Hale Vincent

6417a0fc01012cdae9b7df0bdc762d46_1.png

Pseudonym: ParCore

Age
: Eighteen

Height
: 5'10" (177.5 cm)

Weight
: 160lbs (72.57kg)

Physical Description: Hale dyed his originally brown hair red the moment his manager said he could. Though his manager did get quite a bit of shock when he showed up for work with half his hair shaved off and thunderbolts carved into the remaining fuzz. During his shift he'll take out most of his earrings but otherwise he was an eyebrow piercing, a couple of helix, one anti-tragus, and a few lobe piercings (meaning he has a lot of ear piercings), and a set of snake bites.

While he would love to say his necklace is near and dear to him along with some heartbreaking and dramatic backstory, it's just something he picked up at the local mall because he liked the color. He adorns three bracelettes on his left wrist. Again, just something he picked up rather cheaply somewhere along the way. Despite his love for flashy jewelry, his fashion choices are often rather plain and simple (shirt, pants, maybe a button up over a undershirt).

Oh yeah, and he has blue eyes. He just likes how the red contact lenses look. Of course he doesn't wear them while he's working. A blooming lotus is tattooed on his left shoulder and as much as he can say he was drunk when he made the decision, he got it because it wasn't a tattoo he'd seen very often.

Brief History: Hale grew up with a witch mother. Not the super kind of witch but the kind that will mix you teas to improve your mood and give you stones to chase away nightmares. He believes in witchcraft but not an actual practioner himself. On the other hand, his father is a cop with the thing he also has. A good guy if a bit worn down by his job. He made sure Hale knew how to defend himself and know his limit while doing so.

When it came to school Hale was pretty shitty student. In fact, his principal suggested he be entered into a program and get his GED instead. Which, he did. He now works as a barista at the local coffee shop living a normal life seeing people of various fatigue and self importance walk in and out of glass doors. Except, you know, that thing. The thing that was pretty interesting in early life but lost it's charm as he grew older. The thing that made him sign up for the local karate program just to see if he can and take on parkour on his down time because it came so easy to him. You know, that thing.

While Hale would love to say his childhood was pretty average there's this thing about him that sets him apart from the rest of regular old humanity, but doesn't put him on the radar of the supers.

Yeah, that thing.

Despite it's lack of flashiness he wants to know if he could do hero work. You know, give back to the community. But mostly just to see if he can do it; if he can cut it. Plus, barista by day, hero by night just sounds interesting.

Personality: His father raised him to believe in humanity and to help others within his personal capabilities and that's what he believes he should do. But he never had an interest of becoming a cop. He gets why people are attracted to men in uniforms but he can't see himself fading into the background with every other cop on the force. Just another person to walk through glass doors. He got a taste of that being a barista. He doesn't exactly know what he wants from life but fading into the background? That's not it.

Hale's not loud but he does like wearing flashy things and taking opportunities to show off his capabilities. Comfortingly confident without arrogance is how he would describe himself. It's a fine line but he knows how to walk fine lines. Well, under most circumstances anyway. He can't help but to get a little head of himself around kids or people who believe their just naturally better than everybody else. If you're going to claim to be better at least back it up. He finds these the best to test his capabilities on.

In the end, he does like seeing just how many things he can pick up without even trying.

Skills: Quick Reflexes, Excellent Balance, Flexibility, Self Defense, Disarming Small Weaponry, Shooting, Karate, Ninja Run

Powers: Hale has the ability to rapidly respond or change by adapting its initial stable configuration. In short, he has enhanced agility that allows him to do things like parkour with little practice or prior experience.

Weaknesses: His enhancement doesn't actually affect his speed or strength and he can't perform beyond his body's limitations. Furthermore, his muscles might be resilient to strain without proper stretching but he can still be injured by unforseen environmental hazards.

He's got a lot of nervous energy and finds sitting still and waiting difficult. He fidgets a lot, bouncing his legs and tapping his fingers. Most times he doesn't mean to do it. He's also not as mentally flexible as he is physically and adapting to changes isn't easy for him whether they be changes in plans or routine.

OMSTTSW: Why doesn't he become a cop? Surely his skills would be better served on the force, right? It's simply not for him. Certainly not as interesting as being a hero. He'll give it a shot if he can't cut it as hero.

His "hero costume" is just a bunch of scavenged up sports gear he can comfortably move around in.

He loves running and jumping and climbing. A reincarnated monkey basically.

He had a bit of a ninja phase when he was younger and learned how to ninja run (not only with his arms stuck out behind him but run across small surface areas life the top of fenses). For a time his favorite catch phrase was "this is a drag". He doesn't do either of these anymore of course.

He's not openly gay, but still gay. With that said he's never dated before.

Considering taking up a melee weapon.

Doesn't really consider his power an actual power and merely calls it that thing.

ACE
Southeast Path

Ace, even before the apocalypse, wasn't good with people. People like them were either expected to come out of their shells sooner or later or live in the shadows of those confident enough to take what they want. Who knew there was a third option? Wait for the downfall of civilization and gain unique abilities that gave one shortcuts straight through socializing.

No longer did they have to suffer through small talk and bumble through the awkwardness that came with budding relationships. It was either they chose to be ignored, to be a complete nobody, or be an old friend and treated accordingly (ideally anyway). It was this anonymity that perhaps gave Ace the confidence to just walk straight up to people without worrying how they may come off and treat others as if they've known each other for years.

It was this unique ability Ace was hoping to use to swindle their way to cheap food and board. They didn't exactly have much on them with the only items of worth being their jar of honey and a bottle of whiskey. They didn't want to trade away either of these items no matter how badly they wanted a meal that wasn't pemmican and an actual bed to sleep on. But they didn't have much else; nothing they wouldn't need anyway. Maybe their flashlight? Good for exploring dark places but otherwise night travel was stupid and it was better to travel by the light of the moon anyway least you drew unwanted attention to yourself. Sometimes even a fire was pushing it.

Behind the face mask they wore, they huffed, kicking at some loose pebbles. If they were really desperate they could use their other ability and attempt to convince the tavernkeeper it was the rocks that were special instead of being acted upon by an unforeseen force, but that was both too shady and dangerous. Maybe they should try focusing their efforts on someone else to try and have them pay for them. Anything for an old friend right?

Raina is generally an expressive person with a really bad poker face. Her expressions are usually some degree of angry, annoyed/irritated/peeved, challenging, stunned, and/or fed up. Smiling, not smirking, is a rarity for her.

Personality
If there's anything one can say about Raina, it's that she's very outspoken and snaps at people with little provocation. She can be bossy and demanding, especially pertaining to duel club, and guilty of being prideful. She's an aggressive, assertive type of person who knows how to take up space in a room despite her stature. Not to mention very competitive.

Few will get to know just how loyal she can be, and how much she values it. She can be dependable and trustworthy to a select few who somehow manage to get close to her, and offer insight to things that may shock people. It may come as a surprise that she can actually be level headed and thoughtful when the situation calls for it.

Honestly though, most will remember her for being very loud.

History
Raina's problems didn't start when she was a kid. They didn't even start when she was born. They started when her mother saw a man she thought was cute and just had to have him, even going so far as to have her mother use what influence she had in pureblooded social circles to arrange a marriage. Whether or not the marriage was healthy, happy, or even loving was debatable, but what came from it was not: five pureblood children to be proud of.

Raina Summers wasn't the first child, nor the second, not even the third. She was, in fact, the fourth child of the five. The first born of them was actually Celeste, who, like her grandmother, had some strong opinions about blood purity and having bloodlines stay pure. Their father, however, was not of the same opinion. This often caused strife within the family, particularly between their father and their grandmother (in Celeste's words, "our mother is too much of an air head to have an opinion on anything that isn't glitter or gold.)

If it was Celeste taking their grandmother's side, then it was Selene who took their father’s side; just as if it was Celeste who held the family's hopes and ambitions as the first born, then it was Selene who was the rebound as the the second born. The rivalry between these two was often described by their peers at Hogwarts as bitter and intense. If their rivalry wasn't about their political views, it was about their academia, or how they generally treated people.

Stuck between all this discord were the last three children, which included Raina's older brother Declan, and her younger brother, Kyler. For whatever reason, out of the three "extra children", Celeste took an interest in Raina. It wasn't something she really thought much into, only that she had questions, Celeste often answered them. She made her feel so grown up and mature! She spent most of her pre-Hogwarts years following her around and mimicking her actions.

One of the reasons Declan was often overlooked by Celeste, his grandmother, and even his mother, was his lack of speaking. It wasn't that he couldn't speak - they've all heard him talk at some point - but he just seemed to refuse to. This made communicating with him harder than with their older siblings and for the longest time Raina was convinced he hated her! As his eleventh birthday drew near, their father's concern for Declan's social development at Hogwarts grew despite Selene's numerous assurances she'd be there to look after him for his first couple years (over Celeste's sneering, "stop babying him. He can talk, just make him use his fucking words.")

Their problems seemed to be solved, however, when their father learned from a muggleborn co-worker about sign language and wanted to teach Declan it. Both Raina and Kyler thought it was fun, but it had their mother running to their grandmother about it. The night before Declan was to to sent off for his first year of Hogwarts, an explosive fight broke out between their grandmother and their father that had Selene coralling the three younger children into her room to try and engage them with games.

Their father punctuating his leave with the sound of a slammed door made them all jump.

Their father looked worn and haggard when he showed up to see Declan off with the rest of the family, but he still smiled warmly, even as Raina felt tears welling up in her eyes ("I'm not crying, you're crying! Shut up!").

While the older kids were at Hogwarts, Kyler and Raina were stuck at home with their parents arguements increasing in both frequency and volume, only this time Selene wasn't there to distract them with boardgames. One night a break-in happened and something terrifying happened that Raina and Kyler refuse to talk about. A week later, they were burying their father.

When the rest of the Summers children came home there was another fight between the rest of them, and Selene. Well, until Celeste called their mother an imbecile and got thrown out. It was either that or what are you going to do? Have me killed like our so-called father? Those words have stuck with her to this day.

Present Day
Raina's first couple of years at hogwarts were tremulous at best, with the child varying wildly between quiet and gloomy to loud and angry. Her abrasive temperament has made it hard to get along with most people and make friends, something to she claims to be more than happy with.

Fun Facts
• Can probably be bribed with chocolate, it's her favorite thing in the world.
• She perfers cold weather over hot, and can be seen wearing jackets in weather that has everyone bundling up.
• When she gets particularly annoyed or irritated, her eyebrow twitches.
• Don't asker her about her stance on bloodlines and shit, she might bite your head off.
• Her favorite color is purple.
• She will flip you off.
• She is terrible at cooking and even worse at brewing potions.
• A decent flyer and joined the quiddich team partially to spite August, partially to give it a try.
• She's always been a fan of high up places and doesn't seem to fear falling.
• When she's upset or trying to self isolate, she usually tries to hide in a very high up and hard to get to nook or cranny.
• She specializes in more aggressive magic and counter spells, and prefers wide open areas to duel in rather than on a glorified, long table.
• She prefer birds over cats and dogs. She's not mean to any animal she dislikes, but she will make faces at a cat trying to settle on her lap (while doing nothing about it).
• Wants to one day ride a hippogriff.
• Around the time of the anniversary of her father's death she gets particularly bitchy and closed off.
• Her and her siblings try to get together and celebrate his birthday.
• Neither Raina or Kyler will talk about the night of the break in that resulted in their father's death, and their mother is too dismissive to even consider bringing it up to.
• Her mother keeps talking about marrying her and Declan off to "worthy suitors" and fantasizing about weddings and grandchildren.
• Both Declan and Raina started their seventh and sixth year hung over from a night of drinking.

Raina Somers
24 || FEMALE || LADY

A P P E A R A N C E

At 5'8" Raina sweeps the floors in dark, decadent gowns and lace, with long black hair often worn in intricate styles and silk. Silver adorns her long neck and wrists in the form of delicate jewlery as her grandmother says it compliments her blue eyes. It always feels cold against her skin; fair and easily sunburnt.

P E R S O N A L I T Y

Something about her has her mother's contempt. Raina couldn't tell you what exactly. As a child she did what she asked and presented herself as expected. Where she realized it was never going to earn her, her mother's love she also couldn't place. Now, she smiles too sharply, bares too many teeth, demands too much of the room, with a voice that is too far above meek for a gentleman's liking. She is abrasive and angry and she struggles to hold her tongue. Too jagged, too hurt, too much.

The needle of her moral compass points down the middle, straying only when the situation calls for something more than neutral and less than chaotic. She does well under stressful situations, gets irritated at inaction even when inaction is the best option, and places perhaps too much faith on her gut instinct. She should fear heights more than she actually does, perhaps she should hold more fear towards many things, but self preservation is always and unwisely pushed to the back of her mind.

Never was she much of an animal person, but birds and other avians remain the exception. She likes reading about them and in a rare moment of peace and quiet, she'll content herself with watching them. Her room is decorated in potraits and figurines of just birds. And in the corner, an empty bird cage sits.

She doesn't take too kindly to being gifted a live one.

H I S T O R Y

Raina was born to the Earl and Countess of Grey and the wrong way at that. She had to have been for her hand to be smacked just for picking up a quill. Playing an instrument was even more of a nightmare. She naturally held things in the wrong hand, in the wrong way, and it made doing simple tasks that much more difficult for her if only because her mother was there to correct her and with force when needed.

Eventually she did learn to write the right way and hold the violin the way it was intended to be held. Her mother even made her play for her and her guests in front of a crackling fire. But she had two sisters and one brother that came before her, and another brother after her, so after her moment of fame, she was quickly forgotten about.

Raina excelled in many things including dancing and singing, but doing these activities out of spite only took her so far. When she read about Mademoiselle Maupin and her dueling career, her attention quickly turned toward fencing. An elegant but dangerous sport no doubt, but one she went to great lengths to learn only to further agitate her mother and strain their relationship.

The final nail in that coffin was hammered in at her debut. She arrived late, first of all, and secondly, she was twirling her violin bow while holding the body of the instrument in the reverse position. Dancing and introductions mere meant to be made, but instead she entered through the main doors of the filled ballroom and went straight to the middle of the floor. What she played was Andante, the second movement of Symphony No. 94 "Surprise", and while she played she danced. By herself. When she finished, she turned to her mother's flushed red face and took a bow before strolling right back out of the room.

In her defense her father had died not a week proir to health complications and it was her mother who had the audacity to continue with her debute as planned. (It was her older brother, the third born, who inherited the title of Earl much to the frustration of the first born daughter; family drama that Raina tries very much to stay out of.)

She would later go on to duel a gentleman in her favorite laced gown, her hair up and pretty, and winning with a thrust and lunge combo that went against the usual showmanship that was practiced. Afterall, she wasn't doing this to look pretty, she was very much going for the win. And she did win, and was awarded with the gentleman looking thoroughly humiliated. Good

Maybe one day she'll settle down with someone, pop out a kid or two, but perhaps first she would have to stop sitting on rooftops while staring down the bottom of a bottle, to the panic shouts of servents on the ground, wondering what she could have done in her youth that was so deserving of her mother's disdain.

Oh and overcome her fear of marriage. Seeing her parents in a loveless marriage has left a strong impression on her even if she came to terms with the fact marrying someone for love was a fantasy.

Dragonfly/Summers History
- Delphine and Blair runaway from their rivaling pureblood families and elope Romeo and Juliet style.

- Dacian is born to them in Summer as is every first born on his side of the family.

- Sadie is born to Rowan and Gerald

- Gerald passes away from a mysterious illness and Rowan becomes sole owner of Owlrest Mannor, inherting his wealth, land, and owlery from his will

- Dacian and Sadie, both Slytherins, officially meet in 5th year.

- Sadie wants him to be her husband and Rowan, never denying her daughter
anything, proposes an arranged marriage.

- Dacian's parents wants to decline but Dacian seizes the opportunity to impact Sadie's way of thinking and accepts.

- Sadie and Dacian are married after graduating Hogwarts. Sadie wanting many children causes a minor controversy.

- They eventually do go on to have five children.

- Dacian is having a positive impact for the most part and is able to introduce more open and tolerant ideology into his house hold.

- At a young age, the first born, Celeste meets [EXPUNGED] and, while still children, the adults are already talking of seeing them wed. The two appear to get along with [EXPUNGED] finding Celeste to be a trusted confidante.

- Celeste idolizes her grandmother and begins to absorb her opinions and romanticed stories of pure-blood society.

- She begins to reveal what [EXPUNGED] has been telling her and expresses "great concern" for him.

- She is no longer to be betrothed and no one is to mention her potential marriage further.

- While all children were expected to help in the owlery to earn an allowance, Celeste takes a further interest in the buisness side of it as they raise and sell messenger owls to an exclusive clientele.

- She also absorbs her Grandmother's clear dislike of her father and how he's "ruining their family" and "has them on the cusp of falling out favor of all those connections grandmother Rowan worked so hard to build and maintain".

- Wanting her grandmother's approval and to act in betterment of her family to secure to solid future in this ideal pure-blood society, Celeste does small things to further smear her father's image and spreads lies about fer father not truly loving his wife and only using his children to further an agenda.

- Branok gets involved and gives the impression he's smoothing things over and Dacian finds him to be an agreeable man.

- On Christmas eve, while Rowan, Sadie, and Celeste (now 20) go out to "a dinner party hosted by a family who may have a potential suitor for Celeste", Dacian stayed with the rest of the children; Selene(18), Declan(11), Raina(10), and Kyler(8).

- Kyler makes Declan and Raina stay up with him to set a trap in front of their fireplace that wasn't even functional but looked impressive (because it wasn't very well hidden either).

- Selene, who had been doing some late night reading in the family room, was promptly exiled to the dinning room on the grounds "Santa will not come if you're reading in the family room!" She couldn't argue with their logic (even though their chosen hiding place was right behind the couch). Dacian was in the kitchen making everyone a late-night snack.

- At this point no one was aware the outside cellar doors and the cellar doors in the kitchen had been left unlocked.

- Dacian was handing Selene her hot chocolate when she noticed two figures standing in the doorway between the kitchen and the dinning room. Dacian still has his wand on him and covers Selene as she makes a run for the rest of the children.

- Before she can get them upstairs though, they had pushed Dacian back into the foyer between the family room and the upstairs. She shuts the doors to the family room and corals the younger three against the same wall to at least try to keep them out of view.

- Dacian is blown three them and slams into the couch, falling limply to the ground.

- Unarmed, Selene keeps the children behind her and presses them closer to the wall as the two home invaders begin ransaking their family room and smashing furniture. It's not they don't notice Selene and the children, they just don't care.

- After their looting, they break through one of their larger windows, finally teuggers their silent alarms and leave. Dacian doesn't get back up. It takes 30 minutes for anyone to respond to the alarm.

- It's just another thing no one talks about.
