The premise of this game is incredibly simple: It revolves around a single character, for the purpose of reference known as 'Jack.' In each post, you must write a one-sentence scenario where Jack experiences something either drastically fortunate or drastically unfortunate, countering the action described by the poster before you. If that's confusing, allow me to give an example:

Post 1: Unfortunately, a gust of wind blows Jack off a cliff.
Post 2: Fortunately, Jack has a parachute!
Post 3: Unfortunately, the parachute doesn't deploy.
Post 4: Fortunately, Jack is caught by an angel.
Post 5: Unfortunately, the angel drops him.

...... and so on and so forth in perpetuity!

Now, why don't we start off with:

Unfortunately, Jack is bankrupt.

*This is a slight variation on an old forum game from a site I used to be on quite a lot, and alas, the name of the person who originally inspired the idea is not known to me. But, if anyone is familiar with the source of this madness, please feel free to share!

Fortunately, Jack found some money on the ground!

@Cartoonicat

Unfortunately, said money was counterfeited.

Fortunately, he was still able to buy some food with it.

Unfortunately Jack was caught trying to use counterfeit money by the clerk.

Fortunately, the clerk was Jack's brother.

Unfortunately, a police officer was in the line behind Jack and he was arrested anyway.

Fortunately, Jack's brother defended Jack.

Unfortunately, Jack's brother's testimony on his behalf would have to wait for his trial.

Fortunately, the case jumped the queue and Jack's trial was held the next day.

Unfortunately, Jack's lawyer wasn't very good because he didn't have any time to study the case.

Fortunately, Jack's lawyer was fired.

Unfortunately, the state wouldn't pay for another.

Fortunately, a lawyer hired themselves.

Unfortunately he wasn't doing the work pro bono.

Fortunately, Jack's brother paid for him.

Unfortunately his check bounced.

Fortunately, the lawyer didn't notice.

Unfortunately, Since there was evidence that Jack did, in fact, use counterfeit money - the jury still ruled Jack guilty.

(I feel like a villain I've been getting unfortunately so much lol)

Fortunately, the jury was found to be bias and a retrial had to be done.
