Great Sands Online (VRMMO RP - Log Horizon style)

Well, like I said, how the skill actually manifests differs between weapons. A magic barrier skill is going to be a lot more effective cast with a shield than cast with a dagger. Plus, the endgame is ridiculous boss fights that take hours to complete, and in which one false move means loss. Sure, everyone might theoretically be able to do everything, but those magical barriers being usable by every player would be a necessity in an endgame boss anyway, because the one Support per 6 players is nowhere near enough to keep up barriers for all 42 of them. Even if everyone could do everything, it's still many times more effective to have a dedicated healer, a few DPS and your tank than it is to have everyone trying to do everything.
Endgame bosses that take hours to grind down sounds rather boring and exhausting, all things considered. I mean, geez, even Dragonball fights don't last that long.

Niishiki

Age: 24
Race: Allyrian
Gender: Female

Appearance
Standing at approximately 175 centimeters Niishiki is a woman who stands at a mostly standard height. Being tall enough to lay her hands on the heads of some of the shorter races while being short enough to acknowledge the height of some of the towering races from below. Her hair is clean and maintained, dyed in a silvery hue of blue and neatly tied in a ponytail at it's back. Making your way down to see her face you'd notice two pale amethyst colored eyes that seemed to squint with a cheerfulness within them. Few signs of makeup decorated the woman's face and if it were present the colors would not stand out enough to show up, although some light gloss could be seen upon her lips. Overall, the woman seemed to take care of herself or rather that's what she'd like you to think.
Personality
"Ahhh! Why, hello there friend. Pop a squat at this table with me, we have business to discuss.. Or talk, whichever works."
Niishiki's player seems to take the roleplaying quite seriously, as she rarely breaks character unless absolutely necessary. She's quite the inviting type and often pressing for player interaction more than most. Within social gatherings or public events, she's more often than not seen by those who don't know her as a pushy person that seems to rarely take no for an answer. Though apart from this she is your ideal Event Host or something of the like. Niishiki can maintain an array of different fronts all at once, moderating, mediating, and facilitating with as many people should they allow her. She's a people person and embraces this side of her character at it's core.
Current Level
Even though Niishiki's been playing a while, she's neglected to level her character for quite some time. Being sidetracked by hanging out with people in game and doing other things within the major city of Terien. She is currently level 20 because of this, and will usually compile excuse over excuse on why she's such a low level.
Weapon
Paleo
A small lance expertly crafted by a unnamed blacksmith from the North. The wooden pole extremely light and tapers towards it's back end. It is glossed over with an ebony polish and at it's core are small white cloth wrappings to soften the grip of it's wielder. The sharpened end of the lance is less than half the size of its overall size, the blackened steel sharpened to cylindrical point and serrated very carefully at it's tip.
Armor Description
Turtle Dogi
Qualifying as heavy armor, this particular garb is anything but. The armour Niishiki is equipped with are lighter than a fair amount of medium armor sets, and bears very minimal defense from anything but frontal attacks. Composing of mostly lightly tailored orange robes and tightly fit black leggings along her legs, the only metal aspect of this set of armor is the plating at her forebody covering from the top of her bust down to her lower abdomen. Coexisting well with her lighter weapon, Niishiki chose this particular armor as it allows for a fair amount of mobility while also allowing her to face an enemy face to face.
Personal Skill
Boor Boar Bore
This skill comes in the form of stance in which Niishiki can take in combat. Upon activation she extends her lance outwards and will remain stationary until an enemy enters within a certain radius of her person. Once an enemy enters its range, Niishiki charges towards the enemy and locks on to them allowing her attacks to ignore a certain percentage of their overall defenses. She is only able to lock on to one enemy at a time as well as not being able to change targets while this stance is activated.
Profession
Politician
Niishiki's social skills are utilized to their fullest potential with her profession. As an armed socialite with a knack for getting on the better side of most people, she spews witty and clever words to press forward the agendas of powerful people within Terien. Though she's not really the most materialistic of people, Niishiki's profession does keep her afloat financially and more often than not has money to spare on herself.

Why does everyone like small text?! If you're using spoilers/tabs already make them at least normal sized!!

Jeez, I feel like I own the eyes of my father, even with glasses on.

This sounds interesting, I'd love to join; even enough to push myself past those "first post jitters." I'll start building up a character, but I can be awfully slow when it comes to character creation.

Also, I have to ask, would Kemonos be closer to furries (actually having fur) or just humans with animal features here and there?

From what I read, it depends on how you created them... "They could be a neko or a full-out werewolf", from what I remember (too lazy to quote).

I'm assuming that most players will go for 'human with animal ears', because going full furry is a good way of getting shittalked by 90% of the player population. XD

Haha yep probably. Though, in fairness, that seems to be the whole point of the race. I do prefer ears to furries myself though.

Thirrin walks towards a small table at the entrance to the small town, there was two dwarves sitting behind it with some parchments in front of them on the table. "Oh, here she comes." one of the dwarves says and clears his throat. "Welcome youn lady, before we can let you go any further, you have to ask some simple questions" he says. Looking a bit confused, Thirrin nods and sits down on the chair at the table on her side.

"Alright, let's start with the basics, what is your name miss?" the dwarf asks as the other dwarfs dips his quill into the bottle of ink getting ready to record Thirrin's answers. "It's Thirrin, Thirrin Pawtre" she answers briefly. I've been playing this game for quite some time, why are they now asking me questions? Just to be jerks once again? she asks herself.

The dwarf asking questions looks at his partner to make sure he recorded everything before moving on. "Alright then lets see... ah yes, how old are you Thirrin?" the dwarf asks. "Well aren't you a rude one... i'm 26, but let me ask for your names, just out of curiosity" she says and the dwarves looks briefly at each other. "I am Baldrick and my partner here is Gudnir" Baldrick answers and makes sure Gudnir had all necessities recorded once again.

"Alright, now i have few questions for you at the same time, nothing too hard though. First of all, what are you? well i can clearly see you're female so let's forget about that question, and last but not least. Could you please describe your appearance to us so we get all the details recorded." Baldrick says and looks patiently at Thirrin, he seemed to have done this job for some time already. "Lets see, i think i was called Kemono.... yes it was Kemono. Then describe myself... Well i am 157 centimeters tall, i weight 53 kilos. Uhm, i'm actually part dog, as you might've noticed" she answers to her best ability, it just felt so strange being questioned like this so suddenly.

"Okay that's good, that's good. Next up is your personality, would you mind describing it? Baldrick asks and Thirrin nods as an answer. "W-well, i can try. It's so hard though.. i'm a clumsy ball of energy, would be the best way to describe me i guess, some people would say something else too... i guess" she answers, once again trying her best. Baldrick raises his eyebrow a bit to such vague answer but there was no use trying to get any better answer right now, they only had limited amount of time.

"Alright, now that we got rid of the basics, let's get to the more technical side of things, what is your level?" Baldrick asks, he seems to have picked up the pace now. Wow, i didn't think that NPC would ask me something like this she thought. "I'm level 32" she says.

"We're starting to run out of time here in a bit so let's just get this over with as quickly as possible. What are your weapons? What is your armor type?" Baldrick asks bluntly. "My weapons? Well i have this tome and enchanted sling... what comes to armor type, it's cloth" she answers quickly.

"Okay last two questions, what is your personal skill and what is your job, if you have one" Baldrick asks briefly. "My personal skill, it's Cannon Barrage... it's an area of effect spell that summons eight illusions of cannons that shoots fireballs on 20 meter radius for four seconds,it has one minute cooldown. And i don't have a job" Thirrin answers. Gudnir finishes recording all necessities and turns around the parchment. "Make sure everything is right" he says.

Name: Thirrin Pawtre
Age: 26
Race: Kemono
Gender: Female
Appearance: 157 cm tall, weighs 53 kg, part dog.
Personality: Clumsy ball of energy

Level: 32
Weapon(s): Spell tome, Enchanted sling
Armor type: Cloth
Personal skill: Cannon Barrage
Profession: Don't have one

Thirrin reads through the parchment and nods. "Yup, looks good to me" she says. Baldrick stands up and bows "It was nice to see ya miss Pawtre, but we have to go now, have lot of work to do" he says and with a snap of the fingers, the dwarves and the table was gone and Thirrin was now sitting on a ground looking a bit confused of what just happened.

I quest and grind for hours and hours to get to this level now they start asking me questions like this? Isn't that something you do first as people join the game? she thought, just how did she end up here in the first place though? Well let's see...

Backstory:
The first minutes in game after character creation, Thirrin got greeted by a tutorial quest, all of it was totally familiar with her, having invested quite some time to few other VRMMOs before GSO. So Thirrin boosted through the tutorial to get it out of the way as soon as possible, doing a 48 hour marathon. By the time she stopped playing, she was super hooked, any of the MMOs before GSO wasn't as good as GSO was for her. But there was this one thing she couldn't summon any interest towards, professions. As other people were happily doing professions along with levelling, Thirrin used her time just grinding and questing. The way Thirrin thought about professions was that she would maybe catch up after she has reached end game and there was nothing else to do.

Hey there, lady! Name's Darius, Level 11 Allyrian with a persuasion towards polearms. Just got out of high school recently, and was thinking that I should get back into this game, so here I am. Let's have some fun, yeah? And no, before you get your hopes up, I'm not a tomboyish girl with a male avatar, just like how you're not a beautiful older woman with an equally good-looking avatar. Nice to meet you either way though!

  • Darius stands at 6'5, a towering, lanky individual with a healthy complexion and an omnipresent smile. His hands are callused and rough, belonging to an individual who spends much of his time holding tools or weapons. It's a common enough trait amongst players of Great Sands Online, all things considered. Freckles faintly dash his cheeks and shoulders, and his green eyes spark with a feral light, full of excitement and wonder. In that same, almost-but-not-quite-inhuman vein, his canines are also rather pronounced, not enough that they could be considered fangs, but enough that it's a bit uncanny.

  • On the surface, Darius is a filthy casual. He's not someone who grinds, not someone who roleplays, not someone who cares for six-hour long endgame raids. He laughs off the mistakes of his party members, jokes about his own ineptitudes within the realm of virtual reality, and simply appears to be a happy person when he plays. What he seeks is not experience of the numerical sort, but experience of the memory sort. Great Sands Online is the last unexplored frontier remaining in the world, after all, and even if he COULD just search for maps online, Darius enjoys screwing around, getting lost, and then dying to field monsters instead. Of course, with a reputation like that, most serious players avoid him.

  • With college entrance exams just about finished, Darius decided to get back to Great Sands Online. He had never been a particularly hardcore player, and used the VRMMO more as stress relief than an actual game, dropping boxes of 99 iron ingots and such on the heads of field bosses, laughing when their heads pop. At this level of the game, he's pretty much still a solo player, and hadn't thought much about guilds or endgame. All he knows is that virtual reality was easily better than reality, and that he wouldn't mind living in virtual reality for the rest of his life.

After all, killing monsters was easier than, say, doing a 9-to-5 mind-numbingly boring office job, right?

When Darius realized that the log-in function was gone, he simply praised the lord and when on with it.

  • As someone with the Profession of Blacksmith, Darius has accumulated a treasure trove of level 10 weapons to be used at his disposal, though none of them are particularly noteworthy, and could be considered 'common-class' weapons. His favourite, however, is that of a seven foot long glaive, though Darius likes polearms in general.

  • Darius just has cheap, fashionably dyed cloth armor with a +2 enhancement from a former friend.

  • Box Drop: A Gift from the Heavens
Box Drop is a utility ability that allows Darius access to his inventory, his bank account, and the guild bank at any time, regardless of location. With this, he is able to call in supply drops whenever he needs it, and a box will quite literally drop from above, granting him all the consummables, crafting materials, or weapons he needs, though every individual supply drop has a delay before it lands in the spot specified. This delay is determined based off a formula centered around Darius's current wealth in comparison to the monetary value of the items, though he can opt to decrease delay by paying gold. If he pays half the price, he gets a 25% decrease in delay. Paying the full price reduces delay by 50%. Regardless, shipping is bullshit. As an endgame ability, Box Drop's utility is marvelous, but as of now…Darius really just uses it to drop boxes on the heads of monsters.

The damage dealt scales off the weight of the objects stored within, obviously.

  • Darius is a Metal Weapon Blacksmith, capable of making non-magical weapons crafting materials.

So? This isn't a game we're playing, it's an RP in a hypothetical world. Yes, such bosses would have been boring in an actual game, but because it's an RP we can timeskip to different parts of the battle like how Log Horizon does it.
Plus, you just haven't played the right games. Some old games where the boss fight kept changing location and tactics and were the size of the entire area were some of the most fun games out there.

Hah shit lol, I answered Erode and completely forgot about the CSs even though I could see Piero's pointing up from the bottom of my screen XD On them now.

@Luma Kemono can range from 'anthropomorphic animal' to 'human with lizard pupils'. Furries would be somewhere inbetween those, although even though the race in general is seen as lowly by NPCs and IC players, and weeby by a lot of other players, people who do go for the 'furry' one would be looked down upon even more just from normal, real world social dynamics.

@Piero Niishiki looks good so far, although 2 points:

- XP can be gained from ones' Profession too, so has she been ignoring that as well?
- I'm guessing you mean 'taper' rather than 'tapir' for the spear's description, since a tapir is an animal XD If not, can I get an explanation for why her spear has an animal attached to it?

@Rauzi unusual way of filling out a CS. I like it :D One thing though - firearms don't exist in this game, though you can't have been expected to know because I didn't tell you. Same is true for Airships. Cannons do exist, but they're very heavy and are only used as siege weapons - a normal character couldn't carry them.

@ERode For a single-stage endgame boss, you're looking at around 90 minutes of gameplay, not 6 hours :D A 6 hours boss would be a multistage one whose dominion was the size of a large town. Also, while his ability is hilarious, it's ridiculously broken and just as no Great Sands GM would allow it, I'm not going to either. How about there's a delay on its use, dependent upon the contents of a box? For example, if he just wanted to drop an empty box on someone it would be instant, but if he wanted to put items within it, summoning would take 3 seconds per kg. Also, there is no Marketplace / Auctionhouse except those you attend in person. Want to sell something? You have to actually walk to a physical Auction Broker and put it up for sale. Only the people within the hall would be able to bid and it would be a real-time auction, although 20 minutes before it was put up for sale the broker NPC would send a PM to anyone who flagged themselves as looking for that item. Otherwise though, the character is fine. Not entirely sure how useful he'll be to begin with, but he's got losts of lovely boosting to look forward to :D

Oh and crafting is split into sections. A blacksmith would come in 2 strains - Metal Weapon crafting and Metal Armour crafting.

@Karakui

Kms.

And also if socializing is a profession she'd probably be a much higher level by now, but unfortunately...

Well... 'socialising' is a profession, if you catch my drift...

@Karakui roger that, just saying though, the idea behind the cannon barrage, was pretty similar to classic meteor shower. Just that instead of randomly meteors getting dropped from the sky, she would've summoned let's say 8 illusions of cannons that shoots cannon balls, but how about fireballs or something.. Anyways, it's not like she would be carrying around pile of cannons :P Was just making it clear. I'll be changing those things soon.

Fireballs are fine, and illusory cannons are fine too, just as long as there's no giant Airship floating around XD Not to mention, that thing would only fit in outdoor or very end-game dungeons that have caves with kilometer high ceilings.

I think that's exactly what he means :P
