to being towered over.

But, on the bright side, she now had flavoured beans. "Thaaaank you," she said in a sing-song voice before grabbing the packet and picking up a few colours she vaguely recognised. Not that it mattered. They were still usually different flavours anyway. Currently, she popped in a rather spicy one and she was fanning her mouth a bit as Henry continued to talk about the missing portraits.

"Well yeah I suppose that's plausible," Lou nodded in agreement, following both seventh years down the stairs. "I can't imagine sitting in one portrait all day and having to just watch people go by."

She was about to say more when their group of three was suddenly approached by another. Well, not another student, but rather a familiar ghost. Lou's eyebrow raised in curiosity when she heard what he had to say, and then she was practically bouncing on the balls of her feet. "Oh! Do you know what happened to the portraits then, Sir Nicholas?" If the ghosts knew nothing, Lou doubted anyone else would.

Rosa smiled softly at the Hufflepuff, gathering herself up to stand from the pillows. Taking another peak at her finished nails, she began to blow on them gently to try help them dry faster. She would prefer they not get ruined any time soon. After a few moments, she let her hands drop to her sides with a huff, a yawn tumbling from her lips. Seemingly, they had been in here a while.

Watching Lauren twirl, Rosa clapped her hands lightly in applause. She found seeing the other happiness enjoyable – it often spurring her own sense of content and joy. Feelings she rarely felt around others as most got on her nerves. “You look wonderful, Lauren.” Rosa cooed with a gentle sigh. “I’m sure having…one small, unmatching feature will be okay. It’ll be worth it to cheer you on and I'm sure I can make it work somehow.” She added, looping arms with Lauren as they left the room of requirement. Quickly enough, apathy settled back onto her features though the warmth in her gaze never faded. “I’m sure it will annoy other Slytherin’s, so that is a bonus as well.” The Slytherin mused, finding the possible outcome of her new decoration a possible advantage to her goal of amusing herself with another’s irritation.

“I do think you should just tell the idiot though.” Rosa continued out of the blue, glancing to the other witch with a curiously, raised brow. “If anything, I’m sure we could hunt him down and you can speak to him now, if you feel okay to? I will drag off whoever he is with, if need be.”

Leontios kept his gaze focused upon the moving man between the portraits, his shouts for him to stop still echoing in the halls and drawing the attention of unaware students lurking around. His speed never decreased, he only ran faster as if speed alone would cause his target to cease and stop for questioning. “HEEEY OLD DUDE WAIT PLEASE. THEY ARE REALLY EASY QUESTIONS COME O- “

Paying for his lack of attention and care, Leontios found himself colliding with another body and his speed forcing him to tumble forwards. He hit the floor on his side when he was unable to regain his balance, causing him to groan in pain as he grits his teeth. Seemingly, getting hurt or in trouble was a reoccurring event since the start of the academic year – first the train, then the head girl and detention and now he slammed into some poor student and already, his arm was throbbing with a dull pain from when he landed on it.

Now, Leontios found he could add the head boy to his troubles at Hogwarts so far. His eyes widened as he hurriedly got himself to his feet though one arm was held loosely at his side. “Oooh man…” He muttered to himself before moving forwards, holding the arm he did not land on out for the head boy to help him up, a frown on his lips. “I am so sorry! I wasn’t exactly looking – I was chasing the old geezer here and…well…I ran…into…you…”

SEVENTH YEAR RAVENCLAW
"That would be my little secret," Rory winked at the boy. Naturally, he would spend all that money on the newspaper club and on intel. Knowledge was worth more than a few galleons. Especially knowledge that involved other people. It was a fine trade, indeed. Exchanging coins for precious information that ought to be worth for a lot more. But people often don't know the worth of the information they held in their hands.

Soon enough, they were at the Quidditch Pitch. Sir Nicholas was there, as Rory had expected. A few other students seemed to have caught on, too, but that didn't matter. Rory couldn't care less about the game or some prize. He simply had nothing better to do at the moment, and what better way to waste his time than to entertain his little pet for a bit?

"Yes, Sir Nicholas, do share," He quipped.

Of all the scenarios her mind conjured, what Oliver said next fit with none of them. She had awaited some overly dramatic act from her childish friend or some more sappy apologies being passed between the two of them. Though the idea of the latter made her want to gag – she hated all this sappy crap. Nearly any other emotion was far easier. Well, anger was. For a moment or two she just stared at Oliver, though seemed barely present in herself as she tried, for a moment, to work out if this was real. Did she seriously have to explain herself? How in hell did she do that without sounding stupid!

As if suddenly snapped back to attention, Sanguine blinked rapidly a few times before a jumble of unintelligible words fell from her lips. “I…urm…. You seeee….” Feeling her hands tremble with nerves, Sanguine hurriedly folded her arms tightly across her chest to keep them still. When no excuses came to mind, her expression morphed into one of exasperation and then nerves, once again. Resigning to her fate and the possible loss of friendship she imagined, Sanguine continued to speak though this time, it was understandable though quite fast, “I wasn’t happy because…because it made me jealous! I mean your one of my best friends and you...and her! I don’t get it and I don’t get entirely why I got upset – okay, well I do but still! I just…It annoys me! A lot! Because I’ve liked you for so long and then this…” Trailing off, Sanguine buried her face in her hands, a muffled growl of annoyance following. “I like you, okay!”

It took her a second to compose herself, a hand pushing bright red locks from her face as the other fell back to her side. A frown marred her lips as she turned to look at the wall – hating what would come out of her lips next. “I…I don’t want to ruin us being friends though…I mean, if you don’t like me back its fine. I expected that…just, we can’t stop being best friends though.”

Hearing the voices of the teachers near her Lynn slowly seemed to wind down. Her wings retreated more and soon she felt her body returning to its normal state. Lynn couldn't imagine what people were thinking. Hell, she herself was so lost in her head that she wasn't even listening to what they said. However, hearing Amelia's voice as she approached Lynn snapped back. "What?" Lynn spoke softly. "I..." Lynn fell silent and just let her head rest against the ground.

"She... shes crazy." Lynn mumbled out. "She crushed my necklace." Lynn said before starting to cry. "It was the only thing I had from my mom." Lynn only then began to feel the weight of what she had just said. Having lost something as important to her as that broke her. Unable to contain herself anymore Lynn began to cry her eyes out. While many have seen Lynn cry before this was something else. It was like the girl had seriously lost something and at this point she was beyond consoling.

"Fucking hell." Tasha felt a warm liquid and wondered if his brain was seeping from his cranium. Realizing that his whole body was actually covered in this goop, he groaned with his back against the floor. He had seen Cyrus falling, and the cost of withdrawing his wand a second later was a ringing concussion. The twins continued to bicker while Tasha laid there, focusing on seeing through stars.

"Hey." He muttered dryly, and reluctantly sat up to grab Cyrus’ arm. Fortunately for her, he had no sadistic tendencies. “Brackium Emendo.”

A flash of light radiated from his wand and he flicked it towards her broken wrist. Tasha stared up at her and tucked his wand into his jacket pocket. "Better?"

The cease of her arm caught the bickering Grey off guard, when she turned around to see Tasha a flush of red warmed her cheeks. “Uh, hi.” She mumbled with a slight surprise edging at the tip of her tone. Mousy brown eyes looked at her dear friend with curiosity at the drawing of his wand, watching the light come from his wand pointed at her broken wrist the girl smiled at his kindest.

Rolling her wrist in circular moments, Cyrus was happy to admit now that the pain was gone and everything was better. “Yeah, much better. Thanks, Tash.” The Australian’s face lit up looking to her occasional partner in crime, before reaching up sliding some bright green slime off him that looked like large chunky booger. Her gaze held an almost look of disgust for a moment, it was gross beyond words the pile the stuff had made on the Quidditch Pitch.

“Oppies?” Cy said with a shrug looking to her best friend with the look of: well, shit happens.

As he stood, Tasha removed his slime covered jacket and flicked a spray of goo in her direction. “That’s enough out of you two children.” He smirked and raised his arms to defend himself of possible retaliation. Facing the direction of the field, Tasha cupped his hands by the sides of his mouth and took a deep breath.

“JOAN, JASPER… GET THE FUCK OUTTA HERE.”

“Children? Who are you callin’ a child, Wolfe?” Cyrus asked offering him a questionable gaze towards her dear friend. Watching his hands raise in a manner to stop further arguments only seemed to make the girl cock a brow. “You’re an arsehole, and I hope you know that.” She finished before blocking her ears to the bellowing shout that escaped Tasha’s almost too perfect and kissable lips.

Meeting her dark eyes, Tasha dropped his dopey grin and shut his smart mouth. He could feel her gaze on his lips, and his cheeks began to warm. Instinctively, Tasha raised his hand over his face to hide his embarrassment. “I know.” He admitted weakly and turned again to the mass of goo on the field.

It was a given. Friendship with the twins meant an endless amount of clean up duty. Mandatory detention was only a few weeks ago, and he wasn’t too keen on serving hours getting slime off the field. Hell no, he’d rather haul ass than get caught for another prank of theirs. Placing his hands on her shoulders, Tasha began to push Cyrus in the direction of the exit doors. “Go, go, go!”

Being pushed towards the pitch’s exit and through the field leading back to Hogwart the girl grumbled. Stubbornly pulling more weight into her back were Tasha pushed to make life a little more difficult on his part. Before finally giving in halfway to campus when the pushes began to hurt a little.

“So… We’re running away before the professors find the mess we’ve made or something?” The Australian asked her American counterpart with an almost questioning glance. Her manner showing that she was almost proud of the chaos she caused with her twin: even if they were caught in it too.

Tasha found comfort in walking behind her where she couldn’t see his troubled expression. He avoided meeting her questioning glance and continued to focus on regaining his composure around his best friend.
“As much as I adore your pranks,” He said, and released his grip from her shoulders with a wicked smile. “I thought we could spend some time together.. without the cleaning.”

Cyrus thought about his words pursing her lips together, before a smile tugged at her cheeks. “How about we have some fun with that?” She winked playfully, before resting her hands on the top of her head. “Some fun and fifty gallons as a reward.” The Gryffindor commented with a devilish smirk tugging her cheeks.

Jasper lifted his arm from over his eyes, looking up at the very clean Gryffindor above him. "I knew you cared deep down," He said with a playful wink. He gratefully grasped her hand with his slime covered one, using more of her help then his own strength to get to his feet. His lower back and legs screamed in pain as he stumbled slightly into her.

"Oh look, I'm sharing, that's a first," He said with a joking smile, the slime covering him having splatted against Joan when he stumbled into her. "Turns out i didn't need to drop my pants after all," He said, looping an arm over her shoulder since he was pretty sure he'd face plant if left to stand alone. "Sorry to disappoint you," He said with a glint of humour in his eyes, he gave her shoulder a light squeeze. It was very clear to him suddenly, that he was using his not so great humour as a cover up for his not so fun feeling body, a body that wasn't helping him take Tasha's advice.

Victoria was lost in the book as she read thoroughly and in depth. When a voice drafted up to her ears, she closed it slowly and looked around. She been comfortable, her stomach on a large limb and her legs up as she read. Her eyes trailed down to the curious voice that had inquired about her. A dark look resides in her eyes. A dark twinkle in her sharp ice blue gaze. She slowly sat up balancing on the tree branch as she put the book away. “You answered your own question. I was reading, what did it look like, I was mind melding with the book, now that be the day. Make studying for tests much easier.”Victoria said and slipped down from her perch to the ground.

“What never needed to get away from the world to read? Most people don't look up and I can normally read and study in peace. However that is no longer the case.” Victoria said in slight cold tone. She noticed the girl, she knew her some Seventh year Ravenclaw student. What was she doing out here bugging her. She noticed she had a book and sighed. “Looks like you were going to read. The tree is free for use, try it, more comfortable than you would think. Most of the time people won't bother you or even notice you exist. Which is perfect place to think, plot and scheme ones next move.”Victoria looked up at the tree with a sigh. She had been so enjoying the read and the notes she was taking. Now she wondered where Damon that sneaky boy was. He hadn't contacted her on anything. He was supposed to come to her when he had information had she misplaced her trust in the half blood. She shook her head of the thought.

Her hand tugged at the sleeves that threatened to ride up to reveal the one thing that could get her expelled. “Well Good chatting I guess, should be off.” Victoria told her. Now her mind had wandered to wear that no good snake Morgan and Juniper were at, also what they were up to.
