Disrupted Peace

Maaya saw another person approach them, she felt scared with him nearby, he didn't seem to be as gentle as the other, she didn't like him. But just as she thought about trying to get away the air went still and the other bolted away.

Maay turned and faced the large golem that now came to kneel down by her side, she knew why he was here, she knew that they would notice her absence sooner or later.

The golem that was now next to her kept his eyes on the man across from him, he held out his hand so that Maaya could sit in his hand. Maaya put her small hand on one of the golem's fingers "No, look he looks like me" she said in the golem's tongue, the golem responded with a few low grumbling sounds that only Maaya could understand "I came here to look for our missing one, when I saw him" she said once more gesturing to Elliot. The golem made another sound, but this time he carefully picked Maaya up, got up from his kneeling position and slowly started to walk back in the direction from where it came.

"Hey!" Elliot scrambled after the golem. It was hard not to be intimidated by the sheer size of the creature, so he swallowed hard and tried to forget about it. "Don't touch her!"

It wasn't exactly clear what the golem wanted with her, but he didn't try to attack as he had the researchers. Although, it was most likely a different golem than before. Their characteristics were usually the same though, brute strength, a language humans couldn't understand. Yet, so easily, he picked up the girl and took her away as if she were something to protect, something to nurture.

It didn't make any sense.

"Put her down!"

"What?" Maaya asked herself confused as the man yelled behind them, she climbed out of the golems hand, onto his arm and onto his shoulder, she rested her head in her hands looking at the man from her high perch, she had no idea why he was running after her, although she herself wouldn't have minded staying with him longer she found him really interesting.

She blinked as he she heard him yell something more, the golem turned around and made a swatting motion towards him, golems were very gentle and wouldn't hurt anything unless it was a major threat. So the golem just turned back in the direction it was headed and tried to ignore the other behind him.

"I said let her go!" Elliot screamed at the giant before it could get away.

He picked up a small rock and threw it at the beast, but his arm failed him and it only landed just behind the golems feet. Over the years he'd forgotten how non-athletic he was. All that time spent studying had diminished what little muscular definition he'd once had as a teen. It was so natural back then, and now, all he could do was stare wide eyed at the creature.

It stopped. That was a start.

"Come back!"

Still staring at the other behind her, Maaya held her breath as she saw the man through a rock at the golem. Golems were never a threat but you should never try to hurt something they cared about, and the rock was taken the wrong way by this very golem.

Turning on its heals the golem walked to the man, once he was right in front of him, it stuck his large hand out and picked th man up. If this intruder wasn't going to leave them alone he'd take him away himself, turning in a different direction he headed for the out side of the forest.

Alright, so that wasn't the reaction he was hoping for. Elliot thrashed under the golem's hand, watching in the distance as his partner stared awestruck at the massive creature carrying the man away. He wasn't surprised to see Brian waving at him, almost a sad farewell. Elliot sighed.

"Put me down! W-wait, put her down. Put us both down for Gods sake!"

No matter what he said, the golem continued on until he'd given up his thrashing. He wasn't even sure where he was, the trees were still thick and the sun blotted out through the leaves. He wanted to think they'd take him outside, but, he hardly doubted it would be so kind as to drop him off at camp. Elliot turned up to the girl who rested freely in his opposite hand, what made her so special in comparison to him? They were both human, she a girl, and he a man. But was it the only difference? Surely not.

She smiled, she couldn't take her eyes off, of the other, he was kinda funny even in his state of panic she noticed the other man standing and getting smaller as the walked further away, she paid him no further mind as she turned he gaze back to the thrashing man her golem friends holding. She waved at him with a smiled when he looked at her, he clearly didn't get the fact that's the golem could not understand his yelling.

After walking for a while, a clear place a only a few trees came into view, it was just outside the forest a place Maaya had never seen this close before. The golem stopped in the middle of the clearing, crouched down and put the other down, he got up again and made a motion with his hand, like you would with a dog when you told him to stay, and walked back into the forest. Maaya gave the man another wave as the golem walked on.

Elliot pulled at his hair as he screamed in frustration. This wasn't typical behavior of the normally suave researcher, but after watching the golem walk away without a care in the world he almost couldn't take it. He wasn't sure where he was, where to go, all he knew was that the edge of the forest was just around him. It was going to get dark soon and he'd grow cold without a fire.

"Cursed hunk of no good..." He muttered under his breath as he kicked the ground uselessly.

There was no way he would follow after as the sun set, he told himself. So he settled a few feet inside the forest, just below a tree, and picked at twigs around him so he could start a fire. That was the most prevalent issue at hand. No fire, no heat, no heat, death by freezing. Elliot was no more fond of that idea than he was being crushed by the same beast which left him at the edge of the woods.
