Forgiven not forgotten

Marcus kept following the man and got quite surprised when the newborn stopped and took up his phone. Who were he calling at this hour? Marcus were too far away to be able to hear what they were saying even with his vampire hearing. And he didn't want to get closer since the newborn probably would notice him if he did.

The newborn vampire kept standing at the same place for a while as if he waited for someone, could he have called the police? Normal people would be asleep at that hour.

Soon there came a car and picked him up, obviously not the police. He was faster than a human but faster than a car? That depended on how fast they were going to drive. He decided to climb up on a roof and follow the car by jumping from house to house, then he wouldn't have to run after it and could take shortcuts. He couldn't loose the newborn, if he did and the guy started to go berserk, then if the council got to know about it both of them would probably be killed. Maybe letting him go was a mistake. He kept following the car while he texted Aliced.

'He went into a car, am following it. Send some people to look around in the area in case things goes out of hand.'
He knew that Alcide wouldn't say no, so when he felt the phone vibrating when he got the reply he didn't care to look at it. He were busy holding his eyes on the car. If vampires patrolled the streets then even if the newborn started to go berserk they would be able to stop him. Just in case he would loose the boy himself.

An uneasy feeling followed him the whole way back, and as soon as they were in a neighborhood he knew well-enough, and one that didn't have thugs hanging about doorways, he spoke up, "Um, Jess, I know the way back now...I think I can get home from here, okay?" Smiling weakly, he saw her nodding, not saying anything to him, before pulling over on the curb.

"Be careful, Kace," she told him as he made a move to get out of the car, "I...I don't want you getting hurt, 'kay? I l--" she cuts off abruptly, and he's hoping that she was about to say "I love you," but caught herself. If that was the case, maybe he still had feelings for him. There might be a chance yet, he thought to himself, popping open the door and getting out.

"You be careful, too, Jess. God only knows what sort of crazies must be around tonight..." Waving as she drove away, feeling simultaneously better and worse than earlier, he began walking in the direction of his apartment, not even daring to think what his landlord might believe when he came back at such a late hour.

Marcus became more daring and decided to keep closer to the man than before, even if it was risky and he could be seen. On the other hand even if he were seen by the newborn it wouldn't matter, it wasn't like he could escape from him as he were now. It had been a bit of a shock that the boy hadn't even tried to drink the girls blood. He had thought that the blood lust would have kicked in already. But he didn't really remember his own time as a newborn, and he had heard stories about some attacking humans just when they were changed while others had been able to not be bothered by the blood for some hours and sometimes even days after their change.

He noticed that some vampires walked not far away from there, so Alcide had already gotten his spies out. Even Marcus got impressed with that man sometimes.

Marcus had actually wished that the boy would have attacked the girl in the car, that would probably have woken him up if he had attacked someone he cared about. It would probably make him feel really bad for ten or fifty years, but it was a short time for a being that lived for an eternity.

Kace walked quickly, trying to get home as soon as possible. Biting the inside of his cheek, he tried to keep all his doubts about the man earlier down, but was having a difficult time with it. Finally telling himself that it didn't matter, that he could just go to sleep as soon as he got home, and in the morning none of this would matter. Reaching the building he lived in, he went up the rickety metal stairs to his apartment on the third floor. Having to walk by the second floor apartment, he saw Jake...or Jason...He could never remember the man's name. Jake lived beneath him, and most nights couldn't sleep, so he would hang out on the small balcony in front of his house.

Passing him, he nodded shakily, saying, "H-hey...Jake...?"

The man smiled, so Kace knew he got the name right, "Hey, Kacey." By Kace's expression, it was obvious that the man was wrong.

"It's just Kace," he told him, and was about to say more, but was cut off by a deep pang of hunger. Grimacing, and nearly falling to his knees in pain, Kace felt hands grabbing him.

"You okay, Kace?" he asked, getting his name right this time, and trying to pull him to his feet again. "You need a hospital?" Before the man could say anything else, Kace had turned around, hardly thinking anymore.

Sinking his teeth into the man's neck, he was, at first, surprised by how his blood tasted, and almost came to his senses. After several seconds, he did, and pulled back, fear and revulsion filling him. Shaking his head, he stuttered to himself, hardly comprehending what he had done. But he knew enough to know that the man from earlier couldn't be insane, not if he had done this. Turning around quickly and running down the stairs, he tripped over his own feet, tumbling down the remainder of the stairs before being dumped at the bottom, dazed, blood on his face and clothes.

Marcus stayed outside of the apartment building, sitting on a roof right across the street so he would be able to see threw the windows. He heard people talking from inside the building but it only sounded like mumbles from that distance, mostly because the wall were in the way.

Suddenly Marcus noticed the smell of blood, it definitely were from inside the building. Smells were easier to pick up than sounds, and a vampires nose were probably better on picking up blood than a shark. He jumped down from the roof and landed without needing to use his hand to support his landing. Another vampire that Alcide had sent out were on his way because he also had smelled the blood and knew about the newborn, but Marcus gave him a sign to leave everything to him until he said something else. So the vampire waited while Marcus went into the apartment building.

He arrived just to see the newborn stumble down the stairs and a man trying in panic to run up the stairs but falling over because of the blood loss. Marcus walked past the newborn and took a grip at the other mans arm and pulled him up.
"Don't hurt me." The man begged but for death ears. Marcus broke the mans neck in less than a second. As the vampire outside heard the sound of the mans neck breaking he walked in.

"Take care of the body." Marcus told the other vampire and threw the body to him. As the vampire had disappeared with the body Marcus went to the newborn and offered him a hand to help him get up.
"We should get back to the hotel before the sun gets up." He said without having any worry in his voice, as if what had happened was completely normal. Well, it was normal, for him at least.

Kace shook his head, trembling slightly. Even though it wasn't helping in the slightest, he was breathing hard, a panicked look in his eyes. "N-no," he breathed, "....you weren't lying...you killed...Jason's dead...Did I do it?" he asked no one in particular, feeling shaken. He didn't take the man's hand, still remaining on the ground.

Again, he had the weird feeling of not having a racing heartbeat after something traumatic happening. Taking shaky breaths now, trying to calm himself down, he brought his knees to his chest, not wanting to move at all. Thinking to himself, Thank God I didn't attack Jess, he felt slightly better that it had been Jason and not Jess, though it didn't make it any better. If he had hurt Jess, then he didn't know what he would do.

Using a hand to wipe the blood off his face, he stares at it for several moments, before wiping it on the knees of his pants.

Even an idiot could notice that the newborn was in shock and had a panic attack. But at least he had started to realize fact, maybe when he calmed down he would once again believe that it was because of drugs. Or maybe he had actually learned this time. "We need to get back to the hotel, the sun will rise soon. It's important for newborns to sleep during the day hours to maintain their health." He told the shocked man and pulled him up to his feet, not caring if the man wanted it or not.

"You can have your breakdown back in the apartment, but for now get yourself together so we can go." He didn't really believe that the man would pull himself together just like that just because he told him to, but he could at least hope. At the same time he heard a car outside. "Seems like we'll get a ride back." He mumbled, clearly smelling Alcide in the car.

Kace shook his head again as he was pulled to his feet, swallowing hard. His mind felt like it was moving at a million miles an hour, without taking his body along with him. Still, he had to force himself into a standing position, feeling like he had to move now. Hearing the car, he shoved his hand into his pocket, still feeling a sense of detachment.

He could also feel himself going through what his psychology teacher in high school had called the 'stages of grief'. He couldn't remember the exact order, but felt confusion at what had happened. "Why...?" he asked, his voice feeling like it cracked.

((Sorry for the short reply.))

(Don't worry about it, I weren't much better in the last post anyways xD)

Marcus dragged the newborn vampire with him to the car, since it didn't seem like he would be able to walk by himself anyways. "Why what? Why did I kill that man? Why are the car picking us up? Why are you a vampire?" He asked the confused boy. It wasn't easy to answer such a vague asked question. There was at least one hundred things he could have meant with that question after all.

He pushed the boy into the car, and then walked into the car himself and closed the door. Alcide sat in the front seat and started to drive as fast as the door was closed. "Take some deep breaths, collect your thoughts and calm down." Marcus told the boy. "We should probably wait with the questions until after you have calmed down." He proposed, the boy would probably not be able to take in the information that well anyways if he were in shock when he got it.

Marcus leaned back in his seat and didn't care to put on a seat belt, Alcide didn't bother to put on a seat belt either. It wasn't like they would get hurt that badly if the car crashed, even if they broke a leg it would heal within a couple of hours anyways.

All three of the man's questions were exactly what Kace was feeling, in a reverse order. However, he didn't voice any of them, again feeling as if he was being treated like a child as the man dragged him along. Considering running when he was pushed into the car, he abolished all thoughts of that, not wanting a repeat of what had just happened.

Feeling sick to his stomach as the car began moving, he barely heard the man speaking to him. Leaning his head against the window, he unconsciously crosses his arms around his chest, again noticing the crack in his glasses. I'll have to get them fixed, he found himself thinking, wondering just how he must look because of the crack. It wasn't very big, but was definitely noticeable. Wondering why Jess hadn't said anything about it, probably because she figured it was because of his 'mugging,' he loses his interest in it, and lets his mind wander off.

He had to, he figured, come to terms with what had happened, that he was now a vampire, but it still seemed crazy that such things even existed. It felt like his whole life was being changed, even though it was, but it still made him feel slightly remorseful.

It seemed like the newborn was thinking about a lot of things. Marcus thought it was for the best to not wake him up from his thoughts by talking to him, since he seemed to get more panicked every time facts came up for the moment. It was a good thing that the boy were able to calm himself down, or at least that was what it looked like to Marcus. Maybe he would be ready to talk once they were at the hotel again. Alcide had made sure that one of his men had gotten some blood bags for the newborn vampire, even though he already had eaten it was still good for him to eat until he was completely full, or else he could loose control over the smallest things. That was the curse of being a newborn, unable to control the desires. Something that must be learned with time.

When the car were close to the hotel Marcus decided to break the silence since there was something he still didn't know. "What's your name?" He asked the boy. He would need to know the boys name at some point, and just thinking 'the newborn' or 'boy' made him feel like he were thinking about a baby.

Though newborns were a bit like babies. Driven by their desires and trying to get to it not thinking about the consequences. To become a vampire were pretty much like being reborn, you had to learn everything a new even though you remembered it from your last life.

Kace was shaken out of his thoughts by the sound of the man's voice. Lifting up his head, he mumbled, "Kace Willows," not much caring for conversation. He knew it was an odd name, even for today's world, where anything and everything went when it came to names, but was hoping that the man wouldn't say anything about it. He would know the horrors of having a weird name; he'd received hell for his own in high school.

Not asking the man his name, figuring it didn't matter right now, he resumed his silence, wondering if he should call Jess, tell her what happened. He didn't know what the man would do if he did so, so he remained still, only moving to push his glasses further up his nose when they began falling.

His mind turning to what he would do about his job, whether he would be able to go back to photography once everything was sorted out, he decided he would have to take a decently long hiatus, if only to let him get accustomed to everything.

Marcus was glad that the boy responded at least, somehow he had thought that he would be ignored. Kace Willows, he didn't thought about if the name was silly or if it fitted the boys image or anything like that. A name was only a name, he should know, he had used around twohundred different names during his life. Or death, however people wanted to see it.

Kace stayed silent after telling his name, not showing any interest in knowing the older vampires name. Marcus didn't say his name to the boy at that time since he wasn't asked. He could as well wait until he would give the boy all the information that he needed.

As the car stopped, Marcus opened the door and walked out of it, waiting for the boy to come out after him. He was pretty certain that after what had happened, the boy wouldn't try to run away. At least not at the moment. Even if he tried to run away it wouldn't be hard for two vampires to catch him, it wouldn't be hard for himself alone either. Alcide waited in the front seat of the car for both of them to get out so he would be able to park the car.

As the car stopped, Kace sighed, hesitating for a moment before opening the car door. Stepping out of the vehicle, he glances longingly towards where he thinks Jess must be by now, probably at home wondering whether he was really fine or not. It would be something she would have done, worried about her if she had called him about a possible mugging. Forcing himself to look away, he turns towards the hotel, shoving his hands into his pockets.

His gaze shifting towards the man, the light changing to a more sad one, he figures, At least he didn't say anything about my name... From nearly every employer he'd had, there was always some quip about where he could have gotten a name like Kace Willows and if it was fake or not. The routine got tedious after a while, and it was somewhat nice to break from it, even in such a circumstance as this.

Almost mechanically, he begins walking towards the man, still slightly in shock from what had happened.

Marcus looked at the man as he stepped out of the car. He didn't try to run away, which wasn't a surprise at all. He still seemed to be in a chocked state, it made Marcus wonder a bit what would happen when he got out of his shocked state. What he would say and what he would do. Everyone reacted differently when they became a vampire. When the worst had passed then they could get angry and try to attack their maker, or just leave and try to make it on their own. Others got used to it very fast and didn't dare or want to leave their maker for hundreds of years. When making a vampire without asking them about it, which was the case for eighty percent of all vampires, the outcome could be anything.

Few vampires actually pretended to be humans and got close to people then asking them when they thought the human would be able to make it if she or he wanted to become a vampire. If the answer was no then they erased the humans memory. But those vampires were very few, Alcide was one of them. Also there was them who only turned people who were about to die. But most vampires didn't care, they told their victims first after they had turned them, sometimes they had known the human for a while and thought it would be fun to travel with that human. Other times they had just met the human. Sometimes they just happened to eat on a human and suddenly think that it would be fun to turn that person.

Marcus laid a hand on the newborn Kace's back and walked towards the hotel room. Once the doors to the car was close, Alcide drove it a bit away to a parking lot.

Once in the hotel room Marcus took off his long coat. "You should probably get some sleep, the bed is in the other room." He told kace as he hung his coat on the hanger beside the door. He was pretty certain that the boy would have a hard time listening when he were in shock, a good nights sleep and a blood bag in the morning would probably fix that.

Kace hated the way the man placed his hand on his back, like he was a father or some sort of teacher. Biting the inside of his cheek, he, being more or less led along, walks along, a seemingly permanent frown on his face. Looking down at his shirt, he sees that he still has blood on his shirt, and sighs in disgust, deciding he now hated the color red. Glancing behind him for a second when he heard the car driving away, he turns forwards, the dour expression on his face not shifting in the slightest.

Inside the room, he finds himself remembering the last time he was in here, which wasn't too long ago. Slowly and simply nodding as the man suggests he might find going to sleep would be beneficial, he takes his hands from his pockets, revealing the slight red marks imprinted from the seams of his jeans.

Not saying anything, he pushes open the door that the man had spoken about, looking at the bedroom. Though he didn't think he could sleep, given the circumstances, he felt like he could sleep forever. Barely glancing back, he shut the door, just wanting to deal with everything in the morning.

Marcus let the boy be alone for a while. He didn't know if Kace was sleeping or just staying quiet in there, but he thought it was better to not check on the newborn. Personal space was something Marcus valued a lot. But it was harder to give a newborn personal space when that could lead to unnecessary deaths.

But the only way out from the apartment were from the room Marcus were in, the bedroom didn't have any windows since the hotel was mostly used by vampires. Marcus saw the sun go up, he was so old now so the sun didn't bother him that much. It stung a bit in the eyes but his desire to only be awake during the night had long disappeared. Some vampires learned to suppress the desire of sleeping during the day so that they could walk around like normal humans, others simply kept being in the dark. They were night animals, predators. But they could change it. They didn't really need sleep, but many slept just to get away from the sun, others because they liked to dream. No one really understood why they still had dreams even though they were dead, but most of them never questioned how they could walk when they were dead so why question the dreams?

He sat on the couch and just waited for the man in the other room to wake up, if he even fell asleep at all. At some point Alcide went into the room with some blood bags and left them to Marcus. He wondered if the boy would drink it, maybe he would refuse at first. He had heard stories of newborn refusing, some because they didn't want human blood, others because they wanted to drink directly from a human so they could feel the heart beat at the same time as they drank. Though he doubted that the boy, Kace, would be the last example if he were one of them.

At first, Kace simply lie in the bed, not feeling like he would be able to sleep, especially not given the circumstances. After a while, he took out his phone, glancing through all the pictures he had taken on it of Jess. Sometimes she would be with him and their other friends, but other times it was just her. Each picture made him feel a pang of sadness at what had happened, but they also made him feel a bit better, just seeing captured moments of her happy.

Glancing at the battery readout on it, seeing he was running low, he placed his phone on the nightstand, turning it off. He didn't want to run out of batteries, and lose that smile, especially if he was never able to get a charger for it.

Sitting in darkness now, he took off his glasses, setting them down next to his phone, deciding that he would also have to deal with the crack soon enough. Not bothering with the bedclothes, he turned over on his side, closing his eyes, still in all of his clothes, save for his shoes, which he kicked off and left beside the bed.

Several hours later, he awoke again, and at first, he didn't recognize where he was. Nearly panicking again, he looked down, seeing the chip in his glasses, and remembered everything again. Even Jason from earlier, a memory that gave him a sick feeling in his stomach. Standing up, he picked up his phone, replacing his glasses on his nose, and opened the door, returning to the room. Squinting against the sudden light, he quickly regained his bearings, a frown forming on his face.

Marcus heard when the boy walked up from the bed. He stood in the kitchen in another room at the moment and had completely forgotten about that the sun still was up since the kitchen didn't have a window. It came back to his memories when he heard the door to the other room being opened. He immediately walked back into the other room where Kace were Squinting at the sudden light.

"You're not used to the light yet, it will take some years before you can go into the sun without being bothered by it." He explained and threw a blood bag towards the young man. He should have good enough reflexes to catch it easily by now, but you never knew with newborns, some needed more time than others to get used to everything like the new faster reflexes. "Drink it, you don't want to loose control over yourself again." He said as he walked towards the window and draw the curtains over the windows so that the room would get darker.

Surprised at himself by how easily he had caught the bag, knowing he didn't have the best of motor skills, it quickly turned to slight revulsion as he saw what was in the bag. About to protest and say that he couldn't--wouldn't--drink the blood, he remembered again what happened to Jason. Oh, God, he thought, he's dead now...Feeling like he was about to throw up, he leaned against the wall briefly for support, closing his eyes.

After a moment, he reopened them, looking down at the blood bag in his hands, an odd look on his face. A while passed, before he delicately opened it. The smell hitting him instantly, he resisted the urge to throw up again, sighing, heavier this time.

It took him a while, but he finally put the bag up to his lips and drank some of its contents, again surprised by its taste. Pulling away for a second, to brace himself again, he drinks more of it before he has to pull away, still not used to both the taste and feel of it going down his throat. Finally finishing it, he says, his teeth slightly stained red, "How...how do you do it? Get used to...it..."
