Welcome to Iwaku! This guide is intended to help familiarise you with the site so that you're able to enjoy its many features and feel comfortable navigating to the portions that interest you!

First of all, if you haven't taken a look at the rules yet, you should do that first. Iwaku has a lot of creative freedoms but the rules that we do have are a bit different from what you might be used to seeing. It's always a good idea to be informed of what the rules are like in a new place so you can step in with your best foot forward.

Welcome to the Site

While you're here in New Arrivals, you can click on the button at the upper right side of the New Arrivals section that says "Post New Thread" or click on that link to go and introduce yourself! Introductions can be a little awkward but the community is very welcoming and your intro can be your first step to connecting with people here! If you don't quite know what to say, maybe tell us a little about what kinds of roleplays you like or how you made your way to Iwaku.

You can find out what's going on with the site in Announcements and Events, located at the very top of the page. Changes to the site, as well as rule changes and reminders, go in Announcements. Information about any special community events running goes in Events.

Another place that you should know about is Help Desk! It's another part of Site Orientation and located near the top of the page just to the left of New Arrivals. If you have questions about the way the site works or are having trouble with something not working, Help Desk is the place to go.

You'll also find a link to the Iwaku Staff here. These are the helping hands that volunteer their time to keep Iwaku running smoothly. They can typically point you in the right direction if you're completely out of sorts but for fastest response, you should submit one of the Contact Forms.

Finding Roleplays

If you're thinking about a new group roleplay but want to see if people would be interested in it before you get it all set up or if you want to see what fresh new ideas other people are playing with that you might want to join, Group Brainstorming / RP Search is just the place. If you don't want to brainstorm and are ready to create your group roleplay or join someone else's, go to Group RP Plot Info/Signups instead!

If you're more of a One on One Roleplay kind of player, that's fine too! The next question you'll have to ask yourself is if you want a roleplay with sexual content or not. No interest in bringing sex into the mix? You can look for your future roleplays in Partner Connections. Underneath Partner Connections on the forum, you should see another subsection. Which one you see depends on whether you're an adult (Redstar) or under18 (Bluestar) member. Redstar/Bluestar Connections are where you'll want to post partner requests and look for partners if you are interested in having sexual content in your roleplay.

Please remember that Redstar and Bluestar are separated for legal reasons! You should never roleplay sexual content with someone outside your age group - not even in PM. If it's learned that you knowingly roleplayed sexual content with someone outside your age group, you could face strict consequences. This is for the safety and well-being of all our members!

Roleplaying

After you join a group roleplay or plot a one on one, it's finally time for the main event: in character writing.

You'll find the Group RP Sections here and One on Ones here. Both the Group RP Sections and One on Ones have subsections for Redstar and Bluestar roleplays to go. For tidiness, these threads should have roleplaying content while out-of-character content goes in the signups or plotting threads in Roleplay Connections.

Roleplay Realms

These are large-scale group roleplays that you can join. Each one of the realms is their own roleplay with a different Game Master (GM) and setting. There is a yearly contest called the Worldbuilding and Roleplaying Game Master Challenge (WaRP) in which all members meeting a certain criteria can submit an entry to win a spot in the Roleplay Realms; this is intended to allow GMs an opportunity to create large-scale, long-term roleplays with multiple threads and even subforums.

Community

While you're waiting for roleplay replies, you can relax and get to know other members, too. General Chatting is filled with conversation topics and even some fun games. There's also Showcasing for showing off your solo artistic endeavors (art, solo writing, etc.).

Iwaku has an Iwaku Discord server! Once again, check out the rules and then hop on to say hello!

Thanks for joining me on this mini-tour of the site. I hope it helped you to get your bearings. Best of luck and happy roleplaying!
