Government Gone Bad

"No problem, I won't be in your way. If you need me, I'll be in the other room." Bradley stood up and scuffled off slowly.
She was quite pretty, even though she clearly didn't trust him.
He smiled, it was nice to have company in these times, even though he knew it wouldn't last.

Nix watched him go before she laid on the bed, resting her head on the pillow. Her arm her slightly still, but it was enough that she could ignore it every once in awhile. She closed her eyes.

Bradley stared out of the window, he was drowning in his thought.
Memories of when the city was still alive.
People were different then, you didn't have to be scared that you'd get stabbed or shot. You could just be.
Why did everything had to get messed up? It was so unfair.

He laid down, and looked at the ceiling.
It wouldn't be long before he'd be alone again.
Growing up, the future seemed alot brighter than it turned out to be.

Nix sighed and slowly fell asleep. A few hours later she was up again, sneaking around the house to gather a few things, quietly she slipped out the window without Bradley noticing, she ran quietly into the woods, heading for the lake she grew up about an hour away from the town.

In the morning Bradley woke, he walked to the living room area and noticed that Nix was gone.
He stood in the door opening and looked down.
Somehow he felt sad.. He thought that she would at least say goodbye before she left. He started packing up his stuff, and left.
It was time to get out of the city, and find a place where he could stay for at least a couple of months.

Nix felt bad for leaving, but she knew she had to, or at least thought she did. She had been running for 27 months, alone. Maybe thats why she had survived this long. She still felt a ping in her heart, and part of her wanted to turn around, but she tugged on.

He looked around the room, somehow he couldn't even walk through that door.
He knew she wouldn't come back, she probably didn't even care about leaving him like that, why would she? He was just another stranger.
She was just another stranger, a beautiful one, but a stranger.

He put his back against the wall and slid down, putting his head in his hands.
He was lost before all this happened, but now he was just more lost.

He had to leave everything behind, and maybe that's why this was so upsetting.
Not knowing if life would get better, constantly being in the dark.
Constantly being alone..

Nix reached the lake and smiled, she set the pack down and walked around, collecting some sticks, she'd need them for a fire later. She sighed still, not being able to stop her thoughs.

Bradley had gone crazy, he was breaking down the room.
He was angry, sad, confused.
He was so frustrated over nothing.
Bradley started hitting the wall, his skin started to tear, and his hands started to bleed.

He stopped after a while and just broke down. Maybe it was time to just stop.. It's not like it was actually going to get better.
So what was the point in running?

After hours of drowning in tears, and thoughts he looked around.
The place was trashed, he couldn't feel his hands, they were still bleeding.
He sighed and got up, grabbed his bag and walked out without giving it another though.
