The Gates of Yörj have opened...
Article: The Nernwyr Temple has been long thought abandoned on top of the dangerous, winding alps of the Drakeback Mountains. Its monastery walls rose up high and decrepit from age along what's known as the Spine of Oolomnir; jagged stone peaks dusted by snow year-round. Nernwyr had once been a mighty stronghold filled with Dragon Riders and their draconic partners, but that was an age now lost to us. Dragons are no more, and so neither are their riders.
...But recently, the giant brazier atop the monastery has been lit - a beacon that has not been seen for centuries - and rumor has it, that it's something to do with the old Gates of Yörj opening in the east.
War is on the horizon, that much is clear, but the ordinary folk of Fengaard turn their eyes up to the old monastery... Waiting... Hoping... Wondering if, perhaps, the dragons have returned to them.
You are an ordinary youngster living in the kingdom of Fengaard. Coming from one of the three towns surrounding the Nernwyr Temple at the base of the Drakeback Mountains - Stolhoc, Ryslourn, or Murne.
Your life is normal, but one day, it becomes not so. A feeling - an indescribable urge - lures you to the base of the mountain, to the path that leads up to the ancient monastery, but you are not alone. Your life rapidly changes, as it's revealed to you that you are going to become a Dragon Rider.
Why were you chosen to become a Dragon Rider?
What does the return of the Dragons mean for Fengaard?

Setting
- This is a fantasy medieval setting. Magic does exist, but it's rare; magic is tied to dragons and the Eldaar (ancient races). Lore will be explained in-RP.
- Humans are the most common race, but you may also choose City Elf, Surface Dwarf, Halfling or either a Half-Elf or Half-Dwarf.
- Wild Elves are nomadic forest dwellers. They're seen as savage and paganistic. They are known to be cannibals and very aggressive. While elves who live in the cities are treated as the lesser race due to this feral reputation of their kin, they're decent folk. Normal, with a knack for healing. When the time comes, they learn magic the fastest.
- Dwarves commonly live in Underground Kingdoms. Their merchants go to the surface to trade, otherwise they typically frown upon leaving the Underground. They don't like surface Dwarves, as they believe them to have abandoned their people and beliefs. They're stubborn people, stuck in their ways with traditional values and ideals. Surface Dwarves, don't typically hold the same prejudices towards them. They're quite tanky and good at crafting. When the time comes, they learn magic very quickly.
- Humans are the primary race. They're nimble, but also hardy. They're a jack of all trades. When the time comes, they learn magic slowly.
- Any half-breed (elf or dwarf) will have all traits of humans. Though when the time comes, they learn magic much faster.
- Halflings are a minority. They are humble folk. They prioritize comforts and have a love of food. Shorter than even the dwarves, they can pass unseen, and have a special resilience to magical charms that enchant the mind. There are two hobbit towns within Fengaard - Hackdirt and Breith - though they are seldom known to travel, it's not uncommon for merchant families to do so. They have hearing far beyond any other race, and a sense of smell that always leads them home
- Eldaar Races include Ancient Elves, Ancient Dwarves, and Dragons. These ancient race variants are not playable races, but each are connected to magic. They are also common knowledge within the realm.
- Magic is only seen in items these days, crafted by Underground Dwarves and traded to the surface. Magic powers are unheard of, even in terms of healing, as potions and relics are seen as more useful.
- Relics are devices infused with a special ore called Drakestone. It is a red glowing mineral that pulses faint magic. Relics are typically things like weapons and artificed gadgets, but can also be used medically, such as devices that heal mortal injuries, limb restorers, and tools that allow resurrection. Relics are painfully expensive.
- It is designed as a casual slice-of-life RP with a plot. It might become more intense depending on the reception of it. We're just gonna go with the flow.
Guidelines
- As GM I don't require you to play anyone but your character and your dragon. I will handle all NPCs, lore, etc. If you wish to have NPCs based on your family, that's okay, but please don't railroad focus onto them as the story will centralize on the "protagonist" OCs, the dragons, and the plot events.
- Post length doesn't entirely matter to me as long as it's active participation; an internal monologue reaction and optionally an action with or without dialogue. Spelling mistakes happen, so I don't mind those either! Writing levels can be anywhere between Beginner and Advanced.
- Please communicate with me about plans for your character. I'm a "No, but" type of GM. If I can't make your idea work, I will always try to compromise.
- If you're planning to be on hiatus or leaving. I won't be halting the RP due to your absence but I will redirect it temporarily if your character is central to what is going on. If there's an important plot point going on I will wait to hear back from you for a week before pushing on with everyone else. There are no hard feelings if you just don't want to continue this story! Just, please don't ghost

- I occasionally cannot RP Sundays (AEST) due to TTRPGs. I also work full-time. If I go absent for over a week, please send a DM! Sometimes life will be like that, but I'll try to update everyone if I need a pause or tell you when you can expect me to reply again.
- Please do not:
- RP smut. Fade to black or suggestion is okay if it has to be done. Kisses and hugs are fine. Just no NSFW content, please!
- RP "evil" or "insane" characters that do not fit in this setting.
- Powerplay or try to GM.
- RP "evil" or "insane" characters that do not fit in this setting.
- Powerplay or try to GM.
- I also have a habit of acting like I'm going to kill my players (in-RP) but I GM by a "consequences" system. If you don't want to die, something else will happen. I'm not here to threaten you but I do wanna make you sweat. As there are canonical resurrection devices, death is not permanent. If you're not okay with that kind of stress, this is not your RP!
