[fieldbox="Lord Keadan Lorgain, #ccccff, ridge, 7, Monotype Corsiva"]
| Age: 24 | Birthdate: March 6th, 254 NE | Gender: Male | Ethnicity: Caerleon | Sexuality: Heterosexual |
| Height: 5'11'' | Weight: 160lbs |
[/fieldbox]

Appearance:

He wears solid black from head to foot.

Personality:
Keadan is quiet to the point of being nearly silent. He rarely speaks, instead tracking the world around him with a perpetual frown and disconcerting stare. He is incredibly private and withdrawn, rarely seeking out the company of others beyond what he absolutely must. While he may typically come across as cold, he doesn't particularly intend to alienate others, but is rather acutely aware of the difficulties involved due to his handicap (see weaknesses). While he can think quite deviously, he rarely acts on such ideas as he sees no reason to harm others without cause.

Likes:
Keadan is very fond of poetry, history, and writing or reading of any kind.
Dislikes:
He despises loud, busy areas such as large social gatherings or markets, or anything that involves a great deal of noise.
Fears:
Perhaps his two most notable fears are loneliness, and being inadequate.
Secrets:
Only a few of the servants he employs are aware of his ability to read lips. He also has a mental strategy outlined that would allow him to monopolize the entirety of black market trading in Caerleon and most of the surrounding kingdoms (see history).
Strengths:
He is fairly good at business, and his ability to read lips occasionally allows him to learn things of interest without others realizing his awareness.
Weaknesses:
Most notably, the fact that he is deaf can make communication extremely inconvenient, and at times put him at risk as well. He also has a habit of extreme self-reliance and failing to allow others to help him, no matter how badly he might need it.

Backstory:
Keadan was born the only child of a Aranin Lorgain, a general who served in the Rebellion of King Rufus V from its inception. His father was quite middle aged and already in possession of the land (a border stronghold formerly called Fort Hastain which Aranin besieged in 247 NE) granted to him by King Rodric before he had Keadan. His wife died when the boy was only two years old. Entirely attentive to his service to the crown and its military, Aranin Lorgain was rarely home, and took his son with him wherever he went on military business. Unable to participate in anything exciting that his father took part in, Keadan took to observing and remembering. Eventually his pent up boredom released in the form of writing short stories and poems, every now and then putting a simple tune to one of them. He wrote about the battles that his father and the other men spoke of, and shared his work with anyone who felt at all inclined to read it. Within a few years, he became recognized for both his exceptionally detailed and accurate accounts of Caerleon's brief history, but also his more dramatic, romanticized version of events.

During the Plague of 259-60 NE (recounted in one of his most famous poems, The Mark of Death and also referenced in The Eyes of Fate, which describes the birth and early life of Princess Orlagh in dramatized form), Keadan contracted the plague and his father took him to be treated by a so called 'healer' living on the border. For days the 'healer' refused to allow them to see each other while he 'treated' Keadan, insisting that his work would fail and Keadan would die if he were to be disturbed, and other such nonsensical drivel. All the while, he continued increasing his fee by the day. More and more continued going wrong throughout the weeks that followed, until the final straw came with one of the healer's methods rendering Keadan permanently deaf. It took time, but he eventually recovered from the plague, albeit with rather a weak constitution that has persisted ever since. Over the following years he learned how to read lips, and while he can still speak, he very rarely does.

Six years ago, the border city of Gerana near Castle Lorgain began to experience difficulties with trespassers and bandits from the neighboring kingdom of Shancera. Thefts and vandalism were frequent, and for a time Lord Lorgain was unsuccessful in solving the problem. Shortly thereafter, he was killed in a skirmish with the bandits. Even after an appropriate time to mourn his father had passed, he continued to wear black, and even now still does. However, upon hearing the news, Keadan took it upon himself to personally barge into the throne room of the King of Shancera, demanding to know if he had sanctioned the action. The exchange was poem worthy, in part simply for the impropriety of it, but also for the dramatic style of nonverbal communication that ensued.

Due to being stretched thin on other fronts, the King of Shancera chose not to inflame the potential for new conflict, and offered a handsome reward to whoever would bring in the the bandits, dead or alive. Keadan took his time, and eventually set a trap that succeeded in killing more than half of the bandits at once. The rest disbanded, and he and the king of Shancera parted ways as amiable acquaintances.

Keadan used the money from the King of Shancera by way of investment and expansion. In the years since his father's death, he has become quite wealthy through a business in logistics, utilizing his command of his father's soldiers - everything from wagons to horses to escorts; whatever it is, he can move it to almost anywhere while also guaranteeing security. Two main components of his success involve his acquaintance with the King of Shancera (who has granted him certain trading liberties), and the location of Castle Lorgain on the border, with direct access to the main trade route through Caerleon. While Keadan is a King's man by way of loyalty to his father's memory, he could just as easily use his connections to trade in the black market without anyone to be the wiser, and even monopolize it if he wished.

For the Crown

@Tarieles @Shayla @Kinton Nyr @VengefulPeanut @Mundane Monster @munchkinomatic @Starlighter

For the posting restrictions, let's try and get everyone posting at least a single post within the first 20 posts, as there are eight of us here.

Also, please tag whoever you are directly interacting with at the start of your post, so if you talk to a character or even bump into them briefly, tag them so they can respond to the interaction.

You can also, but don't need to, list whoever is mentioned in your post, even if their characters aren't present. I probably won't be doing that often[/spoili]
Turns out I posted it in the main thread -_-

Yaaaay!! *throws confetti*

I'll hopefully have a post up tomorrow, if everything goes as planned. But I have two questions first:

1. When is the Ball (to the minute of it's beginning, if possible), and what arrangements are the invited guests expected to make while staying in the Capital?

2. I'm mildly inspired to begin compiling a comprehensive list of Keadan's written works, and when/if the inspiration strikes, some excerpts from them. Is that something you might like to see?

Well, Prince Anre would respect him and his work so that would definitely be something I'd like to see.

Name: Josef Soichre
Title: Acting Lord of Lavindor
Age: 37
Birthdate: 24 June 241 NE
Gender: Male
Nationality: Caerleon
Sexuality: Heterosexual

Appearance
Josef is a tall, curly-haired older man with a full beard. He has many battle scars, earned in his conflicts with the southern kingdoms.
Height: 6'4"
Weight: 231 lbs

Personality
Josef is a very fierce and powerful man, who doesn't handle disrespect very well. He treats all those superior in rank to him with the appropriate respect, and accords respect to his inferiors appropriately too. He finds it difficult to escape from the seriousness of life, maintaining a very stern and mature outlook at all times. He is steadfastly loyal to King Leander.

Backstory

Josef's father, Vektar Soichre, served as a page in the court of Rufus V of Alvador, and was only a young man upon the fall of the kingdom. Vektar followed Rufus V into exile and later into rebellion, and was taken in by Petyr Selroth to serve as a squire. Vektar despised Petyr's incompetence and favoured Esrys Rajursson, who was a more direct and forceful commander, and he eventually became a subordinate of Esrys. Vektar had served in the campaign into the Wildlands alongside Rodric Esrysson in 239 NE, and was present at the first siege of Lavindor in 243 NE, where both Esrys and Rufus V tragically lost their lives.

Josef's mother, Loretta, was a camp follower during the rebellion. Matilda, Loretta's mother, worked as a prostitute in the camp when Loretta was too young to work. Vektar, who was married to a woman named Ruth at the time, fell in love with Loretta and, after months of pleading, eventually convinced Matilda to let her daughter work as a prostitute. Vektar took Loretta's virginity, but when his wife Ruth discovered of the incident, she had Loretta beaten so brutally that Matilda stopped her daughter from working again. It was eventually discovered that Loretta was with child, and Josef was later born.

Loretta began working as a prostitute after the first siege of Lavindor had come to an end, having raised her young son in the camp following Vektar disowning his young son. In 246 NE, unable to cope with seeing physical proof of her husband's tryst in the camps, Ruth attempted to murder both Loretta and Josef with poison. When the attempt failed, Ruth brutally beat Loretta to death with a spear but was stopped by Brandon Esrysson before she was able to kill Josef. Vektar sent Ruth away to Morecambe. Vektar later fought in the second siege of Lavindor in 247 NE and, upon his return to Morecambe, he discovered that Ruth had been pregnant when she left, and had a son, Jetiah, preventing him from being able to divorce her.

Vektar was awarded with the city of Lavindor for his efforts in the war. Josef grew up there as a child, although he remained aware of his stepmother Ruth's hatred for him. However, this didn't prevent Josef and Jetiah from growing up as close as brothers. Josef's maiden battle was during a peasant rebellion in the small villages nearby to Lavindor in 263 NE. When Vektar was seriously wounded, Josef led the armed guards and sacked every village, killing all of the rebel leaders. Vektar stepped down from his position as Lord of Lavindor later in 266 NE, after he failed to recover from his injuries. Josef was named as acting lord in his stead, on the condition that Jetiah would receive the position as lord on the event of either Josef or Vektar's deaths, since he was Vektar's legitimate son. Josef waged several wars against the Empire, without the consent of King Leander, but these have always proven fruitless.

For your first question, the ball would begin at about midday on a midsummer day, and the guests each have their own rooms on the west wing of the palace. None of the lords are aware which room the other lords would be staying in, for cautionary reasons. They aren't compelled to stay there, and have freedom to leave if they want.

And please do! Anything you want to add to the lore is definitely a good thing in my books, it'll be fun to see :))

That definitely does not inflate my ego at all XD

Awesome, thanks! I'll get to work on a post as soon as I have the time to sit down and focus on it.

Cool beans! I currently have 20ish various books and poems lined out in a spreadsheet. I'll work on fleshing out/adding to that and then get a post up here that I can add to as I have more ideas, if that's okay?

So are we saying the ball is happening the next day? That would give people time to arrive and settle.
