Many thought it was the end, another celestial body smacking right into planet Earth, but it was only the beginning of a whole lot of shit. It's said that when the meteor initially hit there was a huge wave of what can only be described as and became known as: blackness. This energy mutated nearly everything it touched, turning much of our beautiful home into a wasteland full of monsters of all types. Though the Earth remained intact, a miracle that defied every law known to man, that celestial orb that hit us merged with us, giving our green and blue planet the biggest sore its ever had.
Monsters started to come out of the black planet, which was named Dark-1 by the governments still standing before the behemoths tore through them. The monsters made Earth their home, decimating any sort of infrastructure we had, tanking any weapon thrown at them, and dissolving any man's will to fight. We humans we're nearly forced back into the cave times, but then some of us got the bright idea of studying these guys. We learned how to kill a few and were able to take back cities and towns, claiming them for small factions. We learned the mutating power of the energy the beasts used and named it "Blackness" because that's all it was, a pure black mist. We made weapons with it and began to survive and rebuild.
According to the books, it was workin' for us humans, the ones scared of getting shot or stabbed by a knife, but then that miracle happened. The thing that allows us to do what we do now; the life chip was created. Suddenly, invincible soldiers started popping up everywhere, no one knows how, why, but one day a group was walking around with these things powered by the blackness inside them. We know now that whatever we had back then wasn't stopping those guys, the life chip regenerates damage at an extremely fast rate, prevents exhaustion, and dampens your need for water and food, it also amps up your brain power. I feel sorry for the bastards that had to fight them.
These zombies formed a group, called themselves New Eden, and began assimilating other groups and creating more of them. They made their own country and no one could stop them, but no one had to. It seemed they achieved their goal and people were able to live without fear for a while, but it seemed they had completed their next goal because they started popping back up again. Except now they had a floating city and to anyone that saw it, it was like staring at the one clean spot on a really dirty mirror. People cowered when they saw the city slowly flying above them, but then their "soldiers" came to harvest their food.
These men were malnourished beyond belief, having spent all their time and energy building that behemoth in the sky just so they could be safe. It was brutal, but the people on the ground wanted to survive, they took advantage of these under powered men of immortality and literally picked them apart. They eventually cracked the code to the chip and shared its secrets with the people of Earth. Humanity began to push back harder in order to recover factories to mass produce the chips and hospitals to implant them. The world was becoming immortal.
As they say; the rest is history. Earth is now a world consisting of gods living in the sky. The Blackness from the chips has become a part of us and we maintain those benefits from the device without the complicated surgeries, but unfortunately those damn monsters are still an issue, but not to worry that's where we come in. The guilds: mercenary squads of highly trained soldiers created for the sole purpose of monster hunting. We fight them all, from the pesky C-1s to the monstrous C-7s.

Hubs are the mains cities that humans live in, they typically set a location above a ruined city, which they build upon, and maintain position there, even though they have the capability of flight. A Hubs carrying capacity varies and obviously depends on the Hubs' size. All Hubs are ruled by a Victor, a person who has gained power through birthright and will only transfer outside the bloodline should the bloodline die out. This means that the laws and opinions on Hubs differ greatly from Hub to Hub.
The Hub you will stay on is a free Hub, governed by the Victor, Victor. You as an individual have just as many rights as the one next to you and you are subject to the law when you decide to break it. Your Hub is known for killing large class monsters and thus is more likely to get contracts for them, but their appearance is rare and no one would like to engage one just for the glory. Any revenue as a Guildmate comes from killing hordes of monsters plaguing your ruined city or hunting areas. In fact your Hub does not use currency, revenue here is a matter of bartering, you are used to it and find out what you need to retrieve in order for someone to make you new equipment.
You are also accustomed to many attractions, bars, and other things to do in your Hub. If you have an interest it's likely there is somewhere in your Hub to go.
Even though Guildmates are bad ass monster hunters they have to file reports on what they've seen to their Hubs' defenses, if currency exists they have to file taxes, and pretty much have to do tons of paperwork as their job helps keep the Hubs safe, so they have to be thorough. Many Guilds are shut down for neglect, you do not want to be fired because of it.
You acquire salvage and other materials during missions which is used to craft more weapons, armor, and ammo. For other Hubs you will trade this salvage for currency to buy already made items, you can then store these in your locker room for more fun later. Keeping track of this is also a part of your job, anything you don't record, you don't have.
Besides physical gain on the battlefield you can also gain renown. Fellow Guildmates, even ones not a part of your guild, measure their worth by kills. By tracking your kills you can show how much of a bad ass you are and inform your Hub on the state of the outside world. You can create fan clubs and get gifts.
[GM: Case and point, the more you keep track of, the more you get, otherwise you'll just get someone yelling at you or scolding you and do it for you. I won't ever punish you for not doing this.]
As a Guildmate your duties are to respond to threats, choose contracts and execute your client's orders swiftly, and keep your paperwork in check. As long as you got that down, you can use whatever the hell you want to take down monsters, we'll have to keep it low key in the Hubs though. Work outside the office will vary and you will not always stay within the bounds of your Home Hub. Some missions may take you inside other Hubs or defend abandoned cities to make way for new ones.

Immortals are humans who have inherited the Blackness gene and are just naturally granted the benefits of a life chip. Few true humans exist at all. The world is mainly populated by these guys. As an immortal you gain the following advantages:
- You never tire
- You never age and you cannot die
- You heal quickly
- You are more durable
- Unable to tell when you are hungry you must plan your meals, your body works oddly with the Blackness and you still require nutrition to build muscle.
- You are susceptible to death if you suffer fatal head trauma or fatal damage to the head.

Blackness is what humans called the energy monsters used to pull off incredible feats such as energy blasts, enhanced strength, and camouflage. Humans first encountered the raw energy in the form of fluid found in the sac of a tiny C-1 monster. That tiny sac then opened the gateway to a plethora of new technologies that put to shame any developments humanity made before the Black Fall. Humanity has found that the bigger the monster the more potent the energy. And in some rare instances it can do things as mystical as evolving itself, altering whatever it powers to become better. Though the Blackness seems to communicate with everything else it affects, maintaining a balance of power.
Many people fear that Blackness will be the end of everything, that humanity will evolve to the point of living nukes, destroying all of its enemies, but taking the world with them. Though with the erratic behavior of the energy and its limitless potential, no one can confirm of deny these beliefs truthfully.
Dark-1 is the planet that has merged itself to Earth's southern pole. Its impact has eradicated much of the world south of the equator, but no one has ever seen it with their own eyes. Satelitte pictures have been taking of it giving people a general idea of its appearance, but no one has dared go near the thing.
Dark-1 is a tiny orb, spanning only 7,000 miles in diameter. It appears solid, but science believes it is gaseous since it is the origin of Blackness and monsters have been seen roaming in and out of it as if it were a revolving door. The planet has its own gravitational pull that forces plant life and any unlucky animal to be forced into a never ending orbit around it. But it remains a mystery.

These are pesky monsters, often something like a mutated mosquito or a giant rat. They typically have no special ability other than being larger than normal, but some do not take on this trait and instead get a venomous bite or a carnivorous diet, making them more likely to attack.
-
These tend to take on the forms of humans. They pose an even smaller threat to combat ready men, but their threat to normal civilians is unmatched. They can spread disease throughout an entire Hub in a matter of hours and are smart enough to get into them. Guilds have to pay close attention in the field because clearing these guys is top priority if they are too close to the city. They generally emit some level of Blackness from their mouth and any open wounds they have. Perfectly healthy C-2s are placed into the C-3 category, they keep their mouths closed.
