Raina Summers

Was it technically abduction if the other person eventually agreed to go? Either way, once Raina caught sight of something large entering the atmosphere August really had no other choice but to hop on her brother's commandeered hoverbike out of some sense of hey, she shouldn't go alone least she starts an intergalactic war. So here they were, zipping across the desert because, for whatever reason, the Galaxy Garrison decided they should go Area 51 and be located in the middle of dusty ass nowhere, heading towards a crash site that could not have been caused by a meteor (okay, it could have, but aliens). Luckily they seemed to be closer to it than the Garrison but no doubt they saw it and were sending scouts, so they had to act fast.

Raina could do fast.

In movies, there were conveniently placed rocks and foliage to hide behind; however no such thing was present when Raina came to a skidding halt in front of what was no doubt a space craft, kicking up sand as the bike fishtailed. It was no model she recognized. At first glance it definitely looked more like a cargo class ship than anything built for battle. But, you know, aliens. For all she knew it was kind of sky fortress that decided hey, that looks like a good spot to ram myself and unleash devastating forces on the unsuspecting natives. Yeah, Raina should have thought of that before charging towards an unidentified, crashing object.

He had wanted to go over their review notes one last time before quitting the night, it really wasn’t going to be that long before their examination was going to happen. If they both wanted to stay where they are, or perhaps even climb a rank they would have to nail the examinations. However, the moment a big unidentified foreign object --better known as an UFO-- entered their atmosphere and crashed somewhere in the desert August had given up on any reviewing tonight.

He knew Raina well enough to know that there was no chance she would not seek out the excitement. He also knew the female well enough to know that she would start a war of sorts with her tongue. She was the reason why Communication specialists like him were needed, and while August was grateful that he was assured of a job because of types like Summers, he also knew that his life was about to become ten times harder no matter the choice he made. Which was another reason why he had decided to hop onto the vehicle with Raina to escape the base. If he was going to have a grand time he might as well take all his chances, and August couldn’t say he wasn’t curious himself.

At least he had confidence in his own abilities of passing the examination. However, tomorrow he would definitely force Raina through the notes, even if she started an intergalactic war with their neighbours from the moon.

“I assume you have no plan?” August mocked the female as he let himself fall into the sand next to Raina. The wretched driver she was! The boy was feeling as green as his eyes probably were, taking deep exercised breaths to keep the nausea down and regain control over his pulse.

The spaceship was large and unlike any other ship he had ever seen before. The design made him frown a little, judging it to be impractical for battle, but too sober to be of anything of importance. Or perhaps that was the culture of the aliens inside? Unsure the garrison student crawled up, dusted himself off as he stood next to his friend.

“Are we going in, or are we going to be sensible and call the base?” he asked, sarcasm lacing his voice as he already knew what the answer was going to be. Raina letting an opportunity to explore go and handing it over to the camp? August scoffed at the idea and he was glad for it. The ship looked defunct from the crash and he was sure that he wouldn’t be allowed to even ask questions alluding to this craft once the regiment had been alerted. No, this was their one and only chance.

“Are we going in, or are we going to be sensible and call the base?”

The look Raina shot August was nothing short of 'What the fuck?'. "August, my man, my dude, my guy; that is a literal spaceship! Don't even joke about that!" she exclaimed as she dismounted her brother's speeder and dashed toward the unknown.

Sand was everywhere. In her hair, in her favorite jacket, under her nails, and yet as she drew closer to the resting ship she realized it was still sparkling new. But she was on the clock and it wasn't the exterior she was interested in (okay, maybe a little). What she really wanted to know was what was flying it? She paced around towards what had to be the front end of the ship where logically there would be a cockpit, and yeah there was definitely makings of one, but the seats were empty? She frowned and made her away around the ship to look for some sort of way in. For all she knew, the pilot was passed out somewhere. Possibly even injured.

Noting how seamless the exterior was, Raina made an educated guess and felt around for some hidden door. Frustrated when her search proved futile and time was quickly running out, she slammed her hand against the side of it and it just popped open! "Huh, must have been damaged in the collision," she rationalized. A grin split her face and she quickly ducked in without waiting for August's approval.

It surprisingly had a new car smell.

It was also darker and more dreary than what she was expecting. The interior was near black in color and the accent lights painted everything in purple. It would have totally been her aesthetic, if wasn't so damn depressing. From the door, the cock pit was in plain view and there were three seats in all, two in front and one behind them. It was a rather interesting set up. It was also rather empty. No wonder the ship had crashed, ther was no one to pilot it!

Raina had a nose for adventure and a talent for trouble. August knew that, which was partly why he stuck around her. To keep her out of trouble, but also to add in the necessary adventure into his life. That they were infiltrating an unknown spaceship that was suspiciously empty did cross his mind, but he felt confident with his new fireflies in his pockets.

“Looks like a supervillain hideout,” August mused, taking a few moments before he stepped into the spaceship. Wise it certainly wasn’t, but curiosity won him over. This was definitely no human design and the male knew that he would regret it for the rest of his life if he didn’t get to explore this ship just a little.

“I wonder where the pilot went,” August mused, walking over to the front. There was no internal damage, it seemed, so far August could see, however external there must have been plenty of damage to crash like that. “No missing seats, so the pilot must have still been in the ship as it crashed,” quickly making his observations the boy walked over to the dashboard, fingers hovering over the platform and buttons that were still lightening up.

“The pilot can’t be far, and neither the garrison. Let’s head back.”

As if saying a magic word the dashboard lit up, more buttons bleeping, all in the same black and purple colour scheme it had already established.

“Please get seated, ship getting ready for take off in 3…”

A shrill voice spoke to the room as the spaceship started to shake, vibrating lightly in a pur before it became alive.

“Pilots, take your seat.”

The voice became more commanding as the trembling of the spaceship started to become more violent, to the point where August lost his balance as he fell down.

“Told you,” the voice clipped before one of the seatbelts wrapped around the boy and dragged him into the front seat.

“Wait, stop, there is a mistake!” August tried to call out, but the spaceship was roaring too loudly for him to be heard, or perhaps the voice pretended not to hear the male.

“Raina!” August called for his friend, hoping that his fellow classmate had a smart idea to help them out.

Raina Summers

Raina braced herself against the wall of the ship as it came to life, but with all the noise and the yelling and the freakiness, the only thing she seemed to focus on was the door closing on them with a solemn finality. I guess it wasn't busted afterall, was her first thought on the matter.

"Raina!"

At her friend's urgency she quickly caught up on current events and half hurried, half stumbled her way towards the front of the ship where August was currently being held hostage. She caught herself on the back of a seat and turned her attention on the control panel and display screens but... was that a runic alphabet?! Moving on. Didn't it say something about them being its pilots (nevermind the fact it was talking to them to begin with, with startling sentience)? "As your pilot I order you to disengage launch sequence!"

"Command overridden."

Raina's eyebrow twitched. What was the point of being the pilot if you didn't have control over the ship? "Then I order you to stop overriding my commands!" There was a pause, and for a second Raina was convinced she had it beat, until,

"Command overriden."

"Oh you son of a bi--" she lurched at the control panel, her fall back plan mainly consisting of punching and kicking at it to get it to do something more favorable, but before she could get close enough the seat belts snagged her up as well. "You know what? Fuck you and your creepy, sentient, robot voice!" She kicked out and tugged and thrashed but no matter she did the seatbelts didn't give. If anything, they seemed to have tightened.

Raina only paused in her escape attempt when she realized they were now hovering, sand kicking up around them and nearly obscuring the view. But no matter how much sand clouded around them, she still saw where the Galaxy Garrison's team came to a screeching halt when the ship swung around. She saw them stand outside of their vehicles and gape at them, eyes shielded from the sand and the wind, and yet she somehow managed to lock eyes with a rather recognizable teacher right before they took off with a resounding boom.

The pressure exerted on her was intense. Pinned against the seat, there really wasn't anything more she could do but watch the sky and the clouds and general atmosphere burn away to the deep, dark void of space. Her breath caught in her throat because holy shit they were actually in space. Finally, the seatbelts retracted themselves.

"You are now free to move around the cabin."

Space or not, Raina flipped it off.

They were in space. They were amongst the stars and not in a metaphorical way or serving as an euphemism to hide a tragedy. Space, outside of the safe atmosphere of earth where he could breath without the help of an oxygen tank. Where there was gravity to ground him to the soil. Away from everything he had known and with way less training than he had ever anticipated. Heck, he barely survived any of the simulation flights, but that was because Raina was a loose rocket and he couldn’t get himself to ditch her.

When the seatbelts released him the male shot forward, clambering over to the dashboard as he looked over the unfamiliar buttons and screens that the ship possessed.

“Where are you taking us?”

“Home.”

“Where is ‘home’?”

The voice went quiet as August asked this, as if thinking of how to answer. “Well?” August pressured, ignoring how Raina was flipping the bird at the dashboard. Classic Raina.

The voice bleeped, as if rolling its eyes before finally responding:

“Not earth.”

Exasperated August kicked the air before letting himself fall down in his seat. “Useful, really useful! Ten out of ten for the sass, but really, appreciated!” the boy mumbled, closing his eyes as he tried to think of what to do next.

“What about your original pilot, hmm?” the foreigner tried again, hoping to figure something out. Biting his tongue back from cursing he stared down the dashboard, seeing as he had no idea where the voice was coming from the dashboard was his best bet.

“Dead,” came the casual answer of the voice. Nothing that reassured the boy.

"Unbelievable," the Garrison student sighed, feeling his wits coming to an end. Abducted by an unidentified object, floating in space, destination unknown, purpose unknown, unprepared, unsupervised, with Raina... The male could continue to list off a lot more of what was wrong with the whole situation, but as of the moment he didn't even want to delve into that.

He would leave the cursing to Raina.

Raina Summers

Raina huffed and, out of sheer habit, pulled out her phone. It seemed she had a few missed messages.

O gr8, anothr lock dwn. Wht do u think it is ths time? Anothr nuke bom scare?

She always did hate how Kyler texted, and she's 99% sure he did on purpose just to irritate the piss out her.

Rains?

Gr8 its u isnt it?

Ur the reson were on lock dwn

He is doing it on purpose. Auto correct would have shoved all those commas into all the right places. He would have had to remove them himself.

She checked another message.

Raina, where is Declan's bike.

Oh shit, the period instead of the question mark question. Selene only did that when she already knew the answer. What does it matter? What she going to do? Yeet herself into space?

She didn't think to say goodbye.

She sighed and turned off her phone. She then leaned forward and tried to gather her thoughts. Starting with the rule of threes of survival, "First thing first, supply check. We need to secure a supply of water and a supply of food. We already have this ship so shelter isn't an immediate concern but it'll be nice to locate some bunkers or something." Sure she could ask the A.I. but the hell with that; she's done with whatever asshole the programmer installed into the ship.

"After we should also try to locate some maps or a database or something." She stood and shoved her phone into her back pocket. She figured the cargo bay or a storage unite or a kitchen even would be the best place to look, but without knowing the make and model of the ship she had no idea where anything might be.

Rolling his eyes at Raina’s list of necessities August slumped down into his seat as his friend went off on a scavenger hunt. Boring his eyes into the distance the boy watched earth getting smaller and smaller as the ship flew on.

“This is something that should only happen in fiction,” August sighed, exasperated as he threw himself out of his seat. Pacing up and down the ship the boy tried to think of any possible commands that could help their situation, preferably bring them back to earth. However, the voice installed seemed to know what the Turk was trying, bleeping in a content way before it spoke again.

“You just happened to enter,” it explained and August wasn’t sure how to properly feel to be told that he just happened to be at the wrong place at the wrong time and that anyone could have been taken away. Even Raina alone.

“But don’t worry, we will have proper fun and there is plenty of sustenance on the ship to sustain you,” the voice continued to August’s horror. It really was planning on keeping them around.

“Tell your friend to calm down, though. My readings say that she is prone to violent outbursts,” the robotic voice continued and the Garrison student wondered what the ship had read from his character to suddenly change its whole tone. Expecting him to keep Raina in check? As if. The male scoffed at the idea, already imagining the many colourful ways Raina would employ to ensure that exactly wasn't going to happen.

“You are definitely more reasonable,” the voice continued and August rose a brow. It didn’t take a mind-reader or a genius to take that conclusion, the male knew that. However, August didn’t feel all that reasonable at the moment.

“I need coffee,” he prompted, ignoring everything that Raina or the voice had said so far. The ship bleeped again, seemingly trying to compute the command given.

“Coffee?” it came broken and August patiently folded his arms behind his back. If there was no coffee...

“Cup of hot brown morning potion?” the male tried.

The machine bleeped once more before an arm appeared holding a cup of steaming brown liquid that smelled like petroleum.

"Never mind,” August rolled his eyes as he turned away from the cup in disgust. “Just give me a map of the ship,” he ordered and the voice, seemingly feeling guilty, listened for the first time since their abduction. On the screen, replacing the earth that was now a mere dot in the window, a map appeared. The male only hoped that the ship had given him the right map.

“Raina, I have a map!” August hollered, the promise of having to miss coffee for who-knows-how-long already inducing a migraine.

He could basically hear the voice bleeping and adjusting its notes on its hostages.

"Raina, I have a map!"

"The fuck you, gonna do? Find the nearest Starbucks?" Raina called back, making her way deeper into the ship. How was a map going to help them anyway? They already knew where Earth was: in the fucking opposite direction. She swore and kicked out at the ship. Stupid AI. She sighed and rested her forehead against the wall with a thunk.

She was frequently in and out of trouble; never knowing when stop and deliberately crossing lines set out before her. Because once she realized Celeste wasn't there breathing down her neck, the taste of freedom was intoxicating and she was on a never ending pursuit of more. Of course she still had Selene, Declan, and August to pull her back from the brink, but she finally teetered over that edged and brought someone down with her.

It was bound to happen eventually.

She rubbed at her face and moved on. She shouldn't think about all that right now. The conclusions she would come would cut too deep. Right now she just wanted to take stock of the ship and just focus on anything else but the inevitable. She located what looked to be a Canteen and there seemed to be individual crew quarters. They almost looked a like dorm rooms with a single bed suspended from the wall, a floating desk, and storage unit. It was a practical setup that seemed geared towards saving space.

She moved on, deciding to take an interest in the engineering room. She back tracked, however, when she stumbled across a marked bay. She couldn't read what the sign specifically said but something about it had her interest. For whatever reason, she needed to see what was on the other side of that door. She eyed the keypad, wondering if she should bother with it, or just smash it and hoped that would allow her entrance.

For once that didn't seem all that great of an idea. "Hey, August, I found a door!" Raina shouted, imitating his vague declaration from before.

A sleight vein popped with August at Raina’s response. Was she seriously going to act like that now of all times? Sucking in a deep breath the male just ignored whatever remarks came from her as he returned his attention to the display.

A complicated run of chambers and halls and bridges that were connected was revealed. Three flickering lights indicating the whereabouts of someone. Frowning August leaned forward, noticing how one of the lights moved west into the map along with him. Good, that was at least figured out. When Raina hollered that she had found a ‘door’ August figured that she was the nearest dot, giving another approving hum. So, who was the third?

For that Raina was perfectly positioned.

“Give me the intercom,” August ordered confidently to the ship. A bleep later and a light flickered on indicating that he could speak.

“Hey Raina, there is another presence,” he called, rolling his eyes. Somewhere in the back he could faintly hear his voice being repeated over the speakers. A nuisance, but it would have to do until August figured out how to control the ships and its functions.

“Show me the loudmouth and the stranger,” August spoke once more, leaning forward.

“Response negative,” the ship spoke back. “Order overridden,” it continued before turning the screen black again.

Groaning August threw up his arms. That really could only mean a few things and August didn’t like any of the implications of it. Turning around he ran down the hall into the direction he remembered Raina to be.

“I think we found our kidnapper,” he grunted once he reached the female. She really hadn’t been that far away as expected, seeing as he could still hear her earlier. “Just a few rooms ahead. They have been overriding our commands,” August continued with a frown as he tried to puzzle this together.

“The ship claimed that its pilot had died, however,” he mumbled as he eyed the locked door suspiciously. Had someone else sneaked into the ship along with them? Why had they decided to take off? Or was it something worse?

Raina heard August's voice over the intercom her skin began to prickle. She knew she was more paranoid than most people, and that reasonably the other person (people?) might have already known they were there, but there was always the chance that they didn't.

Perhaps the ship landed and took off periodically enough that it was normal (it certainly knew how to drive itself pretty well ). Perhaps the walls were thick enough that calling out was not enough to be heard through them and perhaps the door was too far inward to hear their "conversation" with the AI. What could not be denied or challenged, though, was that intercoms were loud and designed to project sound. Why would August use it to tell her of the other person instead of doing what he did anyway and come find her himself?

She couldn't find anyway to challenge that thought. If anything, that thought became worse as it delve into August wanted the other person to know they were there. She couldn't keep following that thread because she knew where she'd end up: August was an alien all this time and their friendship was a long time ruse to get her on this ship. There was no way to come back from that now.

"I think I found our kidnapper."

Raina shot him a glare and returned her focus on the door. Fuck it, she couldn't continue standing there because if she did, everything would just get worse. She banged her fist on the door and shouted, "I don't care if you're dead or not, get out here!"

Ignoring Raina’s glare August was quick to check the door and its mechanics. If he had read the map correctly the stranger was in an isolated room, which meant that there was no other escape other than the door that the two teens were standing in front of. Which also meant that there was something inside of the room that could help the stranger in overriding the orders at the cockpit, which potentially could mean that they were the ones who had activated the ship and made it leave.

“Think we should get something to hit them with?” August questioned, eyes already scanning out the hallways to look for anything that could be used as a weapon. The garrison did provide some basic training in self-defense, but the communications specialist wondered just how much that would help them against their abductor. Especially if they took into consideration the possibility that they were armed as well.

“Anyway, they are very much alive. They’ve just overridden my commands of the ship, which means they probably know how to get out of this door as well,” the male continued as he pointed at the lock pad next to the door. Mentally he was betting on it being a print reader, to which he could also bet that neither Raina or he had the prints needed, face or hand.

“Or, if we manage to vandalise the right wall I can look at the wires,” he continued with a casual shrug, side-eyeing Raina meaningfully with the obvious hint.

Raina Summers

"Think we should get something to hit them with?"

Raina smirked at that idea and knew exactly what she wanted to hit them with. Unfortunately, she didn't have it on her. She didn't have any of her tools on her, which was pretty dumb of her. How could she have forgotten to bring them with? No, even if she did, she would've left them with Declan's bike. While she stewed August continued to prattle on until he actually said something interesting, and that made her realize something: wouldn't there be tools on the ship?

"I'll be right back," she tossed over her shoulder as she made towards engineering. There had to be like a maintenance area or something right? Somewhere with tools stored. Sure she could ask the AI of this ship, but given that it was the entity that effectively yeeted them into space she was straight up done with it. Though it could of sped up the whole searching and B&E process she did eventually get what she was looking for and returned with a toolbox and a carelessly discarded tool belt (she didn't know what she needed, so she just grabbed everything).

"Alright, let's see now," Raina muttered under her breath as she picked through the selection. Of course some tools were alien to fit the alien mechanisms but apparently screw drivers and hammers were basic enough to be universal. Approved upon but nothing on the level of sonic-- nothing she couldn't figure out on her own. But what she took an interest in was the neat little tool that looked like the lazer version of an electric hand saw. She put it on the lowest setting and, slipping on the mask she brought along just in case, cut open the metal paneling.

"That good enough for you?" she asked with a smug little smirk.

There wasn’t as much vandalising and violence involved as he had expected with Raina, though August figured it was too early on into their adventure to really say anything about it. It was of no matter, however. With part of the wires left naked to the eye and to the reach August came to join Raina as he stared at the newly made hole.

“No,” the voice of the ship spoke again, voice flat (or flatter than it could be) in response to Raina’s smugness. August had decided not to grace it with any answer, but the ship apparently did want to push in their opinion, which the Turk knew would only delight the female even more.

Picking up a few tools the male started to examine the network of technology that was running through each other. The first thing he noticed was the lack of need for a bunch of wires, the energy seemingly running and pulsing through seamless lines instead.

“Can you stick your hand in it?” he deadpanned at Raina, though he knew that even Raina wasn’t so reckless as to just expose herself to an unknown current from which they didn’t know if it could possibly fry them, or worse. Still, quite fed up with the whole situation the male picked up a longer tool as he tried to approach the panels, finding that the currents of energy reacted to the material as it made a discourse towards the tip of his tool. A crackling sound could be heard and August knew he shouldn’t push his luck too much.

“Dangerous,” the ship bleeped again to which August threw a blank glare up the ceiling having the obvious stated. He held his tongue however, this was good to know. At least the ship didn’t want them dead.

“Can we meet your friend, please?” the male questioned instead, putting up his politest tone and voice even though he had no idea if the ship had any sensitivity towards manners.

“Only if you promise not to attack,” was the response to which August gave Raina a look.

“I will try to keep her in check, promise,” the male promised the ship, giving his friend a raise with his brow.

They both knew that August wouldn’t be able to keep Raina in check.
