Grownups of Iwaku, what's your favourite part of being an adult?

I don't really consider myself an adult yet, despite having turned 18 and moved out and all. Going to uni isn't really giving you the "adult" experience. Not much has actually changed about my life, to be honest - I did a lot of the housework at home and was independent enough by the time I moved out that moving didn't make much of a difference. I'll be an adult when I move into my own place, not with a roommate in halls, and I pay my own bills.

I love the part where I got married too early... oh wait.

I love the part where i pay my own bills... oh wait.

I love the part where I have the illusion of freedom without actually having any and not actually being able to do anything about it... oh wait.

Getting a hairy asshole, you think its hairy now? learn to love it because that shit will get worse and worse. Seriously though, the people that say alcohol is as good as it gets are pretty much spot on.

Not for me yet

I still haven't gone base jumping

Only after that can alcohol be remotely better

Simply having the ability to choose where I go and who I live with. Living under the same roof as my mom and siblings only brings me misery.

Also, I don't have to share my food. 8D

Being moved-out helps- then again I was sheltered so I had learn to a lot of things quickly.

Being able to make the decision that a friend is in enough shit, check scheduling for work and then help move them out.

Lording your age/authority over younger siblings. But I did that before 18.

Any custody issues get dropped, and you're not legally trapped or tied with any nasty guardians/family.
And getting to vote's neat.

wait until you get married or cohabitate

my wife has cordoned off a shelf in the fridge for herself cuz i eat so much

Ah! Alcohol! A joy I keep forgetting.

I no longer have to worry about hiding away anything alcoholic just in case my dad actually stops tiptoeing the line and full on enters the realm of alcoholism. It really helps in having a good relationship with alcohol and not feeling any weird issues cropping up just because I wanna enjoy a drink.

I share an apartment with a fat guy and his child. We're sharing just fine. :3 I was more referring to not having to share with my fatass sisters.

Sounds like you're just a fatty.

I've done things that You Won't do.
Proud to get paid for my most awesome job ever - Interpreting- <3

Another part which I like being an adult is obviously being independent and cook/ clean when I can / want to lol :))

Being an adult brings lots of responsibilities, almost everyone does not want to deal with that, but it is a part of life that we got to suck it up and just do it - inserts Nike's motto here- :)

I can be whatever I wanna be without to much of an expiation to the others.
I can easily say Fuck you and no care if I know I am right >:) ! ( before I couldn't do it cause duuh my parents and sweating words and such )

I love the fact that I can stay very late and not have to explain why I eat oranges or have a shisha after midnight :))

List goes on...

Overall, adulthood is part of life and all of us get there. It is just a matter of how Good we deal with it.;)

Being able to do what I want, when I want to do it. Staying up as late as I want. Eating whatever I want. Basically? Being free to be exactly who I am.

I have to agree with independence.

I lived in a pretty strict household when I grew up. I had to be in bed by a certain time unless I had a damn good reason not to be (virtually the only acceptable reason was school). Our computers in the house were in a communal area that anyone could see so it was not private at all, so if I wanted to spend late nights gaming or chatting or looking at porn (girls do it too you know), I had to always be conscious of the fact that my parents could walk in at any time.

Getting a laptop helped the issue a little bit since then I could just close the door to my room and turn the lights off, but it's not the same.

Now I sleep when I want to, I do what I want to, when I want to do it. I clean when I want to (which is actually quite often). I cook what I feel like eating. I have sex or masturbate when I feel like doing those things. WHEREVER I feel like doing those things. And I can be loud!

So I guess being an adult has its benefits. I still think the responsibilities suck (bills and mortgages and taxes and all that other lame adult shit), but I GUESS it's worth it.

Being able to buy whatever I want whenever I want.

Oh and impromptu trips to wherever I feel like. *Ooo hot-springs sound nice.* *3 hrs later* *soaking in hot-spring*

I just thought of this one- though my family is helpful to the community and tries to offer a few bucks to donations and stuff like that, actually going after strays and helping people is unheard of.

Last thanksgiving, my roommates and I took in a friend and housed her for a bit. We've helped strays. I've donated and left more tips for waiters and waitresses than they ever would- and I don't have to worry about them making me feel bad about doing something that I think is a good thing.
