Discord Note - Discussion of plot elements is a lot faster in here, and also it's easier for Jester to clarify questions. Please feel free to stop by - we're always open to new members and this thread itself will never close! So if you're not up to Disco, that's fine! Just ping Jester with questions! :D If you're unfamiliar with the interest thread, don't worry - all the major plot elements we've accumulated together and built are here in this thread as a main hub! Welcome to the official thread!

Characters Needed
(Magic-oriented characters should have a limit of any 2 magical abilities you want. Humans are magicless.)

- THE SEELIE KING - This position requires creativity, ACTIVITY, and Discord involvement to plan with other RPers to run a kingdom. This position is to ease the load off the DM, Jester, from running 2 sides, and I will be picky from now on who has the position. As of right now, the Seelie side of this RP is on hiatus until this position is filled.

-- Various Fairy Nobles/Citizens (Post OC Info Here)
-- Various Elves, humans, or other races (Post OC Info Here)
-- Various NPC's (Whenever Needed Feel free to make your own as we go!)

Characters So Far
-- Unseelie King - Authello - Jester
-- Ivy Lee - Human - Jester
-- Andara Askia - Outcast - Kat
-- Mansrot Rinkrank - Unseelie - Pinion

What Is This Place?
This RP group is based around the lore and ideology of fairies - it's a mix of the old Grimtales stories, and self-built world elements! Like fairies, and elves? You're in the right place! This RP is high fantasy, is NOT war-centric, and is generally about managing to keep the peace between the Unseelie Fae (the "bad" fairies,) and the Seelie Fae (the good fairies!) Other races are more than welcome to join - the more the merrier, however the world focuses on these two kingdoms and their struggles. We break down our multiple plots in "chapters," which will be explained below, and a culmination of a whole bunch of plot ideas tossed out that people would like to explore in more detail. If you tossed an idea out that fits the world space, you are likely going to get to play out what it is you're after once a prior plot as reached its conclusion! If your idea doesn't fit - we'll work together to make it so!

What Are "Chapters?"
This is not a prompt you necessarily follow - it's something that's already organically happening in the story, and is a marker for where the plot is going now. It's easier for newbies to catch up on what's going on by reading up on what plots and major events have already occurred - you don't want to read 30+ pages of text to figure that out, right? No one does. (Or hell maybe you do, kudos!) Do not think this is a controlling aspect - it's there to help everyone get their plot points in while the main story arch is taking place. Ta-da! You're caught up! It also allows people's personal plot pitches to start, and conclude, and then swing into a new person's plot. Everyone gets a turn if it fits into the world, and swings seamlessly into the next plot arch with a short summary! Easy!

World Lore & The Kingdoms
-- The Overarching Plot - A plague of something is killing off wildlife; plants, animals, and sometimes claims the lives of the fae, somehow. No one knows what it is, why it's there, or where it's coming from, but both kingdoms must overcome their differences and come together to discover what it is, and either put a stop to it and reverse the damage... or leave their forest home.

The Seelie are generally good fae and rarely at all communicate or fraternize with the Unseelie, generally seen as evil. But this isn't entirely true - the Unseelie are like Slythrin House. Evil fae come from there, always, but they are not all evil. Some are darker in taste, naturally develop dark attributes that scare people, or are... different in some way. Seelie are generally seen as those flowery fairies full of sparkles, helpful magic, and affecting the world through music, art, and joy. The Unseelie are generally mischievous, and where those who attempt kidnappings and manipulative tactics come from. Both sides despise the idea of war, purely because killing their own kind is considered shameful, regardless of where they're from, and the deaths of their kingdom's people is a tragedy they want to avoid. However, the Seelie and Unseelie kings are not on friendly terms either, and only rarely meet to talk about managing politics when problems arise. It is as-needed only, and for the most part avoid each other.

Magic is a huge influence in the world itself. Elves have the ability to use it, but not to the degree fairies do. In Grimtales, fairies would often not hesitate to offer hospitality to those in need - and they can and do! However, the difference between how a Seelie would handle that is different than an Unseelie. Seelie would do it purely out of kindness, wherein an Unseelie might take that as an opportunity to put a human with no magic abilities into debt with them. Fairies often did this in folklore to gain an upper hand, and ask a magicless human to perform impossible tasks because they knew they can't, as leverage. Another of those tactics is their parties. Fairies throw WILD parties, and even the two kingdoms will occasionally meet up in celebration of the turning of the year to dance, drink, feast, and generally enjoy themselves. Stumbling across these parties is a sight to see - but DO NOT dance with them! Dancing with fairies is dangerous, as often an Unseelie will dance and twirl you straight into a black and grey parallel shadow plane where they will keep you until they want you as a slave. Avoid it - even dancing with Seelie is a risk, because while Seelie and Unseelie are often associated with bright and dark, they do not LOOK that way in person. Both sides will appear in any shade of colors, looks, or personality - the only way to know is to ask!

Seelie and Unseelie alike choose their kings according to deeds, actions, or standing in society. Almost all are also chosen for their choice of Defense over Offense in order to maintain their carefully wefted peace between kingdoms. If they feel someone would be a good fit for the position, and the prior monarch is ready to step down or die, they call upon said individual to ask them if they are interested in the position. This is a huge honor, and one regarded as the highest form of respect. Sometimes, if a monarch dies unexpectedly, the kingdom will hold a vote as to who should take the position. Those who are chosen are chosen for a reason, and are often feared adversaries - beware!

How Fae Age
Human ages are generally the same as the real world, but fairies and elves live longer lives. Their senses of maturity are much slower since they live longer, and they tend to take their time doing political oriented things, because they don't see the need to rush. By the time they hit 500, they are ancient, and barely able to walk, and only reach mental maturity according to their social circles at 100. Physically, they would still be mature the same rate of a human, however their stretched lifespans have altered their social dynamic to believe that mental maturity doesn't occur until at least their first century of experiences. Elves function much the same way, and in fact live to be 700, reaching maturity at 150-200.

The Sun and Moon
The Sun and Moon are gods in this world who bestow the Seelie and Unseelie with gifts of magic in relation to who they are. Those of the Seelie are often associated with warmth, fire, and light, wherein the Unseelie are known for their darkness, cold, and ice. These gods choose Avatars - they may or may not be kings of either kingdom. Sometimes it is simply a being that they feel are worthy of their blessings, and are highly regarded socially. These Avatars are not the gods themselves, but possible candidates to take over said god when their time has come to finally die. They are Ambassadors of the Sun or Moon, and are seen as speakers for them. Magic that is granted from these gods is usually an enhancement of a specific ability they already have, or an entirely new one - the gods are mysterious, random, and work in strange ways.

The Seelie Kingdom

Art by: AnnikeAndrews - DA
Seelie are generally associated with the Sun god, and love nature, light, and warmth. They are usually welcoming of other races for trading and cultural curiosities. They tend to protect the forest they all reside in from poachers, or those willing to cut and burn down trees. They regard themselves highly, and have high standards as well in regards to social actions, consequences, and how they carry themselves. They fully believe in thinking before acting, and are fast of wit and charisma. While they may protect the forest, they try to avoid taking lives of other living things, unless cornered and necessary. Most have some form of animal companion that they'd trained and tamed themselves, and are sensitive to the vibrations of magic and other souls in living things. Some rare instances of animal companions are that they've managed to create them purely from magic. The magic-made ones tend to be intelligent, and sometimes have the abilities to speak. They have taken magic to an art level, and spend a lot of time singing things into existence, or creating twisting, winding trees, and unique glowing plants to bring them light at night, when they are at their weakest. Their magic fades when night falls across the land, and strengthens again when daylight returns.

The Unseelie Kingdom

Art by: melissa1412 - DA

Unseelie are usually associated with the Moon god, and love darkness, glowing mushrooms, cold, and plantlife. Wherein the Seelie seem focused more on animal companions, the Unseelie find the entire world a garden waiting to be designed to their artistic specifications. Wefted tree branches, strange colored plants, and mushrooms galore - they love making their kingdom a maze of confusion and hiding places. They have lower standards to society and appearance than the Seelie do, and so are very often blatantly self-indulgent, blunt, rude, or crass in public. They also have a respect for life and living things, but some may not have those kind of qualms, nor is it a high priority in high holding. A human who steps on the wrong branch to a home a fairy made might just wind up cursed with a plague. Unseelie who offer food and drinks tend to hold that debt to whoever they offered it too, and it is advised, Seelie or Unseelie alike, to try to avoid falling into a sense of debt with them. And they are very easily offended if equal hospitality is not returned, such as a human being unable to meet magical demands to repay them. Unseelie are generally slow of wit, compulsive, and the less charismatic they are, the more likely they are to act before they think. This oddness in personalities often makes them solitary, even amongst their own kingdom, and awkward in conversation, even if it is unintentional. Unseelie lose potency in their magic during the day time, and only regain this strength one the moon has risen again in the sky.

Those Who Walk the Middle Road
Some fae are outcasts to both sides for practices that ostracize them from their own kind. They are called Rogues, and can either be in a self-made faction, or choose to leave and live alone. They are neutral - some are good, some are bad. They are always fairies, since they are either from the Seelie or Unseelie kingdoms, and are unpredictable. Beware.

Questions? Have A Plot Idea?
Feel free to post in this thread with idea pitches you'd like to see play out in the future! The Discord is a great place to post questions and bounce ideas back and forth quickly, but this thread is always open for posting! Just ping Jester if you have lore questions - the more we flesh out, the more detailed our world will be on the front page. Everything thus far is from bouncing ideas, and organizing them together, and adding depth to lore that the Interest Thread was lacking! Once the thread has a few characters in the Seelie and Unseelie kingdoms, we will begin with our first kickoff plot, which is yet undecided. Everything that happens here is a conjoined effort of everybody, and hopefully will last a nice long time. Feel free to join in and chatter!

The Unseelie King

Name
: Authello (Aulo)
Gender/Sex: Male/Male
Titles: Lord of Spiders, Lord of Night & Cold
Race: Fairy (Wingless)
Age: 387
Height: 7'
Weight: 190lbs

Lord of Spiders:
Aulo had always had an affinity with nightmares, and one of the biggest feeds of energy to bad dreams is spiders. Slowly over time, he warped spiderlike, and has the ability to telepathically communicate with the mass swarm that inhabits his castle. They are fist-sized, solid black, and have the ability to speak in very high, sweet female voices. The Augury (messengers/messengers of death) do his dirty work, and also maintain the castle in place of servants. One inparticular is named Samantha (Sam) and likes to perch on his shoulder, or under his hat. She is his Whisperer, or spy, and while sweet, is not to be trusted. Like a spider, Aulo prefers meat, and rarely has prisoners in his dungeons. He eats them, and this often causes fear and unrest amongst the Seelie who know about it.

Lord of Night & Cold:
After his affinity with spiders began to change him, his association with darkness and fear led the Moon to choose him as his Avatar. He rules the nighttime, with the ability to shadow-walk between darkened places, and if destroyed, the Moon will also be subsequently destroyed. At some point, he hopes to become the Moon himself, and repeat the god's cycle - but that day is not today. The Moon bestowed upon him the gift of ice, and he uses it to his best ability in dire need. He can freeze and unfreeze any liquid, including blood, and has established his castle partly out of ice.

The Unseelie Appointment:
Those of the dark fae respected his powers over darkness and fear, and given his gifts of ice the Moon himself gave to him, he was seen as a mighty force with knowledge and power enough to command their kingdom. When the prior Unseelie King died, he summoned Aulo to the court to offer him the position. Not just for his power, but also for his penchant to playing fair and also just. Over time, he grew quiet and distant, yet reasonable. While he may look the part of a fool, only true fools disregard the words of other's mouths.

Personality:
Aulo is aloof, odd, and mostly silent. He rarely speaks unless spoken to for a question, and his voice is calm and resonant. He prefers most of his time alone, smoking his hookah, and maintaining order and peace. This peace is tense with the Seelie Kingdom, but neither side seems to make a move to start a war - and he particularly loathes the prospect of it. The unspoken treaty of both kingdoms keeps the fae alive, and that's his bottom line. To protect his people. He comes off cold, distant, and possibly rough, but in actuality is very much a softie. He has a weakness with ladies, and often acts as much a gentleman as he can. While he tends to be sophisticated and calm, his punishments in his kingdom are often cruel, to set as examples. The Unseelie Kingdom has a surprising lack of crime due to this, and since he comes off so calm and collected, it is considered "unpredictable." Truly, it's only when deserved, in his eyes. Do not think he is unapproachable - he will always extend hospitality, even if Seelie. Relationship to the Seelie: He will always show respect and commitment to peace, even if the Seelie do not get along well with him. He is aware the bad fae often come from his own kingdom - but makes a point that not all Unseelie are evil, and strives to prove this point. He hopes at one point the unspoken treaty of peace is never broken, and while most show him fear, especially in company of the Augury, he always maintains his collected calmness in public to prove a point. He hopes to someday clear the reputation. Evil fae in his kingdom often get away with their deeds, only because Aulo has not heard of it yet. But when justice is due, he delivers.

If Needed in RP:
There may come a time in branched off personal RP that you may want Aulo a part of a scene or situation - feel free to ping me with the page link, so that we can catch up, and it will be roleplayed, as he is not an NPC. I am always open for pings and will respond when available!

Andara Askia

r32WBX.jpg

credit to serhiibobyk for image reference

Name: Andara Askia
Alias: You Bitch (by Orcs), Hey You (by Orcs)
Age: 238
Gender: Female
Race: Seelie (Outcast)
Height: 5'7"
Weight: 127 lbs

Abilities:
Psychic Navigation — The ability to track people/objects with one's mind and create mental maps of an area per superpower wiki. Andara's been practicing this since she came into power during the process of her moon awakening, or moving past the younger years and into teenage years. She's become quite proficient at tracking people she can picture in her mind, even those with peak mental strength, however, those with an uncanny supernatural mental ability to block any incoming waves can sense and stop her. Andara can sense if a target is progressing, however, she cannot identify more than three people in one specific locale. Her psychic navigation also allows her to quickly find her way out of forests, woods, and other situations where an average elf or faery may feel lost and unable to find their way out.

Social Cloaking — The ability to assimilate into any society or social group per superpower wiki. Andara can walk into a bar and immediately assume the position of a barmaiden or walk into a festival and immediately assume the position of a noble. She can sense general emotions and environment of those around her which helps her act quite well around commoners and higher ups, however, she's not aware of anyone that can detect her. The dangers of this ability are tried and true; if Andara becomes too caught up in her new identity and stays the same for too long, she can become detached from her true self.

Personality:
Andara has a generally cool exterior that she puts on for others. She holds a deep grudge against the Seelie and Unseelie kingdom for casting her aside, particularly the Seelie King, and her insecurities are shown with rude spirit and critical eyes. Andara does not want to be hurt again and she finds herself unable to trust others after the trauma she's been through.

Human - Blond wavy hair, bright blue eyes

Name
: Ivy Lee
Gender/Sex: Female/Female
Race: Human
Age: 24
Height: 5'5"
Weight: 130lbs

Abilities: (Hedge Witch)
Can "see" fractions of what she thinks might be a bad future. It is limited only to what she refers to as a "Bad Feeling" in generally a person, or place. The what, and why is beyond her comprehension and serves only as a warning, and it is only limited to something bad. Can see the "soul" of someone and what makes them who they are – but the best way to describe that to someone who doesn't see, is through blobs of color she will splash on a page that represents what makes that person up. Bright splashes of red, black, pink, or patterns are usually her motif for expression. Occasionally, she tries to make good luck charms infused with her good feelings to try to stave off the awfulness that her ability presents her; she is swallowed by the negative emotions. She lives with Aulo in the palace, and serves as a sort of Seer, occasionally pairing with the palace Alchemist to solve problems before they arise.

Life Story:
She was adopted by Aulo when she was only a toddler, when he was contemplating stealing her to the fae kingdom, but in the end didn't. Something pulled at him, and he'd never been able to fully understand why. (Yet.) Her earliest memory of him was his sneaking through her window, a low grumble of a growl, and then her favorite cartoon on the TV in which she related him to. It shocked him; both her lack of fear, and calling him out so playfully. Since then, they'd become close.

Hopes And Dreams:
Ivy hopes to someday understand her own ability to "see" and master it. At most, she wishes to understand what is coming when the feeling at the back of her neck makes the hairs stand on end. As of now, she hasn't mastered it, and can only feel a fleeting panic.

Personality:
Ivy is often alone, having very few friends, and is very often melancholy and lonely. She has deep feelings for Aulo she will not reveal, under any circumstances, and remains as close to him as she can. She knows he views her as his daughter, and will therefore refer to him as her father. She's artistic, and draws a lot of the strange blobs of color she sees of people's souls, often keeping them to herself, as most folks view this as a violation of privacy, but will reveal if asked. She loves music, and often composes her own in her free time.

Mansrot Rinkrank

brett-tucker-3333.jpg

All credit to Brett Tucker for the faceclaim.

Name: Mansrot Panellus Rinkrank
Alias: Old Rinkrank, "Rink"
Age: 486
Gender: Male
Race: Unseelie (wingless)
Height: 4'10"
Weight: 154 lbs

Abilities

Dark Alchemy
: Rinkrank is a learned alchemist, and spends most of the time experimenting within his laboratory located deep inside the Unseelie royal castle, unless his services are required. His current alchemy efforts are centered on a particular personal project, although he may divert his attention if asked. Elemental manipulation, potion brewing, creation of magic items, transmutation... None of it is beyond Rinkrank. However, these things take time. And they may result in mishaps.

Encyclopedic Knowledge: Rinkrank possesses vast, innate wisdom about many things. Although he does not know everything, it certainly can seem like it at times. Whether or not this is the result of magic or simply a very studied or extensive life experience is unclear.

Personality

A venerable and trusted member of the Unseelie community, this old sage, an alchemist by profession, is renowned to hold vast knowledge of almost anything. It is this inmense wisdom that led His Royal Highness Authello to appoint him as his royal advisor. However, although extremely loyal to his King, Rinkrank is also gifted with a natural cunning, and can be sneaky and manipulative in order to further his purposes. At the same time, age has caused some of this former sagacity to fade, causing occasional bouts of senility and doddering. Nonetheless, he's still a valued member of the court, despite spending most of the time locked up in his alchemy lab, tinkering with bizarre artifacts and fizzling potions, and complaining about all the spiders and how cold the castle is.

Rinkrank distrusts Seelie extremely, due to an incident occured in the past where he lost his son.

General
Name: Maeve
Gender/Sex: Female
Titles: Mirage, Lady Maeve, Violet Lady, Lazy
Role: Diplomat
Race: Fairy (with wings)
Age: 295

Appearance
Height: 5''6
Weight: 125lbs
Face: Heart shaped
Skin tone: Pale, cool undertones
Eyes: Bright purple
Hair: Waist length, Raven black with purple tones to it in certain lights, wavy, side parting
Marks: Light freckles over nose and upper cheeks
Body type: Hourglass, thin, not athletic or definition in muscle tone
Wings: Dragonfly like - transparent with purple tones to them. Often positioned downwards and loosely against her back, from a distance looking like she adorns a sheer shawl of purple.
Clothing: Often enough she just wears what is comfortable - which to her is long skirts and loose shirts or dresses. Typically, her style of dress is fashionable and noble in nature. However, pretty much always the colour scheme remains purple, black and white. Blue is sometimes acceptable. She dislikes bright, fiery colours.
Jewellery: Amethyst earrings - always wearing, black plain choker - always wearing.

Abilities
Illusion magic: Maeve has always held an aptitude and ability for illusions in particular. It gives her the ability to manipulate and create illusions that fool the senses from reality on large or small scales. Obviously, the more detail and scale required by the illusion, the more magic it consumes and attention it requires from Maeve herself. Maeve uses her illusions on whims, this ability can be seen as an extension of herself for how often she uses it. In particular, Maeve tends to enjoy using it to create fear in people - finding their reactions amusing by presenting an individual's deepest terrors. However, in her laziness, she also uses them for mundane things or to amuse herself in boredom. This explains why often, when people catch Maeve lazing around, there tends to be opaque, purple dragonflies fluttering mutedly around her.

Shapeshifting: Maeve has the ability to shift her form into that of someone else or another creature. For this to work, even being an ability she practices daily (to hide mostly), Maeve has to see what she wishes to shift into for it to work. She cannot shift into something or someone she has not seen. On occasion, she has shifted into a person composed of random physical traits but the lack of reference makes it harder to keep up with and more often than not, she returns to normal quickly. Her love for purples seems to dominate this ability as quite often, her shifted forms have purple somewhere - sometimes even unnaturally so.

Personality
Maeve is well known for her laziness and lack of energy. Beyond actions that tempt her amusement, Maeve is often found to complain at any work forced upon her and will attempt to delegate it away from herself. Most of the time, Maeve can be found lounging around or within a deep slumber, ignoring reality in favour of her dreams. If not that, she is hiding from responsibilities or purposefully irritating someone with her trickery. Maeve is perceived to be quite selfish, and she can be, as to those she is not fond of or even neutral towards, she shows a severe lack of concern to them in any form. She is not entirely selfish though, she simply takes time to warm up to others.

Maeve when interacting with others informally, can be incredibly blunt and therefore deemed rude almost. In fact, more often than not, she tends to ignore people as if they weren't even there - a tact she often employs to irritate the more hot-headed people around her. This is, to many, an apparently detrimental trait to her job as a diplomat. However, those who know Maeve well know she is a master of facades. Her personality seems to twist to suit her needs and the situation - she has gone from one extreme to the next in the blink of an eye. Only in the comforts of informality does her real traits seem to appear. Otherwise, she will just change to match who she is with.
