Eh... I've actually found the reverse.

In IRL everyone's paranoid of public face, or dealing with a person again later so they keep their opinions to themselves, reserving it for gossip and such.

Note I was raised in a very "Feelings are everything! If something's not nice don't say it!" type of family. So I've grown up around people who I can never get an honest opinion out of.
Though, this goes beyond the family actually. Most people I've met have followed the same ideals, hell the friends I made in High School are a rare exception to that norm.
