Mayu shook her head. Realizing the mistake in what she had just almost deluded herself into contemplating.
("What am I talking about? Isn't a background character pretty much my ideal? A background character worries of nothing.")
A background character suffers not from misfortune, nor do they have to come across difficulty. The reason why a protagonist is a protagonist is because watching their misfortune makes for good entertainment. However, the thing happening to her right now would be something that would immediately kick her out of the background character class. No, she was worse than that. More along the lines of those RPG townspeople who can be seen with generic death one-liners after the village gets attacked by monsters.
That was way too depressing of a thing to think about!
Shaking her head, Mayu jumped back into reality. It seemed like students were already making their way into classes for the day. The Volunteer Community assistant, still looking for someone who actually knew how to handle Mayu's not being on the dormitory room list, was still actively looking around the clearing area. Wearing a troubled expression. It didn't seem like she was going to trigger any sort of helpful event by standing around looking hopeless.
She looked up to the Community assistant.
"I guess I'm in a pretty tough jam, huh? Oh well."
The Assistant's autonomous scanning of the area halted when he heard the girl speak up. She had what looked like a lollipop with a red wrapper pointed at him.
"What is that for?"
"A peace offering. Thanks for trying to help, but I think I still need to make it to class on time."
"Uh- wait." He stammered, suddenly feeling deficient.
"It's alright. I just need to go talk to the 'right person' at some point. You probably need to go do your own thing too at this point, right?"
...
"Yeah. I'm sorry. Please try asking help from one of the real staff when you get the chance." He said taking the peace offering out of obligation and looking guilty for their helplessness in the scenario.
"It's alright. I'll see you around."
And, as always, Mayu Yorihase made do with what she had. Out of the Dorms, and towards the choked entrance of the school building, Mayu was already caught up at the entrance where people were meeting and greeting one another. A group of extended conversations acted as a barrier for her way to get in.
"Ah, why do people always like to have conversations in places that they'll end up blocking?" She said, ponderously looking for a way to get in. From the yelps and eeps coming from inside, it sounded like
someone else was already clawing their way through the masses by force. For a moment Mayu wished she had the strength to push people aside.
"C'mon... Let me through! Man, I hope the Psycology teacher is understanding."
"Well of course they are, it is Psycology" She said to as an aside.

[fieldbox= Baki Asuman, purple, solid]
The teacher spoke in moderate disbelief.
"Right, so you're a student here?"
The student standing before the teacher manning the entrance to Hisakawa was standing before a peculiar sight. The young man in front of him defiantly had a uniform on. But, it looked like this particular had been on quite a run. The stains and dust on the boys coat, and the leaves and twigs stuck in his hair painted a rather dazzling story of what lead this student here to the front gates. The teacher struggled to come up with the right thing to say at first. There was just too much to say.
"First off, you are defiantly late to the opening ceremony. The day's classes are about to start - but uh, are you sure you don't need to take a rest?"
"Negative. I am completely functional. I am ready to engage in school activities." The boy said as he tosses a twig from his hair off to the side. It was hard to argue about him being exhausted either. The boy had run up to the gate but still seemed like he had just started jogging, even though his appearance made him look like he had been in some sort of extreme Triathlon.
"Y-yeah. Could I see your Student Identification please?"
"Affirmative. Here."
"Okay, Asuman Baki-san, is it? Just head on over to your classroom immediately. We set up signs to make it easier on you freshmen to find your way around."
"Understood. Proceeding to Classroom Assembly Area!"
His mission objective clear, Baki Asuman moves forward pass to the gates with indomitable purpose.
"But! Before that, maybe you could consider changing out-... oh geez." The teacher wiped his forehead as he watched the brash young student walk on. "I suppose we wouldn't be Hisakawa if it weren't for our crazies. I should really finish that Master's and get a regular job."
Past the gates, past the field, Baki's curious and weathered exterior was an head turner for those not deeply engaged in conversation. Unluckily for Mayu Yorihase, the biggest source of 'rumor' for that week was making their way to the same classroom as her. The point of the rumors probably began the moment he got into the crowded hallways of the school. Baki literally rammed his way through the horde of students congregating in certain choke-points in the hallways without much consideration as he made his way to the Freshman Class.
"Get out of my way!" His voice yelled. Though it was drowned out with the commotion he was causing. Despite this, his hand grabbed yet another student ahead of him and pulled them aside, smothering them into a wall of students. "I have to report to Psychology...!"
