Discord Note - Discussion of plot elements is a lot faster in here, and also it's easier for Jester to clarify questions. Please feel free to stop by - we're always open to new members and this thread itself will never close! So if you're not up to Disco, that's fine! Just ping Jester with questions! :D If you're unfamiliar with the interest thread, don't worry - all the major plot elements we've accumulated together and built are here in this thread as a main hub! Welcome to the official thread!
Characters Needed
(Magic-oriented characters should have a limit of any 2 magical abilities you want. Humans are magicless.)
- THE SEELIE KING - This position requires creativity, ACTIVITY, and Discord involvement to plan with other RPers to run a kingdom. This position is to ease the load off the DM, Jester, from running 2 sides, and I will be picky from now on who has the position. As of right now, the Seelie side of this RP is on hiatus until this position is filled.
-- Various Fairy Nobles/Citizens (Post OC Info Here)
-- Various Elves, humans, or other races (Post OC Info Here)
-- Various NPC's (Whenever Needed Feel free to make your own as we go!)
Characters So Far
-- Unseelie King - Authello - Jester
-- Ivy Lee - Human - Jester
-- Andara Askia - Outcast - Kat
-- Mansrot Rinkrank - Unseelie - Pinion
What Is This Place?
This RP group is based around the lore and ideology of fairies - it's a mix of the old Grimtales stories, and self-built world elements! Like fairies, and elves? You're in the right place! This RP is high fantasy, is NOT war-centric, and is generally about managing to keep the peace between the Unseelie Fae (the "bad" fairies,) and the Seelie Fae (the good fairies!) Other races are more than welcome to join - the more the merrier, however the world focuses on these two kingdoms and their struggles. We break down our multiple plots in "chapters," which will be explained below, and a culmination of a whole bunch of plot ideas tossed out that people would like to explore in more detail. If you tossed an idea out that fits the world space, you are likely going to get to play out what it is you're after once a prior plot as reached its conclusion! If your idea doesn't fit - we'll work together to make it so!
What Are "Chapters?"
This is not a prompt you necessarily follow - it's something that's already organically happening in the story, and is a marker for where the plot is going now. It's easier for newbies to catch up on what's going on by reading up on what plots and major events have already occurred - you don't want to read 30+ pages of text to figure that out, right? No one does. (Or hell maybe you do, kudos!) Do not think this is a controlling aspect - it's there to help everyone get their plot points in while the main story arch is taking place. Ta-da! You're caught up! It also allows people's personal plot pitches to start, and conclude, and then swing into a new person's plot. Everyone gets a turn if it fits into the world, and swings seamlessly into the next plot arch with a short summary! Easy!
World Lore & The Kingdoms
-- The Overarching Plot - A plague of something is killing off wildlife; plants, animals, and sometimes claims the lives of the fae, somehow. No one knows what it is, why it's there, or where it's coming from, but both kingdoms must overcome their differences and come together to discover what it is, and either put a stop to it and reverse the damage... or leave their forest home.
The Seelie are generally good fae and rarely at all communicate or fraternize with the Unseelie, generally seen as evil. But this isn't entirely true - the Unseelie are like Slythrin House. Evil fae come from there, always, but they are not all evil. Some are darker in taste, naturally develop dark attributes that scare people, or are... different in some way. Seelie are generally seen as those flowery fairies full of sparkles, helpful magic, and affecting the world through music, art, and joy. The Unseelie are generally mischievous, and where those who attempt kidnappings and manipulative tactics come from. Both sides despise the idea of war, purely because killing their own kind is considered shameful, regardless of where they're from, and the deaths of their kingdom's people is a tragedy they want to avoid. However, the Seelie and Unseelie kings are not on friendly terms either, and only rarely meet to talk about managing politics when problems arise. It is as-needed only, and for the most part avoid each other.
Magic is a huge influence in the world itself. Elves have the ability to use it, but not to the degree fairies do. In Grimtales, fairies would often not hesitate to offer hospitality to those in need - and they can and do! However, the difference between how a Seelie would handle that is different than an Unseelie. Seelie would do it purely out of kindness, wherein an Unseelie might take that as an opportunity to put a human with no magic abilities into debt with them. Fairies often did this in folklore to gain an upper hand, and ask a magicless human to perform impossible tasks because they knew they can't, as leverage. Another of those tactics is their parties. Fairies throw WILD parties, and even the two kingdoms will occasionally meet up in celebration of the turning of the year to dance, drink, feast, and generally enjoy themselves. Stumbling across these parties is a sight to see - but DO NOT dance with them! Dancing with fairies is dangerous, as often an Unseelie will dance and twirl you straight into a black and grey parallel shadow plane where they will keep you until they want you as a slave. Avoid it - even dancing with Seelie is a risk, because while Seelie and Unseelie are often associated with bright and dark, they do not LOOK that way in person. Both sides will appear in any shade of colors, looks, or personality - the only way to know is to ask!
Seelie and Unseelie alike choose their kings according to deeds, actions, or standing in society. Almost all are also chosen for their choice of Defense over Offense in order to maintain their carefully wefted peace between kingdoms. If they feel someone would be a good fit for the position, and the prior monarch is ready to step down or die, they call upon said individual to ask them if they are interested in the position. This is a huge honor, and one regarded as the highest form of respect. Sometimes, if a monarch dies unexpectedly, the kingdom will hold a vote as to who should take the position. Those who are chosen are chosen for a reason, and are often feared adversaries - beware!
How Fae Age
Human ages are generally the same as the real world, but fairies and elves live longer lives. Their senses of maturity are much slower since they live longer, and they tend to take their time doing political oriented things, because they don't see the need to rush. By the time they hit 500, they are ancient, and barely able to walk, and only reach mental maturity according to their social circles at 100. Physically, they would still be mature the same rate of a human, however their stretched lifespans have altered their social dynamic to believe that mental maturity doesn't occur until at least their first century of experiences. Elves function much the same way, and in fact live to be 700, reaching maturity at 150-200.
The Sun and Moon
The Sun and Moon are gods in this world who bestow the Seelie and Unseelie with gifts of magic in relation to who they are. Those of the Seelie are often associated with warmth, fire, and light, wherein the Unseelie are known for their darkness, cold, and ice. These gods choose Avatars - they may or may not be kings of either kingdom. Sometimes it is simply a being that they feel are worthy of their blessings, and are highly regarded socially. These Avatars are not the gods themselves, but possible candidates to take over said god when their time has come to finally die. They are Ambassadors of the Sun or Moon, and are seen as speakers for them. Magic that is granted from these gods is usually an enhancement of a specific ability they already have, or an entirely new one - the gods are mysterious, random, and work in strange ways.
The Seelie Kingdom

Seelie are generally associated with the Sun god, and love nature, light, and warmth. They are usually welcoming of other races for trading and cultural curiosities. They tend to protect the forest they all reside in from poachers, or those willing to cut and burn down trees. They regard themselves highly, and have high standards as well in regards to social actions, consequences, and how they carry themselves. They fully believe in thinking before acting, and are fast of wit and charisma. While they may protect the forest, they try to avoid taking lives of other living things, unless cornered and necessary. Most have some form of animal companion that they'd trained and tamed themselves, and are sensitive to the vibrations of magic and other souls in living things. Some rare instances of animal companions are that they've managed to create them purely from magic. The magic-made ones tend to be intelligent, and sometimes have the abilities to speak. They have taken magic to an art level, and spend a lot of time singing things into existence, or creating twisting, winding trees, and unique glowing plants to bring them light at night, when they are at their weakest. Their magic fades when night falls across the land, and strengthens again when daylight returns.Art by: AnnikeAndrews - DA

Unseelie are usually associated with the Moon god, and love darkness, glowing mushrooms, cold, and plantlife. Wherein the Seelie seem focused more on animal companions, the Unseelie find the entire world a garden waiting to be designed to their artistic specifications. Wefted tree branches, strange colored plants, and mushrooms galore - they love making their kingdom a maze of confusion and hiding places. They have lower standards to society and appearance than the Seelie do, and so are very often blatantly self-indulgent, blunt, rude, or crass in public. They also have a respect for life and living things, but some may not have those kind of qualms, nor is it a high priority in high holding. A human who steps on the wrong branch to a home a fairy made might just wind up cursed with a plague. Unseelie who offer food and drinks tend to hold that debt to whoever they offered it too, and it is advised, Seelie or Unseelie alike, to try to avoid falling into a sense of debt with them. And they are very easily offended if equal hospitality is not returned, such as a human being unable to meet magical demands to repay them. Unseelie are generally slow of wit, compulsive, and the less charismatic they are, the more likely they are to act before they think. This oddness in personalities often makes them solitary, even amongst their own kingdom, and awkward in conversation, even if it is unintentional. Unseelie lose potency in their magic during the day time, and only regain this strength one the moon has risen again in the sky.
Those Who Walk the Middle Road
Some fae are outcasts to both sides for practices that ostracize them from their own kind. They are called Rogues, and can either be in a self-made faction, or choose to leave and live alone. They are neutral - some are good, some are bad. They are always fairies, since they are either from the Seelie or Unseelie kingdoms, and are unpredictable. Beware.
Questions? Have A Plot Idea?
Feel free to post in this thread with idea pitches you'd like to see play out in the future! The Discord is a great place to post questions and bounce ideas back and forth quickly, but this thread is always open for posting! Just ping Jester if you have lore questions - the more we flesh out, the more detailed our world will be on the front page. Everything thus far is from bouncing ideas, and organizing them together, and adding depth to lore that the Interest Thread was lacking! Once the thread has a few characters in the Seelie and Unseelie kingdoms, we will begin with our first kickoff plot, which is yet undecided. Everything that happens here is a conjoined effort of everybody, and hopefully will last a nice long time. Feel free to join in and chatter!
