Ila arched a brow at the exchange, "Kanda, Lyra's got a point. You know what they say, Breakfast is the most important meal of the day."

She watched Kanda make his way tot he job board and snatch up a job, her eyes normally would've been able to read it, but in her morning haze there was a bit more difficulty and it took her a bit longer and him to get a bit closer for her to see what it was. "Come on, take a seat for 2 minutes, eat something, then we can double time out of here, Promise. An escort can wait a bit, babysitting some blue-blood can wait."

"Besides, you're getting Lyra all upset." She smirked

Kanda grumbled, running a hand over his face and began to eat. He sighed, shaking his head to dispel the dreams of the night before. "Sorry Lyra." He muttered around a bite.

Lyra leaned over and ruffled his hair, which earned her a dagger-filled glare, "That's alright." She looked at Ila, "You need to eat too." She pushed the second plate of food over to her.

Ila smiled, there was the kindness Lyra was talking about. It was clear the man was still troubled.. but so long as he wasn't allowed to keep to himself, Ila felt like he'd get better. Though she was a bit confused about how she got roped into eating something. Ila pointed to her ale as if saying that was her breakfast, but somehow felt that wasn't going to fly so lowered her head in defeat to contemplate the meal.

Eyes watched the two of them with a slight distaste. A wolf with only one eye who stood as tall as a man watched the two from the feet of her master and friend. A young man with one eye covered by a blue bandanna. One of the trackers of the guild that Lyra had been talking about the night before. "Calm yourself snow.. Lyra seems to like her. We'll keep an eye on them though. We'll wait till they leave."

The wolf looked up to the man, then lay her head down to relax a bit.

Kanda's eyes softened and he looked at Lyra. "Thanks, ya know, for last night."

Lyra raised an eyebrow. "What do you mean?" She shrugged.

Kanda looked puzzled. "I woke up after...after another of the nightmares and smelt a perfume. Thought it had been you in my room? You normally go in there and sing me back to sleep..."

Lyra shook her head. "Sweetie, we added a sound shield to your room while you were gone. That way you wouldn't worry about waking anyone up. I didn't hear a thing. Though if you want we can take it back down?"

Kanda shook his head. "Naw, it's better for the guild to have it up. I don't want to wake up everyone anymore...but it's strange...I even sense a woman's presence...." He rubbed his face with his hand, pushing his plate away. "Nevermind..."

Ila's choked a little bit when Kanda mentioned smelling a perfume but recovered with a quick drink of her ale. It felt awkward to think about.. how were his senses so keen? She'd need to be more careful..

Relief came over her when Kanda dismissed the thought and pushed his plate away. A sound shield?... That would come in handy.. the thought was tucked away, as was Ila's meal as she slid her empty plate forward and rose from her seat with a stretch. "You could've just been imagining things. I mean some Dreams can get seem extremely real. Besides, you had quite a few before heading up."

Kanda glared at Ila. "I wasn't imaging this. I know someone was in there."

Lyra patted Kanda's hand. "Now, now, Kanda...she is right you know. You had a few drinks." She looked at him with a frown.

Kanda stood up from the bar, "Not as many as normal Lyra, you know that." He leaned forward and kissed her on the forehead. "I'm gonna go do this job okay?" He turned around and headed for the door. "Be back whenever."

Lyra shook her head. "Be careful you big hothead!"

Other wizards that were gathered in the hall yelled their own teasing goodbyes, each wondering as they always did, if this would be the trip he would never return from.

She dismissed the glare with a scoff.

Ila noted the kiss on the forehead and some part of her felt jealous. It showed in her eye at a side-glance, but nothing too dramatic. He wasn't so alone, not really. They cared for one another, and that was just another reason to make sure the so dubbed "Hot-head" came back.

The wizards gave their goodbyes, and somehow Ila could sense their concern. She had no such worries. With the two of them being solo-players there was no doubt in her mind that them being together would easily make them an invincible team. So long as they learned to fight together. Since all her things were taken apart by the bandits the day before, Ila didn't have much to her pack beyond a change of clothing and her jule pouch which was nearly empty. That being said she thought it a good idea to stock up on supplies on their way out, and so would do so before they left Fiore.

Adjusting her pack on her back, Ila smiled toward Lyra as Kanda turned for the door. It wasn't an exchange of words, but Ila simply gave a confident smile and a nod that said they'd be back sooner than later before turning to run out the door behind Kanda.

The morning was nice and warm even with the chilled breeze from the dock sweeping through town. Everyone was moving about and setting up the start of their busy days. Shop owners were sweeping their doorways and families were waving off their loved ones on their way to work. Ila took in a deep breath upon passing Kanda to look into the sky. Carefre was the way she lived when not drunk, which she had a feeling she wouldn't get a chance to be since the mean came out of Kanda when he was ...impaired.

Turning on her heel, Ila faced Kanda with a bright smile. "Alright! What's the job?"

Kanda shrugged. "Caravan job. First, we need to stock rations and supplies though." He began walking towards one of the many shops, receiving a warm welcome from the shopowner.

"Kanda! So good to see you again! We gots a lotta travel meat and biscuits for you!" The heavy-set shopkeeper said, pulling a package up from under the counter. "We also have your special order..." He leaned in to whisper and wink.

Kanda nodded his head curtly. "Heard I was back in town?" He smirked. "Yeah, Pedro. I'll take it all." He reached into his coin purse and grabbed a handful of jules, dropping them into the shopkeeper's waiting hand. Then, he took the package from him, as well as a brown bag. "Thanks."

"Sounds good." Ila replied simply before following Kanda up the road and into the shop. She paid little attention to the exchange between Kanda and Pedro, but what piqued her interest was when it came to hushed tones and tell of a "special order". This had Ila craning her neck to try and get a peek at the brown bag while she was collecting rations and survival gear.

"N-now hold on a second. Just what kind of thing am I becoming an accessory to?" She asked with a raised brow.

Kanda looked at her "What?" He asked in confusion, walking away from the shop. Pedro had given him all the rations and survival gear he would need, and Kanda still had his first aid kit in his pack. He stepped out of the street, slipping his pack off his shoulder to shove the rations and survival gear into it. Then, he took a large clear bottle of honey-colored liquid out of the brown bag and slipped it into his pack, making sure to cushion it between some of his clothes.

Ila bought what she needed then followed Kanda out, cocking her head to the side. "What do you mean what? That fat guy said your special order came in or something like you guys were involved in something shady.." She said this with a bit of animation, but as it seemed like sensitive information she too mimicked pedro's "hushed tone" when asking about the bag.

The honey colored liquid got her attention and her mouth immediately began to water and long for a taste. SURE maybe it wasn't such a good idea to think a strange liquid WAS honey just cause it looked like it.. but Honey was the most naturally sweet substance one could find and so rich and wonderful on toast... Her heart was all a flutter. "...W-what is it?"

Kanda looked at her with an odd expression on his face. "Why are you whispering? It's just a sleeping tonic. Prevents me from having nightmares while I'm on the road by keeping me somewhere in between awake and full-sleep. I go to bed and dream of nothing, waking only slightly tired." He shrugged, standing up and slinging his pack over his shoulder.

Ila thought about it for a moment, considering the tonic and then looked to Kanda when she was ready to go. folding her arms over her chest. "..Do.. you have nightmares all the time?" She asked, curious.

Kanda shook his head at her. "No, but when they do come, it can come as quite a shock..." He began to march out of town, slightly aggravated by the questions and the chatter. He worked alone and had grown unused to that. She reminded him so much of Eliza, and yet she was different. He could tell that. But, he couldn't admit to even himself what he was feeling.

The marching off showed his aggravation, but Ila was immune, arrogance was something she was known for, and while she tried to be careful not to push the wrong buttons, most of the time she simply just didn't care. secrets wasn't something she liked, and they only beckoned her to prod and pry where it wasn't wanted.

That being said, a slight frown came across her face as she rushed to catch up to him. "Right.. Sorry about that. Forgot, no questions." She said, looking straight ahead, then glanced up to him for a second. "Strong silent type I take it?" She said, nudging him slightly while keeping pace with his long strides. "It helps clear your mind you know, talking to someone, even if you don't really want to talk. Just something random..like.. uh.. what's your favorite kind of candy?" She tried, speeding up to walk backwards in front of him.

~~~
From the shadows, eyes of a familiar group of bandits watched the pair leaving town. hushed whispers keeping them hidden while at the same time a few words could be made out. "Pay back."
Kanda growled. "Eliza used to tell me that..." He looked at her with a raised eyebrow. "I like sweet things, but not really candy. Unless it's gummy beer. Those are good." He frowned, realizing he was answering her questions.
Ila frowned when being compared to Eliza, but her smile returned when she'd managed to sneak another answer from him to her question. "She was a wise woman, and I HATE gummi bears!" She started, but in the next step she'd taken, there was a sudden lack of structural integrity on the ground and she was suddenly falling backwards into a pitfall trap. "Kanda!" she yelled.
~
In the shadows they waited for the Flame Wielders response. Hoping to catch him off guard, thinking of him as the larger threat.
The thin leader spoke calmly. "Wait for it boys... I'll bind him when he catches the bitch. Then you move in an snuff him out..."
Kanda cussed loudly, reaching in to grab Ila. "Hang on." He said, feeling his fingers grab onto her shirt. He grunted at the weight of both her and her pack.
Ila flailed slightly until she was snatched up from thin air by her shirt. Below she could see a bed of spikes and so closed her eyes in shame. "The oldest trick in the book... Thanks a lot.."
At that moment the diamond in the tattoo on her neck began to glow, a deep amethyst that flashed briefly but gave them perhaps their only warning to what was going to happen next.
The bushes shifted and the thin bandit leader took to the air, a sigil blaring into existence just under his outstretched palms. "GOTCHA!" And suddenly black magic sealing ropes shot out of the ground at Kanda's feet, coming up to restrict his legs first, then his arms, attempting to pull him back and off his feet so he couldn't use his fire.
Kanda's eyes widened at the glowing diamond tattoo, startled when the bushes shifted and black magic sealing ropes shot out of the ground at his feet. "What the hell?" He asked, pulling Ila up out of the pit and flinging her beside him. Then, his arms were restricted and he was pulled off his feet to lay on his back. Anger filled him, and the heat radiated off his body in waves.
