Touso

The Touso Kingdom: a land ruled by the descendants of the religious devotees of the dark god, Loptyr. While not unlike most other nations, they carried a dark social stigma from the history of their land.

Long ago, the Church of Loptyr reigned powerful. The Touso Empire was heavily involved in the downfall of other powerful kingdoms by the sheer might of their dark magic, especially those in the prestigious Schwarze Rosen, an infamous brigade of the Empire. Nation after Nation was conquered at the hands of the kingdom. Child hunts grew ever prevalent during this time. The children would be stolen away from their parents and starved until they would turn against each other. It was purely survival of the fittest. However, their survival would be rewarded as they would join the elite of the new society.

Sigmund, ruler of the Chalphy Kingdom and the man later referred to as the Paladin King, would not stand for this.

He was a noble man in every sense of the word. Charismatic, intelligent, and most of all, powerful. He was blessed with the holy blood of the Baldur, a hero who wielded the legendary blade known as the Tyrfing. Slowly, but surely, this man rounded up support from all nations, including those the Empire had long since claimed as their own. Rebellions rose up, hundreds of thousands were killed and the Touso empire was slowly deteriorating into a shadow of its former self. The Paladin King stormed the Emperor Egir's castle and was ready to draw blood. To his surprise, the man prostrated himself, begging for his life to be spared. Sickened by the man's lack of honor, Sigmund did just that.

A treaty was signed and the Touso Empire's (now known simply as the Touso Kingdom) military might was almost completely removed. It would be a minor power, focused primarily on trade through by sea. The most controversial of all the changes was the religious intolerance forced upon the citizenry. Their faith was perceived as a threat to the other nations after all their wrongdoings and the abolishment of such an evil would only do the world good. To the shock of many, Egir agreed to this without a hitch. In fact, he went so far as to set up an arranged marriage with Sigmund's second child and first daughter, Filia, and his son, Ymir.

Religious rebellions were suppressed and the marriage went through without a hitch. From that moment on, Touso and Chalphy remained on good terms, with the other kingdoms being wary and somewhat outraged about the survival of their oppressors. In a way, they were right. Egir was doing all he could to keep their faith alive by passing down the holy blood of Loptyr himself. The book of Loptyr, the holy weapon of Touso, was confiscated from them following the signing of the treaty. Egir hoped to keep his bloodline alive so that one of his descendants could one day use it to become the vessel of the dark god.

Modern Touso

Recently, cultists were reported to have been spotted all throughout the land. Children of all nations were being stolen away. Any who could testify about the exact cause of these kidnappings was found dead with a foul bile emitting from their body. Suspicion was cast immediately on the Touso kingdom. Some kingdoms took the chance to finally attack the one's responsible for the oppression of their people, while others decided to stay natural. Given its severely weakened power, the Touso kingdom could barely afford to hold back the constant attacks.

The king's two children were forced to evacuate to Chalphy as a precaution. As expected the Touso had finally fallen once and for all, the Velthomer Kingdom conquering it. Chalphy was subject to a constant barrage of attacks as a result of their alliance with Touso. After years of struggle, Chalphy still stands against all opposition, though its power slowly drains by the day. The resources used by the war caused a great deal of disarray and a severe lack of guards protecting citizens, causing a large scale bandit outbreak to occur.

The now grown children of Touso vowed to help their distant cousins protect their land as a means of showing gratitude to Chalphy. With that...

The story begins.

Chalphy
Chalphy served as a home to many naturally talented swordsmen. It was founded long ago after the great Holy War where the 12 crusaders worked in unison to take down the dark dragon, Loptyr. Unfortunately, this made its people intolerant of the dark dragon's followers long before the days of Sigmund and Egir. In a way, Chalphy was somewhat responsible for the hatred that festered up in the religious followers.

For years, the citizens of Chalphy made their hatred of all things involving Loptyr very well known. Followers of Loptyr often had to do their ceremonies in secret and carefully move throughout the world as to avoid being detected. Were they to be caught, whether adult or child, they would be burned at the stake in front of all to see. This cruel treatment led to the church members praying for a safe haven where they could practice their religion in peace. The Touso Kingdom's founding was a response to this. In a sense, without Chalphy there would be no Touso period.

Religious intolerance aside, Chalphy's army has long since served to fight against the evils of the world. Or at least, whatever it considers evil. It stands as the strongest military power in the current era. This is primarily due to the amount of territories it annexed during the age of the Paladin King. Many of the nations that wholly accepted the reign of Loptyr were treated similarly to Touso. Much of each territory's power was stripped away and complete subservience was demanded of them. Most notably, this was the case with Verdane. Known as the "barbarian kingdom", Chalphy had few qualms with conquering it in a similar fashion to Touso. Consequently, despite Verdane's status, its relationship with Chalphy is strained at best. This is only perpetuated by the corrupt governors Chalphy unknowingly placed to rule in place of the royal family. Great unrest grows day by day. With Chalphy's war on Velthomer reducing the amount of soldiers there to keep the population in check, there are rumors of a rebellion soon to break out.

One of Chalphy's greater allies is the Isaach Kingdom. There has always been a long standing friendship between the two nations due to events far into the past. They were originally at war with one another when Chalphy itself was a dukedom serving the long forgotten Grannvale Kingdom. During this war, one of the house's members rescued the nation's kidnapped prince from the aforementioned Verdane, an act of kindness that was able to better heal the wounds caused by the great series of battles long after their peace treaty was signed. To this day, it is not uncommon to see those from Isaach walk around Chalphy as travelers. Their presence has also heavily influenced the sword technique of Chalphy. Most lightly armored infantry swordsmen rely on quick and precise blows to fell their enemies instead of power.

Chalphy is a kingdom feared by many. The thought of facing it in war strikes fear into the heart of many, making Velthomer's longevity in their war all the more surprising. In a way, Chalphy's reputation as unbeatable dwindles the longer it takes to destroy Velthomer's forces.

This is the official RP thread where I will be updating the plot/world as we go along.

Important Stuff

Reservable Roles

Lords: The lords of this RP will be a prince (me) and prince/princess (player controlled) of the Touso kingdom. They will be siblings, obviously, and you'll get access to some plot info that's yet to be revealed if you become the other royal. The one requirement I have is that your character be a mage. It'll make sense, trust me. Also, their distant cousin, the prince/princess of Chalphy, will be the other lord. He/She will have grown up together with the siblings so its important that we communicate well. Again, you will be allowed any class so long as you can wield a sword. After all, how else will they use Tyrfing? (1/3 taken)

Retainers: Servants who fled with the lords of Touso, can be any class. (0/4 reserved)

Trainees: I will allow one and only one trainee. Trainees are usually the units who take way too much investment to be viable and usually aren't worth the effort to use. Not this time. For a long time, your unit will be borderline useless in combat as battles are fought. However, at an appropriate time (likely after a great deal of struggle and character development), this character will promote into a Gold Knight, a unit easily capable of toppling foe after foe after foe on their own. (0/1)

Jagen (Oifey archetype): A veteran warrior under the service of Chalphy. Responsible for the training of new recruits and a monster in their own right. While they may struggle to keep up with some of the others later on, they are valuable assets from start to finish. (reserved)

Holy Blood and Marriage

Holy blood is one of the more distinguishing factors of the royal families other than their high status. Each type of holy blood grants its owner different sorts of boosted capabilities with things like endurance, strength, magic, resistance, and more. Not all holy blood is made equal, however.

Major holy blood is especially coveted as it usually shows up once per generation in the first child of another holy blooded warrior. Beyond being rare, major holy blood has yet another defining feature. It allows whoever has it to use the powerful holy weapon of their family. These weapons are unparalleled in might and their wielders are often seen as monsters of the battlefield. Few can stand in the way of one with a holy weapon, making it prudent to avoid them at all costs. Those with major holy blood can most easily be identified with a brand somewhere on their bodies.

However, there are more...taboo methods to gain multiple children with major holy blood in one generation. If two people with the same type of holy blood, minor or major, are to have children, all of their them will be born with the major holy blood of their families. For obvious reasons, this a controversial practice. However, it has not stopped a few power hungry rulers from using it to their advantage.

More on holy blood here: Holy Blood

Example CS

Name: Raymond "Ray" of Touso

Age: 17
Appearance:
5NYfGVU.jpg

Personality: Despite the Loptyr blood flowing through his veins, Ray has always carried himself with great pride and expects those around him to do the same. He was always precocious from an early age and studied his heart out to become a prince that his people could place their faith in. Obviously, he knows full well of everything Touso has done and the great power it once had. For as long as he could remember, he had made it his duty to restore the kingdom to its former glory and fix relations with the people the empire had wronged so long ago. One of his first steps towards reaching this goal was to learn the way of the sword. As the second born of the royal family, his chances of becoming king are slim. However, he was determined still to do everything in his power to rid the lands of its many problems. Bandits were one of them.

Ray is very passionate about his role as prince and does his best to be dignified in public. When he is around those close to him, however, he loosens up considerably. He allows his usually held tongue to speak freely and is more than happy to share a friendly insult with his friends here and there. Contrary to what his role may suggest about him, Ray is always welcome to speak to others of all social standings. From the highest of nobles to the lowest of peasants, Ray has no issue talking to his people. Of course, this has garnered him many mixed reactions. The commoners of Touso adored his behavior while the elites found him it strange that someone so high on the social hierarchy would stoop down so low. He wears his emotions on his sleeves and never hesitates to defend his behavior.

While he has the dedication and charisma to one day become a great leader, it is obvious that he still has a ways to go before he can become the person he strives to be. First of all, he is surprisingly self conscious for someone of his stature. As the second born child of the royal family, he lacks the same major holy blood that his cousin and older sibling have. There is always a nagging sensation in the back of his mind telling him that he will never be able to compare to them no matter how hard he works. He is a cut above most, but there is very little chance he could ever reach the level of strength as someone with holy blood. That makes each and every failure he experiences painful to swallow. One of Ray's biggest fears by far is death, less the death of himself, more the death of those close to him. As someone who has thoroughly studied tactics, it is clear that no war can be won without casualties. Knowing that his friends could be stripped away from him at any time causes him far more trouble than he lets on.

Skills: Charisma: Those in his presence generally feel more confident in themselves.

Holy blood: Minor Baldur blood, minor Loptyr blood.
Biography:
Biography: Ray’s early childhood was a mixture luxury’s comfort and the pressure of his position constantly breathing down his neck. He always strived to make his parents, the king and queen, proud in whatever way he could. He worked and worked, studying to become the ideal prince for his nation. From his childhood, his priorities were on becoming as wise as he possibly could so that he could one day lead his Kingdom into an age of prosperity. Unfortunately for him, fate had different plans for him. He was the second born power and forever doomed to be second to his sister no matter how hard he tried to better himself.

For a lot of his early childhood, he resented her. Why could he not inherit the throne instead of her? After all of his hard work and dedication, why would rule of the kingdom be handed over to such a meek girl? During their early childhood, this put some strain into their relationship. Ray wanted nothing more than to distinguish himself from his sister for the better. While she practiced magic, he would learn the ways of the sword from one of the knights in his castle. He would excel in every way possible until his parents would look like madmen for placing her atop a throne!

This attitude came to an abrupt halt the further he got into the history of his people. He could not believe his eyes as he read the words in his textbook. The Touso kingdom, responsible for the deaths of millions across the continent. All in the name of their religion, they would conquer nation after nation and kidnap innocent children, separating them from their families. His horror only grew when he finally came to realize the reasons for his sister’s reserved attitude. She had been left with the worst legacy imaginable and he was complaining about it. She had things infinitely worse than he did, but he whined childishly about lacking responsibility.

His heart changed immensely that day.

Ray would practice his hardest to make up for strength his sister lacked. He would talk to her every day no matter how minute the subject. No matter what, he would not let her face these trials alone. Many were surprised at the lengths he would go to show his devotion. Ray constantly made (empty) threats to execute young squires unless they snuck him out of the castle to see the lives of commoners. He learned more from the source itself. He learned of the bandits invading their land, the starvation that many of the poor were victim to, and the high mortality rates among his people. This angered him, but made his passion grow even stronger. No matter what, he would do everything in his power to help these people, Touso’s reputation be damned!

He was excited to discuss these plans with his sister, but she had grown distant towards him recently. Sometimes, he would spend days upon days without seeing her. It was not uncommon for him to wonder whether or not she was still alive until they reunited under the same dinner table by complete chance. He noticed that she was more reserved, barely speaking to others. Out of goodwill, he decided to concoct a plan to help fix this problem. It was unnatural for a future queen to behave in such a way. She would obviously need practice speaking to others if there was even the slightest chance of her effectively ruling.

Before he could employ his plan, however, Velthomer struck. He was forced to escape his homeland by sea, a select few retainers going with him and his sister as his parents stayed behind. They were to head towards Chalphy to their cousin. All the while, his rage grew. No matter the cost, he vowed to his sister that he would reclaim Touso on her behalf. She need not lift a finger, for he would make up for the power she lacked.

Name: Dwight (Conway)

Age: 20

Personality:

Dwight has been called everything from cruel, and heartless to respectful, and on point. Usually calm if not arrogant and self confident Dwight has very little fears. He views everything from a pragmatic point of view on if things could improve him, or simply become more trouble than they are worth. He is willing to risk everything he has in order to achieve more and it has worked for him greatly in the vast majority of situations. He can put on a mask and become a cruel heartless monster, or a kind and caring mage out to help his fellow man. In truth Dwight has only one motivation: Self-improvement. The true Dwight is cold, and cares less for his fellow man than most people. He views others as tools, but has more than enough self awareness not to let his cold personality leak out. He is very cautious and careful of what can and can't do. He is not willing to risk his life unless he knows he can get away with whatever he has planned. His pride is carefully concealed under a guise of humility as he passes off his greater acts as simple practice and hard work more than his own sheer talent at work. He is just as willing to kill a man begging for his help than he is to offer someone his hand. Trying to analyze Dwight in earnest would require more information about him personally than most people would know of. Likewise on a loyalty standpoint Dwight is more than willing to up and leave without a word or stab a fool in the back if he must. However he does take slight if people needlessly not hold their side of the bargain up and he always makes an attempt to keep his side of a deal. Dwight also has a tendency to leak sarcasm into his words he views things as getting worse or when someone makes what he believes is a dumb suggestion.

Appearance: Dwight is an average adult male of his age with a slender build and features. He has pale white skin, and dark brown eyes with pitch black hair. He wears a pair of glasses though he doesn't need to it is to feed the persona of him being a weak, stereotypical mage more than anything. He wears a long and thick cloak like most mages with red lining the bottom and neck section in two concurrent lines. He wears thick brown boots needed for a man who travels and two well made socks. His clothes otherwise are simple. He wears a white shirt underneath it with an ordinary pair of pants.

Class: Shaman

Skills: Excelled magical talent and knowledge. His raw power and expertise in the abilities are near flawless and revered by his peers. Skilled at putting on a facade and lying.

Biography:

Born inside a mage's college to two of the finest mages of Isaach, Dwight was singled out for greatness before he could even walk. His childhood wasn't something particularly happy as he spent most of it alone and with strangers whom cared little for him but keeping him safe while his father, and mother continued their experiments. Dwight himself was quite the loud mouth as a baby often demanding attention, and love from his parents which he received very little of due to his parents being cold, and distant even from their own child. Dwight was left to his own devices often and spent many a cold night by himself scared and alone. It wasn't until he was old enough to understand what he wanted that he was downright sick and tired of being left alone and abandoned any hope of actually connecting to his parents. Unlike his parents who were interested more in the hidden mysteries of the arts of magic Dwight himself was more interested in honing his own power and magical abilities than discovering new ones. It became quite clear that Dwight was prodigal in his magical talents as he easily accomplished what took weeks, months, or years in half the time it usually would for the other students in his school. Often he would train alone, and seek out the stronger students and exchange notes with them learning how to play to people's good sides for his own benefit and when to use his power to intimidate those who wouldn't cooperate.

He became thugish in nature and when he became a teenager he even began to pick on criminals torturing those who harmed innocent people indiscriminately despite any sob stories they may tell him all in order to see how he could improve his magic. It wasn't until he was fifteen that he would be chosen as a disciple of one of his superiors, the dark sorceror of his parents' college Rodger Maxamillian. Rodger had been watching Dwight and had become impressed at the boy's talents wanting to groom him further. Dwight questioned the sorceror whom replied he had been looking for someone for decades who he could pass on his talents to. He was getting older the twits he taught at the college failed to grasp the real meaning of magical power. Dark curses, hexes, and the ability to control others was something not for the faint of heart. Dwight had been considering joining his parents whom had also taken an interest in him as of late but quickly agreed to work with Rodger who cackled and smiled at the boy's quick acceptance and took him as an apprentice much to the chagrin of others in his family, and his fellow students. Rodger taught him harshly but well and quickly Dwight grasped the darker arts just as well as he did anima. Rodger pushed Dwight to seek more knowledge and to grow even stronger which Dwight quickly told him was his plan all along.

Rodger continued to teach him until he was eighteen until which Dwight got in a confrontation with his parents ending in Dwight barging out of the school on bad terms with his parents. Rodger informed Dwight that his training with him was coming to a hiatus and that he would need to learn more on his own before finishing Rodger's teachings. Dwight agreed that he was hitting road blocks as of late and decided it would be for the best for him to leave the circle which he had spent his life cultivating his abilities at. Rodger paid for Dwight's expenses and the prodical shaman set out on a journey to further his knowledge as best he could visiting circles and eventually formed a reputation as 'Black Shroud' as he had picked up a fancy brown cloak from a rich noble whom he had beaten in a one on one magical duel. Though many don't know his face some may recognize him based on his raw power with the black arts alone. Dwight still travels two years later seeking for something worth his while.

(WIP, still writing the personality. Everything is subject to change)

Name: Silia of Touso

Age: 19

Personality:

As successor to the throne of Touso, Silia had been raised to be just that. She is noble, and often puts her kingdom before her own feelings and emotions. Silia does not see perfection in anything she does, and will often find a flaw no matter how well it's done. As crown princess, she is always overwhelmed with duties that the kingdom requires of her. As such, she has become more and more distant with her younger brother. To the point where she will rarely see or speak to him. This was a big change compared to the playful and joyous big sister she used to be. Despite the change, she still loves and cares for her family deeply.

While growing up, she had been developing a shy and meek personality during her youth, which was unacceptable for a role that requires her to be confident. To keep from being overwhelmed by the shyness, she would often practice public speaking in front of pillows, a mirror, or sometimes other inanimate objects like fruit or rocks in her free time away from her studies. She appears to be a pushover and fragile by appearance, but Silia does her damnedest to stay strong. When confronted with situations, Silia will always try to adapt. If the situation is too great, she will lose her cool and have a major break down.

Silia, if she is not pertaining to the duties of the kingdom, will be locked away with her studies on any magic she can practice. She has become extremely diligent, and honed her intelligence to be the best for her kingdom. Silia had also studied her magical capabilities to the best of her ability and became one of the best Dark Mages in Touso, though the constant work she puts herself through has made her more prone to the stress induced headaches and chest pains.

She has no idea how to wield any wieldable weapons, and since she was crown princess, there are plenty of skills she is inexperienced in in favor of her studies. Forging, cooking, and sewing are but to name a few.

Appearance: *Attached to this*

Class: Dark Mage

Skills: Magic prowess: Silia has studied immensely in the art of magic and honed this skill as much as she could. However, only practicing this has made her inexperienced in everything else.

Strong will: Silia refuses to give in so easily and makes her difficult to take down and keep down in battle. She will do whatever she can to continue the fight, if not, help from the sidelines.

Name: Celeste Highmore
Age: 19
Personality: Celeste is a caring individual, often going out of her way to help people and rarely being impolite or mean.
She is not the perfect gentle lady though despite her instructors attempts, and will laugh at things she finds funny, which are quite often other people embarrassing themselves.
Appearance:
1952168.jpg
Class: Pegasus Knight
Skills: Country Kid: The wildness reminds Celeste of her childhood and she feels stronger when outside of cities and towns.
Biography: Celeste was born on a farm near a moderately large village and spent her childhood either helping on the farm or playing with the other kids, especially her neighbour Bridget, who was often getting into trouble while trying to practice magic.

One day Celeste found a wounded pegasus foal and secretly began nursing it back to health with Bridget 'borrowing' supplies from her mother to help.
Eventually the pegasus was discovered when it followed Celeste home one day and she received a thorough telling off, though her parents agreed to let her keep the pegasus as long as no one claimed it

No one ever did and Celeste became quite skilled at flying, as well as mock jousting with her brother on his horse.
Eventually she decided to leave and become a pegasus knight in the employ of the royal family.
Inventory: Iron Lance, Vulnerary, Javelin.
Pegasus Name: Agallia

Name: Bridget Richele
Age: 18
Personality: Celeste, to most people is a confident, fearless mage willing to take on any challenge to prove her magical might.
In reality she is rather insecure, constantly doubting her abilities and trying to improve, she is actually pretty bad at hiding the truth and has only managed due to Celeste being her one and only friend.
Appearance:
98111d69c242a05916f2685a326a53746f920923_hq.gif
Class: Mage
Skills: Show Off: Bridget is always eager to prove herself, and becomes more powerful when at least two of her friends are watching.
Biography: Bridget was born in a happy family, her mother was the village healer, and her father a fairly powerful mage, she lived happily until her fifth birthday, when without warning her father left, taking the family's savings with them.
While not in debt or anything, this meant far fewer luxuries for Bridget.

Bridget spent most of her time either reading alone or showing off and doubly so when it appeared she had inherited her father's magic, which seemed to both please and sadden her mother who used staves and hoped Bridget would too.

Bridget always practiced with her magic, and after Celeste bought a raggedy fire tome for her birthday, nearly burnt down more than a few buildings, eventually she decided to become a proper mage, and followed Celeste into training.
Inventory: Fire Tome, Vulnerary, Light Rune.

Edited my bio in, so should anyone want to apply for the role of retainer, now would be a good time!

All of your sheets look good. While Isaach is a society based primarily on swordsmanship, I can definitely use the existence of a mage college to further it's development as a society.

Freakin mages everywhere... :goodwitch:

I chose Shaman because I thought no one else was going to be a mage. What we need is a Cleric or Jaegan.

Name:
Harold Porter

Age:
20

Personality:
Enthusiastic in all that he does, Harold finds little more rewarding than helping people. He adores learning new things, always having some questions to ask others about something-or-other. He's always seeking to prove himself, trying to show that while he might not really be a fighter, he can still be a really valuable asset to a team. He can come across as a bit idealistic and naive, believing in all else that the forces of goodness and light can surpass that of the dark. Despite this, Harold is exceedingly easy to intimidate, often shirking away from those with greater might than him. He utterly idolizes the royals, thinking they can do no wrong, and will oftentimes blatantly ignore the wrongs they do do in order to make them look better. Oh, and he loves bugs! They're neat!

Appearance:
Harold is rather thin and on the shorter side, with vibrant red hair, brown eyes, light skin, and freckles all over his body. His standard apparel consists of a blue tabard with a gray shirt and pants below, white gloves, and tall dark brown leather boots.

Class:
Troubador

Skills:
Harold has an innate lust for learning, able to pick up on new things rather quickly.

Biography:
Troubadors are usually royalty. Harold...Is...Not. Born to a dancer and a pirate, Harold lived a comfortable lifestyle, albeit a rather independent one. His father always insisted that a man must learn to fight above all else, but Harold expressed...Awkwardness in holding an axe. He could never understand how to keep a grip on it, and his swings came off as just as clumsy. This resulted in constant disappointment from his father, weakening Harold's self-esteem. His mother was determined to prove in some way that the child could prove useful should war ever strike, and with any money she made through her dances, bought her son a horse to teach him to ride. Maybe then he could grow acquainted with a sword, a lance, a bow...

Harold did, indeed, bond with the horse. Yet he found more interest in the mechanics of magic and the priesthood rather than any sort of weapon. His mother was a woman of utility, not of battle...So why couldn't he be as well? While never officially joining the clergy, Harold bought his first heal staff with his own pocket money and practiced at it with the grass in the lawn, reading books to try and improve his work, hoping he could become a great healer and finally earn his father's pride.

With his mother's bidding and his father's sneer that a lad like him would never make it as a troubador (that's a woman's position, men can't be Valkyries), Harold set off on horseback to work for the royal house.
