This is a custom setting I am attempting, which has taken a few inspirations. It is based on a classical D&D/fantasy world, with a few twists. Instead of the class being the core of a character, their equipment is the star. They allow the use of different abilities, spells, or monster summonings. There are classic types, as well as more outlandish, strange, powerful, and other adjectives that could be used to describe the gear. If anyone has ever seen the infinite loot train episode of Adventure Time, that is similar to my goal.

That is not to say the class isn't important, there are core differences and abilities, as well as different equipment allowances.

The player characters would be sent on an epic quest, where they can gain and craft - yes, craft - their own equipment. Crafting is done by either fusing two items for a random result, or using materials to create a special, tailor-crafted item for use until it is replaced. Materials are found as loot or deconstructing other gear.

The classes are as follows:

Warrior - Your standard bladesman and general fighter, he can use most armor and melee weapons, being the frontline.

Ranger - Uses martial ranged weapons and single-handed/dual-wielded weapons in order to cause damage.

Knight - Uses one weapon and shield in order to defend allies and distract enemies to attack them.

Rogue - Uses small ranged and melee weapons in a sneaky manner.

Summoner - Uses spells to summon creatures in order to fight (Can be beyond fantasy, somewhat similar to the YuGiOh card game monsters)

Spellcaster - Uses staves and wands in order to cast damaging and world-altering spells

Cleric - Uses single weapons and totem symbols to heal and support allies

Equipmancer - Able to summon and mold weapons out of pure energy or any nearby materials, as well as imbue their equipment and identify new items. However, they are weaker at combat than all others.

Battlemage - A mix of One martial class and One Spellcasting class, able to do both but neither as good

Same to you! As well I didn't want too many classes. A warrior could easily be traited up to be like a berserker :)

W.I.P (mostly waiting for approval now)

Player Name: Tyrannt X

Character Name: Zoranak Balbadar

Race: Half-Orc

Age: 16

Gender: Male

Class: Warrior

Alignment: Neutral Chaotic

Personal Trait: Beserker Rage

Starting Weapon: Greataxe

Starting Armor: Hide

Personality: Brutal, Often comes off as rude, Does not know the meaning of "Mercy". Zoranak trusts strangers as far as an ant can throw a dinosaur, and if anyone tires to mess with him.... don't expect them to live for very much longer. Once he starts to trust his companions he can be quite loyal, and dependable.

History: Like many half-orcs, Zoranak was born into an orc clan. In fact, his father was chief of the tribe. Usually this would mean that Zoranak would be next in line to be chief, but there was just one problem. Since Zoranak's father never married his mother, Zoranak was born Illegitimately... A bastard. It also did not help that he wasn't a full blooded orc, giving him a fair amount of disrespect from many. One day, another orc by the name of Karbalnak challenged Zoranak's father for the title of chief. Karbalnak won with little to no effort, and out of spite he banished Zoranak from the clan. Now Zoranak wanders the realms, with only the dying words of his father pushing him forward, "Get Stronger". Since then Zoranak has taken on any soul brave enough (or more accurately fool enough) to stand against his way.

Other Gear: Bear Skull, Rations, Torch, Sleeping bag

I'm game for this

As always, here for my Mythy! Want the equipmancer role. Going to love running wild with ideas. Will work on a character sheet when I get home from Christmas.

What other fantasy races are there? My default's elf, but if there's more to choose from...

Interested.
Welcome aboard!

And I forgot to mention for everyone but always feel free to ask questions and talk! I'm always open for such things.

Also, feel free to PM me about your character sheet, especially about the starting trait. Or just to talk.

About your basic fantasy/D&D meld. Human, Elf, Half-elf, Half-Orc, Dwarf, Halfling, etc. It's standard, but I'm hoping making Equipment the main thing will help this be interesting.

Going for elf then.

What exactly is my limit for making equipment? Was assuming I'd make the weapons everyone else uses when we have to change it up from our standard tools. Can I make the wands and staffs spellcasters use? Do I just make weapons or can I do armor too?

And assuming that while I'm not a master fighter I'd at least be adept. I mean, I am making the weapons. Would be nice if I could use some of them.

Can we have some weapon durability? Just thinking if we have someone who makes weapons, we might need them if old ones keep breaking.

Also, what can I imbue with?

...sorry. Just voicing some stuff.

@Quiet One

Anyone can make their own equipment, or have you do it. I'm not going to say you're necessarily better at it but you could perhaps gain extra insight into how different materials interact. You can make and theoretically use any equipment, other characters can just make what they can use. But quality isn't necessarily too much better, so other people can be creative too.

As for fighting, you can use basically anything but not to the best of the ability as others. For example, where a spellcaster might get 5 spells from a staff of flame, you might get 2. However, since you can make temporary weapons in battle to use, you can fill whatever role needed.

Weapon and equipment degradation may happen but it will be more narrative than a hard rule. For example, weapons breaking from Sunder attacks, not just from being used.

You can imbue in a similar manner to how you create temporary weapons, or more permanently by using crystal fragments to change the way a weapon works and/or add new abilities.

I hope that all makes sense.

@TyranntX

Curious how you see the berserker rage working, like what kind of style. But in general your sheet looks good :D

@Quiet One @TyranntX @Kraveing_Volkf @Jack Robinson @RiddL

We have five people now. Signups are still open but I'm thinking this is enough interest, so I will make the OOC sometime later today.

This piqued my interest. It's not very common to see an adventure affected by weapons, maybe even surrounding a weapon for plot? I don't know. Still, I'll definitely look into it!

I'm still working on the exact system, and the actual plot/quest, but I'm glad you're interested! If you decide to join, I'll of course welcome you :D

@Mythy the Dragon-Wolf, actually it doesn't. Not completely. I thought I'd be the only one able to quickly improvise a weapon, but now you say all of them can do it? My character class suddenly feels useless.

Knights, for example, usually don't know the first thing about how to make their swords or shields, yet now they can? What good am I if a Sunder (whatever that is) breaks his shield and he can make his own replacement?

Just suddenly feel like I'm not all that special to the group, and I thought I'd be vital arming everyone. :(

@Quiet One you are the only one who can (magically) improvise your own temporary weapons (and hand them off to allies if need be). And you're able to make and fix weapons with less need for materials and specialized equipment/stations (and taking less time) than the other classes need. If no one else could ever make their own weapons they would need to rely on smiths and other specialists in villages, which they still can to get better results - or ask you to try and make what they want. However if there is no equipmancer around, or they have a very specific desire it may be better to make one themselves.

And keep in mind that, yes, "usually" knights can't make their own weapons. But this isn't a "usual" universe, it's one where magic, strange, unusual and exotic equipment is a normality and not a rarity. As such it's not too much of a stretch in my opinion to think that, while equipmancers are masters of the craft, all other adventurers train themselves in the ability to craft and maintain their own gear.

This sounds very interesting, what are your posting expectations? frequency? also are dark elves are off limits?

Posting expectations are at least one paragraph which responds to GM-given situations, combat, or other players in a way that is meaningful/advances the story. Longer posts are generally better but don't feel like you need to force yourself for much longer than you can write. No one liners please.

Posting Frequency is at least once per GM update. More can potentially happen during downtime or interaction with other players/NPCs (Interaction with NPC (that is, me posting a response from an NPC) is not necessarily a GM update so at those times there may be exceptions).. also, only one post per combat round, keeping things reasonable (perhaps with some combat guidelines I have used in other RPs)

Sometimes my muse fluctuates and I can be slow, but I will try to keep to one update every week at least.

Dark Elves... Not necessarily off-limits but are not really standard races in most places and would rather it to be different than Drizzt ;)

Unfortunately I wasn't able to get the OOC up today, ans I have a long shift starting early tomorrow. However, I hope to get it up no later than two days after Christmas, hopefully tomorrow though.

Great! I think I can manage that, will try to have something ready for the Monday, I doubt I can have something done today. My idea was to have a dark elf rogue/thief, something like a high society thief, a collector of relics, that he either acquires it himself or as "loans" from "friendly benefactors", but he only seek things that are "hot" at the moment, think a guy that its always looking for the newest iphone/android and as soon as a new one come out he drops the old one.

Hmm.. seems interesting, but not quite heroic ;)

Also, to everyone, I might not be able to get the OOC up today or tomorrow. My brain is a little fried after my shift, and then tomorrow is a busy Christmas. I am working on world lore and some examples of gear and such for when I do get it up.

And on that note, Happy Holidays to those who celebrate

take your time Mythy

also figure I should just say. My general idea for my character is an assassin. Still working on the idea, I'll send you a msg later when I work out what I want so I can see if its fine ^^
