IN A TIME WHERE racial discrimination is rampant and the Cold War is at its height, an ominous force looms over the wizarding world. Despite efforts to keep them apart, the magical and the mundane nonetheless overlap and bleed influence into each other. Muggles grapple with political and military disarray, while the wizarding community is faced with an enemy so formidable it is only ever mentioned in whispers: they call him the Dark Lord, and his followers, the Death Eaters.

Such is the influence of this rising group of supremacists that even Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, rumoured to be one of the safest places in the world next to Gringotts, cannot remain unperturbed for long. A new academic year has begun, and as students both young and old pour into the school's ancient halls, whispers of an unspeakable terror reigning within campus grounds abound. A group of pureblood supremacists, armed with dark intentions and even darker magic, now stand at the helm of the school. The well-being of half-breeds and muggle-borns alike hang in the balance.

Hogwarts is no longer safe.
Current Event -- Chapter 1: The Three Broomsticks
Date: Monday, September 1, 1975

A NEW SCHOOL YEAR is starting. While some look around anxiously, especially the muggleborns, who scream when they run through the wall towards Platform 9 3/4, others are more confident in their way around. Especially the seventh years who are looking forward to start their last year in Hogwarts.

Between the worried parents with well-meant advice, the pets that managed to escape and the bulks of baggage, a plan is brewing between the seniors. As the students wave off their parents and take their seats inside the Hogwarts Express, a flyer is passed between them.

It is laced with a special charm much alike the one used at the Halloween party from last year, however, this year only the seventh years are invited and the rest are left in the dark.

So, just like the invitation states the seniors sneak out of their dorms after the banquet. When everyone is asleep, or assumed to be, they make their way through the dark to Hogsmeade. There at the Three Broomsticks Inn, a party waits for them; they are starting the school year with a blast!

August Yilmaz

Location: Hogsmeade; Three Broomsticks Inn

"Come on, piano man, it will be fun," Thomas told him, pushing his roommate forward. The bunch of Ravenclaw roommates had decided to sneak out of their rooms and break the rules on the first day of school. It was their senior year after all, and they had to make the most of it. What other way to do such but by attending a big party organised for the graduates?

Even August couldn't deny that he didn't feel a bit excited to start his last year by spending a night in Hogsmeade. They would be busy throughout the rest of the year, attempting to graduate, trying to get their lives in order, deciding for their futures. The thought saddened him, as he wondered how many of his friends would remain in contact after that their time in Hogwarts ended. It was silly not to expect everyone going their separate ways. They all had their own passions.

"Yo, earth to August," Thomas waved at the foreigner a little impatiently. What August did to deserve all these impatient people in his life was beyond him, but the boy turned his eyes towards the brunette. "I was asking if you were going to jam some tunes for us at the Broomsticks," he continued, seemingly expecting that he would say yes. The Turk smiled crookedly, musing over the thought a little before shrugging his shoulders. "Let's see how the evening goes," was his reply, not making any promises to play. It promised to be a fun night, with drinking and lots of noisy students. The Ravenclaw would need an appreciating ear nearby first before he would want to play. After all, playing to help his friends get some swing with the girls wasn't exactly his passion, nor was gaining any of that attention himself.

Upon approaching the inn August could see quite a few classmates standing outside, chatting and laughing as they held a glass of butterbeer in hands. He assumed that they must have escaped the crowd by standing outside, as inside the atmosphere was clammy, as the pub was known for. "So, what is the plan?" Dean asked, his dark eyes shifting over the crowd, eager to mingle. August sighed at his curly haired friend, a little disappointed at how he seemed to only have eyes to score.

"I don't know. Maybe get some drinks while I find a place to sit down at," he remarked quasi-sarcastic. He was serious about wanting to find a place to sit and chill. However his friend understood it in a different way, as the approving punch to his arm suggested. "Grand idea, Yilmaz, you go appease some of the ladies with your looks and we will join in later with the drinks," Dean exclaimed, quickly pulling Thomas with him as they disappeared towards the bar. Confused August just rose a brow at the lost figures, figuring that this meant that he would get an extra glass for himself. How disappointed Dean would be if he were to find out.

However, his mission to find a quiet and lonely table proved to be difficult. Most of the seats and places were occupied, as more carried the idea to chatter away their hours in a corner. August was almost turning desperate enough to actually look for the piano, and abide to the wishes of Thomas, when he finally noticed a familiar face somewhere tucked away. With luck and no surprise the appearance of this person even came with empty seats near.

Approaching the figure of Raina Summers, though he was sure both roommates would complain in choosing her as female company, August was satisfied with having a seat and a sound mind. "Good evening, mind if I take a seat he--" he had approached the female with a smile, but soon froze in his speech and expressions as he realised the company Raina was with.

"Hello to the both of you. Raina. Van Reeden," August recovered himself, greeting the both, but with less enthusiasm than before and more tension. Madison and he had a history going on, one that the Ravenclaw blamed himself for. It had ruined a fine friendship, but there was little that the both of them could do to recover that. Surely, they had talked, gone over their problems last year, but it still hung thick in the air whenever they met. However, the pressure of their past was never relieved, which was what caused the seemingly cold greeting.

ALISTAIR BLACKBOURNE

ALISTAIR HADN'T REALISED how hungry he had become and was half-tempted to beg a brownie off Anice, but the sight of his twin brother distracted him. Zed didn't seem to notice him though. The male was a bit too preoccupied with something else. In fact, Zed was so distracted that he did not see Alistair at all, even as he was already standing right in front of him. "Hey, have you seen a ginger cat—" Zed stopped midway when it finally dawned on him who he was talking to. "Merlin! It's you! I finally found you Ali!"

"Do I look like a cat to you?" Alistair snarked, still bitter over what had happened earlier. The fact that Zed seemed to have forgotten all about it only served to annoy him more. His face had lit up like a kid's at Christmas, happily ignorant as ever.

"Wait. Slytherin head girl," Zed gestured towards Anice. "Slytherin head boy," he turned towards Alistair. "Both heads at a party," he said with an incredulous gasp. "Am I seeing things, or is the world coming to an end?"

Anice simply laughed at that, mentioning how she hoped the Gryffindor wasn't trying to get himself into trouble again. In the meanwhile, Alistair simply gave his brother a look. "You brought me here. Or did you forget?" He sighed, annoyance creeping into his tone. Sometimes Zed's cluelessness hurt. "Besides, isn't it the same for you? You are the Gryffindor Head Boy, yes? Oh wait—" He continued his passive-aggressive counter, faking innocence as he did. However, he felt a slight pang of guilt as soon as the words left his mouth. Anxious he might have been, but his brother did not in any way deserve all these snide remarks. Alistair gave a forced and rather belated smile, inwardly scrambling for the mask he had so carelessly abandoned. What he'd just said was nothing more than harmless banter, or so he tried to convince himself. All he could do now was hope that nobody noticed just how much he'd meant for those words to hurt when he'd said them.

OOC: Hey everyone! So, I noticed a bit of a problem when it comes to multiple character interactions. Posts get long-winded because everyone tries to react to everything, which just creates a slew of problems like time paradoxes. It is just really confusing overall. Let's try to keep posts short during interactions and have our characters reply to only the most relevant stuff. That way we can avoid these nasty paradoxes and get the conversation moving faster! :D

Melinda Geralds

Hogsmeade; Senior party
Melinda couldn't hide the feelings of delight on her face, her lips turning up into a foxy smile as she watched Anice squirm because of her teases. She never had been one who was able to hide her emotions well, especially if she was having a moment at the expense of others. It was one of the reasons why she was never invited for pranks.

"Hey, have you seen a ginger cat--" Zed interrupted the flow. Melinda was surprised that he wasn't asking for his brother first, especially so when the Gryffindor loudly exclaimed to finally find his brother. The snark that Alistair returned was a well deserved one in her opinion for that reason. He had been standing next to his brother when he asked for the cat, after all. If she had been standing in Ali's shoes Melinda would have felt offended as well. He was soon forgiven, however, when he proceeded to loudly exclaim his surprise at Anice's presence. Scoffing at the male Melinda couldn't help but smile at him; good old Zed.

"The only thing coming to an end is your wit," Anice returned, having gathered her own wits back. Melinda grinned at how everyone seemed to be revelling in Zed's antics. He had definitely set himself up for that one.

"You brought me here. Or did you forget?" Alistair reminded the male, sounding increasingly annoyed with his twin. Wondering what has him so upset over being dragged to the party Melinda turned an eye at him, eyebrow raised as he continued in one smooth flow. "Besides, isn't it the same for you? You are the Gryffindor Head Boy, yes? Oh wait—"

A jab in Melinda's chest brought her elevated mood crashing down into the grounds, her eyes squinting slightly as she wondered what Ali's intent had been there. Failing to become the Gryffindor Head girl was one of the most vocal reminders of her own constant failures. Both Zed and she had failed to grab hold onto the position despite being prefects the year before. However, did the Slytherin say this deliberately to rub in the salt, or was it an awry joke? The girl wanted to give him the benefit of the doubt, but her mind was convincing her otherwise.

Laughing awkwardly Melinda wrapped her arms around her chest, pulling her sleeves over her hands. "Senior year does feel like the end of the world, no?" she started, trying to lighten up the mood after the remark. She felt cold, despite the cramped temperature within the bar. However, she told herself to proceed, to endure and fight against herself. She had to.

"I'm excited to see what will happen after we graduate," she continued, babbling off as she mused over whatever the future could look like. Melinda couldn't wait for graduation to come around, but at the same time she felt terrified at the thought of setting out on her own. It was a double feeling, but not uncommon, she knew.

ZEDEKIAH BLACKBOURNE
Location The Three Broomsticks
His little exclamation of surprise of seeing the two heads had earned him a light slap on the hand from Anice, a scoff and a smile from Mel, and a laugh from Ali. He couldn't help but grin at their reactions. It was always a heartening sight for him to see his dearest friends happy.

"The only thing coming to an end is your wit. I hope you're not getting yourself into any trouble," Anice had remarked. Zed's grin turned devious at her motherly words. "Don't worry mother. No troubles following me... yet." He teased back and said the last bit in a loud whisper. There were no pranks and whatnot that could get him in trouble up his sleeves this time--though perhaps, the cat he'd brought in with him may bring him trouble. Unfortunately, Zed had seemingly forgotten the small creature he'd brought in as he stayed where he was with his merry little group of friends.

The party was starting to look up for Zed as he was beginning to have fun, but it all came crashing down at Ali's next words. "You brought me here. Or did you forget?" he begun with a sigh. Zed didn't think much of this and was still happily grinning. Ali's sighs were nothing new to him. Growing up, he gave his brother many reasons to sigh--especially when it came towards him not understanding the simplest of things. It was what came next that truly struck him.

"Besides, isn't it the same for you? You are the Gryffindor Head Boy, yes? Oh wait—"

Zed felt the atmosphere around them immediately change in that moment. The happy little grin on Zed's face instantly vanished. It wasn't hard to tell how Zed felt, he was always one to wear his heart on his sleeve. Hurt was written all over his face as he began to chew on his lower lip and cast his eyes downwards to the butterbeer in his hand. Him not becoming head boy despite being prefect the previous year had always been a sore subject for him. He was so happy when he was made prefect, happy that he finally did something to make their grandfather be proud of him. It was hard having to tell his grandfather how he didn't become the head boy for Gryffindor. The old man said no words, but the scoff he gave him said it all. It didn't help that his younger brother--who wasn't a prefect the year before--became head boy for Slytherin this year. Zed was happy for Ali, but it was yet one more thing to add to the list of 'reasons why Ali is the better twin.'

In his mind, he was convinced that what Ali said was meant to be nothing more than banter, yet he can't seem to pull himself out of the void of self-pity which had been started. An awkward laugh from Mel seemed to do the trick as Zed finally glanced up from his drink to look at his fellow Gryffindor. He wasn't the sharpest tool in the shed, but even he could recognise from the girl's body language that she was feeling uncomfortable with the direction that the conversation had gone (as if the awkward laugh wasn't telling enough).

"Senior year does feel like the end of the world, no? I'm excited to see what will happen after we graduate," she went on, trying to break the tension that had been formed. Putting an end to his little pity party, Zed took a huge gulp from the butterbeer in his hand and then grinned, not noticing the froth that now clung to his upper lip like a moustache. "Can't wait to marry my brother, Mel?" he then turned to look at his brother "What about you Ali? Ready to be wed to the hair-pulling midget?" Zed teased the two like he normally did, acting as if nothing had fazed mere him moments ago.

♠ The Three Broomsticks ♠
First day of the last year of school. The last year....

Avery was late to the party. Like all of his other classmates, he had received an enchanted invitation to the senior party. The Halloween party last year had taught him something - there was more information to be gained by attending events such as these than by avoiding them. It had also taught him what he had rather suspected from the start, which was that he did not enjoy parties. Chaos could be fun. Observing his classmates get steadily drunker and trying to stay out of the way of people pointlessly picking fights, on the other hand, was the kind of reconnaissance that would be best compared to pulling teeth: painful, slow, and boring. He had, at some point, gotten into the awkward dancing, but it had still been awkward. An overall disastrous night for most parties involved, if he recalled correctly. It had taken a bit of considering for him to finally decide to head out. Then he'd gotten caught by Xavier as he'd tried to leave the dorm. Sometimes he wished that particular person would avoid him like the others, not that Xavier was going to tattle on him or anything. If anything, his obnoxious roommate had snidely congratulated him for graduating from "joyless stuffed shirt." Of course he'd been heading toward the party as well, so Avery had made a trip to the bathroom just to give the other boy a chance to leave before him.

His grey eyes remained impassive as he trudged through the cold to finally reach the door of the establishment. He opened the door to the Three Broomsticks Inn and the warm air assaulted the little bit of skin left exposed. Although he hadn't dressed exactly warmly, with his comfy large coat and the scarf he'd fastened around his mouth and nose, only the top of his face had really suffered. He gently pulled the black leather gloves from his hands and unwrapped the scarf with his long, tapering fingers. It found itself tucked away into an inner pocket in his coat along with the gloves. Before he could look around for something to do, however, he felt something wind its way around his feet. He looked down to see a cat with a ginger coat purring and threading its way affectionately around his legs. Perhaps this party wouldn't be so bad after all. He reached down and picked the cat up with a small, gentle smile.

Without really thinking about it, he began to rake his fingers gently against its back, stroking its fur even as he took to a wall and surveyed the people around him. This party at least seemed a great deal tamer than the Halloween fiasco had been, despite all the usual troublemakers being present. Some he had expected, such as Scriven and the short-haired Blackbourne twin. Others were less expected, like Summers and Runeswell. He supposed Runeswell may have come to keep an eye on the proceedings, though he rather remembered her being part of the problem last time. The younger Blackbourne was easier to explain. If his twin was here, the other Slytherin was here for him. Summers, though, was wholly unexplainable. As was Yilmaz, to some extent. He thought about it for a bit, still stroking the cat like it was his, and decided it would be more interesting to join the little group forming around Raina than to try to integrate himself elsewhere. He was determined to interact this time. Staying in the shadows and watching had been part of the boredom last time.

He stepped away from where he'd been leaning against the wall and approached them a little after August had made his slightly awkward hellos. With no more than a, "Hello," as a passing greeting to the three of them, he sat himself down a couple seats away from them, turning in his seat so he could comfortably watch the rest of the room. He plopped the cat in his lap and it gave a loud, whiny mreow, pawing at one hand. He stared down at it and a sparkle lit his eyes. It was giving him a positively regal look of demand, as if to say, What are you stopping for, fool?

♣ The Three Broomsticks ♣
"Stella. What are we doing here?"

"We're attending a party, obviously." The blonde Hufflepuff entered the Three Broomsticks with absolutely no hesitation, despite the obvious apprehensions of her pet salamander. He was especially cross with her because of his literally cold blood. Being dragged out into the cold after the sun had set on their very first day of school was not exactly his idea of fun. The salamander groaned and dug himself a little deeper into the refuge of her coat, even despite their having finally made it inside. "Oh what is it? Is our dearest Robert Ognyan Prince scared of a little cold?" She teased him. She'd stopped pretending she wasn't talking to her pet after that incident in third year. If she was going to be outed as a half-breed, might as well run with it.

He popped his head out of her jacket and retorted, "It's not as though you get anything out of this party, anyways. You're not exactly anyone's favorite."

"Oh shutup, Bob." She said, cheerfully, poking his head back into her jacket and swinging her umbrella in a careless circle, nearly smacking one of the servers, whom she promptly snatched a mug of butterbeer from. Like she needed reminding that she was nobody's favorite. Bob could be a bit of a wet blanket even when he wasn't grumpy, but she hadn't been sure if she could convince Charlotte to come and wasn't about to go alone. Besides, she had as much right to be here as anyone else, and the first person to say otherwise would get her umbrella in their stupid mouth. That said, she couldn't really find anyone who would be happy to have her, she realized morosely. There was the ever-popular Sabrina Gallagher sitting next to Garaile Scriven, a group of those purebloods gathered together in their special "we're purebloods" clique, and then her nemesis sitting aside the... other roommate. A sense of loneliness and isolation temporarily had Stella biting her lip anxiously, but she shook it off.

Taking a large swig of her butterbeer, she plopped herself down in a seat, the cold metal tip of her umbrella clacking against the ground as she carelessly propped it up against the table. Her large blue eyes looked around for anyone she might be able to talk to. Instead, she found herself sitting across another known half-breed, a half-giant named Maurice who looked as though his puppy had just been whipped or something. Oh dear, this was going to turn itself into the half-breed table, wasn't it? She took a long look at his gloomy face and that was it. Less than five minutes into the night, and it already seemed ready to become a depressing disaster. With a loud "UGGGHHHH," she flopped her head down against the table right in front of Maurice, letting her blonde hair dramatically cover her face.

"I told you..."

"Oh shutup, Bob." She repeated, grumpily.

Madison would be lying if she said she didn't miss the witty comebacks from Summers. The brunette shook her head with a chuckle escaping her lips at Raina's response to her teasing. "Not really. Despite all that happens humans have a bad case of perseverance. Apparently, that also extends to their social life. How much do you want to bet they came to leave a better impression? Not in Blackbourne's case maybe. But someone who had to deal with what Geralds had to deal with would be eager to turn over a new leaf and Runeswell probably just wants to redeem her reputation. It's funny how much an opinion of a stranger can either make us or break us."

Madi tilted her head at Raina as she gave her a whimsical look. What was with the sudden deepness of the conversation? Madi was just making a joke here and there. She certainly wasn't expecting Raina to go all philosophical on her. Especially not at a party. Maybe this was why she didn't go out much. It was kind of adorable in a way like she understood the social awkwardness in her and found it cute. Then again it was also a tad bit of a mood killer. If Madi really wanted to think deeply about why her friends were here she would've proposed so.

Still, what Summers was saying wasn't wrong. Taking into consideration the uproar over Runswell and Gerald's both, it was quite an accurate deduction. Though Madi was certain that Mel Mel wouldn't be doing this for anyone other than herself. Not in a bad way but simply for the fact that Madi knew how stubborn she was and if Mel Mel decided she wanted to change it would be to prove it to herself that she would be able to. Runeswell on the other hand. Poor girl, always a good girl, one of those lawful good types. Yet she always managed to find herself in troublesome situations. She certainly had a bad bit of luck following her that was for sure. Madison wasn't good at divination but she could foresee a repeat of the Halloween extravaganza from last year in Runsewell's future.

"But sometimes it takes a stranger to listen because as unaware as you are of their behavior, the awareness of the behavior of a friend can sometimes shut you up and and shut you out." Raina nodded to Madi's hands. "Rule of thumb: don't forget what you don't want others to know. In a duel, you could be broadcasting vital information with your body language alone and you wouldn't even know you just gave your opponent what they needed to beat you." Madi slowly cast her gaze downwards before glancing back up at the Hufflepuff, a frown settling into her features. So more golden nuggets of wisdom we're being dropped by Summers huh? Though she wasn't exactly sure if she should appreciate them or what. She closed her left hand into a fist underneath the table. So that hadn't gone missed huh? She'd hate to say it but Summers was right again.

"Nice advice Captain, though next time keep it a little shorter or I might just fall asleep on you." Madi teased back at the dark haired girl before grabbing her cup and taking a big gulp. At least she wasn't asking questions. Madi respected that. She really didn't feel like talking about the thing she had been trying her best to forget for the longest time. "Good evening, mind if I take a seat he--" A familiar voice spoke up from behind her.

Actually, it was painfully familiar causing her eyes to widen in surprise before slowly turning to glance behind her to see the source for herself. As soon as her eyes laid on him she felt her heart sink to her stomach. Maybe she was the one that was running out of luck instead of Runeswell. There, standing before her was August Yilmaz, her ex. Normally when people met up with their exes again they would try to show off how much better they are since them. Maybe Madison would've been one of those people had she not felt like she had actually sunken lower than where she was when she was with him. She tore her gaze from him just as quickly as she and locked onto him.

Here was another situation where she would rather forget about than address. The two of them had spoken last year but it was just a simple apology. Madi had swallowed her pride and decided to go ahead accept his apology. Not that a simple sorry solved everything. Certainly didn't mend the deep emotional wound he had inflicted upon her a while ago. Even know she would wonder why she was so hung up over this. It was high time she moved on but she just couldn't. It hurt too much and what could she really do? She was doing the best she could by acting like it never happened in the first place. "Hello to the both of you. Raina. Van Reeden," August greeted the both of them.

It was obvious the difference this time, it was in his tone and the way he addressed her. Not like she expected much else from him anyway. There had barely spoken to each other until last year and even then it was only a couple minutes of conversation before Madi had to withdraw. Underneath the table, she clenched her fists. She no longer wanted to stay here, but she couldn't just run away could she? He'd know she was running from him. What should she do? The Gryffindor bit her lip as she tried to wrack her brain for anything, even a little clue on how to get out of this situation.

"Hey there," Madi said softly with a smile in his direction. Probably one of the hardest things she had to do but sometimes you just had to fake it till you made it. "Hello" another voice chimed in before grabbing a seat at their table. Averill Trevelyan, Madison had seen him around before but never really involved herself much with him. Blinking at him she watched as he patted his lap. Seconds later a cat jumped up to meet him and he began to pet it. Madi's eyes widened again at the sight of a cat. Cats were her weak spot after all. She found herself sliding her chair closer to the dark haired male to sneak a peak at the small creature. "Aww, where did you find it?" Madi asked her eyes sparkling a bit as she kept her gaze locked on the cat.

August joined the rest of them and took a seat at the table. Maybe it was okay for her to leave now. She slid out of her chair and addressed the group. "I'm gonna go say hey to my friends over there for a little bit, excuse me." She smiled again at them, hoping it was believable enough. She made her way towards the bar which is where her friends were lingering. As she approached she caught the end of the conversation, "What about you Ali? Ready to be wed to the hair-pulling midget?" Zed teased the loveable pair. With a grin playing on her lips she slid into the little circle they formed. "What's this? Can't talk about Hogwarts' favorite couple without their number being here!" she laughed as she gestured towards herself, "All is well ladies and gentlemen, I have arrived and now the party can really get started." She teased with another giggle.

Sometimes Raina wished she was oblivious to mood changes as her little brother claimed to be. Of course when she initially heard August's voice she perked up at the familiarity of it. That familiarity quickly gave away to tension and she took a drink of her butterbeer in place of a casual greeting, but keeping her gaze shifting between the two incase something broke and she needed to make a quick getaway. She didn't exactly like getting in the middle of other people's disagreements if she could help it, especially these types of disagreements. While she never pried in August's life they two knew each other since first year; she was, at the very least, aware he was involved with Van Reeden. Afterall, a pure blood dating someone other than another pureblood wasn't exactly small news.

Apparently they didn't leave off on good terms if August was being this cold to her.

For a split second Raina was convinced she would have to excuse herself after the awkward greetings until a third greeting was thrown into the mix. Raina lowered her tankard and frowned. Trevelyn wasn't exactly a guy she knew how to feel about. For one, she called out Prince for being a half breed and been working to the pure blood's favor since. She didn't like that one bit. Sucks ups were never her favorite kind of people but at the same time he was probably just trying to survive, something she herself could understand. But calling out Prince like that? Not that she knew the nature of their relationship but they had to be close to some extent if he knew she was a half breed to begin with. It was also possible he could have accidently stumbled across that information, or actively sought it out for himself, either way, he exploited someone else for his own means and that definitely wasn't okay.

Raina's dark grey-blue eyes narrowed at him suspiciously until Van Reeden drew attention to that cat he had on his lap. She couldn't keep the Why the bloody hell do you have that thing?! out of her expression as she took in the furry creature. She was definitely not a cat person. They were gross, devious little creatures and fuck did she imagine that look they always gave her: as if she could see through her. "I'm gonna go say hey to my friends over there for a little bit, excuse me." Raina tore away from her stare down with the smug little demon to give Madison a nod of acknowledgement.

Cat momentarily forgotten she turned her focus on August and lifted her nearly empty drink in a toast. "To another year of bullshit," she snickered and took another gulp.

"Can't wait to marry my brother, Mel?"

With a single line Zedekiah managed to remind the girl of her fate again. Or supposed fate, if everything went on as planned. That what everyone expected to happen after graduation happened, after that they had become adults, had a stable life going on. If everything went as everyone believed it would go. That if it would go as planned.

Melinda had reasons to believe that it wouldn't, however. Not with the pieces currently played out in the way they were. There was a lot of work to do, preparations going on. Ultimately it all came down on how time was going to fare for them all. The choices they were going to make and how it would affect them. Especially this year, as dramatic as it sounded. Melinda just hoped that whatever was going to happen was forgiving in character.

"What about you Ali? Ready to be wed to the hair-pulling midget?" the boy continued, a moustache of cream hanging onto his lips. A humiliation that Melinda found well deserved for the boy and kept to herself on purpose. As petty as it sounded she liked the sight of a silly Zed making a fool out of himself. Especially when he was trying to take the Mickey out of others.

Before Melinda could respond, however, Madison slid in. The Gryffindor was aware of her wish to see Madi earlier, but as soon as the Quidditch captain had opened her mouth, joining Zedekiah in with the teasing, she had regretted the wish. There were simply no peaceful times with this couple in front of her.

"How could I forget about the idiot combo," Melinda sneered back, rolling her eyes and crossing her arms. Her earlier discomfort forgotten and abandoned as she sent the two a glare. Of course Madison would choose to appear just when Zed was warming up. These two were like peas in a pod.

ALISTAIR BLACKBOURNE
The awkward silence hung in the air momentarily before Melinda interrupted it with what sounded like fake laughter. A desperate attempt to break the tension, but Alistair was glad for it. When he had said those words, he did not realize their true gravity until his brother's face had darkened. But now Zed was back to his usual oblivious and jokester self. Alistair simply sighed at his twin brother's teasing, partly in relief that the world didn't blow up like he thought it would, partly because he was also too exhausted to deal with his twin brother's antics. Madison joined in their little group not long afterwards, overhearing the last snippet of their conversation. Fantastic, Alistair thought in chagrin as he sunk into a seat. The idiot couple reunites. "What's this? Can't talk about Hogwarts' favorite couple without their number being here!" She said with a boisterous laugh. "All is well, ladies and gentlemen. I have arrived and now the party can really get started."

"I don't see any couples apart from you two." Alistair simply remarked. Too soon? He decided he didn't care as he bent over to pick up two of Anice's brownies. A brave move on his part; he knew how much the girl loved her sweets. "Mind if I have some?" He asked, a little too belatedly as he was already munching on the chocolatey goodness one at a time.

He noticed some passersby were looking at him strangely because of this. Was there something in his teeth by chance? As he lifted his hand to hide his mouth, he realized just exactly what those stares meant. The sudden realization felt like bile rising up to his throat. Slamming one hand onto the table, and groping at his neck with the other, Alistair made a loud choking sound as he struggled between spitting the last brownie out and swallowing it whole. The sounds he made was largely inappropriate for such a setting and it didn't go unnoticed. Alistair sure as hell didn't want to spit the brownie out in public, but he didn't want to get high either.

Inevitably, the brownie found its way down his throat. Wide-eyed and red-faced from the struggle, Alistair simply stared into the distance, fully aware how royally screwed he was.

A new voice entered their merry little group, one he was most definitely familiar with. His favourite person--next to Ali that is--had arrived. Her presence was always one that Zed welcomed, she was his partner in crime after all. "Madi!" he exclaimed her name in excitement as he moved to place an arm around her shoulders and give a one-armed hug. "You finally showed up. I was beginning to wonder if you were even gonna be here."

"How could I forget about the idiot combo," he heard Mel say as she went on to glare at them. Zed merely gave the glaring midget another frothy grin. The grin quickly disappeared though as he heard his brother's remark. This time a slight frown was resting on his face. Zed titled his head at him in confusion. Who else in their group was a couple apart from Ali and Mel? Zed didn't know if they were dating or not, but they were engaged and that makes them a couple in his eyes.

In the end, Zed decided it'd be best not to dwell on it any further. Instead, he turned his attention back to Mel. He was about ready to continue with teasing her, when all of a sudden there was a loud slam. His eyes were wide as the sound startled him. Zed turned to the direction of where the sound came from and found his brother grasping his own neck. He frowned, both in confusion and in concern. To him it looked as if his brother was trying to choke himself. Trying to find reason in his brother's actions was the last thing in his mind at that moment.

Zed moved to stand beside his brother but before he could even do anything, the horrible choking sound stopped. Although he was quite thankful that his brother no longer seemed to be choking, Zed was still quite worried. Ali was now silent and his gaze was somewhere far far away. It was rather un-Ali-like of him, in Zed's opinion at least. Zed hung the scarf in his hand around his arm that had the butterbeer and placed his now free hand on his brother's shoulder. "You okay, Ali?" he asked in concern. Zed took a glance at the mug of butterbeer he had before offering it to his brother. "Here. Have some of it to wash it down." His eyes narrowed for a brief moment before he added in a quieter voice than before, "Although it seems you've already gotten it down." He shrugged. "Have some of it anyway!"
