" My friend, you would not tell with such high zest
To children ardent for some desperate glory,
The old Lie: Dulce et decorum est
Pro patria mori."
- Quote from Pre-Brink poet, Wilfred Owen

It's still hard to believe that despite recovering from a Grecian disaster worthy of fear and reverence, a disaster that shook apart continents and rendered our planet asunder, despite learning from our past's mistakes, despite knowing the full-well consequences of these actions, that we as a species still participate in war.

War. Conflict. It's all that you see nowadays. Alien creatures of vast, majestic power roam the very lands that we once called our home. I'd like to think that conflict is embedded in our genes. It's our very flaw. We repulse the very idea of peace. We love war. The same cycle. Over and over again in history. Don't tell me it's a lie. You can't lie about the past.

And it's the same now. Conflict everywhere. People sate their inner blood-thrist by supporting the Pokemon League, cock-fighting, forcing animals to fight against one another for entertainment. Leaders of our society, no, not the Kanto Provincial Government or the parliament. I mean, the Champion, the Elite Four. Civilians these days respect trial through combat, power. What is a politician to a crowd-favourite, a trainer who can control multiple dragons. The League is the government. Our government literally runs on blood-sport.

The year is 1462 N.B. Four years and running into the bloody conflict that is the war between Kanto and Johto, the current powerhouses of this new era. Each side doesn't seem to waver nor tire. Yet, it is obvious that the foundations that once laid upon our fresh-grass fields are now composed more of our people rather than flowers.

When will the bloodshed stop? What will it take? Until we realise all around us lays bodies. Until we look at the casualty toll and realise the sole, intrinsic value of one human life. Until one nation is crushed underneath the heel of another. One thing is for certain....

It's not going to stop soon.

Dulce Et Decorum Est takes place in a hyper-realistic Pokemon AU that I've created by myself over the few past years. You are a member of the Kantonese Provincial Army, newly drafted into a platoon with other new recruits, and taking the fight against those fucking, imperialist, Johtonese scum or at least, that's what the recruitment posters say. You are merely one of the thousands to be thrown into the meat-grinder of weaponized supernatural creatures and mechanized warfare.

Intricacies of the Setting
1. The Brink, known collioqiually as the Terra-Divide or the Shattering, was a event that is recorded in this world's history book to be the sole cause of Pokemon existing on this world in the first place. The Earth was rendered virtually irrecognisable from its former self, the main proponent of this being the Legendaries.

2. The League is a extremely powerful entertainment syndicate in this universe.

3. Most of the canon regions are the remnants of former real-life countries. Kanto is the remnant of South America. Unova is the remnant of North America. Kalos is the remnants of Europe. And so on.

4. Pokemon in this universe do not have access to moves. They merely act as animals and have abilities unique to them. So, you will not have Raichu performing an Earthquake or some crap like that.

5. Pokemon in this universe are dangerously hostile animals that require giant walls to be kept out and regular cullings of their populations so that cities aren't overrun by them. Most species are extremely dangerous to handle and train and training these dangerous species are considered counter-productive to your lifespan.

For now, this is merely a interest check. I haven't decided the limit of the group, yet.

Requirements for people who want to join this RP is to....
1. Be literate. I expect a good amount of literacy.
2. No god-modding.
3. No NFSW, holy shit, tentacle hentai, pornography.
4. Have fun.

If you have read this interest check correctly, please ask a question. This is also acting as a FAQ thread. Please don't say that you're just interested.

And with that....

Peace out- Borkasu Lazer

This looks pretty good.

Let's give this a test-interest.

What are the limits on types of Pokemon allowed?

Obviously, no legendaries, since they're considered forces of nature in this universe and the fact that some of them don't even exist in this world anymore.

Aside from that, you can have literally any Pokemon as long as you can justify it. Keep in mind that there's a few things with certain types.

- Using Ghosts drain your soul.
- Fairies are malicious, little psychopaths and are based on Irish Folklore about the fae.
- Dragons are extremely blood-thirsty and violent.

And so on. And so on. The higher tier pokemon you use, the more likely that you're a higher rank in the military.

Are there exceptions to these rules? For Ghosts, yeah, there's definitely no arguing for exceptions to this rule, since the trait is physiology-based and not personality-based(which could for good character arcs)

But how about, let's say, I raise an Eevee well into Sylveon. Will it maintain its personality or will it become a psychopath?

Yes, there are some exceptions to the dragons. There exists genetic engineering in this universe, led by Chimera Industries, the leading company. One of their programs is to domesticate dragons. Namely, because it increases revenue in the trainer market and also demand for more powerful mon in the military.

So far, their models have a 75% success rate and still belie the risk of chomping your guts out at the slightest hint of pain. I am going to point this out because I'm sure it will come out but Charizard, even though the species possesses facsimiles to dragons, is not classified in this universe as a dragon type. It's classified as a Fire/Flying Type and lacks the ' respond to violence with violence' that is a genetic hallmark of the dragon species.

There are no exceptions to the rules for ghosts. There is a cost to using a freaky demon from hell as your personal vanguard and that price comes in the form of your soul. There exists tiers of ghosts. The lower echelons of the ghost world such as Gastlys or Shuppets will have a negligible drain on your soul and it's like smoking a cigar. The higher echelons, though, will reduce your lifespan to the point where you could be mistaken with a person who has Down's Syndrome.

Likewise, there are no exceptions for fairies as well. And to answer your question, yes, if your Eevee evolves into a Sylveon, it will develop a disposition towards freakishly charming humans and then, graphically murdering your ass off. No amount of training can override this base instinct. Keep in mind that Fairies are inherently deceptive creatures and if you have kept your Fairy type as long around as it has, it's because you are too clever for it to kill you or you're just as insane as it.

An added question - if a mon loses its Fairy typing (A noteworthy example right off the bat would be the evolution from Kirlia to Gallade), what would happen to the mentioned Fairy traits?

The Fairy Traits would be removed from the species.

Hello, to Uncle Legens Legentis and Crow, could you please confirm whether I should add you to the group list or not?

This sounds amazingly thought out and I would love to join this rp. I do wonder with organizations like Chimera, are there any fully domesticated Pokemon such as Froufrou, Eevee or Skitty. Traditionally cute Pokemon that are in high demand for the civilian population?

Yes, go ahead.

Also, I presume that evolution will be a slow, regulated process, much like regular growth?

I have a fair deal of suggestions and questions, especially since I'm planning to start with a male Ralts/Kirlia and possibly something along the lines of a Snorunt and Cubone.

I wonder where Froslass and Alola-wak lie in the Echelon scale.

Yes. There exists a thriving beauty paegent in this universe and about every parellel to every real-life pet competition that exist. Yes, Chimera operates in every sector possible. Some of their products include....

Domestic sector? Carrier Pidgies and Pidoves along with domesticated Skitties and Eevees as you see above.

Industrial Sector? Customised Magmortars and Macargoes for steel-making, Onixs for excavation and so forth.

Agriculture? Breeding of Miltank's that have more meat and produce more milk along with Excadrills to till the soil more efficiently than any man-made machinery.

Military Sector? Gyaradoses that have special-growth programs to increase the rate at which it takes for a Magikarp to full evolve into one of those dragon-snakes.

Energy? Voltorbs, Electrodes and Magnemites.

Pokemon in this universe have a high rate of adapting to outside-stimuli and can rapidly mutate and evolve traits in a single generation rather than multiple generations than most of Earth's lifeforms. This, combined with their supernatural powers, means that Pokemon supplant and are a essential part of making human society function within this universe.

Yes, no instantaneous metamorphosis except for a few select ones in this universe. Magikarps are one of the mon in this universe who break that rule over their backs.

You can definitely add me to the group list.

Are there still some Pokemon in-universe undiscovered?

I do have this idea of my character accidentally discovering Gallade after daily injections of 'Dawn Stone Serum' on his Ralts, and later, Kirlia, as he finds that it suppresses the murderous traits of a Fairy-type to some extent, but for some reason it only works on the Ralts line.

Are there still some Pokemon in-universe undiscovered?
Yes. Technically, my canon is that every new generation is a nation that has been kept off from the other nations due to lack of access or something. They come into canon when they have first contact with the other nations in this world.

There are still some pokemon still out there, brewing in the deepest and most darkest of the Dark Continents.

The truth is that the canon Pokedex is only a small fraction of the potential species that come to Earth.

Examples of Pokemon in-universe that haven't been uncovered.

- Unown
- Shaymin
Etc.

And yes, I will allow you to do that with your character.
