Welcome to the town of Mountain Brook. It's a reasonably small town- well, in terms of population. The wealth of it's inhabitants means that Mountain Brook is filled with large houses with even bigger gardens. Appearance is one of the most important things in Mountain Brook. No woman would dare leave the house without makeup and pristine clothes- no man would dare be seen driving a second hand car. The thought of being humiliated in front of the neighbours haunts many a citizen, and many late nights are had, trying to ensure that their brownies are better than Susan from the PTA's, or that their home is more pristine than John from the office's home.
This competition to be the best isn't just exclusive to the adults. The teenagers of the town are constantly striving to be the best at whatever they're good at. But this desire for success combined with the constant search for identity can be overwhelming for many teenagers, and so, the parties of Mountain Brook often get a little out of hand as they try to forget for a few hours what's expected of them.
However, one night, things go drastically wrong. The next morning, as the host is kicking out the last few stragglers, a boy is found dead. It doesn't take the police long to figure out that it was murder, and suddenly, almost the entire young adult population of Mountain Brook is under suspicion. Interviews are conducted, evidence is hunted for, and accusations are made. Secrets start to emerge, and piece by piece, the carefully constructed appearances of so many in Mountain Brook start to fall apart.
With so many desperate to keep secrets, things start to get messy, and one question starts to appear in everyone's mind.
Who would kill to keep their secrets?
Rules:
No godmodding. All characters are human.
Keep the drama to the IC. If you have a problem with another member, try and sort it out over PM, and if that isn't working, I will act as a mediator.
Make your secrets realistic. It doesn't have to be massive, like "I killed my brother"- but it has to be big enough to have an impact on their life if/when it's revealed.
If anybody just magically finds out another character's secret or figures it out without too much work, it spoils all the fun. Don't do that.
I will be messaging the character who is the killer when I am happy with the amount of characters we have.
If you want to leave, let me know, and I will reassign the killer if necessary, and your character will be killed off.
If you don't post for two weeks and don't give me some kind of reason, I'll assume you have left and will proceed as such.
Commitment would be nice.
This is an LBGT+/MOGAI/whatever acronym you use friendly roleplay. Any intolerance will not be accepted. I will have to ask that you apply this to your characters as well, because otherwise it can get too out of hand.
Relationships? Yes please. More drama! But keep it clean here, and normal Iwaku rules apply. If it goes to sexy times, go to PM please.
Violence is expected, but just don't get too graphic.
Enjoy
Name: Jared Chapman
Nickname(s): He much prefers to be just called Jay.
Age: 18
Gender: Male- He/Him
Sexuality: Pansexual
Secret: Jay is currently in an abusive relationship. His boyfriend frequently emotionally manipulates him as well as physical beatings. This has left Jay unable to trust anyone and unable to relax wherever he is. He wants to leave but can't, and is terrified of what would happen if we went to anyone about his boyfriend.
Personality: Jay is an incredibly secretive person. He kept his boyfriend a secret for four months and nobody even suspected a thing- which, in his current situation, is both a good and a bad thing. It's not that he doesn't trust others- it's more that he keeps secrets if he feels like they're things that nobody else should know. If you ever need somebody to confide in, you can always trust Jay, because he will more than likely take your secret to the grave with him. He's a very trustworthy person and many do confide in him.
He's very relaxed- or, at least, he pretends to be right now. That's how he used to be, anyway. He had a great sense of humour- maybe not for telling jokes, but certainly for appreciating them. He mightn't have been the life and soul of the group, but the group always seemed to be missing something whenever Jay wasn't slouching there, making the occasional sarcastic comment and laughing at everyone's jokes.
Underneath the surface, Jay is a very intense person. Combined with his pride, this makes for a deadly combination. He would rather die than let anyone spill his secrets- and that was back when his biggest secret was that one time he and a bunch of friends got drunk and streaked up and down the quiet suburban road. Now, the fear controls him more than his pride.
Other: N/A
Age: 18
Gender: Agender (they/them)
Sexuality: Asexual, likes girls romantically
Secret: They have Paranoid Schizophrenia. They suffer from visual and auditory hallucinations and delusions. They think that everyone can hear their thoughts. They know that none of the things they think, hear, and see are real, but that doesn't make them any easier to ignore. They have gotten pretty good at hiding it, because their hallucinations are a big inspiration to their art. They are worried that if people find out and they have to be medicated, they won't be able to make art anymore.
Personality: Over the years, Arin has perfected their image as a cool, mysterious, artsy kid, but that image only really works if you don't talk to them. Once they open their mouth, all pretense of being cool flies right out the window. They are constantly anxious and usually about five seconds to a complete meltdown. They have issues trusting people, because of their delusions, so they try not to get close to anyone. They are content to remain a distant, untouchable figure.
Other: They have a tattoo on their left wrist. It talks to them.
Name: Zoe Morales
Nickname(s): Zozo, Zo
Age: 17
Gender: Female / She, her, hers, herself
Sexuality: Straight
Secret: When Zoe was in ninth grade, she was about to fail because of her terrible grade in biology and English class. She had C's in every other class but in these she had an E and if she failed, she would have to stay back. So she went to her teacher, Mr. Frederick Lang's house and offered to have sex with him if he raised her grades to an A (he taught both classes). He agreed and they did the deed right then and there, however when they were done, Mr. Lang went back on his word and kicked her out of his house saying that he didn't have to do anything for her and she should have made him sign something to seal the deal.
Zoe went back home enraged and devastated that she had done something so dirty and had gotten nothing out of it. However two weeks later, she began to feel nauseous all the time and found out she was pregnant. She went back to see Mr. Lang and threatened to tell everyone that he had raped her, and if they asked for proof she would get a paternity test when the baby was born.
Backed into a corner, Mr. Lang raised Zoe's grades and then readied to leave town, but Zoe extended her blackmail to keep him in town just in case she needed extra cash to take care of her baby. When she had the child nine months later, Zoe comically named him, Richard 'Ricky' Langston.
All though they were extremely disappointed, Zoe's parents (who think she got pregnant by a senior who graduated) support their daughter and the baby.
Personality:
Pre Mr. Lang, Zoe was a sweet girl who was loyal to her friends and protective of her family and values. She had a large array of friends but only a few truly close ones. She was the type of girl to have family game nights with her parents and right long letters to her grandparents because they couldn't figure out how to use computers. She was the type of girl who, if she saw someone struggling, she would help them out as best she could.
However, post-Mr. Lang, Zoe got a taste of victory and refused to let that feeling die. She became cunning, manipulative and two faced. She would make passive aggressive comments to her friends when they did something she didn't like and she started to spend less time with her family. She would play the good mother in public but then guilt trip her parents into babysitting her son so she could go out. However she isn't completely negligent when it comes to her son. She does the best she can for her son's reputation and pushes and claws her way into the neighborhood motherhood groups to get her kid invitations to lavish birthday parties.
