Jean-Baptiste became the Duke of Angoulême in 1755, during the Seven Years War. At the time, he was also sent to New France to command troops. He skirmished with Iroquois natives and British colonist at Oswego, ambushing passing by troops, shooting at encampments in the distance, and flanking at British ranks from the flank at the Battle of Carillion. However, with the fall of Quebec and the treaty of Paris, he returned to France humiliated and unrewarded.
