I'm going to say now, that while a few characters focusing on darker elements or pasts are fine, this isn't intended to be a serious RP full of dark and terrible events. It's got potential to go there at times, but it's really meant to more be a light mecha musume anime sort of thing (see: Strike Witches, Busou Shinki, etc. Possibly also Heavy Object, even if that's not mecha musume whatsoever).

I'm really not sure if there's a good bit of dissonance between setting stuff so far and intended tone, or not. But it's not like this is going to just devolve so far into cute girls doing cute things that we have a bunch of elite soldiers who just hang around and eat cake while drinking tea all the time, either. My only real worry at the moment is that if there's too much a focus on darker character aspects, that there won't be much potential for interesting or amusing character interactions on downtime.

What I will also probably do is put a sort of cap or two on certain archetypes, if they seem to be becoming something of a common theme. Regardless of what that theme is. Got to have some diversity, right?

Don't worry I got you some diversity right here, as I always do.

But as a question before I dive head first into my masterpiece, when it comes to my character and his/her gear. Can I specify what his cybernetics were made to do, like say they have unique abilities?

Name: Sylphie Foster

Rank: Lieutenant

Age: 25

Nationality: Voskadi - specifically, the province of Chernigov, an agricultural and somewhat sparsely populated frontier, largely consumed by the enemy. Harsh winters hardened the spirits of the farmers out in the prairies. Notably, farmers were known to hold fast to their properties and attempted to bolster defenses against the alien threat, and connected social networks facilitated one of the more efficient evacuations the conflict had seen.

Appearance:
Has something of an alien-looking appearance. Entire body is silver (taking on an appearance like silver mercury), often with the appearance of plated armour (which will distend and morph for purposes). Lines of white light flow along body as it communicates with itself. A blue jewel is affixed to her chest, which stores the remainder of her personality. Her body, being formed of a colony of nanomachines, allows her considerable shapeshifting ability, though she has yet to unlock that fullest potential through experimentation.
Outside of combat, she prefers exercise wear like yoga pants and hoodies, but when prepping for combat her body usually changes to accommodate equipment and combat, and usually to an extent that overcomes her usual modesty with her body

History: Her home was devastated by the alien invasions, along with her family, her father taken from her and her mother plagued by extra-terrestial illnesses. She enlisted in the Voskadi Air Force to kill aliens and get her home back. She wants revenge.

A crack pilot, she quickly ascended the ranks, though her foolhardy attitude has kept her from senior positions of authority. This suited her fine.

An experimental prototype plain, manufactured from reverse-engineered alien technology, was created, offering considerable money for anyone crazy enough to test it. Sylphie agreed to serve as a test pilot, intending to use the money paid to her to pay for treatment for her mother's illness.

The prototype plane was designed to be a top-of-the-line, mass produced fighter plane with all of the latest in weapon advancements, stealth technologies, radar, and mobility, with a unique AI programmed to detect threats and assist in acting offensively and defensively. However, during her test, the controls of the aircraft veered violently out of control, causing it to crash violently.

Extremely injured and on the verge of death, shrapnel of the downed craft had cut into her. Her unconscious body was recovered quickly, but her body was rapidly changing. The nanomachines had migrated from the plane into her blood stream, condensing itself in the heart. Consuming her body and replicating itself, the doctors had pronounced her dead as her heart beat stopped, only for the transformation to complete itself on the operating table. Finding her brain functions still operable, she was immediately quarantined.

Her existence so far is largely a state secret as experiments are ongoing as to what exactly had happened to her, to her chagrin. There's talk of deploying her into live combat for data-collection purposes, which is fine by her. She's itching to rejoin the fray, regardless of her condition.

Personality: Headstrong, brash, and rough around the edges. Has a shoot first, ask questions later take on life, preferring to trust instincts and skill. Doesn't like being worried about or sitting still. Big on exercise and cooking. Acts like a big sister to those she's especially close to. Tries to pretend her condition isn't a particularly big deal.

Cybernetics: Body is 100% nanomachines with no vestige of humanity left behind. Representing new, experimental technology, she's largely able to maintain her own functions, though in severe cases she requires highly-specialized maintenance and care.
The process of her initial roboticization consumed the prototype jet, granted her attributes comparable to a 6th generation fighter jet, including a high-powered machine gun and guided missiles, anti-missile tech, and other technologies like carbon-ball stealth, positional radar, communications technology, and thrusters. Her shapeshifting factor allows other armaments, but she is best suited for air combat and dog-fighting.
Her favourite armaments come from the manufacturer Diego Seven, a conglomerate of seven weapons manufacturers that merged to dedicate resources to the war and fund deeper R&D ventures. She finds their highly versatile weapon rewarding of skill across multiple situations, preferring precision over raw power.

Name: Maxim Yakov Vasilievich
Rank: Leytenant (Lieutenant)
Age: Early 60's/Late 50's
Nationality: Argyotska, Voskad
Appearance: Maxim's face is that of a veteran. Lined, grey, and wizened.

b2U7kVQ.jpg

Maxim's combat chassis resembles a warrior more than it does a soldier. It was to be more than just an effective platform, it was meant as a symbol of pride and hope for the Slovak people. Its immense size allows him to carry and fire enormous weapons such as rail guns, shoulder mounted artillery cannons, aircraft mounted gatling guns, and yes, even an giant ax. The ax is more for symbolic appearance than anything else, but it is still a weapon, and Maxim will resort to it if enemies get close enough. The armor for his combat chassis is flashy, but still effective and stopping most forms of weapons fire. Maxim's strategy is usually to overwhelm enemies with sheer strength, unflinching courage, and steadfast determination.

v9ZMJ5u.jpg

Outside of battle, Maxim is still very large without the armor. Most of his body, save for part of his torso and his head, is cybernetic. He isn't partial to any particular sense of fashion, though he does always dress like it's a particularly warm summer. He's the kind of person to wear a muscle shirt in a white-out, and one to go outside and breath in that fresh air.

History: Maxim was born in the nation of Slovak, in the Argyotska region. Once prized for its majestic mountain range, glistening frozen lakes, and vast white forests, Agyotska was one of the many regions lost during the early days of the invasion. Like the thousands of displaced Slovak people, Maxim grew up alongside other struggling refugees with only his inheritance coming in the form of memories of home. Like all others in Voskad, Maxim had only the words of the Voskayan government. Work hard, trust in us, we will prevail. He grew up on the self sacrificial dogma of the Voskayan government, living for his fellow Voskayan and trusting them to live for him. Always diligently looking to the future with a hopeful heart and hardworking hands. As soon as he came of age, he did what every young man in Voskad does when he's eager to serve his country. He enlisted.

The early days of the Voskad conflict was famous for the sheer loss of both ground and lives. He was one of thousands of troops against the oncoming horde, and in the beginning, it was always a losing battle. He and his comrades could only try to hold the front lines with their weapons, their determination, and their desire to protect what little was left of home. Those early days of the war were called "The Red Winters", because it was said that so many were lost during those battles that the snow was more red than white. More often than not, Voskad forces were pushed back. The few times they won, it was by the skin of their teeth, and victory was always short-lived; they all knew another attack would come in a few hours. According to historians, Voskad forces fired more munitions during those early battles than they had in the last three wars combined. They say that if you go to the sites of any of those early battles and dip your hand anywhere in the snow, you will always come up with spent shells.

Maxim was not a special soldier. He was a burly, large young man, (one doesn't just grow up as the son of a logger without something to show for it) and so he was made a machine gunner. He wasn't some special forces operative or some highly trained specialist. Like the thousands and thousands of other young men, he was given a gun, a helmet and a purpose. But to a young man determined to protect home, family, and country, it was enough. Maxim saw fierce fighting. They say ground infantry always took the heaviest losses, and it was true. Maxim was among one of those losses. It was his third month on the front lines, and it happened fast. He lost both legs, his right arm, and took a severe amount of shrapnel.

He was, however, lucky enough to take that artillery shell around the same time the Voskad government began planning to roll out a very select group of cyborgs. It was called Project Bogatyr, and naming the project after fabled heroes of legend was no coincidence. Maxim was selected, as were many others, based on blood type, physical constitution, genetic qualities, and most importantly, a proven sense of patriotic love for Slovak. The Bogatyr soldiers were more than just another group of cybernetic warriors. Slovak was losing hope. Its people grew more desperate and afraid with each passing day. They didn't need another soldier; they needed a symbol of pride. Each Bogatyr was made large, like a walking tank. Insurmountable, immovable. Their armor resembled that of a warrior, like the heroes of Slovak fables. They were given state of the art augmentations and training. They were once soldiers, but now, they needed to be heroes. They were more than a force against the horde, they were a source of hope and pride for a nation who'd lost everything. Maxim still remembers walking out with the other Bogatyrs in a Slovak government demonstration and watching people see, not machines or men, but walking heroes of old for the first time. It's a pleasant memory he still fights for.

It's been decades now, and the war doesn't seem to be ending. A few Bogatyr warriors have been lost over the years, but Maxim doesn't plan on giving up. In person, Maxim seems larger than life, and despite the years of war and battle, his demeanor has remained optimistic, cheerful, and actually quite friendly. Battle has taught him that life can be short, and time spent alone is time wasted. He's loud, and boisterous, he likes merry drinking and a good drinking song to go with it. When he's on a team, he often tries to be the one to bring the team together. Some might find him intrusive, but it's his way of getting the most out of his time outside the field of battle. He's got a soft spot for children and animals (and has broken regulation a few times for sneaking candy and treats in pouches that are better suited for storing ammunition), and has a deep love for his fellow human being. He wants to save his people and country more than anything; but he wants to save the world with them as well. This fight against an invading horde has shown him that in times like this, unity is what brings us the most strength.

Alright, finding images for this has proven difficult, I'm literally about to pick the concept art for Adam jenson from dues ex lol

I just search for cyborg and/or mecha musume art and usually have plenty of options. Cyborg guys can be a bit tougher to find, though. I can try to suggest various things, but what would work might depend on the overall look you're after.

I'm just trying to look for some synthetic arms and legs. Doesn't help that I get the picture first before I make my Cs, gotta visualize it while I write lol.

Hm. Well, you could try digging trough Blame! and Tsutomu Nihei's other works. Although some of his designs are quite...interesting. Can probably also fudge things with power armor or mecha, if you really need to. I'm not sure how many characters or images I've seen where it's just obviously cybernetic arms and legs.

I thoroughly recommend Nihei's work if you're looking for male cyborgs. They tread a bit into less traditional designs for human cybernetics (at least when compared to a lot of western entertainment's cyborg designs) but there is no denying they aren't some of the most creative cyborgs I've seen.

Also, Nihei encourages the use of cybears if you're into that.

I know I'm into that.

Here's my second character! Going for an actual mecha musume this time.

Name: Masako Sunada
Rank: Warrant Officer
Age: 23
Nationality: Kenshima
Appearance: Like most big-time Kenshima cyborg elites, Masako's augmented body is highly stylized. It's designed to look good in addition to being an effective combat platform; a product of the Kenshima's philosophy and approach to cybernetics. Her armor is interchangeable, often replaced to suit new fashion trends in Kenshima or to promote whatever company might be funding her to debut their new tech. And the glasses are purely cosmetic. Her eyes are augmented, she can see just fine on her own.

Fti5EPM.jpg

Pictured above: Masako Sunada debuting the Souza Corp. R-62 "Razor". The weapon itself had a few performance issues, but because Masako has debuted it, it sold well anyway.

History: Masako Sunada was born in the Kyodai region of Kenshima, an eastern nation that managed to remain quite safe during the initial invasions. Because Kenshima was surrounded by water, they weren't hit as hard as places like Slovak. They were given time to react and prepare. Because of this, Kenshima's national attitude has been a bit more relaxed than other countries. Kenshima was an island, and while they saw a few attacks around their borders, there was no major loss of territory. Water, it seemed, was a good barrier against the hordes.

Masako was a very competitive student as well a reserve unit in Kenshima's Self-Defense Force. When the invasion began, Kenshima mobilized its Defense Force to stamp out the small infestations that began around its borders. When the demand for cyberization of soldiers came, troops with desirable genetics and physical traits were told to consider it. Masako wanted to be the best that she could be against this new worldwide threat, so she agreed. Then, something a bit odd happened...

Kenshimanese citizens began to sensationalize female cyborgs as soon as the government made its plans public. Soon, certain augmented officers found themselves with groups of fans idolizing them. Kenshimanese corporations as well as its government decided to make good use of this. Seemingly overnight, this idolization of female cyborgs was embraced and the new Kenshimanese tech became more stylized, more flashy, and turned into something reminiscent of a fashion industry for cyborg soldiers. Merchandise for fans started to pop up in hobby stores and online. Posters, figurines, books, t-shirts. Kenshima decided to cash in on the craze instead of shunning it. It brought a lot of money in to fund their governments and manufacturers. Girls were encouraged to embrace this image and soon, popular cyborgs found themselves being half soldier, half idol. New seasons meant a change in augments to keep up with trends. If your producer wants to release a Golden Week Limited Edition figurine, you're getting new augs to look like it and make fans want to buy their very own tiny version of you.

Among this craze, the girls who managed to appeal to the public the most became increasingly popular. Companies would pay them to show off their new tech, weapons manufacturers practically begged them to take their hardware and use it the next time they went out to fight, and doing something as simple as getting your bangs trimmed would show up in tabloids the next day. When a new batch of units is on its way, the girls are previewed to fans, and events will feature glimpses at upcoming cyber-girls. It was a very controlled life, and it wasn't for everyone. There was a lot of criticism over Kenshima's decision to use their cyborg units as celebrities and make money off of it. There was also debate over the way girls were controlled in this industry. They couldn't do anything without approval or permission, and some things like dating and going out for a social night were off limits to maintain the illusion of possibility in fans' minds.

An addition to this was the fact that girls were sent out with small camera drones tailing them. These drones did nothing except film and photograph her as she fights. Footage and images were sent to an editor who then edited these for the public to watch later on. Because of this, girls who want to stay relevant need to appease their fans. Strike a pose during an opportune moment and make sure the drone gets it. Do something cute when you get the chance like throw up a V for Victory sign in mid-jump. If the drone flies low, let it get a panty shot, but make it look accidental. The fans love that. Because of the cyborg sensation, Kenshimanese cyborgs are often very flashy in battle. They need to be if they want to stay relevant and keep the funding flowing.

Some girls dislike this and try to avoid falling into it. Others, like Masako, reveled in it. Masako had always been competitive and being the most popular in a new industry was just another competition. Masako is advertised as cute, cheerful, upbeat, and quirky. Fan know her for being optimistic and fun. In person, Masako is fiercely competitive to the point of being nearly cutthroat. She makes it her mission to outshine the competition and stay on top no matter what. As of now, she's one of the top ten elite cyber-girls in Kenshima, and she intends to stay there. Her fanbase is huge and you can't walk into a hobby store without seeing her face on something. Because of her ego and competitiveness, she often views everyone else as just extras. She's catty and sometimes rudely straightforward. It takes her a while to warm up to people enough to see them as more than just another loser to beat down. Still, there's no denying the fact that she can deal some damage out in a fight. Being good enough to win a fight is one thing. Being good enough to win a fight and getting a few photo-ops good enough to appear on magazine covers is a whole other thing.

cYCar6gl.jpg

Name: Aya Sakurano
Rank: Master Sergeant
Age: 16
Nationality: Kenshima
Appearance: Aya is notably flat-chested, and has not "upgraded" that aspect of her body despite the full cyborg conversion. Her cyberware loadout has been modified slightly from the standard (show below), notably in that the radar aerial has been remodeled into a pair of protrusions which resemble cat ears. She does also usually wear the skirt when in full gear. Most of her armor and gear attaches either to hardpoints on subarmor layers, or installed in her body itself.
B1Tkcku.jpg

History:
Aya grew up in one of Kenshima's more remote provinces, enjoying a relatively easy life free from the greater concerns of the world. As the eldest child in a family owning a kendo dojo, she has trained from an early age in the family's style, to one day succeed her grandfather as master of the school. Like many girls her age, she's become entranced by the modern cyborg idol craze, which may have helped drive her to enlist.

Aya's genetic profile suggested good compatibility to cybernetic reconstruction, so she agreed to the surgery, after some lengthy debates with her own family. Her parents and particularly her grandfather, were absolutely against it at first, despite her own wishes. She eventually demonstrated her determination and won over acquiescence, if not outright acceptance. Her young age made her a perfect candidate both for the cameras and for better adaptation and recovery from the multiple procedures, and so she was fast-tracked into the cyborg conversion and training program.

She's adapted well to her new body, and has achieved her childhood dream of flying through the sky. She's adapted...less well to the whole being in the public eye thing, although to Aya, it's more of an annoyance than a job she relishes. She's actually a soldier more to protect people than for personal glory. Fortunately, her clumsy and often foolish antics provide just enough entertainment that some fans just eat it up. Her skill with most weapons isn't particularly great, although her swordsmanship has proven to be an effective asset, such that she preferentially fights with a sword.

Light, cheerful, and friendly, she does her best to cozy up with just about everyone, and enjoys sharing people's company. She also doesn't care overmuch for policies that would prevent her from even spending time with her squadmates outside of combat. She's one of Masako's fans, and is excited by the opportunity to work with her.

Gear:
Aya usually uses a SA-16 Stilletto with a slightly modified loadout. The basic frame and armor are optimized for good aerial speed and mobility, with a series of control surfaces and a powerful plasma engine providing thrust. Her primary weapons equipment are a few missiles and a pair of light machine guns for engaging targets at range, and notably a Front Line MV-02 High-Frequency Katana. She'll occasionally use Front Line's larger blade designed primarily for use by their much heavier melee combat cyborg chassis, particularly against larger opponents.

Alright so, I got my pictures and everything. But I recently just got terribly sick, like literally happened over night. (Which sucks because I had plans tomorrow ;-;) so I'm hoping I can get it up tonight or get further into it, and post it the latest by tomorrow. Please pray for me, my throat feels like sandpaper

Man, I can't remember any of my good home remedies for that sort of thing. Hope you feel better soon.

Take a spoonful of honey, pour lemon into it, and heat it over an oven. Wait for it to cool, and then drink it.

Better yet, make tea and add honey and lemon. Lots of honey and throw a lemon slice in it. Throw enough of it in there and you'll be fine.

@R-9 Pilot so we can't have a all out robot character? Like some AI like robot from IRobot. Just curious

An AI (quite probably masquerading as an ordinary cyborg, or even unaware of their true nature) is certainly within the realm of possibility, but is definitely one of those archetypes I'd limit, as they're an uncommon thing in the setting.

Well I've always wanted to make an AI character who learns how to be more human, and learns from spending time with other people so he/she can learn social skills. If I was to make a character such as this, what are my limitations?
