Discussion in 'THE TEST CHAMBERS' started by Ehb, Feb 29, 2016.

  1. This is an extra fancy thread that preserves BB posts either for a backup while editing one or for important BB posts that are still wip.

There are many threads like it but this one happens to be mine!

Hi There! This thread here is the Sign Up Thread. Please note that this thread is meant to exclusively be for character sheets and character rolls only! Our actual OOC discussions go on in a private chat thread, which all participants in the RP get invited to. This is done to keep this thread looking clean!

If you have questions about the RP, please feel free to message me. Otherwise, I invite you to take a look at the overview that I slaved over to look nice and neat for your convenience!

    • Forward:
The overriding theme of the RP is about how we make due with the things that fate has given us. In Hisakawa Koukou, you take the shoes of a character of your creation. But, important things, such as the bonds they share between people and their 'Academic Prowess' are decided entirely by a random number generator.

You will be challenged to act out how your character reacts to all sorts of different people in the cast. People they like, people they love, people they hate. There will be circumstances where you'll be the 'hero' and other times where you'll be a victim, or maybe even a villain. All the participants in the RP have an opinion of you (In character) and vice versa.

The RP takes place in the near future, where Virtual Reality has matured to a level where interactive 3d environments can be projected onto the real world. At this school, a special system, called Virtu-Avas allows students to engage one another in (very simplistic) battles with their stats being based upon on their grades in various subjects.

Participate in this cooperative 'Light Novel' where the bonds between characters are as multi-faceted as they are malleable. Can you properly act out a character that can play the many tones that this RP asks them to sing?

      Story:
Through everyone's lives, we make choices. Choices that can affect us far into the future. Choices the world made in the past lead to some good things, such as the advancement of Virtual Reality technology, and the elimination of social withdrawal in our Society. But for the students of Hisakawa Academy, the choices that matter to them are the ones that hit on a more personal level.

It's the middle of their second year in high school. The bonds between the students have been forged since the beginning of the year - and in many cases, since even before they even entered their first school. The choices that each student has made has potentially attracted and driven away people that they care about.

With adolescence coming to an end, and the specter of University entrance exams on the horizons, the students of Class 2-A only have a small amount of time to settle the unresolved mishaps of their youth, as well as having to deal with the 'incidents' that come up among each other in the day-to-day activities at school.

In a setting like Hisakawa, with it's now aging and horribly buggy Virtual Reality System causing trouble on an almost weekly basis, the 'end of adolescence' promises the possibility of some very vivid memories to look back upon years into their adulthood. Whether those memories be ones of Warm Nostalgia or Gloomy Melancholy, is something that they will have to decide for themselves.

      But never forget...

...be true to who you really are.

      How to Join:
Joining the RP can be summed up in 4 straightforward steps. Just note that you will have to make at least 1 post before actually posting your character sheet. This is due to you needing to get your 'randomly generated' character relations and grade stats.

IMPORTANT! Please Note that the OOC Thread here is Reserved For Character 'Rolls' and Character Sheets. In a nutshell, you're only going to post there once you've decided you really want to join. Please direct any questions about anything related to the RP to the Interest Check Thread or you can Message me.

Step 1 : Post Basic Information to Sign Up Thread

      1) Make a post in the OOC Thread. This information is used to help decide what relations your character may end up having with the others.

Name: (Your Character's Name) *note it's in Last Name, First Name Order
      Gender: (Your Character's Gender)
In a Family: (Whether You want your character to be 'siblings' with another character. Y/N)
Same-Sex Relationship: (Whether you want your character to be / have been involved in a Same Sex Relationship. Y/N)
Potential Romantic Rolls: (How many potential romantic relationships you want your character to be / have been involved in. Give a Number #. The 'meaning' behind these numbers are detailed below.)
      • 0 - Friendships Only
      • 1 - Involved/Was Involved with only one person.
      • 1+ - Involved/Was Involved in multiple relationships.
        • Which could mean the character was with several different people.
        • It could also mean that the character is actively 'cheating' at the start of the RP.

      Roll A Dice!
Once you have made a post, you will have the option to roll a dice in that post. This roll decides how how many extra points you can spend on your character's 'Grades Stats' affecting their Virtu-Ava power in relation to the other students. Roll a Dice of 60 Faces. This means your character can have up to 60 points on top of the default 40 every character gets.

(Here's a handy Image Showing How it Works)
      View attachment 87740

When you make this first post you will be invited to a Group Conversation. Please use this group conversation to ask questions or for discussions while the RP is still getting started, and to avoid getting the OOC messy at the start of the RP.

Step 2 : Gm Gives Relations

      2) GM Confirms they accept their intention to sign up. GM Provides:
      • The Randomly Generated Relationships with all of the involved players at this point.
        • In their character sheet, they can detail out the relationship in their character's words.
          • In the event that the character is REALLY new. Joining after the initial batch, the other characters won't be responsible for updating their own Relationship details for that new character. As all relationships are listed in a tab within the OOC thread. But it is encouraged, as the 'details in the character's own words' will not be copied over.
      • GM Adds player's character entry as 'WIP' in the cast list.

Step 3 : Fill Out and Submit Character Sheet

      3) Player uses the information to fill out the rest of their
      character sheet.

Try to think up of a character that contributes to the details of the world, rather than one that's just participating in it.

Please ensure the color will not make your text unreadable for at least the default black background. This will be readily be made available in the cast list section for players to quickly look up. FUN FACT: Want to know how many points it will take to make ALL of your stats the same letter grade? Just multiply the 'points required' by 10! Useful if you're trying to allocate all of your points as equally as possible.

      [Battle Actions]
(INFO: These 'battle actions' are the skills or techniques that your character use in battle that they may or may not yell the attack name of whenever they use it. But at the end of the day, no matter how flashy they look, they will still be beaten by the default karate chop if the stat's are in the opponent's favor. There are two types of 'Battle Actions'. Offensive Attacks, typically used when you strike first, or Defensive Counters, which are used when reacting to the former. You can technically come up with an unlimited number of attacks and use Offensive Attack and Defensive Counters interchangeably, but the school usually encourages students to fill something like the template below just so that all bases are covered. Again, the default attack is a karate chop.)

EXTRA HELP - Guidlines to Writing Battle Actions (open)

      Offensive Actions Requirements
      • Need to clearly state how your character inflicts damage to your opponent.
      • Must be properly of the Ranged (Arrows or Magic Spells) or Near Category (Sword Hits / Punching).

      Defensive Counters Requirements
      • Have to state how your character avoids getting damaged by an Opponent's attack.
        • Additionally, this must be appropriate to the sort of Attack Category it's supposed negate. (Ranged or Near)
      • Must state how your character inflicts damage to an opponent after the incoming attack is avoided / guarded against.

      Please Avoid:
      • Avoid stating that the skill has limited uses.
      • Avoid skills that involve mind reading
      • Avoid skill 'requirements' such as needing to be damaged by a certain element, or hit a certain number of times, etc.

In this RP, all of your relationships are randomly generated, this time through the GM handling your character submission rather than the Iwaku Dice Roll. It is up to you to detail the details of each relationship given to you. It's encouraged that you try doing it by having your character explain it through their own words.)

Step 4 : GM Review, Acceptance, and Confirmation

      • Once it is all clear, GM accepts the character

(INFO: Relationships describe how your character is associated with the other characters in the RP. In this RP, all of your relationships are randomly generated, this time through the GM handling your character submission rather than the Iwaku Dice Roll. It is up to you to detail the details of each relationship given to you. It's encouraged that you try doing it by having your character explain it through their own words.)

      Virtual Immersion

Virtual Reality has come a long way from wearing bulky googles on your head. Two major technologies are credited with founding today's modern field of Virtual Reality - known among experts are 'Virtual Immersion'. The two technologies credited for this are:

'Superimposed Active Render Field', which allows for a 3d environment to be displayed in the real world, and be interacted upon. The equipment to set up a field is slowly starting to become less expensive than it once was - and is seeing installation in public places such as Cafe's, Libraries, and even Schools across the country. This technology is based upon similar principles used in the US military's advanced stealth cloaking technology.

'Electropulsar Spinal Attatchment', An electronic device implanted onto a human's spinal cord. It interfaces with the Brain, allowing for sensations such as touch and feel to be simulated by directly inputting signals through the spinal cord. It was originally developed to force organ functions in the event that the brain dies so that the organs may be remain salvageable for hospitals.

All students in the RP can be expected to have the Electropulsar Spinal Attachment installed on them. Understandably, Adults and Elderly may or may not have this item equipped due to health concerns.

      Hisakawa Koukou

A Prestigious Japanese Academy that has 'embraced change' since it's founding over a hundred years ago.

Hisakwa was one of the first schools in Japan to embrace accepting international students. It has always encouraged an environment where students are taught to be free of any sort of prestigious, and to exercise independence and responsibility. It's longstanding tradition has made it a highly sought after school for students across the world. Many alumni have gone on to be very successful after graduating. The academy was also one of the first schools to adapt the Virtual Immersion system for it's entire campus. At the time, it was one of the biggest in the world, and most expensive. It implemented the Virtu-Ava system, which was adapted to other schools in Japan and across East Asia, as other schools began installing their own Virtual Immersion Systems.

But, only 6 or so years later, the system is now considered highly buggy and ancient compared to newer and more developed models. With the school still paying off it's debts from the old system, the students and staff at Hisakawa have to contend with the strange occurrences that the 'bugs' in the system cause on their daily school lives from time to time.

      Class 2-A

The class that everyone in the RP is assigned to by default. It's worth noting that, because we're under the Japanese School system, students stay with the same 'class' in all subjects.

Class 2-A is located on the second year floor of the school building. The only real notable feature about it is that it's conveniently located a door away from the bathroom on the floor. The teacher assigned to 2-A is the the somewhat detached but unexpectedly observant Mayu Yorihase. A shining example of the dip in the quality of teachers with the advent of electronic learning media. Teachers in this day in age only really exist to make sure students behave, and to give out assignments. Much of the 'teaching' is just done through a pre-recorded Virtual Immersion lesson made years ago.

      Social Morals Club

A club that exists solely to stamp out the formation of NEETS 'Not in Education, Employment, or Training' in Japanese Society as mandated by a government policy from decades ago.

the phenomenon of people withdrawing from society was observed at the start of the century. In the following decades, the government aggressively enacted social policies to discourage people from turning into NEETS across all levels. The problem is now considered more or less considered 'antiquated' but the national school system still requires students to participate in this club. Common Club activities include things as simple as 'take a friend somewhere' or 'help out the elderly in town'. Encouraging students to go out and be friendly and considerate citizens. Overall discouraging the development of any sort of phobias in regards to being in public.

      Details on Hisakawa's Virtu-Ava System
      Bug

In a nutshell, a bug is when one's computer program behaves in unexpected ways, sometimes but not always causing trouble.

Within the context of the RP, any sort of anomaly in regards the the Virtual Immersion system in Hisakawa is considered a bug. Enterprising students may end up discovering Bugs that they can use to their advantage. For example, it's rumored that Students who defeat a teacher in a Virtu-Ava battle get unlimited access to any room in the school in the immediate weekend, for some reason. A smart student who puts together the right bugs may inevitably end up stumbling upon the secret of the world.

      The Virtu-Ava System

Pioneered by students at Tokyo University's Computing Department. It started out as a simple semester project to show how Virtual Immersion can be used to create an 'unparalleled role-play game experience'.

The simple code design, and one enterprising students' excellent presentation to the National School Board, saw this system be implemented in schools. With the 'stats' based upon student grades. It was argued that it inspired students to work harder in school, and to have a sort of competitive team spirit, a direct answer to Prime Minister Wakabe's 'Social Thought Shift' proposal from the previous decade. Virtu-Ava tournaments are also now considered a sport, with national and global leagues existing outside of the school system. These run on much move complex rules than what students at the 'Japan National Academic League' would be used to.

      Virtu-Ava : Avatar Design

The Virtu-Ava system within the Japanese Education System allows students to design their own '3d Avatar' that they can use to replace their own appearance in school - presumably for Virtu-Ava Matches. For safety reasons, each student is only allowed one 3d Avatar. Though other establishments allow users to have as many different 'models' to switch to and from as they like.

The students are also taught 3d animation techniques by being encouraged to design their own 'Special Techniques' that they use in battle.

The battles themselves are rather simple, though. Once a fight is initiated, a random subject is chosen. The students respective grades are taken from that Subject, and used to gauge each others respective powers. The person with the higher grade emerges as the victor.

Virtu-Ava : Grade Stats and Battles

Grades for Virtu-Avas in the Hisawkawa System are decided by a unique test. Ideally, it was supposed be a test with questions in regards to things they were to learn within their respective year. However, due to a certain coding mishap, each test randomly draws from all High School Grade question banks as well as Tokyo university's Entrance Exam Test banks. This flaw was discovered early on during the development cycle, and despite many students' complaints over the years, this glaring bug remains in place. Thus, it can be said that the grades one gets for their Virtu-Ava is dependent almost entirely on a students' luck when taking the test.

Defeated students feel no pain. Rather just some minor to extreme fatigue upon defeat, simulated through proper signals from their spinal attachment. It is possible to simulate real pain, but that option is locked out in the school system for safety and ethical reasons.

For this reason, a Virtu-Ava battle can be used to stop someone on campus as a last resort.

      Relationship Pool
This is the pool of potential relationships that your character may end up having. Note that you do have some power over what sort of relationships you end up getting. As your first post for rolling character stat points allows you to choose things such as whether they may end upl be in a same sex relationship, or possibly a part of a family with other players, etc.

      Current Relationships Pool (open)

      Positive Relations

      Family (Positive)
      • Close Siblings - Your relationship with your sibling is warm. Talking to each other about each others problems and supporting each other is just the right thing to do for you two.
      • Protective Siblings - Maybe you care a little too much. You keep a keen eye on what's going on with your sibling's life, making sure you can fly in and help whenever possible.
      • Respectful Siblings - You view each other as separate people. You don't get into fights and get along just fine, but you two probably won't ever talk to each other again once you move out.
      • Two Sides of a Coin - Fraternal twins that don't hate each other. May or may not look similar to one another. Some twins have some strange parallel abilities, such as being able to complete each others sentences. Maybe you have something like that too?

      Friends (Positive)
      • Childhood Friends - You two have been friends since before elementary school. You two knew each other, and have lots of endearing stories about one another. You know you can count on one another in anything.
      • Best Friends - Much like a childhood friend, but you two became friends sometime in middle school. There was a time when both of you where involved in the same things and liked the same things. Though that may have changed, you two still share a strong bond.
      • Friend - The simplest form of friend is someone who's more or less a part of your social circle. You met them last year, and you both are at least more comfortable to be around one another than strangers.
      • Rivals - You two don't really see things eye to eye all the time. But that difference is more of a source or respect, even if you two may belittle one another at every chance.
      Lovers (Positive)
      • 'Childhood Promise' Lovers - You were inseparable from childhood, and so in high school it seemed natural to start dating. The feelings you have with one another run very deep.
      • 'From Middle School' Lovers - The first love letter came sometime during middle-school. Moving to high school couldn't tear you apart either.
      • Cohabiting Lovers - You placed enough trust in that other person that you decided to live under the same roof. Remember we're not libertine folks so it's a platonic situation at home as far as the public IC goes!
      • Mutual Fiance - Your relationship was a product of an arranged marriage between your parents but you both are okay with it, as well as one another.
      • New Lovers - A couple that got together in high school, love letter and all. You guys haven't even had your one year anniversary yet.
      • Shoujo Romance Couple - Everyone thinks that you two are a couple...but you clearly aren't, despite the fact that you two know everything about each other, have tons of things in common, literally think the same thoughts, and blush furiously when nearby. Just gotta confess your love... but the 'possibility' of the other person not feeling that way has become a massive roadblock in that endeavor.

      Negative Relations

      Family (Negative)
      • Estranged Siblings - You two don't like each other and tend to say it out loud to one another. Everything your sibling does just seems to senseless and infuriating!
      • Drifting Siblings - You two used cling to one another, but have both decided that you both want to grow up. You both avoid one another, even refusing to acknowledge each others existence.
      • Adopted Siblings - You two becoming siblings was a product of your parents getting married to one another. You two are now 'related' and are expected to act as family, but you just don't know one another like that.
      • Identity Crisis Twins - Twins always end up being compared to one another, and you two are sick of it! The only solution was to get as far away from each other as possible. Both of you ended up being convinced that you were better than the other.
      Friends (Negative)
      • Broken Childhood Friend - You two abandoned your friendship when you two met a long time ago.
      • Broken Middle School Friend - You two didn't see each other the same way once you got into middle school.
      • Broken Friend - You two abandoned one another once the first year of high school got into full swing. That memory is still painfully fresh.
      • Betrayed Friends - You both mutually did something really bad to one another in the past. Unlike the other 'broken friends' of this class, this is the one where you both broke your friendship yelling and screaming at one another. Metaphorically if not literally.
      • Arbitrarily Friends - You two are only 'friends' more because other people see you as a part of the same social circle than you two actually being friends. In reality, you two find aspects of one another discomforting, but never say it aloud.
      • Fierce Rivals - You two hate each others guts and everything the other one stands for.

      Lovers (Negative)
      • Deteriorating Lovers - For whatever reason, the relationship doesn't have the same spark it used have. After being with that person for a time, some of the things about them just, don't click right with you.
      • 'Broken Up' Lovers - You two just broke up recently. It just didn't work out.
      • 'Cheated' - You got caught! Then the other one got caught! You really don't want to be in the same room as this person anymore.
      • Forced Fiance - Your parents decided that the two of you should marry. The two of you met and... well, if there is one thing you two agree on it's that you two are only 'together' so as not to anger your parents.
      • Stalled Romance - Lovers, technically. You two also seem to have a hard time really opening up to one another. If you had to choose between saving your 'lover' or one of your best friends, you would possibly have a small bias towards that friend. Is it becoming apparent that you've gotten into an empty romance just for the sake of romance?

      School Calendar
This school calendar gives you a relatively straightforward idea of what's going on outside of the character drama. Oftentimes, the events on the school calendar serve as as backdrop for character drama!

Note that in the RP, time doesn't go on a day-to-day basis. Rather, we skip 'downtime' and try to only touch on what can be considered (potentially) important moments. ie. don't expect to make a page of posts in regards to how you went home, watched tv, and went to sleep, we're avoiding that kind of stuff.

      Calendar Events (open)

Based on HK's 2's School Calendar Karakui Made. If you have an idea for a school event, voice it out in the OOC conversation! The underlined day is the current day at the start of the current day.

      Green - Term One
      Yellow - Term Two
      Orange - Term Three
      Blue - Holidays separating terms

      • April 2nd: "Day one" - All new first years arrive at school and so begins the first term of the new year.
      • April 29th - May 5th: Golden week - essentially a week's holiday.
      • May 19th - May 22nd: School trip to Kyoto for all second year students, paid for by the school.
      [RP STARTS HERE!]
      • June 20th and 21st: Culture Festival. All clubs and classes are expected to prepare something for this. They all get June 19th free of lessons to set up. 20th is for students only, while 21st is open to the public, prioritizing family.
      • July 1st: Sports festival. Participation is optional for all events.

[Current Incident : Like Or Like?]

      • July 11th: Local Festival of the Sun, a highly dramatic fireworks festival honouring Amaterasu, the goddess of the Sun and the Universe. + Robert West's Birthday
      • July 17th and 18th: End of term exams for all students. Those who fail will take 1 or 2 weeks of additional lessons over summer break.

      • July 25th - September 3rd: Summer break. And that means swimsuit fanservice! Many students choose to timeskip through a considerable portion of this.

      • September 20th and 21st: HisaToke War - an interschool contest between two rival academies - Hisakawa and Tokeue. This is not only a sports contest - other clubs are capable of competing against their Tokeue counterpart provided the two clubs can agree on the rules of victory.
      • October 30th: Obligatory anime cliché test of courage.
      • December 14th and 15th: End of term exams for all students. Those who fail will get large amounts of catchup work to do over the break.

      • December 21st - January 4th: Christmas and New Year's holiday. Christmas is on the 25th and New Year is on the 1st. Many students choose to attend the New Year's festival at the nearby shrine.

      • February 15th - February 28th: Final exams for 3rd years. These are very important. During this time, 3rd year students do not need to attend lessons and may study at their own discretion. After these exams, 3rd years remain in the school and usually help out students in their studies for their own exams, although since it is technically a holiday for them, they are not obligated to do so.
      • March 15th and 16th: Finals for 1st and 2nd year students. Students who fail these exams are usually given additional lessons in the subjects they failed during the following year. These lessons take place for an hour before school each day so most people study hard to avoid them.
      • March 23rd: Graduation for applicable 3rd year students. Failing 3rd years are usually offered a chance to repeat the year, however, they cannot repeat the year twice and will be dismissed if they fail a second time.

      • March 24th - April 1st: Spring Break - a week for students to relax a bit before the new year. Many go home for a few days.

      RP's Intended Story Outline
I usually plan out my RP's to have a definite ending from the start. So, to hopefully entice people to follow through, this is the general outline of the RP that doesn't really spoil anything.

      Common Route (Current)

Incidents and Attempts at Resolutions Route (hoping for 2-3 to be completed)
Introduces characters and tests their relations, getting the cast comfortable with each other and the world.

Side Arcs (occur in between Incident Chapters)
      • National Academy Gambit War Side Arc (2-3 planned)
        • Adds a battle story tone. Adds elements to the battle system, features bosses.
      • Peculiar World Side Arc (3-4 planned)
        • Reveals more about the world. Hijinks and school 'bugs' are revealed. Key to unlocking the next part of the story.

      Endgame Route

      Betting the Devil Route
(Requires: Peculiar World Side Arc complete)
Changes the story and relationship dynamic dramatically. Plays more plays a bit more linearly than previously, and ultimately leads to an ending.

      • Uncertain Waltz Ending
        • 'Rp Died' Ending. If this is posted the RP is done.
      • Shuffle Loop Ending
        • Revert to Start of Arc, certain start conditions are changed with the next 'loop'.
      • Certain Mind Ending
        • 'True Ending'

    • General Rules
Here are some simple rules and requirements

      0. DO NOT USE THE OOC THREAD FOR

      1. No godmodding, bunnying, metagaming and so forth

      2. No playing another person's character without their permission or forcing another rper into allowing you to play their character

      3. Make well-balanced and believable character aka no Mary Sues or Gary Stues

      4. These types of RPs can become quite chaotic. If you notice that your conversation IC has begun to take up a considerable amount of space, please consider doing these things:
      - slowing down
      - taking the conversation to PM and posting it in bulk
      - waiting for the posts of 2 characters who are not in that conversation before posting to that conversation.

      5. So that it is easier for people to find posts relevant to them, please tag that person at the end of every IC post in which one of their characters is part of the conversation or is otherwise involved in the post. (Like this: @Karakui)

      6. Be respectful of all characters - if you have an issue with a character's sexuality, hobbies or anything else, feel free to leave. This does not apply to characters though, provided it is within that character's nature to be intolerant of those things.

      7. Be respectful of everyone - no fighting or insulting in the OOC thread. If you must do this, take it to PM. Do not take out your frustration on that person's character either, or you will get a stern telling off.

      8. Things of a nature beyond that of PG-13 should be RP'd within PM only. This must still comply with iwaku's rules on libertine and neither I nor co-GM @Ehb is saying that doing Libertine with an underaged/overaged user is OK.

      9. Now, to prove that you have read the rules (yeah, sorry, I just had to include this). In the relationship section, add an entry at the top for a character called 'The World'. In your character's words, describe the relation, using a derivative of 'I Accept My Life being Ruled by the RNG'. My own character sheet won't have it, but I'll write it here. It would look like:

      The World
"My Life is Undeniably Governed by the RNG."

If I see people who just copy paste this relation word for word, then I'll tell them to read over the rules again to get their character accepted.

      10. Follow the Suggested Posting Format when Posting In Character. See: Suggested Posting Format.

I Accept the RNG - Conflict Driven Changing Character Intentions Known as 'Incidents'
For much of the story, the conflict is driven mostly by the relations between characters being challenged.

Characters listed as Main characters will be eligible for being the focus of the RP. Conflicts will arise between them, challenging the established relationship that they currently hold. The name of the game in incidents is the 'changing of a character's intentions'. An intention change can be good, like two broken friend characters wanting to make up. Alternatively, it might be bad, such as two lover characters getting into a quarrel.

Yes, this does mean that I do basically point at your characters and say 'do something interesting' like some sort of director. Again do try to think of it as a challenge of me pushing you into a potentially unexplored and maybe uncomfortably conflictiouous(?) position. You may be a bad guy, or you may be a victim. It's all up to how the incident is handled.

When an incident is declared, I just make a post announcing a new 'chapter'. It gives two characters and their related incident. The story will immediately jump to 'after the fact' that the incident has happened, with exposition explaining what had happened in away that details can be filled in later by the incident characters if they wish. So, in a nutshell, the 'conflict introduction' is already put out of the way, and the characters are already in the middle of either making initial reactions or finding away to resolve it.

Once the 'incident' begins in the character threads. Everyone will have a certain amount of time to complete it. (Typically done by page counts). This generally gives you all an idea of whether to hurry up or take things more easily. Once the limit is passed, the incident ends, and relationships may end up being re-evaluated once it's over. As a general rule, the only relationships that change are those between the incident characters. This is done so we don't have too many 'tweests' happening all at once. Alternatively, incidents may be put on hold and revisited later if people disappear. As an incentive, a separate story arc covering another aspect of Hisakawa becomes eligible to run after an incident is successfully seen through.

There's also a pool of various incidents that I keep mentally. Though you can also suggest incidents for your characters in the OOC thread. Also note, that your same-sex preferences will also be respected for situation where your character develops a crush on another character (A valid kind of incident).

Please not that in order for tihs to work it does require the participants to be pretty driven! So please note that listing yourself as a 'Main Character' and being selected for being involved in an incident contributes directly to how well the RP does.

Communication is Important! - Please Keep the Discussions / Chatting in the Conversation Thread!
Please reserve the main OOC thread for:

      • Character Sheets
      • Sign Up Posts (such as the Character Roll Post)
      • It's basically the character sheet / update thread.

A Separate Discussion Will Be Made for everyone in the RP. When you make your first post in the OOC thread you will immediately be invited. Please use that discussion for:
      • General Chatting
      • General Questions About Signups or the RP In General
      • General Plot Discussion
      • Everything Else.
Since posting in the OOC implies that you are already intending to join the RP. If you have questions about the RP but don't want to 'commit' yet. you have may send me a personal message. Just make sure to include the RP's title in the message title, as well as be clear in what you want to ask me about in regards to the RP, and I'll be able to assist you to my fullest!

Alternatively, you can make a post in the interest checking thread if that's more convenient.

      Announcing Absences
I do understand that everyone has IRL stuff, and it is indeed much more important that pretending to Japanese High Schoolers. However, please show me and the other RP's common courtesy when you know you're going to be gone.

      'I'm Busy'
If you're going to be more inactive or gone for a while, consider letting us know about it beforehand. You may get set to the ''Secondary Character' Type to show you're gone but not out. Saying when you're probably going to be back is also appreciated. You may also get set as a secondary character when you do not respond back to me.

You can switch back to being a 'Main Character' whenever you get back! Just announce it in the discussion.

      'I Gotta Drop'
I am completely fine if you have to drop the RP. I am not okay if you drop, stop posting, and not say anything about it until I have to go sniffing you out myself.

Hisakawa Battle Help Part 1 - Random Stat Matchup Basics

Hisakawa Koukou Utilizes Iwaku's Dice Function as the primary decider of how battles between characters go. In the simplest sense, the Dice Roll Decides which Grade Stat is used to determine the character's relative powers. The character with the higher 'grade' in the selected stat is the one who wins the battle. In the spirit of the Tales nomenclature, this is known as the: "Random Stat Matchup" (RSM) Battle System.

In the base form of RSM limits battles to be one-on-one encounters. There is always an 'attacker' and a 'defender'. The attacker is the one who imitates the battle, and the defender is merely the attacker's target. Understanding if your character is an attacker or defender is important, as it decides the sort of skills they can use in a particular engagement.

Attackers Utilize Offensive Attacks from their Battle Actions.

Defenders (Attempt to) Utilize Defensive Counters from their Battle Actions.

Thus, it can be said that a 'battle' in RSM involves and Attacker Utilizing one of their Offensive Actions, while the Defender responds with one of their Defensive Counters. The character who has the higher 'Grade Stat' - chosen by the Dice Roll - is the one who wins.

In any battle, the most important information you'll need is in regards to your characters respective grade stats, as well as the Battle Actions Available to them. This information can easily be looked up in the Sign Up Thread's Cast List.

Additionally, the grade stats and their associated Dice Roll Numbvers are as follows:

The Skeleton Format - Basic Required Information for Virtu-Ava Fights

The basic required information for a virtu-ava battle are the appropriate [] statements. How detailed you get for everything else is entirely up to you, and how much you want to improvise. By this system, there is a chance that you'll win or lose, but please try to be earnest in accepting and rping either outcome.

In either case, it is the 'defender' who immediately acts out the result of the battle. Whether it be being vanquished, or successfully countering and defeating them. In the event that a 'cancel out' occurs between the attacks. The defender is allowed to conduct their own attack, becoming the attacker.

Remember that the base format, and the sole requirements for conducting Virtu-Ava Battles are the following:

      Basic Format Skeleton (open)

      Attacker's Post:
The Attacker is the one who engages another player's character.

Attacker Declares their Attack (Always the Same)
      • [ATTACKER_NAME Challenges DEFENDER_NAME to a Battle!]
      • [ATTACKER_NAME attacks DEFENDER_NAME with OFFENSIVE_ATTACK_NAME!]
      • [Iwaku Dice Roll - Out of 10]

      Defender's Post:
The Defender Checks to see which 'Grade Stat' was selected by the dice. They compare their character's and the attacker's stats to decide the outcome. The character with the higher grade stat wins.

if the Attack is Successful (Attacker Grade Stat > Defender Grade Stat):
      • [ATTACKER_NAME Successfully Hits DEFENDER_NAME!]
      • [ATTACKER_NAME is Victorious!]

If the Attack is Countered (Attacker Grade Stat < Defender Grade Stat):
      • [ATTACKER_NAME'S OFFENSIVE_ATTACK_NAME Fails!]
      • [DEFENDER_NAME Successfully Counters with DEFENSIVE_COUNTER_NAME!]
      • [DEFENDER_NAME is Victorious!]

If the Attack 'Cancels Out' With the Defensive Counter (Attacker Grade Stat = Defender Grade Stat):
      • [ATTACKER_NAME'S OFFENSIVE_ATTACK_NAME Cancels Out With DEFENDER_NAME'S DEFENSIVE_COUNTER_NAME!]

(From here the Defender Goes on to be the attacker in the next match, hopefully deciding the winner in the next run.)

Remember that Engaging in a Virtu-Ava Battle in universe carries about the same weight as actually fighting someone in person. Under this system you can attack someone who isn't necessarily willing, however, note that this is frowned upon In Character and Out of Character unless it's done correctly. Ie. don't make your character seem like an aggressive psychopath without good reason.

  3. Nations

    The Western Duchies
These nations reside to the west of thge now occupied eastern dukedoms. Originally safe from the Empire's ambitions to take the dukedoms, they now face the fallout of the fall of constantinopolis, and the now stand in the forefront of the defense of the entire continent. While the Empire of Galatia is settling itself down in it's now conquiered territories, will the western duchies be able to put aside their differences to reclaim constantinoplis, or will they be fated to fall to the next thrust of the Galatian Empire into the continent?

    The Duchy of Londinium
A snowy nation, residing upon an island just off of the continent. The people of Londinium have enjoyed relative safety from infighting between other western duchies.

A century ago, the Duchies of Londinium, Parasia, and Brandenburgen were all united on the Duke Averik. Londinium itself was the newest dutchy, as it had just been conquered from the local peoples a generation prior to Duke Averik's reign. Though now peaceful, the Isle of Londinium during Duke Averik's time was chaotic. With revolutionaries pushing for the reclamation of the realms taken by those 'vile continentals'. Peace was finally achived after the great duke renounced his claim to the island - thus allowing a native duke to take rule over the realm. It was after this period that Londinium saught to strengthen it's ties with the continent through trade and commerce.

It's fierce and honerable Duke, Edward the Valient, champions the cause for the reclamation of the Eastern Dukedoms. Edward prides in his footmen's ability to engage his foes at range with their powerful longbows, or close in with their dangerous maces.

    The Duchy of Parisia
A large nation in the vast and fertile heartlands of the continent. The people of Parasia have enyjoed a peace that has come to be taken for granted.

When Duke Averik died, he divided his two realms between his two sons. To his son, Lorriane was bequeathed the lands of Parasia. A gifted statesmon, Lorriane was able to accomplish much in his reign. Bringing peace and prosperity to his Duchy. Upon his death, his successors were able to rule with utmost ease thanks to his efforts. However, the fall of the Eastern Duchies has caused an air of uncertainty across the Western Duchies. The current Duke, Lord Brittany, is uncertain of whetgher to answer the calls by the Pope to join the crusade to retake the Eastern Duchies. Despite posessing some of the most well equipped armies on the continent. Duke Brittany's refusal to commit forces to the crusade has been a dividing point among the Western Duchies.

The Parisian Knights, clad in armor, are renowned for being able to smash through any enemy line. Parasia posesses the best cavalrymen in the West.

    The Grand Duchy of Brandenburgen
Residing East of Parasia, and Just West of the now occupied Eastern Duchies, Brandenburgen is no stranger to war.

A mountainous and heavily forested realm. Brandenburgen the other half of Duke Averik's Realm split between his two sons. Lorianne ruled the vast countryside of Parasia to the east, while Bismahrk ruled the mountainous region that bordered the Eastern Duchies, and wastes of the Greater North. This realm was beset by conflict with the other Eastern Duchies, as well as mysterious oriental invaders coming from the wastes. Despite this. the Forests and Mountainous Terrain had time and time again become a great graveyard for armies trying to invade the continent. With the fall of the Eastern Duchies, Brandenburgen now faces a new threat, of the massive Galatian Empire and it's agressive ambitions. Grand Duke Berin, the supereme Duke of the Western Dukedoms, has answered the Pope's pleas for a Crusade to retake the East. Duke Barin Finds himself at a crossroads in history. As the defeat of the Galatians could lead to great gains, while his own defeat will no doubt lead to the fall of the rest of the continent.

The Soldiers of Brandenburgen has fought off invaders for over a century, and have wiped out invading armies numbering twice their own number. They are experts with the bow and employ ambush tactics effectively.

    The Duchy of Tuscanie

    The Eastern Occupied Dukedoms

    Thracia

    Macedonia

    Epirus

Achia (The Crusader State of Achia)

    "Timeless Time" - Mami Kawada
(Due to the Relevant Youtube Videos for the Original Being NSFW, Here's a SFW Nightcore One)

    Intro Theme:

    Forward:
Hisakawa Koukou: HaRD ReSET is a Japanese High School RP set in a future where the characters are embedded with special chips that effectively make them their own smartphones/computers. (Though smartphones and computers remain commonplace for most other people). The RP is all about interactions and conflicts that arise between the players' characters in the RP. Sometimes, they happen naturally, and sometimes they are triggered by the GM randomly. In this RP, it is hoped that your characters can bond, clash, and grow together as they face the daily happenings in school.

Though the world of Hisakawa is Based off the world as it was in it's previous incarnation, the actions of certain individuals created this break-off universe. The price was that this world is not as peaceful or safeguarded as the other one...

" It Hurt to Care So I Stopped Altogether "

      Story
The Mid-Twentieth Century will no doubt be remembered for how Virtual Reality Changed became an integral part of the world. This Virtual Reality is a far cry from the comedic bulky and expensive equipment that people needed 30 years ago. Now, Virtual Reality can be completely immersive. Allowing people to see, touch, feel, and experience a whole entire new world from in front of their computer. Equipment that allowed for this 'Full Immersion' is now about as easy to acquire as a Television. Once the technology to miniaturize this equipment is perfected, then maybe the smartphone and tablet will go the way of the television, and become antiquated.

In truth, the technology to allow for this already exists. By surgically implanting a special chip into a person's spine, they can experience completely immersive virtual reality without so much as lifting a finger. Practically controlling a whole computer with their mind. However, there were many ethical and security concerns that came with this. Which made it even more surprising when the Japanese Government Mandated that all newborns be implanted with this new device. This law was repealed a mere three years after it went into effect.

This RP follows the story of people from this generation. Their Chips give them a definite edge over other people - being able to send mail, play a game, or browse the internet is second nature to them. However, the security issues of the chips were never truly resolved. At the time, it was thought that the complexity of the chips, and an emergency security patch was enough to keep these children protected until the chips were removed.

For the students at Hisakawa High School, the aforementioned backstory is superfluous details. No one is smart enough to hack into those chips, nor are they cruel enough to take advantage of them, right? The biggest issues for these students lie in the many rudimentary problems that arise between themselves and the people around them. Little do they know, that the bonds and divides that they form in this short time will shake the foundations of their world.

      How to Join:
Like with the original RP, joining Hisakwa Koukou can be summed up in 4 straightforward steps. Just note that you will have to make at least 1 post before actually posting your character sheet. This is due to you needing to get your 'randomly generated' character relations and grade stats.

In Both Cases You will need to have your character sheet accepted by me before taking part in the In Character thread.

      New Characters
Post Your Intention to Join in the Sign Up Thread by asking me for relationships rolls, and posting the basic information about your character. Please include:

Name: (Last Name, First Name Please)
      Age: ( # ) (High School Age, 15-17)
      Gender: (M/F/?) (Actual Physical Gender)
Romantic Rolls: ( # ) (Denotes number of potential romantic relationships - can be 0, 1, or 1+)
Same Sex Relationships: (Y/N) (States your preference in having your character being romantically involved with someone of the same sex)
Trope Relationships: (Y/N) (Usually, most relationships are simple and mutual, like 'Friends'. Saying yes to this allows for other relationships that may not be so mutual, but can lead to interesting outcomes. For example, Master/Servant allows for someone to be a maid/butler and the like, possibly. Again, remember this is completely random, and the pool these are drawn from are kept secret!)

Once your character's relationships are given, fill out the Character Sheet below! Remember: Relationships Rolls are required for your character sheet, and the above submission is needed for me to be able to roll for your character!

Go straight to the character creation section, and fill it out! Once completed, post it in the Sign Up/OOC thread. Please do NOT POST IN THE IC until it has been approved!

Finally, please consider EDITING your draft post rather than posting multiple progressively completed copies. Just wanted to put that out there.

      Returning Characters
PLEASE Follow the same procedures as above.Your 'Family' Statuses and some important relationships may be kept intact, but otherwise, things shall get re-rolled.

In this world,. the relationships you had with people whom have 'departed' still exist. It's simply that in this world, due to various circumstances, those people are no longer regularly involved in your life. You may refer to them in your bio or descriptions, or even in the story, but DO NOT put them in your current relationships.

      Character Sheet
Once you have decided to join, and have posted your initial post in the sign up thread. Fill out this humble character sheet. Write a character that contributes to the setting in the world, and do try to write one you'll find fun to play as. Also, be sure to look over the Rules and Guidelines, after the Character Sheet. This is important!

      Character Sheet

      [Core Information Section]
(INFO: This is the basics of your character as a... character. Be sure to think hard about the kind of person they are!)
[Insert your character's favorite quote here]
[Real (anime) appearance of your character here, try downsizing really large pictures!]
      Character Color Code:
(INFO: A unique color number associated with your character. This is primarily so your character's dialogue can be highlighted with this color in posts. You can look up a color number in the rich text editor by opening the drop-down menu of 'text color' by 'font size,' and then pressing the word 'Custom...'. Please ensure the color will not make your text unreadable for at least the default black background. This will be readily be made available in the cast list section for players to quickly look up. Note that if a character is listed as 'inactive/dropped' you are allowed to take that character's color for your new character.)

Full Name: (Last Name, First Name Format)
Age: (Students - 15 to 18, students will be second years by default)
      Date of Birth: (Day, Month)
      Sex: (Physical, biological gender)

Most Relevent Sin: (Your character's most relevant fault. This helps GM's figure out how to make conflicts for you.)
Most Relevant Virtue: (Your character's most relevant virtue. This helps GM's figure out how not to completely screw you over)
Most Relevant Ideology: (Anarchy, Order, Control - The choice made here decides Which GM character may potentially have a history with you, and ultimately, the one you might have to someday save.)

Likes: (Things that your character find themselves gravitating towards when it they see or hear of it)
Dislikes: (Things your character find apprehensive when it comes up.)
Hobbies: (Things Your Character Does in their Spare Time. Things that you can expect them to want to talk about if the topic is brought up.)
Fears: (Nothing is still not a valid fear.)

      Reputation:
(INFO: Your Character's Reputation is a description of how an average student would see your character as. Do consider trying to cover how they act around friends, enemies, and strangers for your own reference and for the reference of other participants. Peculiar things that people see this character do, or things they usually carry around can be mentioned here.)

      Self Introduction:
(INFO: A self introduction in the character's words where they recall what they feel is the most important event to ever happen in their life. Something that defined who they are. Have fun with this, because it is from this 'monologue' that the baseline of who your character is as a person is drawn from. It is also an important thing for other players to gauge how they could act around you in general, especially people who are supposed be close to your character.)

Character Theme: (INFO: What is playing in the background when you're character is introducing themselves/When the scene is focused on them? This will be linked in the cast list.)

Character Battle Theme: (!Optional) (INFO: What is playing when you're writing your post, attacking or responding to an attack from this character? This will be linked in the cast list.)

Character Voice Actor: (!Optional) (INFO: Have a voice actor that is exactly what you want everyone to think your character sounds like? List them here! If you can find a video of that voice on youtube or something, EVEN BETTER!)

      [Virtu-Ava Section]
(INFO: This section contains details about your character's Virtual Avatar used in the school. Such as the character's, appearance, and their library of techniques and skills for use in battle.)

[Virtu-Ava (anime) Appearance of Character Here]
(INFO: The appearance of your Virtu-Ava. The image of the Virtu-Ava is superimposed over your own when you invoke it on school grounds, or other locations that have the infrastructure to support Virtu-Ava Battles. You have the option of not having anything for this one, if the character is always in their normal appearance.)

      Weapon:
(INFO: The weapon your Virtu-Ava carries in combat. Lots of students like to write long and detailed weapon biographies for this. Probably from their creative adventure stories. The default weapon is one's hands. You can also add in an image of it if you find one.)

      [Battle Actions]
(INFO: These 'battle actions' are the skills or techniques that your character use in battle that they may or may not yell the attack name of whenever they use it. But at the end of the day, no matter how flashy they look, they will still be beaten by the default karate chop if the RNG favors their opponent.

Your character has a total of Six 'Skill Slots'. In these skill slots, you explain a type of action that the character performs that explicitly attacks a single opponent. Each of these attacks can fall into three categories: GUARD, HEAVY, and FAST. This is done so that they can directly translate to ROCK, PAPER, and SCISSORS for the purposes of deciding who the winner is. Though this is explained in detail later, in general:

      GUARD beats FAST
      FAST beats HEAVY
      HEAVY beats GUARD

Again, the default attack is a karate chop.)

      Skill 1:
      [Skill Name]
      TYPE: (Fast, Heavy, or Guard)
      DESCRIPTION:

      Skill 2:
      [Skill Name]
      TYPE: (Fast, Heavy, or Guard)
      DESCRIPTION:

And so on, for a REQUIRED Minimum of 3.

      [Relationships Section]
(INFO: Relationships describe how your character is associated with the other characters in the RP. In this RP, all of your relationships are randomly generated, this time through the GM handling your character submission rather than the Iwaku Dice Roll. It is up to you to detail the details of each relationship given to you. It's encouraged that you try doing it by having your character explain it through their own words.)

      Rules and Guidelines
A Fabulous Guide on how to make RPing in Hisakawa a breeze!

      General Rules

      General Rules
Here are some simple rules and requirements

(Like this: @Ehb )

This must still comply with iwaku's rules on libertine. This is NOT saying that doing Libertine with an underaged/overaged user is OK.

Accept the RNG to Your Life!

I Accept the RNG - Conflict Driven Changing Character Intentions Known as 'Incidents'
For much of the story, the conflict is driven mostly by the relations between characters being challenged. Outside of the main narrative 'incidents' occur between the other parts of the cast. Potentially gaining more focused if the participants are invested enough!

Players who actively participate in the RP will find that conflicts will arise between them, challenging the established relationships that they currently hold.

There's also a pool of various incidents that I keep mentally. Though you can also suggest incidents for your characters in the OOC thread. Also note, that your same-sex preferences will also be respected for situation where your character develops a crush on another character (A valid kind of incident).

Please not that in order for this to work it does require the participants to be pretty driven! Play it and it'll play out! In other words, don't be afraid to be involved in the story even if you fee like you're throwing yourself in there!

      Communication and Absences

Communication is Important! - Please Keep the Discussions / Chatting in the Conversation Thread!

Please reserve the In Character thread for:
      • Roleplaying in Character
A Signup/OOC thread Will Be Made for everyone in the RP. Please use that discussion for:

      • Character Sheets
      • Sign Up Posts (such as the Character Roll Post)
      • General Questions About Signups or the RP In General
      • General Plot Discussion
      • Everything Else.
If you have questions about the RP but don't want to 'commit' yet. you have may send me a personal message. Just make sure to include the RP's title in the message title, as well as be clear in what you want to ask me about in regards to the RP, and I'll be able to assist you to my fullest!

      Announcing Absences
I do understand that everyone has IRL stuff, and it is indeed much more important than pretending to Japanese High Schoolers. However, please show me and the other RP's common courtesy when you know you're going to be gone.

      'I'm Busy'
If you're going to be more inactive or gone for a while, consider letting us know about it beforehand. Saying when you're probably going to be back is also appreciated.

You can come back whenever you wish! Just announce it in the discussion!

      'I Gotta Drop'
I am completely fine if you have to drop the RP. I am not okay if you drop, stop posting, and not say anything about it until I have to go sniffing you out myself.

      Achievements:
The Story's Progress is measured through these achievements! Not sure what the GM is planning and want a hint, just look at the achievements!

      Arc 1:
      The Antisocial Delinquent of Hisakawa
Our Story Begins with an accident. Well, a series of accidents that disturb the day-to-day activities of the students trying to get through the day at Hisakawa. It is no secret that Hisakawa's Virtual Reality systems, once hailed as the most advanced and innovative in the world, are now buggy and occasionally break down. However, as of late, the 'bugs' in the system have been causing misfortune for people in the class. People running into walls is an occasional mishap if you walk down the hallways at the wrong time. But last week, several people were injured when they fell down stairs. People running into walls has become more commonplace outside of that cursed hallway. This, among other things, seems to be pointing to someone causing these glitches to happen to unsuspecting victims. Will someone in the class step up to put a stop to this before someone gets really hurt?

      • First Word!
        • The First Reply! This is the junk achievement developers use to show their achievement system is working, but feel free to enjoy it!
      • Someone Who Cares
        • Helped Mizunohara see things more reasonably, and helped the class make it's first step in finding the culprit!
      • Let's DUEL!
        • Initiated a Virtu-Ava Battle for the first time. Convincing people is easier when you've beaten them up!
      • Dangerous Technos
        • Witnessed the effects of a 'Hacker' Firsthand. This wasn't in the job description...!

      Hisakawapaedia
A Collection of definitions and subjects that discuss details unique to the world.

      General Topics:
      Hisakawa Koukousei

      Hisakawa Koukousei
A Japanese High School located in the town of Hisakawa.

Notable for being one of the first schools to heavily use Virtual Reality equipment after an extensive remodeling. The upgrade pioneered the use of Virtual Reality in educational institutions in Japan. Now, five years after that remodel schools nationwide now employ similar systems.

      Hisakawa Koukousei

      Social Morals
A program initiated to combat the NEET (Not Employed, Education, or Training) Phenomenon that plagued the country at the start of the century.

It employs students at all school levels to help themselves and their peers grow into happy and productive members of society. Various activities include community service, field trips to important places, and learning about why staying home for the rest of one's life playing games and browsing the internet is ill advised. 'Social Morals Officers' also serve as their respective class' representatives, though this isn't always the case.

      Technology Topics:
      VR Chips

      VR Chips
A special chip attached to the spines of individuals, which directly interfaces with their nervous system, allowing for a more immersive virtual reality.

Commonly known as Chips, for a short 2 years, the nation mandated that all newborns have this installed onto them after birth. On the grounds that it would give them an edge in a future now wholly revolving around the computer and internet - and also save on facilities costs for the education system. A Chip allows a student to browse the internet, type up papers, or practically anything else one could do with a computer through their mind. The VR Chip User from that generation can type out word documents at, on average - A Thousand Gross Words Per Minute.

Though - as always, an internet connection and phone signal is required for certain functions. Additionally, students can experience immersive Virtual Reality. Being able to touch and feel the environments rendered before them.

      Virtual Avatar Battles

      Virtual Avatar Battles
An impressive game of rock-paper-scissors - popularly Shortened to 'Virtu-Ava Battles'..

When Virtual Reality hit the market several decades ago, developers quickly strove to make games that could let a player control and experience the game world through the eyes of their character on the computer. Nowadays, developers strive to bring that experience out into the real world. Naturally, this lead to people challenging each other in their fantastical virtual fantasy forms in the real world. 'Virtual Combat Sports' helped regulate what was initially a profoundly dangerous and outlawed application - though it didn't stop the general public - mainly over-imaginative teenagers, from engaging in virtual combat in their free time. Some Virtu-Ava 'Gangs' Exists around Hisakawa, Battling it out for top honors.

The battles themselves are quite simple. Character's abilities are called 'Skills'. Each skill falls into 3 categories, and the outcome of an encounter is decided based on which respective skills' category is. The three Categories are: Fast, Hard, and Guard. Where:

      Fast Skills beat Hard Skills,
Hard Skills beat Guard Skills and,
      Guard Skills beat Fast Skills

Though simulated pain is never inflicted - instead, damage felt through simulated fatigue. Ultimately, the game grinds down to whom is able to resist the simulated fatigue effects for long enough. For the purposes of this RP, the victor is typically decided after the first exchange of skills, unless Rule of Cool is Applied for particularly important fights.

      Bug

      Bug
Describes when a computer program behaves in away that isn't expected or intended.

In the context of Hisakawa, these are lapses in the school's virtual reality systems that are to be weary of or that can be exploited. Student Sagawa Mizunohara apparently knows of some of these bugs, and actively looks for them.

One really well known bus is the Infamous Defeat Bug.
      • Defeat Bug
        • When someone is defeated in a Virtual Avatar Battle, the loser's fatigue meter temporarily hits max, temporarily making moving their body incredibly difficult for a time. This is defect in the distributed 'Virtu-Ava Battle' Software that's readily available to the general public. The fest is only momentary. Enough to stop someone running away.

      Hackers

      Hackers
An individual whom performs malicious things on the computer in ways beyond physical force.

Since the advent of the Internet, these highly skilled computer specialists have wrought all levels of havoc and destruction on those unfortunate enough to get targeted. In today's world most juvenile hackers use their skills to shut off Virtual Reality Render Equipment in the game shops in the city or Deface a Random Website Page. On the other end of the scale they can hack into the 'impenatrable' defenses of the VR Chip installed in some individuals. Potentially putting that person's life in danger, depending on what they do.

The Government says that such things are merely rumors - however...

    Likes:
    • Meat Buns: Sagawa's Favorite food. She miraculously is always one of the first people to get to the lunch room, even though she doesn't look particularly athletic. Her love of Meat Buns is so well known that some students failing on coding projects use it to get her help on coding projects. Her favorite shop for meat buns is... surprisingly, the school cafeteria's.
    • Quiet: Being free of the chatter of her classmates is bliss for Sagawa. As such, she often finds herself gravitating towards the library during whatever free time she has, giving her the ability to peacefully take a nap or waste time doing nothing in general. Maybe it's more accurate to say that she enjoys ambient atmospheres?
    • Karma at Other People's Expense: While she would never go out of her way to belittle people unless directly confronted, she secretly enjoys it when other people get their just due for whatever it is they do. Something akin to hearing about an animal poacher getting caught in his own trap. She finds the failures of her other classmates to be entertaining when it has nothing to do with her.
    • Headpats and Being Spoiled: Secretly, she wishes her big brother was still around. Don't try this out of the blue though, as that usually leads to getting slapped away. Still, she becomes a bit more receptive when given things - a-la Meat Buns for Homework Help.
    Dislikes:
    • Loud and Pushy People: Completely insufferable in every way possible, but remarkably entertaining when things turn out badly for them. Sagawa finds it incredibly grating when she sees people who are wholly convinced of themselves about them being right that they disregard anything else but their own opinion.
    • Public Displays of Affection: Seeing her peers hormones in full action makes her want to temporarily go blind. That being said, she's more temperamental towards the more natural looking relationships she sees among adults. Really, she just feels incredibly self-conscious when she sees people making out in public.
    • Graduation: Secretly, Sagawa is anxious about what to do after completing High School. It's a given that she's good with computer programming - as her own father was a lead developer. However, he died prematurely due to work related stress and fatigue. The thought that she's destined to go down a similar route worries her - and growing up in general.
    • Group Projects: She Almost Always ends up doing all of the work on her own. Additionally, Group Meetings just end up being no different than sitting around and talking at lunch. The only difference is that she's forced to sit in an established group of friends to drive her anti-sociability home even harder.
    Hobbies:
    • Programming: Sagawa has been playing with the text editor and compiler functions available on her chip since she was taught how to access them. Understanding code comes naturally to her. In computer classes, she can finish week-long programming projects the day after being assigned them.
    • Wandering: Despite her stature and appearances, Sagawa can sometimes be found wandering places where you'd expect to see delinquent gangs roaming. She freely explores without a care in the world. She likes to explore around school as well, trying to find lapses in the school's Virtual Reality Systems, known as Bugs.
    • Trading Cards: While online programs allows for most collectible card games to be played online without never needing to buy a card, Sagawa puts out some of her allowance to buy physical copies of the cards and decks she takes a liking to after playing them in the virtual programs. She primarily plays the dueling masters card game. She carries her physical deck with her like she does her house keys and wallet.
    • Cooking: Considering her single mother is busy trying to keep up with work so her daughter can still attend school. Sagawa returns the favor by keeping their apartment tidy, cooking, and doing all other chores. Among all these chores, Sagawa's favorite is Cooking, and her personal favorite dish is the omelette.
    Fears:
    • Agression: Sagawa has had a history with delinquents and delinquent behavior. Though such behavior isn't something one would ever expect from just attending high school, Sagawa does have a bit of experience with it, as someone close to her had a very short fuse. She handled that person's outbreaks out of obligation, but she never really got used it.
    • Delinquent History: A long time ago, in middle school, someone in Sagawa's family was involved with a gang. That same person got into serious trouble for some of the things that they did. Thus far, Sagawa hasn't ever been connected to that person, however, grudges against her brother's deeds still do exist.
    • Dogs: One of Sagawa's most vivid childhood memories was being bit by a dog. The fear has been embedded into her ever since. Even the small ones that fit in a purse make her uneasy.
    • Escalators: She never could really understanding the timing of getting onto an escalator, or get over the anxiety of accidently putting her foot on the part that 'splits' as the escalator moves forward. Sagawa walks the extra distance to take the elevators or stairs whenever she gets the chance.

    Reputation:
Sagawa's Closest friends would probably describe her as being spoiled, but good natured. But more than anything else, she was the 'little sister' that was always following after her brother. If not somewhat of a brat at times. Her friends from childhood are aware that, despite everyone else's best efforts, she has a hard time getting along with new people without her brother. Knowing she secretly wants to get along with more people. Regular People know of her as being proficient with computer assignments who can be bribed with meat buns in a pinch, but otherwise keeps to herself. Enemies will probably remember being told they were annoying at some point, once.

    Self Introduction:
"All of my life, I've been surrounded by foolish people. The places, the times, and the situations would always change, but the fact that the people inhabiting all of scenarios were foolish would always remain a constant. My mother married to the first person who asked her out in high school, and that person ended up being unable to handle work and his family. Still, he worked hard, so much that his spirit was able to forge ahead, and leave it's physical body behind. Then, my brother tried - in his own foolish way, to be father's replacement. But, back then he was too young to actually work, so he became convinced that he had to be the strongest boy in the neighborhood. It inevitably lead to him being a delinquent - and it brought trouble to both me and everyone else in the family. One day, his deeds caught up with him, and his story ended when he had to answer for the things that he was charged with.

So, when I went into high school, I decided that chances were, I'd end up being a fool as well. Brother was a fool, no doubt, but still, the things he did ended up hurting people beyond himself. It hurt me, his friends, and his family as well - not counting the people he wronged. Therefore, I decided that it would be best if I just kept myself to the side.

In the end - so far at least, it's worked. High School, even with all the drama, isn't nearly as bad as Elementary. Really, people in elementary were much more intense than what I see now. Even so, despite me now being a bit more safer, I'm still going to keep my distance, from everyone. It's too much of a bother to pretend to care, so I just gave up altogether, and am doing things my own way. Listlessly, going day-to-day. But, I know I'll have to do move forward again, someday. I'm... not sure what moving forward entails exactly. However, for certain, I want to find the answer to that before It's too late."

    General Information

    Phone/Wallet
Students admitted into the school are given a phone. From this phone their allowance and the school's electronic currency, 'credit' can be viewed. Credit can be transferred to another student relatively simply.

The phone allows for calls to other students in the school's special mobile network, allowing for communication provided you know each other's phone number. The local school network is unable to get contact with the World Wide Web, and it's be a long time goal of the tehnology club to be able to find a way to freely access the internet. Other useful apps one could expect on the phone such as one to type down notes or setting a timer are still useable.

Students are encouraged to take care of this phone. While is is astoundingly hardy, once lost, the only way to get a new one is to take it from someone else..

    The Test
The key to getting off the island.

The test is supposedly modeled after Tokyo University's entrance exam from the previous year. If you pass the test, you earn yourself a ticket off of the island, and your crimes are officially forgiven.

The only thing required to take the test is your phone. The phone model indicates what year you came to the island - any student whose phone is older than three years is allowed to take the test. The test is held bi-anually. On the first day of November, and July.

Of course, some students have been studying for years and still have yet to find any success.

    The War
While only remembered by older students, 'The War' refers to the confrontation between The Old Regime and the Current one. Historically, the 'new' people who came topside were mercilessly abused and taken advantage of by the senior students who lived in the lower levels. A band of students working together defeated the old regime in a war that was fought in the lower levels.

With the Victory of Senpai and the Thirteen Kai, the current peace and order that was once unheard of is now possible. The Butai were even able to mostly secure the first underground levels, allowing for students to begin 'colonizing' the lower tunnels that were once battlegrounds.

    Senpai
The leader of all student controlled activities within the institution. This ranges from having a monopoly on food distribution, as well as having the loyalty of enough influential and tough students so as to maintain order in the areas they patrol.

No one actually knows what Senpai looks like or who they really are, as their identity and orders go through a tight knit group of powerful students known as the Thirteen Kai. Regardless, their exploits, among the older students at the school, are legendary. Though them, and the Disciplinary Butai, Senpai is the undisputed Student Council President of the entire Institution.

    Locations

    Hisakawa Institute
A correctional facility in an undisclosed location built from the remains of what used be an military installation. Here, Juveniles whom have comitted felonies are sent to here to be reformed through the NEXT program.

At Hisakawa, the government watches over the students' daily lives from atop tall walls and towers. Brave souls go into the school's faucility to teach and provide certain required services such as basic food delivery, maintinence, and necessary medical treatment, and teach for the class, but otherwise all other aspects of the school are left up to the students in what can be called self deterministic anarchy.

The public knows little about Hiskawa. Like America's Area 51 being synonomous with Aliens and Strange government experiments, Hisakawa is known as a place where bad students are sent to be reformed, or die trying.

    Topside (Hisakawa Institute)
This refers to the top part of the school. Here are the original dormitories and buildings for classes and other school related functions. This also includes the tall walls and that surround the facility that are manned by armed Prison Guards.

While the buildings look and feel old, Senpai has been aggressively charging to keep them maintained. The Gardens topside are an achievement and testament to the creativity of some of the prisoners. For what they lack in materiel they made up with ingenious placement and meticulous care in landscaping.

Topside truly reflects the vision of what Hisakawa tries to achieve. To create something beautiful when given practically nothing but one's own ingenuity.

    The School
The school-building at Hisakawa. Going to class here is basically one's best chance at being able to leave the island.

It has basic facilities such as a library (Whose Books are considered some of the most valuable items on the island, and are guarded fiercely by the Butai) as well as a computer lab which possesses one of the only satellite internet connections.

The school is quaintly kept, and feels immediately familiar to anyone hailing from Japan. The school is one of the few places that Prison guards venture into. As they do patrol the halls to protect the teachers and staff from the inmates.

    The Underground (First Floor)
The first floor of the underground was started by military engineers many years ago as emplacements and fortifications that were never finished. When students discovered these incomplete constructions, they immediately took refuge to hide from the guards above.

Because of the "Self Determination" given to students by the guards, the underground became where students with power consolidated their resources and planned their schemes. As time whent on, tunnels further down were discovered and expanded upon, moving operations further and further away from the sight of the authorities.

After the war, the Underground was made open for new students to freely live. The Disciplinary Butai patrols this first level zelously, ensuring it enjoys about the same levels of safety as Topside.

    The Underground (Depths)
The Depths refer to the caves and tunnels that are not patrolled and watched over by the Guard or Butai. The lower levels were home to the original ruling student regimes of Hisakawa. Where they were able to do many an illegal and morally questionable thing with practically free reign. They would oft drag off newcomers from the upper levels to fuel the unspeakable things that they did down there.

The Thirteen Kai of the surface level and their Diciplinary Butai fought against the old Regime down here. Victorious, they shut down the lower levels and ousted the old Regime after defeating all their major leaders. It's rumored that the Depths still contain treasures and things of value left behind.

Regardless, the Butai discourage, very strongly, for would be treasure hunters to not venture downwards. As the Depths can also be populated with other hostile students performing illegal activities.

    The Old Submarine Base
A man-made harbor built into a cave that once helped resupply submarines operating in the theater.

Informally known as 'The Base' the Guards operate from here. Food and basic supplies for students also come in from here. Though distribution of said supplies is somehow done through the students after the supplies arrive.

Students have tried, on many occasions, to tunnel into the Base in hopes of stealing a boat for escape or to gain acess to it's fabled armory with guns and ammunition. While many attempts were planned, the few that did get executed were always met with a very disturbingly mysterious end.

This hardened location could supposedly survive if a nuclear missile hit the island.

    Factions

    Guards
Refer to adults who watch over the students of the 'school' through sniper scopes and thermal vision binoculars. They are charged with the protection of the general student population (as a whole), but more importantly, the protection of teachers and staff who venture within the walls.

With tall towers that offer a clear shot into practically any location topside, very early on, students discovered the old military dig in fortifications that lead underground. While there were attempts to stop this, the practice eventually went out of style after Guards patrolling the underground were ambushed over and over again.

The Guards operate from what was the old Hidden Submarine base, and also have acess to Several Patrol boats. They used have a search helicopter but after it ran into problems it was put into storage indefinitely.

    Thirteen Kai
A group of students who carry out Senpai's will. Their influence together is what makes the upper levels of Hisakawa Institution so comparatively calm as opposed to the Chaos going on further underground.

Among older students the Kai are remembered and revered as the Legendary Heroes who brought the peace that the upper levels of Hisakawa now enjoy. These Thirteen Kai presumably defeated the Twenty Kai and the entirety of the Butai of the old regime all on their own.

In the Realm of Hisakawa, a Kai typically refers to someone of extreme skill and influence. The Kai under Senpai are the best of the best in that reguards.

    Disciplinary Butai
These students serve under the Thirteen Kai, and protect students from being harmed in the upper levels of the school that they patrol. In peacetime, the Butai have been used to quell potential upsurpers to the common order under Senpai. During the occasions when the horrors from the lower levels try to break out topside, the Butai are the first line of defense.

For this reason, Senior Butai Members typically get assigned cushy positions topside where the most they could expect is stopping a robbery or the occasional rage fit. Butai members underground must earn their place by facing the horrors that come from below.

Despite the perils, being a Butai member is one of the best jobs that a student can attain once they reach seniority. The power of the group, the top pay possibility, as well as it's prestige is almost enough to warrant the the near 50% survival rate for newcomers.

    Tribals
Students who live outside the walls of the main institution and out in the forests of the island. Criminals among criminals. They are rumored to eat other students who happen across them.

Tribals are most dangerous in the rare instances one happens upon a group working together to survive. Different from the ousted, students from the academy, the Original Tribals are composed of students who were banished from the Institution after The War. These students, whom were once the rulers of the institution, remain highly dangerous.

Though the rifles of the towers keep them at bay, woe be to anyone who comes across a True set of Tribals. As they were rightly feared for things much more terrible than Cannibalization.

  8. "The RP where The Broken May Save and Redeem, Together"

    Forward:

    You are a felon.

Sometime in your life you were proven to have committed a serious crime. Whatever the reason may have been, you have been found guilty, and must serve due punishment for the crime that the state has found you guilty of.

Because you are a minor, however instead of getting sent to a prison, you are being sent to a special 'prison school'. This School, located on an island far out in treacherous waters is where you will spend the duration of your sentence (as a minor) participating in the NEXT Program.

The aim of this program is meant to subject you to a real world environment where you will have to manage your school life as well as forge out a living. Your job, is to remain in good behavior and to support yourself for the duration of your sentence at Hisakawa, and to grow into an active and positive student in your 'class'. In essence, you are a working student.

You are given a room, as well as a phone that gives you electric access to your electric wallet, used to purchase amenities such as food, or use of recreational areas, or even places of study like a library. It also gives you access to a 'superpower'! If you figure out how it works, you'll find yourself having a huge advantage!

Live! Learn! Mingle with your fellow students and interact! Together you'll face challenges and run into disagreements! But through perseverance and understanding will you be able to grow and graduate! If you do particularly well, you sentence may even be shortened, allowing the day after your graduation to be the day that you're once again free and ready for the outside world! The key is to have a fulfilling school life!

But, if you fail to show progress, or even worse, Regress...
Then to avoid having you become a stain upon the prison system, or even worse, society itself.
Your life will be forfeit to save resources.

    RP Intentions!

The Hisakawa RP Meta-series is meant to allow for a varied and meaningful character interactions. It also believes in the idea that the facets of our lives can sometimes be up to chance and random. But at the same time, our sentiments to that randomness is what gives everything a sincere and important meaning.

For this reason things such as how your character feels towards other characters, as well as facets of their life (in this case, the felony they committed) are decided entirely at random when you sign up. This gives you a bit of a skeleton of a character to build details around at your discretion, and lots of material to potentially act out in the IC.

Actions in the RP can also be decided on chance too. Dice rolls can be called upon when your character performs important actions! Bringing tension with the possibility that something can go one way or another!

Hisakawa has always been about challenging you to act out your character in many different and varied situations. I'd like to invite you to be a part of this long running but ever interesting 'experiment'!

Hisakawa Institution is built into a secret base built for Operation Valkyrie, the invasion of eastern China in the event of the Third World War.

      Overview: Given Information
Below is information about your character. With this, a character to fill out an detail is born! Note that the below is NOT A CHARACTER SHEET. Just the information that ties the RP's systems together.

      Felony:
This is the Crime Your Character is Canonically Convicted of. Just randomly decided based off of WIkipedia's listing of felonies. But note that this may very well implicitly decide a lot about your character!
Iris Filter: Accessed from your phone, your character's iris filter's exact purpose not immediately clear. But it tends to have some sort of correlation with the crime you committed. It reveals a 'truth' of the world when you look at things through the phone's camera.

Prosperity Level: This is how well your character is doing in terms of funding. Increase your prosperity levels to increase your character's chances of surviving and giving them access to things they want or need!
Titles: These are given out by a GM to reflect when your character does something notable. Mostly just done for fun.

      Physical Grade:
Your character's proficiency in vital physical feats, used for physical rolls such as fighting.
Intuition Grade: Your character's proficiency in vital nonphysical feats, this is used for non-physical rolls such as persuasion.
Luck: Your character's measure of general fortune. You can use this value to perform a physical or nonphysical feat. However, you cannot use luck for this purpose twice in a row. Also effects other things related to them...

First Impressions: A given list of other characters in the RP. These are a set of impressions your character has in regards to that person after a month or so of being around them. Use this as a starting point in your relations with them! Note: You must keep this updated as more characters are removed and added. Failiure to do so will lead to reduction of your prosperity, which can lead to grave consequences for your character beyond your control!

The Schools' Disciplinary Butai is the Arms and Sword of Sempai's will, and the enforcement of their rule. Ensuring peace and control in the upper levels of the Institute Complex.

      In Character Actions: Feat Rolls
Feat Rolls are player attempts at performing an action whose outcome is uncertain. Remember how characters have Grades in regards to their Physical, Intuition, and Luck characteristics? These are utilized in Feat Rolls! The simplest way to explain it is that major actions such as getting into a fight with someone, or trying to persuade someone, or even something like playing an in character game of chess, can all be associated with a Grade Characteristic of a character! That grade characteristic is used to determine the chances of success in a following dice roll.

The Grade Characteristics, and their Associated Probabilities are listed below:

      A - 50% success rate (1/2)
      B - 33% success rate (1/3)
      C - 25% success rate (1/4)
      D - 13% success rate (1/8)
S - Practically Guaranteed success rate. This is applied to NPC and GM Characters.

Note that Success Means Hitting the Number 1 when you roll.

Most of the time, these actions will fall into either the Physical or Nonphysical category. Which directly correspond to the Physical and Intuition Grades respectively. Additionally, the Luck grade is a wildcard of sorts. It's value can be used in place of Physical or Intuition roll. So a lucky character who is otherwise unlikely to do well in a situation can try to use Luck to improve their chances. So Luck can replace a grade stat. But not twice in a row. (you must do a roll normally the next time).

When do I Perform a Roll?

Lets give you an IC situation:
The school menace has your best friend by the neck and is holding them in the air. Oh no! That person is now walking to the window! Threatening to lob them out the window! Something has to be done or else your friend will get seriously hurt, or even worse!

      The Critical Requirement

How would you go about resolving this situation? Suppose you decide that you're going to try to stop this person by taking hold of them and stopping them - or maybe you're going to land a clean strike to their head to knock them out cold. Notice something? Aside from the fact that it's obvious this falls under the Physical category of Feat Roll there is also something more important. There is an obvious action performed and intended outcome of that action. This is a critical requirement for a Feat Roll as it allows the GM or Player Character to know what kind of outcome to write. Of course, once you have made all that clear in your post, you post your post, then 'roll a dice' on that new post and let the statistics do their work! Remember to make that dice roll based on the character's respective Grade Category!

      Think of the Possibilities!

But you know... just knocking that person out is sort of boring. Suppose you actually listened to what was going on. The bully is mad because they believe your best friend hurt the kitty cat that lives out by the library and he's out for blood! Honestly, you have no idea who hurt it but you know it's not your friend! It's obvious that someone is trying to set your friend up, and beating up that bully will only make things worse! What if you tried to persuade them that it wasn't your friend? What if you convinced the bully that the cat must've just gotten itself hurt, or better yet, if that narcissistic pretty boy the next class over did it? If you were successful in that kind of roll, what kind of interesting things would happen then? Be sure to consider the potential results or backlash of whatever action you take. As the world will no doubt be affected by it.

      Be Reasonable!

What if you used your persuasion power to convince the bully to jump out of the window themselves instead? No that's not going to happen. Make sure your action makes sense in context. The GM reserves the right to negate an attempt deemed illegal or inappropriate.

      Be Responsible!

Fudge it, I'm just going to persuade them but not roll! And then the GM messages you to make a roll for persuasion. Again, the GM reserves the right to request the player to make a Feat roll if the action they're attempting is deemed to need one. Failure to comply can lead to the GM having your IC posts ignored.

You could theoretically get out of rolling a Feat Roll by having your character but that'd be your character pretty much doing nothing, it's all about that initiative!

      What is Initiative?

Initiative in the name of a rule saying "you cannot try to "counter a successful roll with a new roll of your own." Meaning if someone fights you, and they are successful, then the fight is already decided. You can roll an attempt to escape, but the fact that you lost is set in stone at that point. For that reason, it can be said that the rp rewards pro-activeness as opposed to passiveness!

In Summary the Important Things to Note of Feat Rolls

      • A Feat Roll Should Be Done When Appropriate.
      • Luck can replace a Grade Stat, but not twice in a row.
      • The Attempted Feat should make sense In context.
      • You can only perform a Feat using each Grade Stat once per in character day.

Tribals are composed of students whom were ousted out of the academy, and were able to survive. A student who is able to prove themselves capable are saved from being turned into a meal.

      In Character Actions: Iris Filter
Though the Adults call it a Superpower, the Camera App on Students' assigned phones is informally known as the Iris Filter among everyone else. By looking at the world through their phone's camera, a 'Truth' is revealed. The only problem is that the meanings of what they see isn't immediately clear. But if you figure it out, you'll have a very powerful query tool!

      Using Your Iris Filter

The Iris Filter is handled by the GM. When using it, one needs to be aware of where they are and the characters present in a scene. To initiate the Iris filter, your most recent post must clearly mention that you had your phone out. Then, in the Discord, you ask the GM in a 'Private Message' to request an Iris Check, along with giving the location your character was at, at the time. It would look like:

Iris Check Request - My Character's Name
[Hisakawa Institute, Second Year Building, Third Floor Dressing Room]

Please use this format, as it helps make the GM's life a little easier!

After the request has been made, the GM will confirm the request. The players of characters that were in that scene will receive a message much like this.

      Iris Check Inquiry
[Hisakawa Institute, Second Year Building, Third Floor Dressing Room]
(Who is the Person You Love?)

The Iris Filter feature is a reason why joining the discord server is a bit of a requirement. Please remember to answer the inquiries! The first couple of times you fail to return an inquiry within a day, it will presume the character making the query couldn't make out what they saw of your character causing an error. But if the GM finds that you are purposefully avoiding queries or too inactive, then the GM will message you back with what your character's answer was. This could be really bad if the GM randomly decided who your character was in love with! Worse of all, it would be treated as canon thereafter.

Finally, once all inquiries are returned, the GM sends the compiled results to the person who made the request. It is given as an explanation of what their character saw through their phone and will be up to them to decipher.

What if I want to be sneaky?

You can't. At the start your character is assumed to have no idea how their Iris Filter works, so it's presumed that taking sneak shots with other people is wholly useless to them. But, once they figure out how their Iris works, and if you can correctly explain back to me (the gm) how their iris works, then certain possibilities open up...

As is stands, the Iris Filter from my standpoint is a bit of a gimmick for the RP. But, if everyone makes use of it, and don't make it a headache for me to manage, then we may see it getting expanded upon.

How much can I use it?

You might also notice that Handling Iris Filter queries is a bit of work. So, I do reserve the right to deny Iris Filters by returning an Error 404 to a query request. What is basically means is I can't handle the amount of requests being made please try later. At most I can expect to only be able to handle 1 or 2 Iris queries at a time until I find a better system to do it, or just get better at it.

In Summary, the important things to note about Iris Filters:
      • Your character will have to decipher what their Iris Filter shows on their own.
      • Be sure to use proper format when requesting an Iris Query answer Iris Queries in a timely manner. Or face potentially uncomfortable canon decisions.
      • Ehb can't handle too many Iris Queries at once and no one wants to see too many queries coming in. So please be mindful of that!

Students who are known to posses the highest qualities in things such as physical prowess or intellect are known as Rank S students. Before the start of the store thirteen of these students hold power in the school and are ranked accordingly. They're informally known as the Thirteen Kai.

      Character Progression: Prosperity

This is all about how well off your character is within the setting. First let's talk about how Prosperity works from the in Canon perspective.

Your character starts the story out with a Phone with it's Superpower and the Electric Wallet with a basic starting amount of money. They also have a basic room with a bed, landline phone, water, and electricity. In order to go beyond these basics, and to also have money to buy food rather than forage for it, they'll canonically have to get a job within the institute. Along with this they'll also have to keep up with their schooling as well.

However, posting about your character working their job or studying is counter intuitive to what the RP wants to do. So the measure of how well your character is doing - known as their Prosperity - is measured in one simple way. How much you post.

It's so simple that it can be explained in this paragraph:

If you manage to Match near the same Amount of Posts the GM Made in a Month, then your prosperity level will go up.
If you are noticeable lower than that amount, then your prosperity will drop. If your prosperity falls to Zero, then canonically your character was unable to sustain themselves, and are removed from the RP.

So I can post moar then?
Yes! You can post more than the Gm and potentially have your Prosperity go up by two levels as opposed to one. But no more than that. Beware though, I still expect those posts to be of good quality. If you're making one off - two sentence replies then you will get a message from me that you will not want to get.

      Can I make up Posts?

You can gain up to 2 prosperity increases per month. There is no such thing as 'making up lost points'.

Can we also do Collaboration (Collab) posts?

Yes. In fact, when it a situation where you're having a heated discussion or involved scene with one or two others it's encouraged to do a collab post. While I won't disclose the amount, Collab posts do contribute a good amount to helping your prosperity go up. It can also be used to help players who are lagging in post count too. Note that I do frown upon people trying to do a collab with GM characters unless it's story related/reasonable to do so.

Finally, remember that keeping track of your post counts for the month is your own responsibility. Please do not ask me to go and count them for you.

Ultimately Prosperity Serves as the Measure of Progression in the RP. Moving up each prosperity level in the early stages unlocks certain features as well as mark upcoming story events. For example, 'Prosperity' at a certain level can be used to improve your characters Stat Grade in order to increase your chances of success in Feat Rolls. Within canon, it can also have an effect on what sort of things can potentially happen to your character, and serve as a basis for potential plot. Your post count kind of represents how hard your character is working behind those story scenes.

More details on how to 'Spend' Prosperity will be made available later on when it becomes available.

Sempai is the number one patriarch at Hisakawa. Having toppled the previous student regime that ruled the institution. Their true identity is unknown to all those except those closest to them.

      Character Progression: Character Titles
As the RP progresses and as your character grows and does various things, they may earn Titles that help mark their achievements. Titles are awarded by the GM and kept track of by the GM as well, so there isn't any real need to worry about having to edit your character sheet with them. To view your titles, simply look at the Start Menu channel on the Rp's Discord.

As a reward for people who stick with RP's I've ran, characters can also earn (Costume) titles which gives them a 'different outfit' that they have access too. Most notably, people who follow me through RP's I run gain access to Costume Titles that let their character's cosplay as their old characters. Again, it's mostly just for fun and blingy points!

By default, characters are equipped with the most recent story title they've earned. You can request to 'equip' a different title by talking with the GM.

Curses are typically a type of title most often doled out by Kuu, the GM character fortune teller. A curse forces a particularly unfortunate occurrence to occur each in character day to the affected character. A curse can be removed... at a price.

The Tech Club at School develops all sorts of apps and unique uses for assigned phones. Their pride and joy is a bunch of such phones tied together in order to function as a high end gaming computer.

Character Progression: Preparing for Second Cour!
I'll be straightforward and say this: The Philosophy of this RP's story planning is to assume everyone else is just passively an NPC in the background. Meaning, I expect people to drop, but that won't hurt the Rp's ability to continue since the main players (GM Characters) are still active. The aim of this thought process is to make the RP more resilient.

If you want to get the most out of the RP. Just participate. Post and get involved, and I'll start investing in increasing your character's importance in the plot. It's not just your character's relation to GM characters but also to the other players as well. Go out an interact! If you want to stick to being passive and commenting in the background that is totally okay too as long as you still post as regularly. But don't be surprised if it seems like I treat you as a background character due to acting like a background character.

But most importantly, the one takeaway is that the tone of this part of NEXT's story is of Introducing everyone as well as exploring the facets of this strange and peculiar setting. Don't be afraid! If you're uncomfortable just post and see what happens next! The True Story that Next wishes to tell can wait. For now, try to piece together a fun and fulfilling school life!

But, just to keep you excited, in VN style, Second Cour pulls back time into the RP to a certain point. At that point, a special detail that's omitted from the first run of the story is brought to light, changing things dramatically. The hope is that the things learned from the first run will help the cast find a true happy end.

But, always remember this very, very, well:

      happy endings are never guaranteed.

Character Signup: A Back and Fourth Process!

Signing up for next requires a bit of back and fourth with the GM. There are three steps that must be followed in order to be successfully signed up. Please note that this is all written in order to make the 'complicated' sign up process simple if you just read and follow through this.

Note, that I do reserve the right to deny applications for any reason.
The easiest way to having your application denied is by clearly showing me that you didn't try reading any of this.

So, with that out of the way:

    • Step 1: Name and Roll!
This Initial Post decides some basic important information about your character. You will also perform a set of four dice rolls for your character. These dice rolls will decide your characters 3 Grade Stats, as well as determine the Crime they committed. How this is determined is S.E.C.R.E.T.

The dice roll is with a die of 24 faces. Roll it 4 times!

    • Step 2: Get PM, Join The Discord, and Return Finished Character Sheet!

Once Ehb has finished determining your given data. They'll send you back your character's Given information. With this, you'll know what Crime they did, as well as their General Qualities. With this information, build your character!

Below is the full character sheet skeleton. DO NOTE! Your FULL CHARACTER SHEET IS SOMETHING THAT ONLY YOU AND THE GM CAN SEE IN FULL. Things such as your character's crime and other information filled in here are supposed be kept secret to the others.

To make that simple simple, each item in the Character Sheet has 2 Colors. Items titled in BOLD WHITE Is public information that will be posted to your final character sheet to the Character Listing. Items titled in BOLD GREY is classified information to be kept between the GM and Player. Things such as your character's crime can end up being revealed however, in ways beyond your character just telling it through the course of the RP.

      Full Character Character Sheet:

      Self Introduction:
This self introduction is a bit of a monologue done in character that draws a bit of a baseline of what your character is as a person. This little writing bit seems to be notoriously hard for some people, so please be sure to have a clear image of who your character is before taking a shot at this! Maybe save this for last even! As for the 'topic' of this monologue: "What is it that Gives A Person Value?"

      Starting Character Grades

Physical Grade: Character's Physical Capacity and Skill at the start

This gives you an idea of how to act when you first meet, but whether you follow it or try to evolve the relationship into something else is totally up to you! Note that first impressions are mutual meaning if you have a good impression on someone, they have a good impression of you! Must be given in your character's own words, no copying the default description, and it is the ONLY item in your public character sheet you need to keep updated!

For Reference: The First Impression Pool:

      Show Spoiler

For reference, first impressions can be divided into two broad categories. Positive, and Negative. Below is the pool for first impressions that will be rolled. You will have impressions of every player character in the RP, and you will be responsible of detailing out your impressions of other characters and keeping them updated as they change or as new characters are added.

PLEASE REMEMBER THAT THE GM ROLLS FIRST IMPRESSIONS FOR YOU.

If you were in the previous Hisakawa, you might notice that the pool is much more simplified this time around. This is done on purpose, to challenge you to really have your character fill in the details of each impression. Also, because everyone's only known each other for about of month in the story.

      Positive Impressions:

      • Strongly Positive
      • Positive
      • Weakly Positive

      Negative Impressions

      • Weakly Negative
      • Negative
      • Strongly Negative

      (Optional) Extra Info Section:

This is extra information that's optional.
Character Theme: Your character's Musical Theme for those Important Scenes.
Character Voice: Your character's voice actor. Giving people a bit of a better idea of how they sound.

      PLAN

Standing for "Please Let me Advance Notice!" is a way to show me that you have an intention to see your character grow and develop in the RP. These are a couple of questions worth at least considering When making your character, and thinking about how they'll play through their life in the RP. This section is also entirely optional but I do hope you at least think about it. If you do choose to fill this section out, it helps me have an idea as to how you want your character to be handled when they start becoming more involved.

Character Storyline Theme: This can be a simple one liner or it can be an epic that explains things in depth. What is your character about? Are they about "Friends are more Important Than Anything?" or "The Only Person You Can Ever Trust is Yourself?". Answer this and you'll find that parts of the story will try to ask these questions.

Key Flaw: Something your character has to overcome. Do they have no value for human life? Are they haunted by the crime they committed? The key to what will bring your character salvation lies in this key flaw. Alternatively, it's the trait that they stayed true to until the bitter end.

Again, this section is optional. But please consider the possibility that even having an idea about these qualities towards your character will give them and yourself a drive to post enthusiastically!

    • Step 3: Post Public Character Sheet into the OOC!
After making any requested edits, Ehb OK's Your Character Sheet, you will be notified by PM. You will be given your character's Eye Cutout (used to further help identify them in posts), their First Title, as well as be instructed to post your Public Character Sheet in the OOC Thread. Once posted, you're good to go! Go fourth to enjoy a fulfilling school life!

Note that in order to keep track of signups, I will leave the signup PM thread after I OK your character. Your character's personal information will be kept on file, however. If it is changed, please let me know. Further communication should be done through the Discord, or a New Iwaku PM thread.

Remember, your Public Character Sheet has some information from the Full Character Sheet Omitted. An example Public Character Sheet Would Look Like This:

      Kagami

"Anything Can Become Right If You Can Be Convinced It Is."
      Character Color: Dark Cyan

      Given Name:
      Kagami
      Age: 17
      Date of Birth: 1, October
      Height: 149cm

      Likes:
Organization - Orderliness ensures that everything goes off with a minimal chance of some unknown causing a problem. Kagami likes minimizing problems.

Discipline - Behavior and Organization go hand in hand. They have a very particular morning routine that sees them do things by the minute. They accomplish more in one morning than most people do in an entire day.

Loyalty - Viewing the classroom as their own organization, unwavering belief is a must. Anyone trying to play lone wolf is ultimately put in line or removed from the equation entirely.

War Movies - The best ones are the old ones with the stock sound effects and cheesy acting. Kagami seems to find them to be quite amusing.

      Dislikes:
Ambiguity - Ambiguity means you're hiding something. The fact that you're hiding something mean's you're probably up to no good. If you're up to no good, then you will reveal what you are hiding before or after the interrogation.

Sweets - Does not sit well with their stomach. Sweets makes them feel float and unfocused. Might as well give them a pint of alcohol.

Bone-In Fish - Those tricky bones! Kagami once got a bone stuck in their throat for a week. They've avoided bone-in fish like the plague ever since.

Taller People - Their shortness and appearance makes people wonder. Kagami's been asked out by more tough looking people looking for a 'little princess' to protect more times than they'd care to remember.

      Hobbies:
Black Marketeering - Kagami knows of and actively participates in the school's black market. Though no one knows for sure how much they're making off of it. Kagami's done a good job hiding it.

Business Education - Seeming like the teacher's pet during this class. Kagami talks at length about the in-and outs of running a business that even the teacher gets tired of it.

      Physical Training
      - Desiring to train to become muscular enough to look tougher. They've trained every morning in the same routine since they arrived at Hisakawa.

Speech and Debate - Butts into people's arguments at their own leisure. They've ended heated exchanges on words alone.

      Fears:
Fish Bones - "That bone was stuck for an entire week! Do you know how agonizing that was?!"

Stronger People - If Kagami's words fail them, there's little else they could do on their own. They are very aware of this fact.

Ants - Had the misfortune to have actually had ants in their pants. Is absolutely aghast at the fact that ants exist on this island out in the middle of nowhere.

      Self Introduction:

"Loyalty is the most important trait anyone could ever hope for. If there was a single trait that was more important than anything else, worthy of being placed upon a pedestal, then I would choose loyalty every time. There is simply no contest. That is simply because many good traits are birthed from this single feature. Through it does many other positives come to light about a person, no matter who they are.

In a world where trust is the rarest commodity, people are naturally inclined to be distrustful of one another. Doubts arise between people, and what is where complications do arise. For example, when a person is in trouble the hope is that someone would help. But conflicts of interest come up for those with the power to do so. Can I do It? Is it worth it? Some may even wonder if it's a Trap. The place that I came from, thinking along those lines was entirely normal. But, with Loyalty, the answer becomes a definite Yes every time.

Everyone wants to have it. An unquestionable companion. Maybe that's the reason why Dogs are so prevalent in filling that desire. But an animal who depends upon you for food, whose species has developed into an instrument of amusement and companionship is a far cry of the productive and symbiotic companionship that Man and Beast served for one another for milennia. It was through that bond that the two became the most prevalent and dominant creatures in the world. The canine has most certainly earned it's place inhabiting a comfortable spot of being a pet. But, that bond is no longer as necessary or prevalent in a world where hunting or facing wild animals is no longer necessary.

In this day in age the hardest form of Loyalty to come by is that which exists between two people. That sort of Loyalty is even more important. The capacity of what a person can do is limited by the fact that it is one person. Any great endeavor requires effort beyond that, and any endeavor of that magnitude requires a temperament to see it through to the end. The line of work I once did was something that was easy to get disheartened with. If you didn't believe in what you were doing it was easy to retire and waste all of that effort. For that reason, I valued the people who were able to see things through, and I rewarded their Loyalty with mine own. From those relationships, many productive and successful things were born.

Loyalty truly trumps every other trait one could have. Through it, people become stronger. The Loyalty of a person is harder but much more necessary and rewarding in our current world. Finally, the birth of the most constructive, ambitious, and successful endeavors is secured through it; and I search for that trait in every person I meet."

      Starting Character Grades
      Physical Grade: C
      Intuition Grade: S
      Luck Grade: B

      First Impressions:
      Betty Lou / Weakly Positive
"What kind of name is Betty Lou?"

      Jerry Stooge / Strongly Negative
"The Stooge in this Idiot's Name is Quite Fitting."

      Final Things to Note!

Remember that the only thing that you'll need to edit in your Public Character Post is your First Impressions, adding in new character's. Not keeping your Impressions updated can block you off from getting a prosperity increase that month.

As for everything else, including Character titles and changes in grade, those items are kept track of in the Discord by the GM. Located in a special character listing.
