Harmony in the Chaos

Thinking in a logical manner had never been her strong suit, but even Sariel was beginning to realize that the cause was hopeless. As she laid there on the edge of the roof, staring at the ground, she pondered options. Elves were not given wings, so she could not fly. Jumping would be death. Running back inside would mean getting caught before she reached the front door. There really was nowhere to go except back into her cell, no matter what she did. Especially if she wanted to escape with her new friend. Trying to get both of them out the front door would be even harder.

As she thought of him, she turned her head to see where he was. Just as her eyes found him, he smiled at her. She blinked in surprise, watching as he took a fist to the belly and flew across the drenched rooftop. The sickening crunch would have made her laugh if she wasn't so damn furious. How dare he hit her friend?! She sat up, a scowl on her face. There was no way she could win a fight head on!

Except..

She was outside. Realization dawned. The voice in her head was cackling with glee, and she felt herself smiling in response. Here they were, outside, and she had missed the afternoon medicine dose. It was perfect. She got up and ran over to the two-headed freakshow, standing between him and her new friend. There was no way she was going to let him be attacked again. Instead, she drew her hands up and gestured as though she was throwing something at him.

For a moment, nothing happened. She waited, grinning in satisfaction as vines quickly slithered over the roof and curled up his body. They lashed from all directions, grabbing at his arms and throats, trying to force him to topple and be completely encased. The vines were crawling up the sides of the building, causing a bit of a panic inside for patients who could see them writhing against the windows.

"Back to the hells with you!" she giggled, clearly confident that she had beat him - or was it them? Either way, the ugly beast was down, and she had won.

No idiot messes with my friend and gets away with it.

Damn right.

They finally were able to get back on both feet moving closer towards the beast. It had been a while since they were in a fight, especially since something so large and ugly. But that blow to the side was pretty serious and knocked most of the wind out of them. But there was no way they were going to show that weakness to this doctor. They were stronger then the two of them could ever be, he would be strong for their new friend who seemed to have more power then she originally let on.

It was impressive to see those massive vines slither up the side of the building and apprehend the ogre. Now they had nothing like that, or had any ties to nature. In fact their approach to situations was a bit more bizarre and off-the-wall. But maybe that wouldn't happen if this was able to hold the beast.

"Nice work.."
"We could've done it better."
"Looks like that beast is done, but is he out?!"

The ogre was taken by surprise by the vines that held them in place, but yet they didn't find any pain or torture in this. Instead, they just merely laughed and let it happen. After a few moments, the Vich shocked themselves, along with the tense vines holding them. The shock caused the vines to spasm and loosen their hold on the beast as it landed firmly on its feet.

"Your trick is impressive, girl. .But you're still much to weak to stand up to us." Bosk chuckled as he began to roll his fist and arm in a circular motion. The motion became quicker and finally the right half of the ogre slammed the fist onto the roof causing a slight tremor which would seek to knock the two off their feet, along with the vines clutching to the building. This being was much more then simple magic and physical prowess. There was a reason for their reputation and these two were going to experience it first hand.

"We're going to have to step up. ."
"Yeah, big boy is more then meets the eye.."

They rolled their shoulders and looked over at their new friend. This was going to be a hell of a fight for their freedom.

"Find out next time, on dragonb-"
"QUIT IT!"

Sariel gasped as the shock ripped through the vines all the way to the roots. She was knocked off her feet, landing hard on her back and staring up at the sky as she struggled to breathe. If she had known he could do that, she would not have held on to her connection to the vines for so long. Controlling them in such a way left her attached and vulnerable. If they had been hacked to pieces, that would have been alright, but this.. She could feel her body spasming as it struggled to recover, the sound of the ogres' taunts ringing in her ears.

"You fucking-" she began, but then he slammed the roof and she was sent flying back several more feet, only to crash back onto the roof again. She groaned, dizzy and confused. Her body ached, but her mind was having a field day. Random flashes of images and sound ricocheted around in her head like it was some sort of playground.

Is she breathing?
No, nothing yet..
What happened?!
She.. fell..
You're lying! I saw you holding her down!
I would never!
Liar!
Her eyes are open!

She sat up, both hands clutching her head desperately in an attempt to rid her mind of the blurred vortex trying to suck her in. In an attempt to focus, she staggered up to her feet, swaying slightly. She looked over to her new friend, but that didn't help. In his place stood a man she hadn't seen in years. He smirked at her and she yelped, taking a few steps back and turning way.

It isn't real.. It isn't real..
Of course it is. He's back. Did you think he would stay away?
He died!
They only told you that to shut you up!

"Grab that sail! We're missing a barrel.. Deep breath now, too late, the planks are warped! Tide's low!" she babbled to herself, clearly more out of her mind than usual. The two knocks to the head combined with the shock certainly weren't a recipe for getting things straight. "Focus! No! Yes! The wood is rotten, call the tailor, this round's on me!" she went on, plopping down in a puddle and mumbling to herself.

. . .
"Has she completely lost it?"
"Maybe more then we ever did."
"Ooooh. Looks like that bump might have messed her up, Tom!"

Now they seriously had to do their best to keep their friend safe. The bump must've really knocked her out of her mind. Or boat, whatever she was rambling about. .It did sound kind of interesting though. Like one of those pirate adventures in the old tales th- Wait, WAIT! We're getting distracted..

Bosk n' Vich were far too powerful to take on in a fight fairly. They were going to have to try and use a new strategy to hold off the beast long enough for them to make a daring escape, even though there was no where to go except off the roof and down to the ground below. If they were to take the fall with her in arms, it might mean she'd survive and they might get out alive too, bit more roughed up then they already were.

"Hey! Doc. Question for you!"

The two headed beast paused for a moment. Were they actually going to humor this tiny human? It seemed so as they waited impatiently for the question. Vich's side of the body was twitching, eager to zap the two patients and satisfy his thirst. This was the time to act quick, what question could they possibly ask to stump the ogre?..

"Which one of you..Did you Mother love more? Was it A. Left head? or B. Right head?"

This question seemed easy enough to answer, as Vich was about to answer, Bosk quickly spoke out confidently.

"Obviously me!"
"...No, Mama obviously loved ME more brother."
"How could she love an idiot?"
"Same way she could love a meathead!"
"Says the one with no brain!"

Their plan worked! The two heads were taken by surprise by the sudden question and putting their doctoral occupation aside to answer it. This lead two the ogre brothers to look at each other and start bickering, just like the patients would do with themselves. Except, it was much more violent. . Bosk actually threw a fist at Vich, and would retaliate the same way. This was the moment the elf and boy needed to escape.

"Good job, how did you know that was going to work?"
"We have NO idea!"
"...Typical."

They moved over to their friend was sitting in the puddle, kneeling down beside her as they extended their arms out to pick her up in a cradle-carry. They looked down at her, nuzzling her head in a sort of 'Hold on tight' gesture. With whatever energy they had left, it was a dash towards the building's edge and right off the side with no hesitation. Time felt like it stopped during their descent and the ground was mere inches away, they closed their eyes as they impacted the ground with a loud thud.

It isn't real, it isn't real..
Of course it is. He's here.
Where?!
Here.

Sariel gasped at the sudden new addition in her mind, the voice making her head snap up as though she had been kicked square in the chin. It was impossible. He had been dead for years, there was no way that he was alive, much less in her mind. Unless.. Unless it was real. Everything she knew back then had been a lie, how hard was it to believe this as truth? She stared at her hands, barely even realizing how hard she was shaking. Her world was falling apart and she was powerless to stop it.

"The forest is gone, we have to move. Get the bucket. Is it over? Yes. No. Yes. We need water. The fire is spreading," she mumbled to herself, struggling to get her thoughts in order. How in the world was she supposed to think straight with two voices talking to her instead of just one? It was impossible!

She felt arms around her and she looked up, finding her friend right next to her. The touch of his head against hers made her mind go silent instantly and she relaxed in his hold. That is, until her stomach felt like it was in her throat and she realized they were falling. She gasped and instinctively threw her hands up in front of her face, lashing together a split-second hammock beneath them with the vines that had been destroyed by the angry ogre. It was barely held together, but it managed to hold their weight for about a second before the rebound sent them both flying back up in the air. The vines fell apart the second they were out of them.

They were flying.

Sariel giggled a bit at the feeling, though the sound held the edge of panic. It didn't last long. She ended up crashing hard against the ground, rolling forward several feet through leaves until she flopped to a stop at the base of a large tree. They had been launched into the forest next to the asylum. The ground was covered in wet leaves and mud thanks to the rain. She groaned and forced herself up, looking around.

We're outside.
Not for long.
The ogre is coming.

"We need to move," she mumbled, going over to her friend quickly, only then realizing that she didn't know his name. "Gotta run. Gotta move.." she said, glancing up at the sky as thunder shook the trees.

As they fell, they were certain it was going to some serious agonizing pain. Then they hit something. It wasn't the ground, but was the hard dirt he thought it was. They looked to see they were in the remnants of the vine from the rooftop earlier. And there wasn't a moment to catch a breath either before they were flung into the air. This was definitely a new experience that freaked them out more then they usually did.

They flailed their arms frantically trying to figure out what exactly to do to return to the ground safely. Maybe it was the lack of having no grasp of gravity that really sent them on edge. The only one who wasn't freaking out about it was him.

"Its just air, you nimrods."
"Wh-Whoa! How do we get down?!"
"RATINGS ARE AT A LANDSLIDE!"

Looking below to see what looked like the tops of trees that were quickly closing in on their waving and flailing. Oh this was going to su-

THUD!

CRASH!

-SSSSSH!

BAM!

Finally hitting the muddy ground below. Their conscious faded out for a few moments, but they could hear themselves yelling to wake up. Everything around them was a blurred brown, green, and gray. Eventually the details returned and they were able to get onto their knees. That was the roughest landing they ever had..The hurt side of his was in even more pain and his right shoulder and arm might have dislocated. That wasn't so b-..Wait, what about the elf?!

Looking around for her, he saw she was just a few feet away from him. All the pain was pushed aside as they scooted over to their elf friend. Luckily she wasn't bad off from what they could see, nor talking to herself.

"You alright, there?.."
"..MY FUCKING ARM HURTS."
"We might need a medic on set.."

She was right though. They were going to have move soon, the ogre was likely going to be on their trail soon enough.

"Need to move.. Gotta run.." she murmured again, watching him as he got up. Frowning a bit, she took note of his pain and how he was moving. He needed a doctor. She couldn't heal, not anymore. The doctors wouldn't help them until they were in cells. For now, he was going to have to suffer if he still wanted freedom. She looked up at the sky again, watching lightning flash. The rain, which had lightened for a while, was making up for lost time. It was now coming in sheets, with the wind picking up. Soon it would be impossible to walk through the mud that was bound to cover the forest floor. They needed cover.

You can run, you can even hide, but you won't ever truly escape.
The rain won't hide you for long. Give up now. Trade the boy for your freedom. He's injured. Easy prey.
No!

"We need to find shelter.. A cave, den.. Something below.." she said, taking the arm of her friend that seemed to not be hurting - or, at least, not as hurt as the other. She helped him to his feet and made sure he was steady before she released him and started walking. The puddles on the ground were rapidly growing, and instead of jumping in them as she had on the roof, she was now avoiding them uneasily.

They'll continue rising..
You don't know anything. Shut up. You aren't real.
I'm just as real as you are.

She forced herself to walk onward, mumbling a bit to herself as she looked for shelter, but still being sure to keep track of where her friend was and whether he was okay. Hopefully he could manage without medical help, at least for now. If they could find a town nearby and act like normal people.. She blinked at the thought and looked down at herself. Drenched pajamas. They were going to need clothes, too! Damn it!

There was no doubt they weren't going far in this condition. If anything the smart move would be to rest fo the night and hope their pain subsided some after some rest. But with the weather looking the way it did, nothing seemed to be going on their side ever since their grand escape. Even when they went to offer their opinion on the matter, it just stung them a bit too much to even try and say much. Guess they were following the elf's lead on this one.

Slowly they rose up to their feet with her help and only staggered for a moment or two before limping close behind her, huddled over from the uncomfort of standing straight up. The rain made the trek even harder along with the mud adding more weight to lift each step. This was definitely getting out of hand and draining on them. It became a fun old game of follow the leader. Except the leader was in much better condition then the other one playing..

The darkness of the skies began to take over, making it hard to even see what was a few trees nearby. They looked around trying to be of some help with a shelter of some kind. But in the distance he could see large hovel that had a decent size space for the both of them. The top was well protected by the moss and rock above. That was where they were going to go..No more, it was just getting too much to bare.

With whatever energy they had left, they pushed aside the pain and hobbled over to the hovel. Of course, due to their blind rush to the spot, it left them unaware of a root below that caught their step and sent flying face first into the muddy ground. Not a good way to start their rest. Grunting as they began to pull themselves into the hovel by their arms and flailing their legs.

How nice it felt not to have rain pouring down and making them weigh even more. A sigh relief as they pulled themelves towards the hovel wall and just laid back gripping their side in pain.

Sariel wandered along, absently looking around for shelter. If she was being completely honest with herself, she was barely paying attention to actually find a place to stay. Her eyes flicked from one spot to the next, not truly registering what she saw. It wasn't until her injured companion hobbled past that she realized he had spotted something. She stopped, watching him curiously until she saw his destination. When he fell, she frowned and went to help, but he was already pulling himself inside. Good. She crawled in after him and looked around.

Not bad. Big enough for the two of them, with a small hole in the back they could squeeze through if necessary. She wondered where that led. Another hole, probably. It was dark. She shrugged and laid her hands on the ground, pulling up a series of small roots and vines through the floor to weave together into a suspended bed under her friend. It was barely off the ground, but it was enough to provide more cushion than just laying on dirt. Once that was done, she pulled up more roots in the middle of the hovel for a fire. They'd freeze otherwise. But first.. She covered the entrance with vines and mud, ensuring they wouldn't be found.

"There. Safe. For now," she mumbled, mostly to herself. She found a couple of rocks on the ground along the wall and struck them together repeatedly until they had a small fire going. That done, she finally allowed herself to relax, sagging back against the wall and staring blankly at the flames.

Do you remember the fire, Sari? I do. You were screaming for hours.
Go away. You're dead. You aren't real.
Surely you know better than that by now.
She has learned nothing.

"Not real. All illusions. Doctors.. fire.. No reality," she muttered, then she blinked and looked over at her friend. "You sleep. I'll keep watch. Gotta stay safe. Can't rest. They're going to find us," she offered, trailing off to soft mumblings as she went back to watching the fire and waiting for the telltale sound of footsteps or shouting.

Ack...

Least the pressure was finally off their feet and they were able to recuperate for a while. And with the elf's clever thinking they likely wouldn't be found tonight. Only by major let-up of too much notice, or magic. Surely the ogre and staff couldn't see through solid objects, right? They were smarter then some silly ogre in a scrub. But there was no way they could take them right now. No, they needed rest and a better plan.

"Feels slightly better.."
"Our fucking ribs hurt."
"...Do we have a med on standby?"

No matter how much they fidgeted it wasn't easy finding the right spot for the max comfort. Everywhere hurt and they were eager just to rest and hope that waking up later would give them some much needed energy. But, what about the elf? Were they really going to leave her up and alone all that time? Maybe just laying back against the finely crafted vine bed and admired the nice little fire that was going.

She's quite the little magician over there.
What other surprises does this contestant have?
Not sure..But its much more impressive then anything we can do.

They shrugged in thought and settled themselves. There was a bit of silence between them before their friend began to ramble on about the doctors, and having no rest. It was unfortunately true. They would be found if they didn't move soon or even made one careless mistake. They wanted to offer something to the conversation, or rather mumblings but what? It was a odd chanced game of winning. They weren't sure if the chances could even get better, but her panicking and mumbling about being found wouldn't help.

"They won't find us." They looked over at her. "We'll keep ahead.."
"And if they do...Hereeeeee's what they'll win!"
"Another beat down by all of us."

"Yeah.." Sariel agreed vaguely, though she was scarcely paying attention to what her friend was saying. She knew that they would be found. It was only a matter of time. A pair of crazies set loose upon the world. Nobody was going to be on their side and she knew it. Anybody they ran into would happily turn them in to get them locked up again.

I like your new boyfriend, Sariel. Mind if I toy with him?
Don't you dare!
Ooh, she's defensive. I say do it!
He's useless anyway. Injured like that? He's only dragging you down.
No, no he's not! He helped me, he cares!
He cares? Eugh..
Which side of him cares? There's more than one. I bet one wants you gone.
N-No, that's not true..
It is, it is!

She stared at the flames still, not noticing how badly she was shaking now or how her hand had curled around a sharp rock as if she was holding a blame. In her mind's eye, she could see him. A tall figure, lurking in the shadows and waiting for his turn to strike. Those cold red eyes, that laugh.. Oh, she would never forget that laugh until the day she died.

Oh? Mm, I'm flattered, Sari. Still thinking of me after all this time? Quite a flattering image you've got there..
I hate you, I hate you, I hate you! Get out of my head!
But why? The fun is just beginning..

Sariel grimaced and smacked the back of her head off the den wall hard. Her intention was to knock herself out to get her mind to quiet, but all that happened was a strong bout of dizziness. Even better. Now her mind was briefly silent and she was still awake to keep watch. Perfect. Now she just had to keep it up until dawn.

Yeeeaaah..She wasn't convinced.

Could we blame her though?

Today was probably one of the most hard to believe days ever. Hell, even they don't believe it, but certainly feel it. Their eyes rolled at all the events that transpired today. All because of one bad check up for his friend. Friend. That was something that never happened before today. No one gave them the time or glance. Who were they? Oh just the three-headed freak that talked to themselves!

Uh..We don't actually have three heads.
Its a figure of speech!
I don't recall anything about a three-he-.
SILENCE!

We'll be right back after this quick break!

Sometimes, it was a wonder they were able to all inherit the same vessel in some order. Of course they would often bicker with each other and it seemed like no one could ever really tell which one was which. It was even hard to give them a direct name since they were all over the place. Maybe one day they'd have a name that was fitting for them. It was the last thing on their mind though.
They needed to just shut their eyes for a little while..Even though the prospect of leaving her alone for a while kind of frightened them.

You guys go to sleep. I'll watch.
...You're out of your damn marble.
What if I want to watch?
...Why don't we all take turns..?
That's stupid.
That's silly.
That sounds reasonable.
That's a great idea.
That's what we're going to do.

So, of course. By their own logic they decided to take turns snoozing and watching over their elf friend. How it was even going to be possible? No clue. Maybe they just needed some way to get themselves to fall asleep for a while.

Back at the Asylum..

"I can't believe you let them get away!"
[BCOLOR=#000000]"Well its not MY fault you fell for the oldest argument in the book!"[/BCOLOR]
"ENOUGH! It's apparent we're going to need to step up our game brother.."
"Yes, brother..But how? They're no ordinary special cases."

The lumbering ogre stomped back through the large metal doors. Their faces were covered with bruises and marks from their exchange. Their scrub was completely shredded and just barely hanging onto their large torso. Now how could they teach those two a lesson they'd never forget. Vich looked over to Bosk with an epiphany.

"Remember what Mom used to get us to stop fighting?"
"You don't mean that ridiculous old Persona-Globe?"
"I do! The Very same!"

They slumped into their room that was given to them for their visit. Of course it was the largest room due to their massive size. The ogre made their way over to the chest quickly sifting through the various tools until they found the one object they needed. Bosk held it up in his baseball glove mitt of a hand and grinned. "Let's see how their personalities deal with each other." They both had a good laugh about it. There would be no way those could even handle the power of the globe. Now it was just a matter of finding the little brats and putting the globe to work.

Two. Hours.

Sariel managed to sit in the same spot for two long hours, her eyes not leaving the fire. Even after she knew that her companion was fast asleep by his change in breathing, she didn't budge. She was keeping watch, in a sense, though she was scarcely paying attention to anything outside of her own mind. For two hours straight, she had been arguing with herself.

Yes. That's what it was. Arguing with herself. The other voices were not real. All she had to do was believe that and they would go away. That's what the doctors always told her. They had to be right. Why else would they be paid so much? Everybody called them experts. Geniuses. They had to know. If she could just believe that she was alone in her mind and everything else was a silly imagining, then she would be fine.

Perfect.

You still believe in fairy tales, Sari? I'm surprised. I thought I got that out of you a long time ago.
Fairy tales?
Oh, yes. The power of make-believe. You think that if you just pretend hard enough and wish upon a star, everything you want will be true..
No I don't! I know that it's true - you aren't real!
She doesn't accept reality, even when it's staring her right in the face. Never has.
That might be my fault. I certainly fucked her up enough. I have no regrets.
We should rip her mind apart once more and find out how much she believes when we're finished!

Sariel couldn't take it anymore. The little den felt claustrophobic, and seeing somebody sleeping peacefully just made her feel worse. She could tell it was still pitch-black outside. It sounded like it was still storming. Nobody would be out searching in this weather. She barely hesitated before crawling out of the den and replacing the vines behind her to keep her friend hidden.

This was what she needed. Fresh air. She needed to walk this off, to pretend.. To pretend things were normal. What would her life be like, if she were normal? She frowned and started walking, going in a big loop through the trees around where the den was. Just one more lap.. just one more lap..

The dreams they had were rather pleasant. Even though, each one of them had their own unique dreams. It might be hard to keep track of three dreams, but when you were as looney as they were it was nothing. And it was a nice escape from what was actually going on in the world.

One was dreaming of a beach far off in the distant world..
One was dreaming of slaying tons of enemies..
One was dreaming of performing live in front of thousands..

Ah what nice realities they lived in, if only they were true. But why did it feel like something was missing? OH! OH SHI-

HEY! HEY HEY! GET UP!

They stirred lightly, looking around half-asleep.
"What....?"
"Is it time to start the show already?.."
"YOU MORONS THE ELF IS GONE!"

Sure enough she was gone. Great, one job..NOT to fall asleep and they did it. Scratching their head as they checked to see if perhaps she moved around the hovel to a different spot. But, there was no where to really check. She had to have left the hovel. What if the doctors found her already?! Without even thinking about it he made his way to the entrance. Vines. Yep, she definitely left and was pretty keen on keeping them safe. It was nice strangely, no one did such a thing..But he wasn't going to let it be just once.

With all of their might they began to tear at the vines as best they could. The thorns only pricked and roughed their hands up but nothing was going to stop them from getting through the barrier to find the girl. And even now, the pain from before woke up too and was beginning to clock in once again on their body. And it seemed like she was no where to be seen in the small hole they managed to get of the outside.

Least it was still raining, that was pleasant to hear during their struggle. Their hands were dripping more and more bits of blood onto the ground. It was becoming desperate to know where she was they finally called out.

"FRIEND! WHERE ARE YOU?!"

Sariel was starting to lose track of how many times she had walked in circles around this same muddy track. Had she even made it around once yet, or had she already trudged enough to count a dozen times? She wasn't sure. Nothing moved, yet everything blew by her. She could hear the rain falling on the leaves above and splattering against the mud below, but she saw no movement. It was a glorious eruption of nothingness.

She found herself standing by a puddle, staring down at the wobbling reflections. There wasn't anything to see, really. Just murky brown ripples tinged with black around the edges. It was almost the shape of a footprint, but twice as long as the step of any human. She continued to stare, seeing a light beginning to blossom in the center.

It was a sunny day, not a cloud in the sky. She laughed as she ran down the docks, the sound of her own thundering footsteps amusing her. The colorful sailboats bobbed alongside, seeming to dance together. People moved this way and that, several preparing a larger ship for a voyage as a few discussed luncheon. She danced her way around them, having too much fun to pay attention to the foot stuck out in front of her.

Drowning. She was drowning.

Her body had hit the water before she had time to gasp or scream. All she could see was blackness. She tried to cry out for help, but her lungs filled with water. A heavy weight upon her back made her squirm. The entire world was closing in on her. Her heart was louder than any thunder could possibly be..

"Stop thinking of me, Sari, else I'll start blushing."

She tore her eyes from the puddle, falling back several steps until she slipped in the mud and fell over. Great. She sighed and flopped onto her back, staring up at the sky that peeked in through the leaves. Blackness. Always blackness. She frowned, hesitantly reaching up to see if she could brush the clouds aside, but then she heard a voice.

Her friend.

She slowly got up and wandered back to the den, her entire body coated in watery mud now. Though she was shivering with cold, she couldn't tell. She felt perfectly fine. 'Numb' may have been a better description. She walked over to her friend, too mentally exhausted to even speak to him.

Could she even heard us?
Maybe we weren't being loud enough..
Perhaps just the tiniest bit louder and sh-

Here she comes!

"Hey! Where have you been? We've been worried sick about you!"

But not a response. Nothing. Just a muddied up girl who looked like she'd seen a ghost. Normally, someone wouldn't bother with that. But they were no regular person. They followed over to where she was headed and sat beside her, and just stared at her for a long while. What to even say first? There could've been a lot of good ways to start th-

"You went in the mud without us? No fun! We would've loved to play along with you!"

A disappointed sigh escaped their lips as they folded their arms over their chest like a child who didn't get desserts before dinner. But that didn't keep them silent for long, as their eyes lingered back over at her again. The ghost like expression was concerning as well, wondering if the voice inside her head was starting to grow too much.. How was it that they never had this problem and were able to function easily?

"..Is that other person giving you a hard time?"
"Should we beat some sense into them?!"
"COME ON DOWWWWN!!!"

Shaking their head as they eyed their friend curiously, hoping she'd give them some light on the problem.

"He's going to kill me."

Her voice sounded distant and hollow even to her own ears. Sariel stared at nothing in particular, barely aware that her friend was even right there next to her. The awful scene from the docks kept replaying over and over in her mind, an endless loop of terror and pain. She could feel the anxiety building in her chest like a block of cement, weighing her down and threatening to kill her just from the stress of it all.

A flash of lightning lit up the den, casting shadows all around. She saw one out of the corner of her eye that looked just like.. him. The one that had ripped her apart, the one in her head. She flinched back hard, falling over backward with a panicked gasp. After a few wild looks around, she realized he wasn't there at all.

Oh. Right. She was just crazy.

Embrace it. Trust in me, darling. I can make the world fade away.
You lie. That's all you've ever done is lie to me.
Insolent brat! Make her kill the boy! Make her listen!
No, not yet. It wouldn't hurt enough yet.

"He's going to kill you too.."

Sariel looked over at her friend, her entire body shaking hard from a combination of cold and fear.
Tonight would not end well.
She was sure of it.

"He is huh?.."
"What? That big ogre?"
"I think she mean's that person.."
"Who's the lucky contestant?!"

Was the person she meant truly that powerful? And why did they want to kill her? They had so many questions but the most important thing was that she didn't lose the battle before it truly began. Whatever voice were arguing in her damn head were going to have to put aside conflicts..Their lives were at stake. And without their proper hosts they likely wouldn't exist. They wrapped an arm around her shoulder and brought the near-lifeless friend of theirs close.

"No..No one's going to kill you."
"Yeah, luckily we can't even kill ourselves."
"We're not getting out this contract so easily!"
"Why don't those punk voices of yours understand that we're in bigger shit then some la-dee-da dance?"
"It certainly doesn't help..No.."

Bringing the other arm around his friend as he tightened the hold around her. They were determined to have her calm down even if they had to actually argue with those voices of hers. And the more they tormented her, the harder it would be to escape the two headed brute likely on their way to get them. The sense of an unusual magic was approaching though and they needed to be ready for whatever..

Sariel was silent at first, simply continuing to shake when he came close and started to hold her. After a few moments, she curled both of her arms around him tightly and tucked her head against his shoulder. He was steady and warm, and now getting soaked with cold mud since she was covered in it. She would have felt guilty had she realized, but she was too absorbed in how nice it felt to be clinging to somebody this way.

He trusts you. Good. It'll make stabbing him in the back much easier.

She bit her lower lip and squeezed her eyes shut, not wanting to see any more shadows that could resemble him. It was just a voice. A memory. He wasn't actually here. She knew that, right? It wasn't like she was going to listen to him and actually kill her friend. Right? An icy tendril of doubt was starting to curl into her mind, leaving her to question herself. How resilient was she, really? How long could she hold out?

"You shouldn't be so close to me," she said, though she made no move to release him. Her mind and body were at war. His comfort was something she craved on a deep level, even as her mind screamed at her to get as far from him as possible before she did something she would regret.

She's scared.
As she should be. It's the darkness inside. One way or another, it will come out.
I won't hurt him!
Oh, you will. And you'll be laughing when you do.
It'll be the one worthwhile thing you do with your life, you useless brat.

"You shouldn't.."

They just held the poor girl close. It seemed like maybe what they were saying wasn't helping in the slightest. But it was already pretty rough as it was. They sighed and just held her close. They even tried to clean off some of the mud on her body. It wasn't bothering them in the slightest really, they were just happy their friend was still alive and not hurt. But it did concern them that she was being tormented by the voices inside her, instead of working with them.

That..Sounds a bit strange.
No kidding.

"Why?..Nothing really bothers us."

Shaking their head over at the girl. Was it the voices telling her to keep us away from her? How absurd! Why would they listen to anyone but themselves. That's right. Damn straight. Nodding with an affirmative look. Whatever could happen, it was likely it wasn't the first time they went through something like it. Really what could she possibly do? Kill us?

You had to linger on that one didn't you.
I'm sorry! Its just funny!
What? Dying?
Sure!
Unbelievable.

They patted their friend on the shoulder and offered a warm small smile. That was their final answer. To just sit there and embrace whatever path was going to open from this and still god only knows what will happen when the weather dies down and they have to be on the move again. So if there was ever a time to try anything, now would be it..Or later when those big goons come back and start talking in those weird silly sentence ending ways.

"We're staying right here. We're not scared."
