Vaughn Ennis lived close to school.

Close enough that unlike most other students who either took the bus, were driven by parents, or drove themselves to school, the mild-mannered boy actually rode a bike. When asked why, he'd always answer that it was cheaper that way, plus it was a good way to stay in shape. Not that he really had that much of a shape to begin with, admittedly. He was a somewhat scrawny boy, his arms almost comparable to noodles, and he even wore glasses to boot, almost taking on the appearance of a stereotypical "nerd" type of person if not for his modestly tall height of 5'9 and his mysteriously clean complexion, face practically free of any sort of blemishes, though at the cost of possessing something of a babyface.

On this day like any other, now that classes were out and students were eagerly setting to leave, Vaughn did as he usually did, sitting outside on his bike and waiting for a certain dear friend to show up so they'd be able to walk home together. It was like tradition; he simply had to do it every day. Never mind how the currently cold season was freezing his ears off, especially with its chilling winds, or the distractingly loud crowd, quite excited for the coming Winter Break. Still, it was of little consequence in the long run. Vaughn was happy to wait for her, come what may. This sort of tradition hadn't gone unnoticed by a few of the students, especially those that had known Vaughn since middle school or so, as he'd been keeping to that sort of tradition for that long, and of course, as people did, people talked. Who would ever think that of all people, she would be close friends with someone like reliably plain, normal Vaughn Ennis?

Of course, Vaughn didn't mind that people talked. People could think what they wanted about the two of them, but the undeniable truth indeed was that he was close friends with her. And Vaughn wasn't about to feel embarrassed about whom he chose to spend his time with. And he was sure she felt the same if she kept on letting him be with her as well.

Diana Virius, a girl that often got a poor opinion from the public eye, a girl that would be described as a street thug, troublemaker, a kid without a future. Although she didn't care about any of that nonsense, as long as she held her head high and had her friend at her side she didn't care in the slightest. Diana is a comfortable height of 5'5 with a face that almost looked cute if you could get past the permanent glare that rested on her features and the occasional band-aid that decorated her face.

Diana gritted her teeth as the Dean had gone off on his ramble, how she had to get her act together or she would be getting nowhere with life and end up a dropout. School was the last thing on her mind while she knew her friend was patiently waiting outside for her, as loyal as a dog. A trait she both admired and despised. The second the opportunity showed itself Diana dashed out the office, easily ignoring the angry yelling of the teacher. She may have been failing P.E., but she was athletic and had made it out of the school in 2 minutes.

"Vaugh!" She called out loudly, announcing her arrival with a bit of an aggressive wave. She could see from the entrance the boy was already freezing his butt off, and not wanting to keep him waiting any longer tried to jog towards him, but promptly realized this was a terrible idea with the patches of ice around the school. With a yelp, she fell butt first into the snow. No one saw that. She tried to convince herself as she hopped back onto her feet and approached her friend in a more cautious manner. As soon as she had gotten within reach she grabbed his bike to ensure some balance. "I think you should be careful when riding home."

Like an obedient dog, Vaughn's head practically jerked up to gaze in Diana's direction when she called out to him. He silently raised his arm, his response given in the form of a slight wave for the time being, maintaining a calm, yet lightly pleased expression. However, it quickly shifted to concern when Diana had accidentally fallen on her bottom, eyes widening in mild alarm, before relaxing just as quickly when she'd proceed to quickly hop back up as nothing had happened. Vaughn couldn't help but try to stifle a soft, yet good-natured chuckle. That was quite like her, wasn't it? It was strange. To him, there was just something about her that he could describe as... cool. Even when put in an... "uncool" situation. The way she presented herself to others, the way she acted, looked... Maybe it wasn't ideal if he were a parent, but even someone mild-mannered like him knew what constituted as "cool" in this day and age.

Or something like that.

"Hmm? I should be careful?" Vaughn asked half-jokingly in response, placing his hands on the handlebars of the bike and then proceeding to walk, Diana and the bicycle itself in tow, leaving the campus. As they moved along at a leisurely pace, ignoring any odd looks from those who, at this point of the year somehow, were still mystified by the sight of two people like them walking together, Vaughn looked back at Diana with his usual friendly smile, quickly raising an arm to adjust his glasses, before speaking again.

"So what took you so long? It wasn't that hard to get over here through the ice, was it?" He inquired, blissfully oblivious to the real reason as to why Diana had been delayed.
