Well when I look for role plays to join. There are a few things I think they should have. You mean a canon character? Well, if you really don't want to be one, then I suppose you don't have to...
I just don't see why every single roleplay I make has only one or two people who are actually interested...
1. A story.
If you don't have a story then how can you roleplay. Another thing i see is that people look to the players for main content. For an example, though it is awesome to use my ideas. the story is not mine and I do not wish to be a GM for the story. I think players who need assistance with stories should find another player to GM with them.
2. Purpose.
What is my goal in the rp? Are we going to fight a dragon? Are we going to talk about Girls? Are we going to rewind time? Without a goal, the story just becomes a bunch of pointless conversations and a bad slice of life (cause even slice of life have a purpose)
3. Creativity.
I like RPs where i can be creative. (which is why i dont like using canon characters.) This is not to say canon characters should not be used in the RP nor is this an attack on your rule for Canon characters to be required.
I like RPs where i cannot guess what is going to happen. If the GM cannot be creative with the plot and creative a way for meaningful interaction then the story gets boring. Like what is the point of having my character march to his doom when i know he is not going to win. Why should I avoid taking a risk and act smart when i know i am going to win. Like a book, the story and plot should be creative and unpredictable.
To answer your question.
I dont know about your other roleplays but with this one i can give my opinion
This tells me nothing about the story except that i am apart of Fairy Tail and some space rock is in my turf. So the only real people who would be attracted by this level of detail would be fairy tail junkies like me who just want to play in the world. In the world of Fairy Tail, you've been living your life in the world-renouned guild for a given amount of time (your choice). You've been pretty happy, up until a meteorite strikes dangerously close to Magnolia. Hours after it crashes, pitch black, deformed creatures invade the city and assault people.
Master Makarov sends you to see if the meteor was actually just a meteor, and what you discover when you get there is unlike anything you've seen before.
Now i know you can say that you are a beginner at this and because the story is just starting, there is not a lot of detail but look at your interest check post.
This is so much more appealing and to be honest, this paragraph was what grabbed my interest. Though it was not alot, All 3 of my requirements were answered.A few days ago, a meteor crashed dangerously close to Magnolia. Finally, when the Guild Master decides it's safe, he sends the characters on a quest to see if it was actually a meteorite. After hours of travelling and fighting off these pitch black magical creatures that appear to have come from the crash site, they find a crater with a crystalline blade in the middle. Not only is the sword generating a portal, it's also pulling those freaky creatures out of the rift. You need to find a way to pull the sword out of the ground to stop the portal and shatter it to make sure it doesn't do anymore harm. That is, if you can manage what happens after you take the blade from the ground.
Story: Rock fell in my hometown and is releasing monsters into the world
Purpose: Find out about the rock and stop the monsters
Creativity: The mystery about the rock and these monsters. plus this is not base off canon material. So creativity is obvious there.
The worst thing is that this was the interest check and just the icing on the cake.
I am still going to participate in the story but you got to give us more. We have no idea what point in time we are in. We don't know what these monsters can do (since they have started assaulting the town) Where are all the other guilds because fairy tail is not the only big guild (at episode 90). What happen before this event.
There are plenty of ways for you to make a good story to sell to the player base. You just have to put some effort.
Also since you said that you require canon characters you need to write out the canon characters required to play the RP. For example. You cannot have a fairy tail RP with Natsu without Gray and Lucy and Erza, unless something happened to one of them which you should explain.
I will leave you with that as it is alot to read over. But the last thing i want to say is. How big do you want this RP to be
How many players. how many characters. How many people can you manage before things get out of hand. Also remember for every player you add the harder it is to keep everyone in because everyone cannot be a star. At the same time the less players you have the easier it is for the story to get stuck if one person decides to leave.
