Clover was born in the forests surrounding Foxby, where he was raised by his mother with his father having never been in the picture. She was a charming woman with particular knowledge of the outside world as a result of being a former member of SAP who ran off back to the forests. She passed on much of her knowledge to her son, who readily soaked it up. Although the two avoided most people, his mother was friends with a lovely magi couple. For a time, Clover and his mother were happy.

Unfortunately, that changed when Clover’s mother got cancer. She refused to seek treatment and died from her sickness when Clover was around ten. Clover would’ve been happy to continue his life in the forest on his own, however, when he next visited the magi couple they would not stand for it and had him taken to an orphanage far from Foxby. His experience at the orphanage was not a pleasant one, being shunned by many of the other children and mistreated by the staff. He never complained, however, and was a model child until he ran away at the age of fifteen. He struggled to find work but did what little he could, often working menial jobs or else selling himself to stay alive.

At twenty, Clover found a small noble household in search of a long-term servant, despite his chances being minimal, he applied. He primarily got the job because the lord was attracted to him. Clover proved to be an efficient worker and dedicated servant, despite the lord’s mistreatment and abuse of him. However, after four years, the lord grew tired of him and sent him off. He did Clover the courtesy of giving him a glowing recommendation, however, and the naga was able to find employment at the estate of Princess Violetta Blacke.

HISTORY
Hector is the son of Orion Blacke and his temporary lover, Countess Amelia Penrose. In addition to his numerous half-siblings through the King, Hector has four older siblings courtesy of his mother's marriage. A marriage which ended with the death of her husband, who had been killed during the war. She informed the King of the birth of his son but to her dismay, nothing came of it. She expected something and the lack of interest left her somewhat sour.

Growing up, Hector's relationship with his mother was tenuous — often switching between adoration and frustration, and she placed a lot of pressure on him to be impressive in a bid to earn his father's attention. She imprinted these values onto her son who was equally determined to earn his father's attention, as well as to impress his mother. Unfortunately, Hector was hardly a talented child and he had to work twice as hard to be as good as anyone else. But that didn't stop him and he rose to the occasion, dedicating long hours to studying and swordplay. The latter of which he excelled in far more, which led him to pursue a military career. That and the belief that it was the best way to impress his father.

Despite his efforts, Hector hasn't done anything spectacular enough to be more than mildly acknowledged by his father.

HISTORY
Nasir was born just before the start of the war, and he remembers very little of life before it. His family was tight-knit and quick to join in the conflict when it broke out. Nasir was no exception, but their involvement cost them dearly. Both of Nasir’s older brothers and his father were killed in the war, while both Nasir and his mother were taken prisoner. It was after the deaths of his two brothers that Nasir and the remainder of his family moved to North America, where they continued their participation in the war. And it was there where Nasir spent over a year as a prisoner, where he was horribly mistreated at the hands of his captors, which left him with permanent scars and injuries. Despite that, Nasir remained strong. His hatred grew and he was determined to escape. After several failed attempts he final made it away one night. His mother was not so lucky, and she remained a prisoner following the war. Nasir offered himself into contract to free her.

Shortly thereafter, Nasir met Magdalene, a fae servant. Despite their different species the two quickly became smitten with one another and it was not long before they were in love. Unfortunately, things took a turn for the worse when they were attacked one night. They both suffered at the hands of their attackers, but while Nasir was able to largely recover, Magdalene was unable. When the couple was joined by their son it proved too much, and she died.

Nasir was grief-stricken and found his only reason to keep going in his son. Although his grief continues to haunt him, time has allowed him a greater ability to move on.

HISTORY
Azriel was born just before the war broke out. He was the younger of two children, with an older sister. Although small, the Mirsa family was far from insignificant, holding both status and riches. In particular, they provided a great deal of moral and spiritual support to their communities. And support they did, as his parents did their best to avoid any direct conflict throughout the war. However, shortly into the war their daughter was killed in an attack, leaving the family marred in grief.

Despite being raised during the war, Azriel was raised well. He was afforded an excellent education and proved himself a capable student. Even as a boy, he was ambitious with a sharp tongue. He was gregarious, too, which earned him many friends, including friends of different statuses and species, although as they aged many of them joined in the war.

While his parents being content to wait out the war to the best of their abilities, Azriel was not. He left behind his small village to go support the war efforts more directly, where he served as a military advisor and stealth operative. In the last few years of the war, he learned his parents defected to the vampires, and they convinced several other families to come with them. This caused rift between Azriel and his parents, but eventually he followed them.

After the war, the Mirsa family served the crown diligently and worked hard to help pacify and improve relationships with disgruntled fae. They prospered for their decisions, but many saw them as traitors and did not accept their help. Azriel did find a close ally in the form of Lubo, a former friend from the war. However, as they continued to work together, Lubo expressed greater and greater anti-Royalist sentiments.

Upon his father’s death, Azriel was quick to pledge his continued loyalty to the King, and as a sign of devotion he outed Lubo’s for the small resistance he had formed, which including a number of other fae.

HISTORY
The ancient Harcourt family was both proud and powerful, with a large domain. In the war, the family fought hard against the other species. As the war ended, the head of the household proclaimed he would rather die than submit, and die he did when they came to squash the rebellion out of him. His wife followed soon after, killing herself to avoid living under vampire rule. Their son, however, and the new head of the family did not share the sentiment. He was quick to pledge fealty to Cervia — an anathema to their house. This resulted in a civil conflict between the branches of the household. It grew violent and many were arrested, some cadet lines were snuffed out entirely. But due to his choice the Harcourt legacy carried on.

It was during that internal chaos that Isaac was born. Despite being the younger of two children, and the second son, a great amount of expectation and responsibility was placed on his shoulders. Expectations he admirably met, as both a talented and precocious child. However, Isaac was swept into his family legacy and found himself gravitating toward the tales of his grandparents which resulted in a strained relationship with his parents — especially his father, who he viewed as cowardly.

Despite his overall distaste for the decisions of his parents, Isaac did not hesitate to perform the duties required of him, and he proved a source of pride for his parents in his talents, especially for his magic abilities. At their urging, Isaac pursued a military career, where he excelled, eventually gaining enough attention to be one of the first magi offered a position in the Knights of Ascelin.

Neville was an overly attached child who clung to his parents and older sister whenever possible. However, as he grew older, he started to resent how clingy he was, which didn't help his attachment issues and only made him into a bit of a brat. Another defining feature of his childhood was his inability to stick to an interest. Every few months, he'd lose interest in a hobby with which he was previously obsessed. A major exception to this was his interest in plants, which he developed at a young age. When he was of age, he snagged himself a job at a nursery while working toward a degree in environmental science.
