"The human whose name is written in this note shall die."

A new age of mankind has dawned. The vast majority of the world's worst criminals are dead, all thanks to Light Yagami, also known as Kira. This golden age is seemingly perfect for the ignorant masses. Little do they know of the dark things done to keep their paradise. Little are they aware that their world was forged by the deaths of thousands in one of the greatest mass-murders in all of human history. Yet the human world isn't the only one going through a sudden change. There is also the Shinigami Realm. It is a place of darkness, and more importantly, boredom. The deformed beings that inhabit the realm are known only as Shinigami. They are the gods of death. The Shinigami have found themselves in a state of egregious boredom; no longer does gambling and watching the activities of humans appeal to them. And in mass defiance against the Shinigami King, a vast number of Death Notes have fallen into the human world through a dark portal. These wicked notebooks have the power to kill, only by writing the name of any human inside them. It was this very kind of weapon that Kira had used to forge his perfect world. However, it came with a price.

There were many whom were disgusted with Kira's actions. The death toll for criminals had spiked at an unimaginable rate. The first person to actively defy this murder's will was none other than L, the greatest detective who ever lived. Although he may have died at the hands of the Death Note, L's legacy continues to live on. Humanity remains unaware that L ever died. Instead, the detective's memory lives on in his pupil Near. For a time after Kira's death, almost everyone had assumed that the killings would finally end and the world could go back to normal.

They were wrong.

In order to ease their boredom, the Shinigami had ensured that their Death Notes were found by only the most "interesting" of humans. What could happen when these individuals find the most destructive weapon ever created? What will they do to their fellow human beings? Shall the reign of Kira start anew, or will the world be plunged in a different kind of domination? The choice is yours. But it must be said that your agenda will not go unnoticed. Those with an equal commitment to justice are fully dedicated to stopping the murders caused by the Death Note, even if they are not aware of the methods employed. Two years have passed since Kira's death, and two years have gone for those notes to be found. Humanity must define the nature of justice again as a war of intellect rages in the background.

This entire story revolves around the conflict between the note-users and those dedicated to stopping them. Players can choose to be a Death Note user, a detective, or a civilian. The setting is in 2015, so everything is placed within modern times. This RP is based off of the anime, not the manga. There can be story references between the two due to their similarities, but nothing extreme. In order to protect your own life, it is your task to outwit your opponents and defeat them through intellect.

Opinion towards the murder of criminals:
1. No god-modding, bullying out-of-character, "Mary-Sue" characters, or spam.
2. OP (me) always has the final say in rejecting applications or pointing out rule-breaking.
3. No playing as official characters from the Death Note anime or Manga. Originals only.
4. Characters can die. This is self-explanatory. Don't expect Deus-Ex-Machina to save you when the other characters figure out your name, but I'll still ensure no god-modding on their part.
5. Romance is permitted, though smut must be kept in spoilers or private messages.
6. All Death Note-users must have a Shinigami to accompany them.
7. Shinigami cannot reveal the names of other characters.
8. Investigators are not fully aware of the Death Note's existence initially.
9. If you cannot continue playing due to boredom or other issues, please kill off your characters or end their story.
10. Please be aware of all the official rules of the Death Note itself.
11. No Shinigami Eyes. This is to prevent unfair RP'ing and god-modding.

C.S. for Investigator-
Real name: Sachio Imaizumi
Alias (required): Oversight (O)
Age: 24
Gender: Male
Personality: Quiet and usually antisocial, though sympathetic towards the innocent and people who have earned his trust. Sachio works tirelessly to complete any case he's been assigned to. He tries to reach out to others when he feels as though something is too difficult for him. Taking after his father, Sachio tends to be honest with other detectives and police officers, but he is willing to resort to deceit when someone shady comes through. It is not uncommon to see Sachio meditate during long hours of boredom or inactivity. Being a near-perfectionist, he is also prone to short bouts of depression.
Appearance:
a48804b657fa12c1b4319912f5103517.jpg

History:
Sachio Imaizumi was born in Osaka in the year 1991. Upon entering the world, Sachio's parents were quick to learn that their child was destined to do great things. His childhood was affected heavily by Kira's reign of terror that lasted over seven years. As tempting as it was to join the legions of people in their violent support for Kira, Sachio's father was strict in raising him. His family enforced a strong dedication to the legal system and justice altogether. After years of discipline and appreciation for the law, Sachio was quick to throw himself into the nearest detective agency in Japan upon graduation in 2009. Much to the surprise of his family, the boy was accepted into an investigation school in Tokyo once the discovery was made that Sachio was a genius far ahead of even expert detectives. During this time, police forces globally were thrown into a state of panic, with almost everyone having the full knowledge that they could collapse dead at any moment. Sachio became inspired by rumors of the world's three greatest detectives; Eraldo Coil, Deneuve, and L and their grand pursuits. Through intensive study and patience, Sachio graduated college in only two years with a PHD in criminal law. With such a high reputation, it was only a matter of time until Sachio was requested a job as a detective by the Japanese National Police Agency. Now he wishes to prove himself worthy of the title he's been given, and wishes to carry out justice in the only way he knows how.
Law enforcement organization (ex.-CIA/FBI):
Japanese National Police Agency

Name:
Hisako Matsuo
Alias (optional):
Daru
Inspired by her favorite childhood game, Daruma-san, in which one child stands facing a wall and chants, "Daruma-san ga koronda," then turns around to find that the others have moved closer, and must weed out those which they saw moving, sending them back to the starting line. The first child to touch the wall wins. Hisako was very good at this game.
Age:
24
Gender:
Female
Personality:
Outwardly, Hisako doesn't seem like the kind of person who would be interested in committing mass murder. She's far, far too busy working her way up the corporate ladder. She's ascending fast, too - efficient, objective, unemotional, and incredibly intelligent, earning her the workplace nickname of Kowai - or "scary". But behind closed doors, Hisako is truly a scary person. She does believe in purity, in weeding out those unfit to live on earth, but her agenda is rather different from that of the infamous Kira. Though she is all for eliminating criminals, her primary targets are the stupid, the useless, and even the disabled. It's something of a eugenics experiment to her - will weeding out those without motivation or intellect create a smarter society, one which will save the world from the mess which its dim-witted predecessors created? Only time will tell, but her calculations say yes.
Appearance:
9qWuard.png
History:
Hisako was born into poverty. Not because of politics, or a natural disaster, or dumb luck - her father was simply stupid, and therefore awful at managing money. Hisako never met her mother, but she believes she must have been a very smart woman to have overcome these terrible intellect genes in her mate. But she did very well in school, and through a series of scholarships and meticulously planned robberies for which she was never convicted or even suspected of, she was able to afford private schooling. After she went off to boarding school, she never spoke to her father again, and will not speak his name. He will be her first target. During Kira's reign of terror, she found herself oddly impressed with his tact and skill, even fascinated, but she felt strongly that he was using his power incorrectly. It was thusly that she decided how she might use this strange power if it ever fell under her control, though it was only speculation at the time. After graduation, she quickly gained a position in the Seiko company, and at this point in time she is the assistant executive director in training, for she is still considered too young to take up the important position. But she will take the position soon, you can count on that. She'll even find time to work on her special project in her unassuming little leather notebook. Who knows? Perhaps some good will be yielded of it.
Shinigami who will accompany you:
He goes by "Yuu."

Occupation (ex.-job):
Assistant executive director in training of the Seiko company.

Alright, IC thread is up now! Have fun!

Should be in the original post, but if not, then I'll fix that.

Hmmm...Would you look at that....This still open? Love myself some Death Note.

Say, Legens, I had an idea for a character who might make a nice right-hand-man for Sachio - his Watson, if you will. May I?

why did you write so much snowday?

and also, snowday can you type specific time of actions that occur like i did. This is a game of intellect so its sort of a must unless you plan to die in your second post.

a. I like to write and got carried away. Plus, considering this is the first time Hisako uses the Death Note, this first post naturally had to be exposition-length.

b. Considering Zero currently has no idea who Hisako/Daru is or what she'd doing, it's inconsequential. Also, you have to remember that you and I aren't playing against each other. If you need to know something about time frame, ask me. If its important/meticulous enough that you need the time, you should probably consult me first anyway, as I imagine it would involve some sort of move against Daru. Also, you are currently the only one using time intervals.

Dang it. I already wrote in one in my latest post. May you tell me your idea for Sachio's right-hand-man? I can make changes if necessary.

Also, Death Note-users are inherently supposed to be in rivalry with the detectives. Users can compete, but the story hasn't gone on long enough for users to act against each other with intention to kill.

So, the good news is that users are supposed to either work together or act in "friendly" competition. The bad news is that now I'm screwed as the only detective at the moment.

Ah, that's quite all right. I'll probably make a member of the police force anyway, for the sake of having someone who isn't a goddamned supergenius in this RP. Padilla would probably fit better, anyway, but at least now we'll have a decent number of non-NPC JNPA characters. This guy could help us start up the task force, I think.

No i wasn't talking about time frame in RL, i was talking about the time within the RP. For example, I said at 3:40pm that the guy whom i wrote inside the book died at that time and i wrote it at 3:30pm. The time within the RP is important for a good intellect game RP such as DEATH NOTE.

I assume that your going for the L theme character so being the only detective shoudn't matter to you seeing how if your smart enough you can at least get a firm just thought on who it is that is killing. NPC's can be other detectives as well, NPC's can help you along the way and this will help if you still feel lonely.

I'm well aware of what you meant, Ramen, and that was what I was referring to. Until Zero knows who Daru is, it won't be necessary.

yea it is necessary because if you want to kill someone than its needed, because ''you don't know zero'' doesn't mean anything i didn't know you when i referred to the time and it doesn't matter if you know someone or not. The time in DEATH NOTE was a major role in the back and fourth intellectual battle that L and Light had, so to just write ''type name here'' subjects than i won't understand your actions. It would've been better if you wrote

''When Hisako went to work that morning at 5:20am,

''Halfway back to her apartment, Hisako had to stop. It was about 2:00pm and She was terribly nauseous,'' (or insert name)

and especially, ''At 3:59pm she wrote the name ''Kenji Matsuo'' into the strange black note book''
(since you stated that she reviewed the book more than once it is relevant that she had to have read the rule of the time system within the book)

This will help and give the detectives more of a ''detective'' feel when they decide to investigate. This will also help the Death note users to avoid or get more intellectual about there deaths in a specific order.

Since @Legens Legentis is the essentially GM than i will let him decide whether or not he wants us to apply the time system to the RP, however i do think it is a good idea seeing how it was applied to the anime and how it will give us more options and character movement. But not forgetting that it will actually make this into a intellect game which DEATH NOTE essentially is.

The point of the OOC thread is that we can deliberate without spamming the IC thread, so if a time I did not mention is absolutely necessary, we can determine it here. I'll begin taking note of when names are written in the Death Note, but otherwise, I'm waiting until we reach the point in the RP where it will be important to time her entire day - at the present time, the detectives also have no way of knowing what time she reached work or home or did anything else, so it's pointless for now.
