Name: Phoenix Weiss
Age: 30
Gender: Female
Class: Enchanter (Dark Magic/Swords)
Country: Ylisse
Appearance: Phoenix stands at about five foot five inches, around average height. Her hair is long, falling several inches past her shoulders. It is moderately curly and dark black, always carefully and neatly brushed. Her skin is pale, a result of long hours spent inside studying by candlelight. Her eyes are bright green, standing out in stark contrast to her skin and hair. Her features are somewhat angular, and she has prominent cheekbones. Her face is usually obscured by the heavy hood of her loose black and purple robes, leaving just her hair spilling out. There is an inscribed purple glyph on the backs of her hands (supposedly charms), although her hands are usually engulfed by her long sleeves. She carries a leather satchel that holds her books and other supplies, in addition to the plain sword sheath at her waist. Her expression is usually unreadable and neutral, but irritation paints her features quite frequently.
Personality: Phoenix is quiet, secretive, and irritable. She only shares as much information as others need to know, leaving out details she considers unimportant to them. She dislikes it when people question her, usually responding with "If you needed to know, I would have told you." She is not very social and views most other people as tools, becoming annoyed if they approach her about anything repeatedly. That is not to say she dislikes people; she simply sees little need to interact with them. If a person doesn't question her, shows generally good sense, and earns her trust, she can make a friend, although she still only really talks about business.
While combat isn't quite a game to her, she sees it as a test of strategy and isn't bothered by bloodshed and death, approaching battle with a clinical, detached view, carefully planning her actions in her head before taking them. While this makes her very effective when she has a moment to decide, it also means that she's slow to reäct. She commonly uses companions as cover and has no problem with running away or repositioning if she deems it necessary. She always fight to kill unless her enemy has information she needs. She has an almost unnatural pain tolerance, able to shut out all distracting sensory input to keep moving forward.
When pursuing an objective, researching, or enchanting, she is determined, steadfast, and operates with a single-mindedness that's almost frightening. While this makes her efficient, she tends to neglect the little things--like sleeping, or eating. She talks even less when focused in such a way, pushing people away in favor of her work. Instead of resting when she finishes, she usually moves onto another project. She subscribes to the credo "you can sleep when you're dead."
Phoenix is very superstitious and is apt to look for a paranormal explanation for something puzzling than a naturalistic one. Her interests are many and often esoteric, prompting her to approach people and ask odd, seemingly trivial, questions without explanation. She believes in the power of wards and charms, as a result carrying a variety of trinkets on her person that are meant to protect her against curses and evil spirits.
Backstory: Phoenix was born to an Ylissean priestess and a former mercenary, and her parents originally intended her to go into the clergy, so she was brought up in the faith, raised in the Church. However, Phoenix was aggressively disinterested in Ylissean doctrine, finding herself increasingly bored with the stories of Naga and the Exalt. She was no good at Staff magic, and didn't then have the patience to sit through the sermons. When she was a teenager she simply refused to continue, spoiling her relationship with her parents. Inspired by her father's past, she took up swordplay, sacrificing other interests to train with the blade. When she came of age, she began to travel, being competent enough to fight off the occasional bandit attacks on the road. She arrived in Plegia and found herself fascinated by their culture and religious beliefs that were so opposite of Ylisse's. She eventually came to study under a Plegian dark mage, delving into hexes and curses. After returning to Ylisse with these abilities, she was branded a heretic when she was found out. However, convinced that she could carve out a niche in her own society, she began studying how hexes could be used in the creation of magical items, particularly in the blending of magic and weaponry, and after a few components blowing up in her face, learned the basics of the art, soon becoming proficient in crafting wards, charms, and basic arcane devices, such as Light Runes. When she was twenty three, she found income was still sparse and decided to branch out. While Ylisseans weren't interested in magic items, crime was still rampant in the halidom, and Phoenix decided that curses could be put, perhaps, to a more practical use. She began using divination, hexes, and crafted items to track criminals, hiring her services out to anyone who needed to find somebody who had wronged them, or find where bandits were camped, or where a stolen object had gotten to. Her services were especially prized when magic was involved in the crime, as it was a simple matter to trace it back to its caster.
When the war started, she was still in Ylisse, but found that her occupation was rather negatively impacted. Everyone had gone off to war, and in battle the skills of an arcane investigator were not so prized. Phoenix has been hiding in the safest cities she could find since then, leaving covertly whenever word of enemy forces nearing them came to her. She is on neither side and only desires for the war to end, no matter who wins.

Cut it a little short, but this was the best I could manage right now. Will revise it when I'm less mentally exhausted.
