Do you commission art of your characters?

Ohohoho, you ask the dangerous questions!

Yes, I commish. Usually the same person over and over because she enjoys drawing my characters. I have... uh... way too many commissioned images.

I like to buy art because to me, it's really the best honest option for characters that need an image, because images draw in the RPers. Doll maker flash games don't always get it right, and to me, googling an image feels incredibly wrong.

As for totals, I have 33 of characters who have only one piece (or groups of multiple of my characters), and then in folders where I have multiples, I have... 109, so that gives me 142, if my math doesn't suck, not counting persona art, and I've been collecting for less than five years, I think.

I'm super obsessed with my kids, though. My goal is to commission at least one 'perfect' or nearly perfect piece of each one.

I don't store my characters in the character section here, cuz it only supports one image per character. I use toyhou.se to host, instead! It lets me fill out the profile how I want, and upload LOTS of images.

My current favorite image is... hmmm... I can't pick!

Yup! I don't use real money though, I commission people on pet sites like Marapets and Subeta and pay with in-game currency xD

My favorite piece would prolly be this one (by Sera on Subeta). I've been using these charas for almost two years now in an offsite 1x1 with @Fox of Hearts and I love these dorks so much <3 (We have four different AUs going on atm)

Friday (the guy with red hair) is my frond's chara~

Another pic, this time of my character Flynn (guy with pizza shirt) and my other friend's character Nuri. They've got a bromance going on and it's adorable. (Art is also by Sera because she is wonderful)

I have lots of other pics that I keep on my charahub xD

Unless it's free and I like the drawing style (I'm very picky about quality, mind you), I'm usually unable to commission (but again, that's probably because I'm very picky and most of the free commissions don't appeal to me)! I want to commission though! I just can't because I'm broke!

I commissioned one piece of my worgen druid with his partner in healing a draenei shaman. From World of Warcraft.

Still not sure how I feel on it. Still not sure how I feel about resubbing currently either.

If you do or don't - why?
Yes, because I sometimes reuse are am using a character enough to where they might as well be commissioned. Even then it's almost always free.

Do you draw your own characters?
At times I might draw my own characters. For the most part though? no.

If you commission art, how large is your collection, how long have you been at it, do you have any favorite artists or pieces you'd like to show?
Small. Haven't really been working on it, it just happens. Yes. No.

Man, I had wanted toyhouse codes for a long time. But when I finally realized I probably wasn't going to get one, I just made my own wordpress site for my characters: Eidolon – Original Character Archive

Then, of course, right after I did that, I got a toyhouse code. I fooled around with it and I did put my characters there, but I ended up not liking the site and I think I deleted everything but my account.

Before toyhouse and my wordpress site, I used The RP Repository which was pretty good. I know about charahub and I think one other one I can't remember the name of but really I don't like any of their layouts.

Charahub has lots of service interruptions, which is why I started asking around for toyhou.se codes. Right now, it's my best-fitting option, and then I use Litphoria for my libertine characters.

I'll be checking out that RP Repository. I like to investigate character hosting sites, so I can recommend them once I have.

I do all three. For regular characters, I go picture hunting, which can end up taking hours if I can't find something that fits the character I've made from my own collection.

If I feel invested in my characters, I draw them. Sometimes they turn out alright.

If I'm particularly invested in them, I drop money on commissions from people with styles I like and with reasonable prices. I don't have very many, but things get pretty expensive after a while.

I have commissioned 2 adult pieces so far. Both this year. I... Don't like either of them. >_<
I dunno. The idea was there, but maybe I just haven't found an artist I like for that stuff yet. Or maybe adult art just really isn't my thing.

Anyway, there's nothing wrong with adult art. I am active on FurAffinity (furry deviantart, basically), and a lot of people have some really great porn of their characters. Makes me a bit jealous. There's quite a few human artists on FA but not many of them do porn (of humans).

It's really hard to find people who draw humans in a style that's not "generic anime" imo.
I lucked out with mine. A friend found an artist at a convention who was willing to do 18+ stuff. We split the cost between us since it was our characters, and now its hanging in his closet. Its not perfect, but I still like it.

I also have an artist friend who draws my characters from time to time. She attempted to draw the lineage of one of my characters. He has something like 9 kids though so she got burnt out part of the way. Poor girl was overworked. x'D

I've had friends draw a couple of my characters because they were either a part of a group project or just because they were being nice, and I've put money down to commission this one character of mine I've been roleplaying in this on-off again Mass Effect roleplay series since I started up again in 2012, so I'm pretty attached to her.

I'm talking with my friend and co-GM of another game about commissioning a group picture for the game we're doing for a one year surprise for everyone, but we'd have to shop around.

I don't think I've used a faceclaim since 2006. That's roughly when I started RPing, and going on from 2007, I've always had a friend who drew stuff for me. So I got references from that, ended up falling into the community of people who both drew and roleplayed, and... basically that's it. The forum I used to frequent required original art, but had a TON of artists willing to draw references for any new members. So through interacting, I accumulated a decent collection.

> here

I'm still a broke ass neet, so I don't commission as much art as I'd like, but I do buy some from time to time. I think I've bought at least 25+ total pieces of varying natures (like pixels, icons, as well as normal commissions). But art just kind of falls into my lap. It's weird. And I have a problem adjusting to people's faceclaim requirements since I've literally never had to use faceclaims ever until I started perusing Gaia, RPN, and here for rps and stuff. It's actually kind of bothersome to me that lots of rps require images, but ov yei?

If I could have custom commissioned art work for every single one of my characters that would be A DREAM COME TRUE.

But like, I have over 300 saved and have been playing since 99/2000? And that's a lot of characters. O_O I am very particular about specific looks of the characters themselves and art styles And if you want GOOD art with your EXACT vision in mind you have to be prepared to pay your artist for the time. (and I don't tend to have that much cash XD)

So most of the art I have is gifts from people or when I post up a request just for fun!

OKAY WELL. this character here. he was more or less the laughing stock of the rp forum he was made for. i made up a little quiz one day for fun that had a question that was like, "which of the following do i NOT have art of?" and like. the choices were:

A) kreutzer in a speedo
B) kreutzer in a magical girl outfit
C) kreutzer thigh-highs
D) kreutzer in a big bird costume

so D was the correct answer. until one of the other forum members took it upon themselves to prove me wrong.
so there. that's why i have that. my poor, poor oc.

it's fucking beautiful.

it's my most prized piece of art. ever.

still my absolute favorite thing ever.

as for the discussion, i've never commissioned anyone to draw my characters before... primarily because i don't have money to spare. :D (but if i did have money i would LOVE to see people draw my ocs). but i also draw them on my own time, so i've amassed a really gigantic ginormous ridiculously huge amount of art for several of them--one in particular actually LMAO. i do have some free fanart from amazing folks but beyond that 99% of my character art is my own. i reuse my characters constantly. can't help it; i get super attached, and over the years they've all developed in ways i never would have expected, and i find that awesome. :^)

One of my friend had drawn a head-shot of my characters. Once again a freebie.

drawing my own characters all day every day
I used to keep my own stuff to myself since face-claims that people used were of much higher quality than my own art, but then after a certain point, I said SCREW IT
and started drawing my own children

All day, every day.

BTW, I have way more OCs than that folder suggests
h a h a h a
I need to update my list.
