Hero
By Kathrine Goodall

My hero is gone
Not physically, but mentally.
He's given up fighting
To keep the life so many cherish.
He sits in his chair alone,
Staring at the blank screen,
The box turned off,
Reminding him that soon he will be.
He has changed.
Changed from a father with no worries,
To a shell of a man he once was.
Nothing left,
All hope has been stolen unknowingly.
His heart isn't far behind.
Many have tried to help him come back
But none have succeeded.
I wish he wasn't like this.
I want my daddy, like any other little girl.
But he's slipping through my trembling
Hands.
If only I could save him.
Make him not so gone.
If only he was okay again,
Like the Super-dad he once was.
If only.
But he's not,
And he won't be.
I can't fix the broken man
I call Daddy.
