HIROKYE 1#: ORIENTATION

Simulation_Room_1_1.jpg
All young heroes that were accepted into the Hiro Guild were instructed to meet back at the guild for orientation approximately a week after the closing to new applicants. They were also instructed to come in full hero gear; specifically safety gear. Upon entering the building, sidekicks were corralled into a large, dome-shaped room made completely out of an odd metal with the only breaks being four exits left gaping open for the time being. The feeling of being watched was ever present.

At fourteen-hundred hours exactly, all exits closed and blended seamlessly into the walls with the only indicator they were ever there being the ramps leading up to them. All sidekicks seemed to be effectively trapped. Without skipping a beat, a large screen materialized above the crowd of gathered sidekicks displaying a peppy looking woman with fancy black hair and decorative, dangling earrings. In her hand was a controller with a big red button

"Good evening, everyone!" she greeted. "You may know me as Remix, the 4 of Hirokye. Why don't we get started, shall we?" But before she could press the button, a large metalic hand rested on her shoulder. Two persons, one that looked to be completely made of metal and another essentially a human mantis, stepped in beside her.

"Before we get to the interesting bits, perhaps we should explain what's going on," the mantis woman said, shooting a look at her partner. As she talked, the mandibles on her face moved, revealing glimpses of a relatively human mouth. "I'm Quantum Mantis and this here next to me is Iron Will. I'm sure most of you have already heard of us but by the off chance you haven't; glad you can join us in the sunlight and open air." She seemed to smirk at her words but it was difficult to tell. Now it was her turn to receive a metal hand on her shoulder with an added bonus of a head turn of disapproval.

Appearing to no longer trust their colleagues with introductions, Iron Will stepped up and Quantum Mantis hurried to translates their sign language, "As many of you are aware there are some circumstances where you're grouped with someone you may not entirely know or with powers you're not entirely familiar with. Even we three don't always get to work together given our expertise in different areas. To simulate this, we purposely gave you no time to introduce yourselves and explain your powers. Look around, these strangers are now your teammates." Iron Will then turned back to Remix, who took a moment to even realize she was expected to talk.

"Fine I'll explain what's going to happen. You're currently standing in what we affectionately call the Spectro Dome, which is to say a large simulation chamber we use for training. Pretty cool huh? With this room we're about throw you into a cliché alien invasion because who doesn't like a good cliché? Only, you weren't apart of the task force sent in to deal with the aliens, you were apart of the task force sent in to search, rescue, and evacuate the civilians in the area. Don't worry about not having any previous training. This is mostly to get a good on idea on what kind of people we're working with."

"After all, what better way to get to know someone than in the middle of battle?" Quantum Mantis chimed in."Now you can press the button."

Beaming, Remix did just that. With just a press of a button the world was set aflame.

What was previously a metal dome room was now down town Hirokye; just with more fire and screaming. The air was thick with smoke and explosions sounded in the distance, shaking the very ground underfoot. Roads were broken up and littered with various hazards, overturned cars and falling glass to name a few. All around people were trapped, injured, or both, and to drive the point home a woman called for her baby!

A voice crackled in the sidekicks' ears as if they were wore an ear piece. "Okay, young heroes," Quantum Mantis began. "Don't mind the fire. Or think too much about it. Remix has a bit of a flair for dramatics. That thing that's not suppose to be on fire? Well it is, just accept it. Anyway your first objective is to save the people trapped in that turned over city bus. Start there and fan out. Civilians will automatically run to a safe zone once they've been saved so if they're not running your job isn't done. We're not here to hold your hand so don't expect too munch interference from us. Just do your best!"

Overcast had assumed the worst when the dome closed completely, her claustrophobia thoroughly activated in spite of the room's state-of-the-art grandness. On the whole, it seemed rather palpably unfair. She had enrolled in all this business to meet people, and now she was going to have a panic attack before even getting to make a real first impression. At the very least, Iron Will and Mantis had decided to let them forego the whole 'circle of introduction speeches' schtick; she was certain that she'd puke the very moment she opened her mouth.

So she had pursed her lips, a wall against the torrential tide. Her ears, too, were walled off by the crashing tidal-wave headache that pulsed and pounded between right and left temple, blocking out the finer bits of Mantis' mission briefing. For brief moments, she found that her quandary was something as startlingly simple as: where to look. There was Mantis and her distressingly chitinous form, Remix's matronly comportment and then Iron Will in their hard, rigid, mascu-.

Hrm.

She had just decided to settle upon the expanse of the dome, before the slate shifted into fire and rubble. Oh, she regret!

She could already feel the sweat building up from the heat of the simulacrum, perspiration permeating her immaculately straightened hair. Which, strangely enough, was also a problem; she had thought to allocate her morning routine towards her hair (for the aforementioned 'first impression'). She had neglected the source of her power, the currently shrivelled, impotent cloud that hung above her head. If she could just… treat her cloud a bit, she'd be able to put out some of the fires that dotted the landscape; "don't mind the fire" be damned. And besides, what was she without her cloud?

And so, she retrieved her hair comb from her pockets of dark leather, and furiously combed her cloud outwards. All the while, she could hear the screams and glass-pounding struggles of those trapped within the bus. They'd just… need to hold on for a bit.

While she combed.

Hale Vincent

For Hale it was like a dream. It wasn't that he didn't know where he was before, but it was easy not to think about. Assuming the simulator wasn't designed to hurt them, he could still feel his threat constrict at the sight of fire and smoke bellowing from towering buildings. It wasn't until Mantis, with that distinctive clicking noise punctuating certain words and even syllables, mentioned the bus did his attention draw to to it.

It was tipped on its side full of panicking civilians and while yes he did know it was fake, it still wasn't any less alarming. "Hey come help me with-- what are you doing?" Hale stopped and stared at what appeared to be a female combing a hair... cloud... thing? For a moment he wasn't sure if she was real or just apart of the simulation, though he did vaguely recall seeing her in the simulation chamber. Spectro Dome. Thing. He made a noise at the back of his throat and made some hand gestures, not really sure what to do with them. "Is that-- Do you have to do that now?" Was there even protocol for your teammates stopping in the middle of the action to comb their hair, or what was presumably their hair?

Leonora Sessou

Leonora stood dressed in her hero gear. With her back straight and head high the young woman looked prepared for anything. Upon entering the room she took a moment to take in her surroundings. The dome shaped building is as void of anything except for the exits. Eventually those disappeared as well. Leonora watched as a screen appeared before them. She'd never admit that she was a little star struck once Hirokye's top heros showed themselves. They received Leonora's undivided attention. She didn't want to miss a thing.

So they were being tested in a way. She had always been an excellent test taker. Leonora looked at her team mates, she could only hoped that they could keep up or not screw up. Before her eyes the empty dome turned into down town Hirokye but the city was engulfed in flames and smoke. Citizens screamed in terror for someone to save them. Leonora looked back to her supposed teammates. Was she...combing her hair? Leonora really hoped that it was related to her powers. The other, the one with red hair, stood watching in what she assumed was disbelief of confusion.

Leonora turned her attention back to the overturned bus. Without a second glance and swiftly headed. She walked to the top of the bus. The emergency exits situated at the top would be the best way to get as many out as possible. As the exits only opened from the inside, Leonora had to use her powers. She closed her eyes for a moment. When she opened them the faint

sound of a gorilla's roar could be heard. Leonora proceeded to rip open one of the emergency exits. She began ushering civilians out.

Ophanim Hayyoth
Ophanim could feel his fingers twitch at the caffeine coursing through his body. Just the night before he hadn't gotten a wink of sleep. At the very last application day Ophanim had braced himself and stepped into the guild to hand his form. Ever since then --a week past now-- he had agonised himself over the decision, wondering what had taken over his good rationale to pursue a career as a hero. The moment that Remix activated the dome's simulation the male grew even weaker in the legs. The faked screams and city on fire gave him the heebie jeebies and the winged male wished for nothing more than to leave this instant.

No introduction, no strategy, just straight into a simulated depths. It was the absolute worst way for Ophanim to start his first day at the guild. So unstructured and random as this was, it stood against all the neurotic winged man stood for. However, his application and decision to apply had been far from structured and planned as well and thus it all fell in line.

Another male not too far from him spoke up in surprise, calling out to a female combing her-- cloud? Ophanim wasn't sure what to make of her hairdo, but he decided to ignore it. It probably had to do with her powers, and if not? Well, vanity was a superpower in itself as well.

Luckily another woman decided to be proactive, moving towards the overturned bus in a black flash and opening the bus with brute strength. Gulping, Ophanim found himself impressed by the female where he deciding right then that he was going to try his best not to anger her. Following her lead he flew over to the bus deciding that while the miss helped the adults he could carry the children to the ground.

"Hey, it's fine," he told one particular child. Though the bags underneath his eyes were large and dark and he felt terrible, the child stopped crying nonetheless which was appreciated. Simulation kids seemed to be much easier in that regard, which eased his mind a little. Tests never were his strong points, but this made it easier.
