  • Starting the early 2020s the third world war broke out only this one was different because most participants were building or had nuceal capabilities. It was long and bloody and in the end nuclear weapons were used. Many countries were wiped out.

The USA had been building vaults and shelters during the war and many citizens survived hiding there. Still most of the country was left on the surface to suffer the consequences of nuclear fall out. Most died, but some survived burned and mutated. As year went on the nuclear wasteland that was once the US also moved on. Where cities once were grown over rubble now stood. The animals and humans thta lived mutated to survive. The climate even changed putting the US ever present extremes. Extreme heat or extreme cold with very few 'moderate' months inbetween.

Years kept moving and things fell into a way of life. In the vaults people lived under the thumb of their director. Some were strict some lenient. Some vaults were evacuated because systems failed, revolutions ended others, and still other survived by harsh punishment and extreme control.

There are roaming gangs and nomads that have been thrown out of or escaped vaults on the surface, but what the surface dwellers and shelter dwellers don't know is that the vaults were never built to last this long. The time will come when everything will stop running and working. Then it will be seen who will survive.
  • Name: Henrietta Sari Gulyas

    Nickname: Retta, Ri, Henri

    Age: 19

    Gender: Female

    Orientation: Straight

Likes: People, water, drinking, music, her denim jacket(She likes the patches), colorful things, flowers,

Dislikes: Feeling used, being alone, the night, her past, sleeping

Why They're Out Of The Underground: She was thrown out of her vault for stealing alcohol.

    Personality:

Impulsive- Henri is very impulsive. She tends to act without thinking and doesn't have the best self control. She has hyper-sexual tendencies and tries to hide problems by distracting herself and keeping herself busy with other things. She will get into fights, steal things, and make poor decisions and deals just to keep herself from having to think about her past or why she does what she does.

Extroverted- Henri enjoys being around people which can be a problem in the wilderness where friends are hard to come by. She tends to get anxious and depressed because she has nothing to distract herself with. Being around people gives her energy and helps her keep her mind busy. Henri also cares for people a lot which is hard to see because of how jumpy her attention is, buts he truly does care for others.

Energetic/Jumpy- Henri has a lot of energy. She tends to be hyper which helps her keep going for the days where it's dangerous to sleep because of gangs or mutants in the area. Her energy is very vibrant. When around others she talks a lot and is very jumpy and exciteable. She doesn't focus too well either so her conversations are very flighty.

Lonely- Even when around others Henri tends to feel isolated and alone. Which is why she overcompensates with being high energy and very friendly. Because of her past Henri feels like she can't connect with others easily. She depression issues, but can hid it around others because people give her the energy to hide stuff. When alone she doesn't have that energy to care anymore.

Bio: Henri was born in one of the harsher vaults. It was very strict about who was useful and who was useless. Her father, who was a nurse, was thrown out when she was 4 because he was stealing narcotics. This was also the time the twins were born.

Kata and Abraham were born early and Kata was born with CP in her left leg. The director of the vault gave her mother a choice. Give him Henri or Kata gets kicked out because she was considered 'useless' due to disability. The deal was secret of course and required for Kata to stay hidden so that other families didn't try to cut deals also.

Her mother chose to give Henri to the director. Henri lived with him until she was 15. A week after her 15th birthday it was discovered that Henri had been stealing alcohol from the small supply the vault had which was used to reward people the director favored or rarely as a reward when the vault was doing well. Stealing in the vaults was considered one of the worse crimes because of how limited certain supplies were especially as rare as some things were.

Upon being thrown out Henri didn't have anything. She wasn't allowed to take any supplies to take with her. The vaults policy was if anyone was caught stealing they would be released into the wilderness with one pair of clothes, but no shoes and no supplies. This was discourage stealing even in the lowest class of the vault.

Henri hooked up with several gangs as she wandered using prostitution as her form of paying because she had no other skills.

Looks: The young woman stands at 4'11" and is rather thin from her time in the wilderness. She has very small muscle definition from getting stronger but is also very spindly. Her curves though their are relatively small from malnutrition.

Henri is part Hungarian, part Israeli, and part British. Her skin is a light brown and now after 4 years in the wilderness is deeply tanned and dirty. She has plenty of scars on her body. There are a lot on her legs and feet from her first weeks and months in the wilderness and also on her arms and chest from fighting and sometimes her form of 'trade' got rough.

Henri has black slightly wavy hair that's greasy and filthy because of how little she gets to perform personal hygiene. She hacked it up with a knife recently because she thought it was getting too long and too nasty. It hangs over her ears a bit and unevenly around her neck and forehead. She has moderately thick eyebrows and rather thick eyelashes.

Her eyes are a very deep blue with a star burst of gray near the middle and specks of brown in them. Her nose is a button nose and her lips are thin. Her right ear is normal, but her left ear looks mangled because when she was first out one of her 'clients' shot at her after he felt he didn't get a good enough end of the deal. It missed her barely, but ripped up her ear and deafened her in that ear.

Henri's hands are small and by now well calloused and scarred. Her nails are bitten to the quick because when she gets anxious she bites them. Her feet are also relatively small.

Wears: She wears a dingy tan t-shirt that used to be white, but now is more sandy brown if anything. Her pants are a set of faded desert camoflouge cargo pants that have rips at the edges and are getting threadbare at the knees and her boots are a pair of brown kids work boots she traded for years a go.
She has a coyote tan backpack she also traded for also a few years ago. It's a military bag with velcro on the outside for patches and strips you can hook flashlights and the like too.
She has a faded denim jacket with various odd patches in her bag she uses in the winter.
She has a milk jug filled with water she keeps slung on some rope over her shoulders.

Other: She is deaf in her left ear.

Henri bites her nails when anxious.

Her gear is a mismash of old military stuff and work type clothes. She got most of her gear during her first year in the wilderness.

Most of her 'trades' now she still uses prostitution for because she refuses to trade her equipment for fear of losing her things.

Most of her trades now are to use water filling places and get food.

Henri never sticks around with one gang because despite it being her choice to sell herself she eventually starts feeling used and unable to form any deep connections will runaway and move on.

  • Name: Maria Covan

Nickname: Maria greatly dislikes nicknames. People who greatly dislike her often call her 'mutt' or 'bitch' and on a few occasions she's been called a 'slut'.

    Age: Twenty-three

    Gender: Female

Orientation: Polysexual/Pansexual. Maria has no clue what her own sexuality is.

Likes: Her dog, Tota, and the few people she calls friends. She likes to drink (especially strong drinks) and has an odd love of violence. If one of the options is to rip somebody to shreds then she'll happily go with it. Maria is also very fond of parkour and likes to exercise in her spare time.

Dislikes: While Maria doesn't dislike emotions, most tend to confuse her and that annoys her beyond belief. Maria struggles to understand/feel most emotions, so it can be easy to confuse her if she starts feeling an emotion she isn't used to, which can then annoy her. She (much like everybody else) hates the mutated, she also hates people who can't at least handle a weapon and are completely helpless.

She also hates small places, tight spots start to freak her out after awhile.

Why They're Out Of The Underground: It's very simple actually, she didn't like being contained and told what to do. Along with this, her friends (who make up the rest of her group) got sick of being trapped in harsh environments so they broke out and left, killing a few people along the way. Another reason why Maria wanted out was because she was being abused mentally and physically, although she doesn't talk about it often.

Personality: Maria doesn't understand most emotions, but that doesn't mean she doesn't have a personality. Maria is a very shameless and confident individual, she looks good and is talented at survival and combat and she knows it. Maria can also be very blunt, she isn't one who often tip toes around a topic and she definitely isn't one who shies away from a situation.

She hates being bossed around, and will beat some sense into whoever decided it was a good idea to boss her around.
Despite this, Maria is very carefree and fun loving. She knows the world's gone to shit, but she hasn't let it stop her from living the best she can. She has a laugh and keeps her group entertained. She might be cruel sometimes, but she isn't the kind of person to let somebody she cares about spiral into sadness, so she tries her best to keep the group occupied. Even if it means walking around naked and taking the group by surprise.

Maria is loyal, and while it can be hard to get her trust and pretty easy to loose it if you do something she doesn't like, having her on your side is the best way to have things.

Bio: Maria was born into a really harsh vault, it didn't help that her father was abusive and her mother had died shortly after birth. She wasn't treated well, as the vault valued males and obedient women, Maria wasn't either of those and was a free spirit and a trouble maker. How she hadn't gotten thrown out of the vault was a mystery.

Maria met Aria and her younger sister when she was seventeen, Aria was also seventeen and her younger sister Ruby had been fifteen. Shortly after meeting these two she met an older man named Vernon who breed dogs in the vaults. The dogs acted as guard dogs or helped the few scavengers the vault had. Most of the time the runts that often came in the litters of pups got killed, but Vernon gave Maria one. A male pup who was half coyote.

    She affectionately named him Tota.

Vernon also encouraged Maria to leave the vault, and after talking to Ruby and Aria they did leave, Maria was eighteen by this point and had trained Tota to be the best damn companion he could be. The night they left was the night she finally snapped at her father, stopping the abuse permanently by slicing his throat open with a butterfly knife. She hadn't meant to, but she doesn't regret it.

Looks: Maria has fairly tanned skin, golden almond eyes and a good body figure. She has sand colored hair that comes down to just above the middle of her back. She stands are around 6 foot (only just) and has toned arms and legs from parkour. She has muscles but they aren't really all that noticeable unless you feel them, then you can't help but notice them. She has quite a few scars on her arms and back as well as along her legs and other such places, some from her times with her father, some where Tota had accidentally bit her while she was training him and others where she had fell or messed up whilst parkouring.

Most of the scars are faded though, and hardly noticeable and they didn't take away from her looks.

Wears: Maria often wears short denim shorts and a (used to be white) tanned tank top along with her favourite boots, when it's older though she wears partially ripped jeans and a long sleeved loose shirt, finishing off that look with a leather jacket. No matter what the weather is, she always has leather arm straps that go from her wrist up to her shoulders, she also wore these on her legs from the ankle up to the knee, the rest of her group had this as well and it was an easy way to stop the mutants from getting a good bite on their arms or legs.

She sometimes has her hair up in a ponytail, most of the time she doesn't bother.

    Other:
She carries around two butterfly knives that she's really skilled with.

    Brilliant at parkour.

Has a pet dog/coyote named Tota who has been trained to react when mutants are too close and is Maria's closets friend.

Tends to fake emotions to fool people and often has sex with other survivors to relieve the tension killing mutants can't.

There were many things Maria hated about the surface, having to keep one eye open while she slept was one of them, then there was always keeping a look out for Mutants, that was another. She could go on, but we would be here all day, luckily there were things she loved about the surface as well. The main one being, she was free. Free to do as she pleased without a director staring down her back.

It was one of the few moderate months so while it was warm Maria didn't feel like she was dying, she had just come back from scavenging with Tota, the dog was currently sat down next to her drinking water from a bowl. They had gotten some good supplies but they were both tired, thank god Ruby was making dinner soon. Her little group consisted of her, her dog Tota, her friend Aria, Aria's younger sister Ruby and finally Marco. Aria was basically their leader, she made most of the decisions and was the most calm. Maria didn't have a problem with that, Aria was an exception to most of her rules. Aria could tell her what to do and give her nicknames, anybody else who tried would get a knife through the throat. Then again, Aria was her best friend.

As if having known Maria was thinking about her, Aria walked into the room, dressed in her usual outift with her auburn hair pulled back in a ponytail. She was wearing a black hoodie that had had the sleeves ripped off along with a pair of baggy grey trousers and some worn down trainers. Like Maria, she too had leather wraps on her arms and legs. "Hey, Mari, there have been some Mutants spotted nearby, not anything too crazy but it is a pack of dogs and you know how much of a pain they can be if they smell you. Ruby's worried about them and I don't want to ask Marco to come help me deal with them when his arm is still aching."

Maria sighed. "It's fine. I'll meet you outside, just let me get my bag." Aria nodded and left the room to wait outside the building they had taken over and now called home. A few minutes later Maria joined her now with a small backpack. Aria began walking, but soon enough they were walking along roof tops and jumping across small gaps in order to get to the place where the Mutants had been spotted.

Henri was clambering over a rocky area a good distance outside of town. She was swearing to herself and gritting her teeth. Her right leg was wrapped tightly in a blood soaked bandana. She'd been bit by of the dogs yesterday, but had managed to kill it and another dog that had strayed from the pack with a rock and knife. She was now searching for shelter for the night.

Henri also needed to get away. She been hanging with one of the larger gangs in town, but had gotten antsy and was leaving. She knew she needed to get a good distance away before she could break. The gang hadn't considered a valued member really she was just there to help 'release tension', but she had stolen some food they'd scavenged and more importantly she'd stolen some of their home-made alcohol. It was made from fermented potatoes so sort of like vodka, but not quite. Before taking off she grabbed a few mason jars. The stuff was good for cleaning wounds and drinking so it was very useful.

Henri glanced behind her hoping the other dogs hadn't picked up on her scent and checking for anyone following her. She tumbled down a small rocky slope and jumping to feet limped off towards the north.

No real plans had been made. They never were with Henri she just sort of wandered around until she found somewhere to stay for a while. She wasn't organized enough to plan anything out really except her escapes, but still her future plans were non-exsistent. She felt the mason jars bouncing in her bag. She wrapped them in a few clothes and jer jacket so they didn't break.

"You can have some tonight, Henrietta. You'll have to break it out to clean up your leg anyway." she reasoned with herself. Taking a chug from her jug at her hip she glanced back again. No one was following yet. Henri wasn't sure if it was the hadn't noticed she was gone yet or they didn't care she was gone and just hadn't noticed the alcohol was gone yet. Either way she picked her pace up a bit using her old gangs lack of observation or care as an opportunity to put more distance between her and them.

Maria and Aria continued to travel via rooftops, eventually stopping when a pack came into view. The Mutants Dogs were one of the less deadly, but they were still a pain in the ass. They had a mostly canine shape, although they were always thin and walked on four legs, their 'paws' more of a sharp claw that they used to dig and slash. They were covered in weird fungi looking plants and large spots and growths, especially on their face. They were blind and relied mostly on sound and smell, but they could be tricked easily. Not the smartest, and their hearing wasn't nearly as good as it had been a few years ago, they were still mutating and the fungi was starting to growing and block their ears.

Maria frowned and gave a small sigh upon seeing them, they seemed too focused on eating whatever animal or human they had caught so it was unlikely they would see them. There were four dogs, one of them being larger and slightly fatter than the other three, must be the 'alpha' of their pack. Maria and Aria shared a look before backing away from the edge of the building. "We take out the larger one first, I have my bow on me so I can take them down from here, keep a look out for any other dogs." Maria nodded in response and walked over to the edge of the building looking around as Aria pulled out her bows and some make shift arrows, she began shooting at the dogs, managing to hit them all in the head and kill them instantly.

Maria continued to look around, they were closer towards the edge of what was left of this city. Her golden eyes narrowed and she sighed before running a hand through her hair.

Henri glanced back at the town. She thought she heard a commotion, instead of stopping to try and figure out what it was she picked up her pace as best as possible. Her leg hurt more, she probably should've cleaned it better last night. It was sore and burned slightly hopefully it wasn't infected. The dogs had a lot of bacteria in their mouths from the fungi so their bites grew nasty pretty quickly, but she had cleaned it out.

While not mountainy where they were right now the land was quite hilly. She glanced around as she headed up a hill. It was already later in the evening she should be looking for shelter, but wanted to get further from the town. Henri was tired. Maybe she should stop for the night. She started to wander towards the tree line area. It would be easier to find somewhere hidden there.

After walking for a good distance Henri paused and squinted at the hills. It looked like a vault entrance, but it was open. Also she didn't know any shelters were up here. Henri moved closer and hid behind some rocks. She watched the entrance suspiciously seeing if it was only open because someone was being released, but no one was coming.

Henri started to sneak forward. Open shelters were extremely rare, they could be dangerous because gangs took them over or more often then not they were totally raided and taken over by animals. However being exhausted Henri was willing to take the chance and recon the vault out. Darkness was coming and out in the open was not where you wanted to be when the night creatures came out.
