"After decades of war and bloodshed the solar system was never the same. We had to found our own haven in the asteroid belt. We built Sinley Bay. Now it's where they hire us to fight in their war that never really ended. It's where renegades flee to when they have nowhere left to go. Now I am here to welcome them—to turn them into fine Captains that will keep Sinley Bay free. "Let's see if their worth my time." -Captain Bix

This roleplay is based on the game Dreadnought, which is about mercenary starship captains fighting each other for money, power, and glory.

To understand the current universe, one must go back to the beginning of the transhumans and the following wars.

The transhumans werecolonists originally from our solar system that left in search of new worlds. Years later the colonists return, having merged with their technology (e.g. becoming bioships and/or consciousnesses that inhabit organic technology). Transhumans may have been created through natural evolution in deep space (e.g. merging with their tech to survive) or alien intervention/discovery of alien technology.
The transhumans attempted to get humanity to abandon their bodies and "transcend" like they did. These conversions were not well accepted by normal humans. This culture difference lead to the transhuman war.
To fight the transhumans, the normal humans of the Sol system banded together to form the Pan Colonial Fleet (PCF). Throughout the war, the PCF was back-boned by the three major R&D powers. The military Jupiter Arms factory, the Akula Megacorporation, and the private House Oberon (who specialized in researching transhuman technology and turning the enemy's weapons against them).

At the apex of the war, the transhumans realized that their former humans brethren would never embrace transhuman ascension. The transhumans ended the war by leaving the Sol system and taking a large majority of their technology with them. This trapped the lower tech normal humans within the Sol system due to an inability to make long-distance warp jumps to other star systems.

Remnants of transhuman technology persisted after the war, sparking micro-conflicts. Following the transhuman war, the human political powers began to turn on each other in order to grab as much influence over the Sol territories as possible. The most powerful houses banded together to create a solar empire and began using the PCF as a private military to subdue independent colonies that opposed them.
This began the Great Solar War between the PCF backed imperial houses and a coalition of independents. The Great Solar War ended with the empire's victory. This left the majority of the Sol system under the control of the empire and forced fleeing independents to scatter to the belt and frontiers of space.

Due to disagreements with the empire's power hungry ways, some captains like Bix defected from the tarnished PCF and created the Sinley Bay mercenaries. During the war effort, these disagreements led to legendary battles like the defecting Dreadnought Morningstar vs. the PCF aligned Destroyer Huscarl.

In the current timeline, Sinley Bay is like the tortuga of space. Fringe groups like the radical church of entropy, slaver's ring, etc. skirmish against each other and the empire at the same time. This has created a very lucrative business for mercenaries like the ones that gather in Sinley Bay. The three major R&D factions still pump out weapons and ships, supporting anyone that wants to point a plasma cannon at someone they hate.

The players are Sinley Bay mercenaries, taking jobs from the various groups that are fighting with their neighbors over resources while trying not get swallowed up by the empire and it's PCF watchdogs.
The Transhumans are likely in another system, their presence faint as they watch the current timeline unfold from a distance using their advanced technology. They may come and intervene if the inhabitants of Sol uncover a remnant of their technology that they believe the low tech humans shouldn't have (such as a warp drive that lets humans leave the Sol system, they are pretty happy with the barbarians being contained).

There will be five ship classes to shoose from:

The Destroyer (All-Arounder):
The vanguard of an efficient strike group, the Destroyer performs solidly at every level. It is often the first ship into combat and the last ship out. With skillful Energy Management, the Destroyer can provide a variety of roles for the team.

The Artillery Cruiser (Sniper/Glass Cannon):
An Artillery Cruiser is the most vulnerable ship in the fleet, but none can match its destructive power. Each Artillery Cruiser is equipped with a long-range rail cannon strong enough to destroy enemy armor from miles away. Shift Energy to weapons to decimate enemy ships with several well-placed shots.

The Tactical Cruiser (Healer):
Tactical Cruisers provide lasting support during prolonged engagements. Repairing friendly armor on the fly, they can quickly turn a losing fight into an overwhelming victory. Tactical Cruisers have little in the way of defense and must be escorted or they will easily be picked off by faster ships.

The Corvette (Rogue/Assassin):
The Corvette class can sneak behind enemy lines to strike at vulnerable support ships. Like all other ships, the Corvette can use Energy Management to shift power to engines, allowing it to make quick strikes and even quicker getaways.

The Dreadnought (Heavy/Tank):
The Dreadnought can withstand tremendous punishment while dealing significant damage to enemies. Its slow movement and size often make it an obvious target. Shifting power to shields makes Dreadnoughts nearly invincible for a short duration.

The plot will focus on the adventures and exploits of a group of captains who have banded together to form a small but efficient group.

This RP will feature adult themes such as language, blood/gore, etc. Romance is allowed but any sexually explicit themes are to be kept in private PM's.

Including myself i only need four other people to fill the roster. If you are interested, leave a comment with your choice of ship, I will be the captain of the destroyer so the ship classes to choose from are the Artillery Cruiser, Tactical Cruiser, Corvette, and Dreadnought.

I have interest in playing the tactical cruiser's captain!

Great! If nobody else voices an interest we can make this a 1x1 instead

I'd be interested if a spot is still open!

I'll be the artillery crusier or the destroyer if the arty crusier got taken!

*Infinite nosebleeds suddenly appear*

I, the illustrious Cadence shall choose... the... *drum rolls* Corvette!

Yes BACKSTABBING teammates later on yes?

Yes BACKSTABBING teammates later on yes?
Hrmm...maybe. We shall see how things turn out. While I would not recommend backstabbing. Captains stealing impressive kills from others, showboating and the such will probably be normal. :D

Also it seems that the last time @Pinkleton was on was almost more than a week ago. So I will wait two days before starting.
