Generally, it's what I feel more in the mood for.
The Story Thus Far...
After the fall of Muzan Kibutsuji, the world seemed to fall into a state of relative peace. It seemed the Demon Slayer Corps was well on its way to exterminating all Demon life. At least, that’s what they believed. In truth, Kibutsuji was not the only one of his kind. Demons had spread out across the world. Different cultures had different names for them, but they were demons all the same.
Now, the world has begun to shift. Mankind continues to wrestle various issues, it's environmental and geopolitical state in constant flux. With the downfall of Muzan Kibutsuji, the legacy of the demons fell into obscurity. What myths did remain twisted the truths to such a degree that the stories of old seemed to cease to exist. The Demon Slayer Corps all, but disbanded, the pillars are long since gone, breath styles little more than family secrets. Passed on from age to age, from parent to child, the weapons of old that slayed the last of the demons laid within shrines a reminder of constant vigilance and of the past to those who still held true to the honor and beliefs of old.
Even so, humans being a cowardly and superstitious lot fell prey to a new form of evil. A single man, fueled by curiosity and greed after countless fantastical tales of power and immortality, chose to bring rise to a new threat to the world. Leaving behind hallowed halls of honor, shattering solemn oaths, he took what science had written off as beyond the realm of supernatural and revived what should have stayed lost to time: the Blue Spider Lily.
With the resurgence of a long forgotten drug, humanity would find itself at the precipice of an oncoming storm. The richest, most powerful, and even the most unsavory of characters found themselves with unlimited access to a power unlike any seen in recent times. Bootleg versions of the drug began to make their way to the streets, creating malformed, lesser demonic beings, however, painful and temporary the “transformation” seemed to be. Individuals would willingly give up any shred of humanity they may have retained to stand at the top of the food chain, or even just to feel powerful for a brief moment. It also seemed that cutting more common drugs would generate a high unlike any other.
The upper elite would become something like gods, even if only to themselves, and the trash that littered their feet would follow aimlessly for another chance to feel that exhilaration. Corporate takeovers, coups, the fall of governments and empires. All of this would seem just be just around the corner, until it all came to a head during what came to be known as the 10 Day War.
Taking place in 2012, the 10 Day War saw the growing mass of Demonkind attempting to inflict its control over the nations. This solution would present itself threefold: (1) former Demon Slayer heads and there students would enter the fray wherever possible, utilizing amazing swordsmanship skills; (2) many soldiers by what seemed to be merit of Darwinism not only survived but thrived in the CQC hell, developing impressive tactics and weapons selection with the integration of melee weapons; (3) The Demons themselves, many of whom came to fruition by proxy of various gassing attacks which lead to large forces rising throughout the 10 Day War.
While the pitiful demons of the lower level posed little to no threat, the upper echelon of Demonkind saw far more success by remaining in the shadows. Many casualties were sustained on both sides, but the Demons could be replaced, they were expendable. Modern technologies were found to be of limited effect, heavy weapons while at times successful were not always practical and the collateral damage far outweighed the potential for success. While the war was ultimately a loss for the Demons, at least publicly, the need for protection was indisputable. This led to the creation of the Humankind Preservation Alliance (HPA).
The HPA would see the acknowledgement of the Demon Slayer Corps. Demon Slayers from around the world with their own techniques, breath styles, and skills would be recruited under new leadership. Even so, now a force recognized by multiple government entities, the Demon Slayer Corps would allow for a greater level of freedom. However, the Corps would remain unknown to the general public. As such, comprised of Japan, Russia, China, the United States, and South Korea, the HPA would allow for representatives of each nation to convene with each other and make decisions that would then be communicated to the head of the Corps.
Thus, under the cold light of the moon it becomes the obligation of the Demon Slayer Corps to act in the best interest of Humankind.
New Demon Slayer Corps
As such, the corps has grown to be an international force with various small bases, institutions, and individual masters (former Demon Slayers usually) throughout the world. Masters have trained students, preparing them for wars as they retire from the front lines to help prepare new crops of Slayers for future endeavors. Much of this is done personally by masters on an international scale who prepare children for the Final Selection. Though a brutish tradition, it is a tradition never forgotten, though each culture seems to have its own variation of the test.
Even so, many of the minor branches have been seen as non-measures. The HPA has believed it necessary to create a sole primary base of operations where Demon Slayers considered to be of the highest quality, the best of the varying Final Selections, would gather and work directly under instruction from the new Head.
Base of Operations
Stationed in Japan, the new Demon Slayer Corps has grown immensely with various individuals from all over the world. This base of operations has taken the form of a large estate. Many non combatants reside here taking care of day to day activities, medical duties for the Slayers who come and go, and other mundane tasks throughout the day.
Demons
The legacy left by Muzan Kibutsuji and the Demons of old became little more than legends to the young Demon Slayers. They were forces to be feared and yet so much more. They were power hungry monsters, flesh craving beasts, immensely powerful combatants, and yet, there were those who did not fit the typical notion of a Demon. The primary types of Demons that will likely be seen are as follows:
The One - The man who reignited the nightmare that is Demonkind. Ever elusive and powerful it is unsure what he looks like, where he resides, and how high he has soared in terms of strength. Should he be encountered it is highly recommended that no Demon Slayer attempt to engage him individually. Retreat is the only course of action to ensure survival.
The Demon Moons - Taking on the title of Muzan’s generals of old, these Demons are members of the upper echelon second in class only to The One. Class, weath, and power are expected. They hold immense influence and many are unknown to the public. They seem just like any other human. Some even seem to have begun to develop immunity to the rays of the sun. They may be weakened, but will not die instantly. Demon Slayers should approach with caution, attack in groups if possible.
The Elite - These are certainly not the average demons. Their power pales in comparison to that of the Demon Moons, but they are still a force to be reckoned with.
The Scum - This name was given to low level demons who are not strong enough to even be considered a proper threat to any Demon Slayer. They are little more than cannon fodder, often seen as training for fresh recruits. If unable to even take on Scum by oneself, a Demon Slayer may wish to give up their position and leave the field of combat.
The Fakes - These Demons come to life via the bootlegged formulas of the Blue Spider Lily drug. Though the transformation is temporary, the addiction to the drug is not one that can be overcome. Death is high recommended less the Demon Slayer take responsibility for any life that may be lost due to his or her own weakness.
The Benevolent - While it is true that most hunger for the taste of flesh and human blood, some overcame such carnal urges. Be it love, willpower, or some form of genetic luck, these demons would renounce the need for human flesh. While many boast the same combat effectiveness, many of them come to hate their "brethren". Those who do not choose to try and live normal lives, in search of a cure for Demonhood, will fight of their own violation. In many cases they appear to be quite youthful, though with exceptions.
Some have even taken quite well to simple blood packs to sustain their hunger, but often keep their Demonhood hidden to avoid issues in their personal life. These groups of demons are a vast minority and typically not trusted by the public. Still, it is possible that one day these Demons may become powerful allies against Demonkind and The One.
