Gender Selection in preferences

Yeah, you're totally right. Fuck those people getting stalked and creeped on for inconveniencing you.

I'd like to remind everyone to please keep this thread civil.

I feel like it might also be fair to note... The admins ARE trying to do what's best for the site as a whole - as they've said multiple times. It's a little more inconvenient, yes... but at the end of the day, no more inconvenient than having to read someone's roleplay resume to discover if they're advanced or simple posters, or if they prefer straight or homosexual character pairings. There are people who will skirt the line and trolls who will still exist, yes, but as a whole the admins are trying to PROTECT people the best way they can. That should be noted as what is most important.

No one is trying to hurt anyone or remove anything useful - they're just trying to discourage people from being targeted more easily by those few scummy people who would use Iwaku for something other than RP... Is it perfect or ideal? No. But it's really not THAT big a deal. Things escalate really quickly when decisions are made swiftly, but sometimes change is good - and MOST of the time? Change isn't even noticed after a week or two. I've never had to click on someone's name to find out what pronoun they prefer... I just make an educated guess, and if I'm wrong, I apologize and correct the matter. Simple as that. All this talk about anxiety and stuff... I'm not sure how you can RP with anyone, if you can't even ask someone their gender. Doesn't make oodles of logical sense to me. But if it IS a genuine issue, then I'd recommend you consider adding it into your partner search that you'd like people to detail what pronoun they prefer, cause at this point, that's the only option left to you.

Also... I can take absolutely NOTHING any of the admins or Diana say seriously with the friggin' Buscemi avatars, gosh darnit XD

You took something that's a default for ALL community based websites and basically said "Fuck You." just because some people are retarded and don't use common logical sense.

I seriously think that you took what was what made a lot of people comfortable and made the site more uniform with the rest of the social networking world out there, and took it away.

A) Iwaku is not a social networking site, it's a roleplay site. There is no rule out there that Iwaku needs to conform and be like other sites. It gets to design it's site and policies around what the administration feels is important for IT'S community. You've already seen several arguments in this thread about why they felt this was the best choice. You don't have to agree with it or like it, but you do need to respect it for what it is - which is trying to do what's best for the people who are here. You can SEE how much thought that was put in to it.

B) It's not nice to call people retarded just because you don't like that a decision was made in favor of someone else. D: Other people have feelings and rights too. Their feelings and problems are valid. Do you not realize that lots of people are SCARED and have ANXIETY about reporting issues? Personally, I feel people who are afraid to protect themselves need the extra help from admins over the people who are just too scared to ask questions.

I just woke up, which is never a good time to post

It's always good to take some time to really think before writing responses, comments, or posting knee-jerk emotional reactions on things. Really let information sink in and consider whether or not you're being fair and polite, or if you're making a scene over nothing.

. (We actually wanted to remove the Occupation and Location fields too, but the system has those hard-coded and they aren't easily removed

I can 100% understand why you would want to remove the location field to make the site safer, though I don't know many people who actively put their whole location ( or for that matter, don't put a fictional place) I get that, but if I may ask- barring that the location is an incredibly small town, what exactly does removing the occupation do? I am actually kind of curious why that field in particular was brought ( especially when it is a fill in and you can put Time Lord and nobody would bat an eye).

Can someone tell me where to find these so called gender ice cream selections?

The ice cream option was removed, as to avoid any confusion - there is now just no option to select :)

More for uniformity/it not serving any purpose, in the case of Occupation. It would be a little silly to keep Occupation if we were getting rid of the others. That one obviously isn't much of an issue in itself.

Ahh, now that makes sense. I imagine the hard coding part goes to the fact that the location thread links directly to google maps ( for reasons I have never figured out)

Aye they are gone now. ;w;

It was cute and funny while it lasted.

Mine is usually either a strip club in Texas, Pet boarding... or the Pentagon.

By the way, just in case anyone wondered, spambots actually DO fill out gender fields and use avatars. They can fill out entire profiles and even have small talk conversations. Pornbots are ESPECIALLY good at this. So if anyone is choosing whether or not to join a site based on if they have a gender field option... you should probably research your websites a different way!
