Cherie heard the voice. It was familiar. She should have known. They camped out for the night as Savisal instructed. She prefer the trees so she climbed one just above the camp as usual.

Those guys might try another trick since the frontal attack didn't work. She listened to Savisal explain to Zeia everything. Well, almost everything.

She worries for her. The crystals are both a security and a danger. That's why the balance is important. That's where Zeia will enter. Her powers are needed.

"Hey, what do you plan about the trials? Did the council asked a few other things for her? You know what could happen right?" she asked him telepathically.

((Sorry, yes internet for a while!))

Zeia lay down on the ground, listening to the breeze through the trees. She had been running on adrenaline throughout the afternoon, and was now overcome with exhaustion. She quickly fell asleep, huddling up against a tree trunk on a bed of moss.

Savisal listened to the girl talk to him and he sent his response telepathically as well. "Yes, I do know what can happen..that's why I'm here! As for the trials, they'll have to happen as we travel."
He settled next to her as she slept, keeping an eye out for the ice twins return or whatever else planned on coming for her. Long as he was there, nothing would get close without going through him first.

By the time the sun began to rise in the sky, it seemed to pass by in an instant. He stayed up all night..nothing dared come close. So far, they were safe.

((I seez no OOC, so can someone tell me what's going on, so I can join in? And I'm assuming it would alright to be a sentient canine or something...))

(( there is no OOC. It's just a fun jump in. No character sheet required. Just write something that introduces your character.))

I opened my eyes to blinding light coming through the overhead canopy. I sat up quickly, before realizing where I was, and relaxing back down into the moss. I looked over at Savisal, but he had his back to me and I couldn't see what he was doing. I reluctantly got up, not wanting to leave my warm spot on the ground, and wandered over to see what he was doing. After the lengthy conversation last night, I finally knew the basics of what I had to do; defeat the... whatever they were, to release the energy, so they wouldn't fill up too much and, well, overload, I guess.

Savisal answered her back. Well, that's why she's here too.

She closed her eyes to sleep. By dswn break, she opened her eyes. Cherie had a good sleep in the tree. She can still detect anything even when asleep.

She knew that Savisal haven't slept a wink. She can't blame him for that.

Then, she saw Zeia waking up. She saw her wandering towards Savisal. Cherie decided to go down and join the two.

"Hey! Morning!" she said to the two. Then to Zeia, "Did you sleep well? Want some breakfast?" she smiled at her.

"Is it ok with you if she goes with me to find food?" she said asking his permission.

He glanced over his shoulder as he yawned. "Good morning Zeia. You slept well I imagine?" He stood up, transmogrifying a stick into a staff. He nodded to Cherie.
"Go ahead. Try not to draw attention to us or get caught." He watched her zoom off and he faced Zeia. "How do you feel about your new responsibilities?"

"Yeah..." Her voice trailed off as she focused on making a small tuft of grass rise out of the ground. "Huh?".

He sighed. "Pay attention when someone is speaking to you. Jeez...I asked how you were feeling with these new responsibilities." This girl was going to need alot of work in order to be a good healer. The sooner he would be able to start training her, the better.

"Yeah, good, I guess." I replied. I could feel his disappointed gaze burning into my head. I turned to Cherie. "What's there to eat?" I asked. I was starving.

((I am guessing that you are in a forest.))

Saltus Spiritus, known casually as Saltus by those sentients that have a spoken tongue, trotted through the forest on his 4 forelegs, and two hind legs. Saltus shared attributes and traits to all creatures in his forest; for there was one like him in every forest, desert, plain, mountain, ocean, and every other imaginable ecosystem. He had a pair of wings, where the bones are surrounded by bright, colorful feathers, and the skin of the wing itself is leathery and brown. He could poison and kill a human male within 6 hours after a bite, for there were many hidden poisonous snakes, however shy they were. His claws were that of a falcon's, his feet that of a lizard, his head like that of a wolf, without the fur. His leathery, scaly skin was that of the dragon that lives in the cave within the cliff, in the middle of the forest, though it was as soft as a bunny's fur.

But their problems were irrelevant, for there were trespassers in his forest. He could tell, because his sentience, his intelligence, boosted, brightened, strengthed. He could feel the stirrings of Saltus Spirituses from his lineage from ages past, and they were restless. Something was surely happening, to put such spirits in such restlessness.

So he moved at a fast trot to where he could feel the foreigners. The trees were talking, for the breezes were not strong enough to rattle and shake them so, though they always quieted when he came near them, or any other sentient creature. You could feel them watching you, in their semi-asleep, drifty, slightly suspicious way, regardless of who the sentient is.

Cherie wandered around to find any fruit trees and mushrooms. And maybe some healing herbs. It's always handy to have them.

She heard Savisal asking Zeia about her new responsibilities and she saw that the girl is not really listening. She chuckles when she saw Savisal frowning. Geez, he'll get old fast if he keeps frowning.

Then Zeia asked her what is for breakfast. "Just a couple of fruits and mushrooms. Oh, do you eat mushrooms? What do you want so I can get them." she replied smiling.

She feels the breeze and though there's a bit of an edge to their whispers, it calms her. It's been a while since she felt calmness. As usual, only a place where there's harmony within the creatures can create this sense if peace just minus their aura of suspiciousness.

She paused for a while and touched an old tree trunk. Though old, it still feels very alive. Its guardian must be very powerful and caring. She looks around her. The trees are really full of life and she can hear the birds singing.

Everything in this forest coexists perfectly. She smiled at the thought.

"I better gather food so Zeia can eat and have the energy she needs", she told herself. She hums as she resume foraging.

Saltus could feel the hands. He could feel the vibrations from the humming; he could feel what the plants felt. He did not feel their pain, for their was none, or their happiness, for their was none, but they, in their slow, sleep-clouded minds, knew something was different, unusual.

Saltus leaped up into one of the trees, caring not for what type they were, for they were healthy, and that was the only important thing. He jumped from tree to tree, leaps that any normal animal would find impossible, the trees themselves dampening any sound he made. This is my domain, this is my power. Beware to any who harms my domain, he thought to the forest. The trees around him reacted as if hit by a violent gust of wind, leaves and branches swaying.

And so after traveling an unknown distance, for distance was of no consequence in his own realm, he found himself on a branch over a mortal. Sentient, for he became more and more thoughtful the closer he became. Calmer, again from the humanoid, for that was what it may of been feeling. So he hung over the trespasser, staring down at it, waiting for it to notice, or for it to get up and leave. Whichever one worked; if it left, he'd follow and find answers. If it looked, it may try to communicate, and he'd find answers. What method bothered him not.

Cherie suddenly felt something wrong in the surroundings. The wind's whisper is more harsh and she can feel its edginess. She scanned the area but saw nothing. Then she looked up and her eyes widen. She fell on her knees and bowed. It's the guardian of the forest.

She tried to talk to it telepathically. "Great Saltus, I'm honored to meet you. May I request to talk to you? If you wouldn't mind, can we go somewhere else? My companions might not know how to react." she pleaded. Savisal might not react well if he saw one of the Saltus.

Saltus tilted his head to the side abruptly, caught off guard by not only being recognized, but also spoken to in such a way.

After a moment's thought, he dropped lightly to the ground, similar to that of a cat, except easily as big as any full-grown feline. He didn't quite deem the occasion worth his verbal communication quite yet, so he simply inclined his head respectfully at the humanoid, for she had met him with respect, and waited for her to lead the way.

Cherie glanced at the clearing where Zeia and Savisal is then she looked at the Saltus and bowed her head again. She walked towards the east where she can hear a brook nearby. She walked slowly and tried not to do anything that might make the Saltus behind her angry. She's awed at his presence. She wanted to see a Saltus and now it's a dream come true. But she's not as pure as she was and it might make the Saltus suspicious of her.

She stopped when they arrived at the brook and faced the Saltus. "Great one. I would like to apologize for intruding in your domain. We mean no harm to the forest. We're merely resting and we'll be gone afterwards. If we did something untowards to your creatures, we humbly ask your forgiveness." she said meekly.

"We were ambushed by 2 halflings and we found refuge here knowing that this place is safe. They are servants from the Ice crystal. One of my companion is a guard sent by the council to deliver and train the girl with us. But while on the way, we were attacked as I said earlier." she explained further. She really hope that it will not take offense of their staying in the forest.

"I've heard of your power. You can verify it yourself should you wish it. But I know that I'm not worthy to see your great power. All I ask is your understanding." she said as she lowers her eyes to the ground. She waits for the answer. It is so tranquil in there. All she can hear is the breeze and the tinkling sound of water in the brook.

Saltus Spiritus' deep chest rumbled in a very cat-like purr, pleased with not only the respect, but also of the praise, in whatever form.

After a moment, Saltus stared into the humanoid's eyes, and replied back, with telepathy, in a very deep, resonating mind-voice, "You speak well for your companions, and you know your place, which is more than what could ever be said, if rumors of other humanoids are true. The trees have been speaking of such a quest for years, for they know of things to happen, and speak of it before it ever starts. Ice is no ally of mine, for ice brings death to many of my charges. As such, I will join you and your companions, if such an action would be acceptable."

She was surprised how the Saltus approved of her. She smiled. It even wants to join them!

Humbly she said, "We are so grateful of your kindness. It would be such an honor for you to accompany us. We humbly accept it if that is your wish.". Now, the challenge is to present him to the other two. She doesn't know Savisal much so she can't say how he'll react. Zeia, on the other hand, might probably get scared or speechless. But she's a kind soul so there'll be no problem on that aspect.

"I don't want to take advantage of your kindness but I would like to make a simple request. My companions and I are looking for food sources since we haven't eaten since last night. Would you allow us to gather some fruits or mushrooms to eat?" she requested to him.

Saltus tilted his head again, curious and thoughtful of what she had said.
"Just because I am the forest guardian, does not mean that I am not aware of its inhabitants needs. Nor are animals as stupid or self-serving as you might think. If you wish for meat, there are, actually, deer and other animals, large and small, that are ready. Older, perhaps, but not beyond edibility. Every creature lives its life to the best of its abilities, but there comes a time when it is time, and they hold no regrets, or attempt to change their destiny. If you so wish for meat, then you will have it. If you wish for fruit, then you will find the trees surrounding us bearing it, passed from distant trees; you will find mushrooms at the roots, and berries in the bushes. The forest will provide, as long as it is a request, from a creature that cares not to harm, but to help.

However, if there should be any that wishes my forest harm, there shall be a curse upon their soul, and I can smell out curses like a shark to blood. An interesting comparison, I think, considering that the ocean lies not far from here."

The Saltus stopped suddenly, noticing his lengthy speech, already finding that he enjoyed his newfound voice. Mentally, he shrugged. Physically, he turned and moved towards the clearing, obviously intent on showing himself to the other ones, sure that he'd either be greeted well, and sure that if it did not start peacefully, that he could defend himself adequately.

His ears perked at a sound approaching. He turned to see Cherie with some kind of creature. His instincts were alert, but he sensed no danger from this thing.
"So you must be a saltus...never thought I'd get to meet one of you. Savisal the Transmogrifier." He stated his title as he bowed slightly. Seemed creatures were bounding out at them left and right.
"This is Zeia. We are escorting her to the nearest crystal as she has a duty to fulfill. We'll be out of your forest shortly..I assure you."

He would fight if he had to, but he didn't really want to do battle with a Saltus. They were legends..just like he technically was. Fighting one would prove daunting and be a waste of precious time.
